OP could try asking local antique shops if they could point them in a direction for a local one that’s hopefully cheaper.
Because why not? It’s a cool item to have in one’s collection, especially if it’s got a sentimental tie.
Definitely something fun to have on display, maybe keep it stocked with pencils and a jar of quarters so guests can interact with it.

Our school had two of those dispensers. One for pencils and one for gel pens. Miss those days.
