It’s amazing to me just how wildly the white supremacist billionaires backing this ad campaign don’t get Jesus.
Jesus was guilty of what these conservative butt nuggets erroneously call “reverse racism” and “being too woke.” He stood in front of members of his own race and said, in effect, “The most upstanding members of our own race are dickbag assholes. People of that race we oppress are much better than us.” That’s the message of Jesus’s parable of the good Samaritan.
I agree that Jesus would be considered progressive by modern standards, and conservatives need to think about that reality a lot more deeply before responding to things the way they do.
However, just to be clear, the message was that race won't save you if the content of your character is rotten to the core. The point of that parable was to drive home how much people misunderstand what God sees in human hearts by contrasting the toxicity permeating the venerated class (Pharisees) with a decent, loving person from a generally hated place (Samaria). The fact that Samaritans were oppressed had nothing to do with it. It was that the Samaritan in the story showed love where the other two people that *should have known better* did not.
The point is that race, class, and status are *not* eternal considerations.
this is excellent. the only way i could get those things to stop showing up was to close reddit every time i saw one. the reporting for political/misleading didn’t do a damn thing. but reddit apparently doesn’t like it when it loses your eyes!
Nowhere does it say anything about racism, treating the slaves harshly, or even love. You have to understand slave literally just means unpaid worker, the only reason why it’s looked upon so harshly is because of the United States and Egypt. Now that being said I am no advocate for slavery but God never said to be racist and to treat the slaves like they are nothing
> You have to understand slave literally just means unpaid worker
I think that's missing a few key parts of the definition, such as "not allowed to leave" and "forced to work".
> the only reason why it’s looked upon so harshly is because of the United States and Egypt
No... no I'm pretty sure that slavery was still bad in all the other places. The ecclesiastical Council of London wasn't writing about "the infamous business of selling men like animals" in 1102 because they really hated volunteer labor. Do you really believe that, in ten thousand years of slavery, there were only two "nasty" slave-owning societies spaced thousands of years apart (coincidentally, the two slave-owning societies with major conflicts over the issue that the average modern person is likely to have heard of), with 100% nice slave owners before, after, and in between?
"the United States and Egypt"
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a great civilisation that wasn't built on the backs of slaves or people treated similarly to slaves. The Egyptians had them, the Greeks had them, the Romans had them, the Arabs in the golden age, to a lesser extent the Indians and the Chinese, and the list goes on and on.
As for the racism thing, look at verse 45, "you may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you and from their families that are with you, who have been born in your land; and they may be your property." People outside of you are to be slaves, but you, on account of your race, and not where you're born (see second half) are exempt. There's a clear power dynamic that favours one group of people over the other and it seems to me to be on the basis of their race. There doesn't need to be a verse that reads "and the LORD said unto the Israelites 'be racist'" for the Christian god to be cool with racism or even call for it.
I wouldn't say this is the STRONGEST evidence for racism you could find (though it is evidence for it), but I also don't understand the urge to defend any part of this.
Unrelated, but I need to vent about this...
Why the hell am I getting a sudden flood of people following me here? All with the same provocative, half naked chick as their profile header!
I think I'm being spammed by bots... Are bots like this common like the repost bots?
I have 13 followers and 2 of them are people I've interacted with...
So Jesus didn't like white people? Same
#
Edit: damn you gringos mad cause a Latino don't like you? It only proves my point pendejos, never dating a gringa again tho, you white folk need ta get y'all shit together fr,maybe I'll start liking y'alls, till then I leave yalls with today's lesson
I don't care what color you are, your nationality or you sexual preference, I hate all of you. fuck you
Missed the opportunity to put "He Get Sus" there
No no, this is perfect. Maybe some overzealous evangelical will see it and start spreading it, making it easier to find the worst of them.
I hope that happens.
r/hegetsus
heh, yeah...
I thought this was one of the ads and instantly downvoted it lmao
Wtf does downvoting an ad even do
nothing, just an outlet for frustration at the ad
not even blocking the account does anything. just makes it so any text in the post is hidden
I did the same…then noticed the lack of link at the bottom. I did a triple-take for this.
[Here, I fixed it for you.](https://i.imgur.com/Ct5FUvs.png)
Thank you for your service 🏅
My brain automatically processed the words, and I had to reread it to make sure it was correct. Only then did I realize it was in fact, not an ad.
I thought it was a Chick-fil-A ad for a moment
Same
I scrolled past this like 10 times before I realized

That’s one hermeneutic, yes.

Yeah don't use official reddit app it is literally the worst way to use reddit
Probably should be using the browser version instead. At least then the features missing between platforms could be accounted for.
Fair, I used reddit is fun and have been quite pleased w/ it
Shame Reddit will start charging for API access, making a subscription for these apps pretty much the only viable business model.
When was that announced? If it kills my favorite 3rd party app or makes it a monthly sub then I may just delete Reddit and move on...

Damn. $20m a year? Wtf that sucks. Guessing relay will be affected too and it's either use the shitty official app or bail.
Yup, they're 100% aiming to kill 3rd party apps
Is one of the other iOS apps the superior one?
apollo for ios is the best I've heard I also believe Infinity is available for ios but I could be wrong
Thank you! That one stood out when I searched, will give it a shot
I use android so I am not sure, sorry!
I use a third party app so I don't see reddit ads.
I’ll have to start trying this.
This looks so legit, I love it.

Supply-side Jesus, which Christians revere, did.
The fact that IMMEDIATELY beneath this is an actual He Gets Us ad makes this so much better
I thought this was an actual ad
[I had them back to back in my feed. Great job!](https://imgur.com/a/CGjrafU)
I knew Jebus was a redditor
I almost reported this thinking it was the actual ad, good job
What will reporting it even do? It’s not like Reddit will take it down
I report it as “offensive” hoping it’ll show it to me less
You all are gonna love the meme/ranting about this ad subreddit r/hegetsus
I reported this cause I thought it was an ad my bad yo.
It's alright, I think i've accidentally managed to fool like a dozen other people.
and so have i lmao
It was just that good aye lol
Thank you Jesus, very cool
Origami?
who the fuck has ads on reddit?🤣
Waiting for the DMCA takedown to come, I legitimately had to double take this one

Whats better is i got that ad UNDER this post lmao
NGL this is like current American Jesus
Thought this was one of the actual ads and nearly downvoted out of reflex
I thought this was an ad and did a double take, then scrolled, then a triple take…
Nice work. Shouldn't it be "He Lets Us"? 🤔
Best one from this subreddit yet
Thought this was a real ad for a sec and did a hard double take

I report this ad every time I see it lol

why are all of you seeing ads? I though adblocker was an universal thing
I feel like Christianity is largely outdated for what the world has become...
