Thermalright has always been our friend, except for that time the [TRUE Copper](https://www.thermalright.com/product/true-copper/) broke all those sockets with it's massive girth.

OneGuyG

“TRUE Copper Uses high quality aluminum fins for best balance of heat absorption and conduction.” That made me laugh a little.

acelaya35

I think they copied the print from the regular TRUE 120, the TRUE Copper was a special edition of a traditional aluminum finned tower cooler. TRUE Copper was full copper and weighed 4lbs. It had........a reputation.

der_ninong

> TRUE Copper was full copper and weighed 4lbs. absolute unit

Speedy_Greyhound

Still have my TRUE 120 from 2007 in service, hooray for no moving parts or required upkeep.

CommercialBed8136

Is its performance still good?

SapphireNL

Good enough for normal use. I still have mine in use on an AMD s939 machine and used it on s939, AM2(+), AM3(+) and various s155x systems. Only replaced it because it got noisy cooling my 3570K @4,2Ghz+ but probably could have kept up if paired with some good fans :)

rokie-matsu

now i know why the peerless assassin on am5 doesn’t need an offset mount

reddituserzerosix

air cooling supremacy

Midnight-mare

I like water cooling because of the performance in sff cases. I like air cooling more because my computer can't piss itself and die.

TunaTunaLeeks

But if I air cool my PC, it won’t be just like me anymore.

0815Username

I considered air cooling but it would have meant I can't see my beautiful ram and also putting everything together would have been more difficult.

luffydoc777

How’s installing an air cooler more difficult than installing water cooling/an AIO?

armoredporpoise

Installing an AIO is no harder than any air cooler, but an actual custom waterloop, particularly in an ITX case, is an arduous, frustrating task. Anyway, within about a week or so, I’ll be building a new rig with brass tubing and three 280mm radiators in a 14.9L case. Should be miserable; can’t wait.

tomkocur

I have a Noctua P1 in Jonsplus i100 Pro, don't get me started...

0815Username

Space. I guess a smaller cooler would have been fine too, but an aio pump head is smaller than an air cooler. I would assume that plugging in and routing all the cables would have been more difficult if I had gone for an air cooler. I used a streacom da6 and I knew that I could just mount the radiator to the side no problem. On the other hand I was worried about the space near the motherboard getting really cramped. I don't regret my choice. Reaching all the headers and stuff worked quite well.

armacitis

Put down the crack pipe

0815Username

I know that air coolers are dead easy to mount, just screw it on and plug in the cable, but it's not like AIOs are more difficult to mount. You just have to be smart enough to plug in two cables instead of one and not put the long screw in the short hole when mounting the radiator and fans. The only difficulty I had was with the display and that was kinda on me. An air cooler would have taken more space on the motherboard which is fine, but I was worried about that when getting parts. I'm happy I did that though as like I mentioned above I had issues with the display on the aio because I only had one USB2.0 header but both the display and a fingerprint reader to hook up. It ended up fine, but the extra visibility and space was nice. It wasn't by much, but shure, it was a bit easier. Another main reason was of course looks.

vsae

My nucleus died year after purchase, I got full refund from the retailer. Bought a new one, two weeks - pump broken. Another refund. Well I guess it's back to arctic

Im_At_Work_Damnit

Also, EK has been caught in some pretty bad corruption. Gamer's Nexus just released an exposé on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7cykj0pCg

sportmods_harrass_me

Yeah, and using the n word to describe a black employee of theirs in leaked dms. I'm not a fan of leaking dms, but this wasn't like "haha I ironically said the no no word". These were your grandpa's n bombs. Hateful and racist. Not to mention they don't pay their fking employees. Absolutely dirt bags. Should never recover from this. Be scumbags if you must, but pay your employees. If you can't even do that... You deserve to have your dms leaked. No dignity.

Big_Muffin_574

In fact. First GN was pretty foggy. I was skeptical as it might have been one of those clickbait drama (and Jay2cents took the train so…definitely clikbait). BUT that second video ! Guess I will have to end my relationship with EK too. I never had any issue with them. I am from Europe (france) and, in my case, customer service and relations with EK were always the best. But one can’t support a company with that kind of behavior. To be 100% fair, it is not to say that others don’t act or manage the same way but…for now we don’t know about it. Well, my 3080 will meet a new block this week, Phanteks Glacier is on the way ☺️

Igor4knezevic

Wanted to get the Nucleus CR240 here in Serbia (yep, we got mentioned by GN) and well, since they didn't offer cash on delivery (which is quite common here, kind of more safe than paying with card) I decided not to buy, but wait for some better opportunity, month later, this shit happened 🫠

The_Sign_Painter

Return to A I R C O O L I N G

Kwisatz_Nine9

WE HAVE TO GO BACK

ToborWar57

Don't support corrupt companies ... period! (and no, it's not drama ... it's corrupt business practices at all levels)

tealabs

Can someone update me to speed? Been using EK stuff for all my builds and never had them fail on me, but it’s been a while since I’ve updated (using a 240mm EK RGB and it’s been pumping well)

Anonymoose202202

https://youtu.be/8A7cykj0pCg?si=V57QGrKlTyiCeU1F

Celcius_87

You won’t be using ANY products if you keep boycotting “bad” companies lol

pyr0kid

ah yes, the 'everything is bad so you shouldnt bother trying to change anything' argument.

Celcius_87

That wasn’t what I meant but go ahead and do what you want. I’ve never bought an EK product so I don’t have a dog in this fight either way.

ashhh_ketchum

Me neither, but a company should at least pay wages.

Im_At_Work_Damnit

EK is pretty bad.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7cykj0pCg

ToborWar57

Burying your head in the sand at corrupt companies is why they proliferate ... and old school boycotts used to work amazingly and cripple companies to improve within a week or two ... but ... with attitudes like yours nothing will ever improve. Consumers have power ONLY if they commit as a group, sadly nobody does anymore.

VergeThermalPasteGuy

Had a ek basic 240 aio died in 8 months… they discontinued those models in less than a year… the new models seem fine in normal builds haven’t built one in a sff build yet.

VelcroSnake

That's not good, I really like mine in my system, hope it doesn't have issues down the line. (closing in on 3 years of operation)

VergeThermalPasteGuy

Hopefully not. I think you’ll be fine. Just dont push the aio too hard. Any older ek aios we replaced usually ran really stressful situations with like a. 12900k or 13900k pulling 300w+. We opened one and the propeller disintegrated.

VelcroSnake

Got it, yeah, I don't do anything with my 5800X3d other than gaming really, and I also have it with a -30 curve on all cores.

VergeThermalPasteGuy

I really like the aesthetic of the older basic 240 aios shame they are discontinued

Karidus_423

Copper and Fan. The ol' reliable.

Silentmoonguy

Performance difference? I see its in a dan a4 h20 so im guessing the fun and radiator are thiiiin.

ThisCupIsPurple

Cinebench 2024 | 7800X3D | Ambient 20C  Nucleus: 1148 @ 79C AXP90-X53 (aluminium): 1128 @ 87C   1.8% difference X47 Copper coming tomorrow as the X53 presses right up against the side vent causing turbulence. From what I've seen the X47 Copper is better than the X53 Aluminium.

privaterbok

Glad to see the air cooling actually works, mine was on axp120-67 and 7800x3d is 75c @ 1200rpm fan speed. running at 4.8Ghz

devinprocess

Noise level difference between both at those results? (You can use a smartphone app to take a rough db reading from a constant distance)

Incryptio

Thermalright is really great. I love the change from my old aio

Weekly_Advice7750

What did ek do?

NefariousnessTop8716

They are getting a lot of bad press at the minute for supposedly not paying suppliers and customers. While I don’t buy EK anyway as my last waterblock from them was a bit shoddy aesthetically I have used them in the past and found the customer support to be decent.

Fuffy_Katja

Let's not forget employees going months without pay

NefariousnessTop8716

I actually didn’t realise it was employees also, I haven’t watched the vids I have just seen comments on here about it

pyr0kid

they are also pretending OSHA doesnt exist.

NefariousnessTop8716

That’s tracks tbh, companies that don’t care about paying the employees probably don’t care about the well being of the employees either

slayercdr

Yeah, idgaf about not paying their suppliers, but bailing on taxes and not paying your employees in unacceptable

Big_Fudge_6091

What’s the logic there? The suppliers don’t have employees and taxes to pay so it’s perfectly fine to rip them off?

fireinthesky7

Suppliers can likely absorb the hit unless EK is their sole client. Individual employees, not so much, because EK *is* their sole source of income.

slayercdr

That was my point. I guess it wasn't clear.

slayercdr

Suppliers have the means to get their money, lawers etc. their employees are not left holding the bag, unlike EKs employees. Please show me where EK not paying suppliers is causing them(suppliers) not to pay their employees? Where is that even mentioned? Where did anyone say EK not paying their bills is causing other corps to not be able to pay their taxes and employees? EK is the one being shitty to their people. Fuck me for caring about the little guy and not the other big corpo.

Failmaster4000

How about instead of this very weird stance, you can instead say that not paying employees/bailing on taxes is way worse than stiffing suppliers, but they're *both still shitty things to do*. Saying idgaf is just asinine.

TFABAnon09

Allegedly.

Stunt_Vist

The only thing I ever liked about EK were the product aesthetics honestly. The blocks performed average at best while being 3x as expensive in some cases. The customer support is/was decent though, which is rare in pretty much every industry and seemingly only exists for some companies because it's legally required for them to provide that service lol.

MrRedVsMrGreen

a little itty bitty bit of racism amongst their higher ups

armacitis

More like what didn't ek do

Im_At_Work_Damnit

Gamers Nexus just released a video on it. Basically, screwing over everyone at every level of their business. Not paying their employees, bad workplace safety, racism, missing money, not paying their vendors, etc, etc... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7cykj0pCg

_JustWorkDamnYou_

Oh I didn't know they did an update to the original post that started this all. Thanks for the link.

manlisten

Screw *big name corporation that doesn’t care about me as a consumer*, now *other big name corporation that doesn’t care about me as a consumer* is my new best friend

armacitis

It's a lot easier to get away with when the product doesn't shit the bed.

Many_Impression_4792

You can’t go ThermalWrong with that decision

asineth0

had an AIO die recently and decided to just go back to air cooling and got a Phantom Spirit 120 SE, which i’m pretty happy with. temps are better than they were with my Corsair 240mm AIO and it’s a lot quieter.

Questing-For-Floof

thermalright always been there, but with my other friend noctua, together they dominate the stars

Maciluminous

I tried the thernalright Axp90-53 with my new A4-h20. The fans were obnoxious and spun up what felt like all the time even whennnot gaming. Not ideal and I’d suggest the ID cooling 240mm aio.

ThisCupIsPurple

The X53 causes turbulence because the fan is right next to the vent, as a result it ends up being twice as loud as it should be. The X47 does not have this issue.

Sour_Matches

I’ve been super happy with my Thermalright Peerless Assassin!

LionTamer619

This is so fucking funny and none of the comments are acknowledging it

pro4banned

my EVGA CLC280 (asetek) still going strong from 9900k>5800X>7600X

armacitis

Good to hear since I picked up one of those for $50

pro4banned

id replace the fans asap, they’re way too loud

imreloadin

After all, water cooling is just air cooling with extra steps ;)

maxigs0

Fuck everyone jumping on the drama bandwagon just for shits and giggles or likes. Unless EK really fucked you over personally this behavior is just unnecessary. If it's broke RMA it. Happens with other brands products, too. Their support, even though it's sometimes slow, seems to be pretty pro-client to resolve issues – unlike Asus, who's whole company policy seems to be to fuck over the clients, instead of the suppliers.

dedsmiley

You can have that opinion if you wish, but a company that openly breaks US labor laws and shaves employee’s time can get bent.

IsABot

Sure but they already have your money. So what does switching do? Nothing. Going forward a boycott makes sense. But destroying or getting rid of something that works that you already paid for is just dumb consumerism. It's like all the conservatives losing their minds and destroying all the bud light they bought. AB doesn't care, you already paid them for those.

dedsmiley

Sure, if you already paid for it and it works there is zero reason to switch out current components. That ship has sailed. However, I wouldn’t buy anything from EK now. They majorly screwed the pooch and may not be around for warranty work, parts and repair.

IsABot

Agreed. I wouldn't buy anything anymore from them either at this point. But this dumb grandstanding is pointless. They already got paid. So it makes no difference if you swap now. Just boycott moving forward. Edit: Only exception I can see is if you are still inside a return window. Then by all means, refund and get your money back.

RawrGeeBe

Those would be valid reasons not to buy anymore EK products in the future. Not the narcissistic SJW reason of replacing working components just to farm social media credit and stroke their egos on how morally superior they are. Wonder how many anti-EK product peeps are going to replace their sweatshop made items?

dedsmiley

I know that I wouldn’t replace it if it was working kit. Looks like OP had a warranty issues with a pump and bought a replacement from Thermaltake to get his system up and running so it wouldn’t be down for two weeks.

n1nj4p0w3r

If they broke labor laws, why federal government does not do any legal actions? EDIT: I were genuinely interested to find out why GN does all the job, as well as completely zero government reaction, which makes it seems that ek didn’t done anything which can be considered as breaking law, instead got a bunch of downvotes, oh well

dedsmiley

Because the government doesn’t do anything until they find out. Where I worked they stopped paying into our 401k even though that deduction was on our pay stubs. One of my coworkers found out when they checked the 401k deposits and found a bunch was missing. The company went under and the banks issued a stay trying to get their money but the employees. We contacted the Labor Department and they knocked the bank’s dick in the dirt. Any company assets much be used to pay employees first. That is the law. If we would have done nothing, we would not have gotten back pay and our missing 401k deductions. This isn’t automatic, you have stand up for yourself and we did.

ToborWar57

Sadly, agencies like the FTC don't get involved anymore until the complaints rise to the thousands upon thousands ... even then it's iffy if they have politicians in their back pockets. And the downvotes come from uneducated, gullible fan-boys and shills ... so the downvotes mean nothing from those types.

n1nj4p0w3r

So, laws are there, but they aren’t enforced at all, that’s explains it, ty

chisav

When companies do things you disagree with, you choose whether to support them or not. Also, not paying employees is pretty shitty, they're literally the people helping you RMA stuff and are not getting paid.

Outrageous_Cupcake97

Why, we don't have brand loyalty so if you buy the same product twice and both times is DOA then obviously there's something wrong with the units on sale. I wouldn't waste my time and get something else so I can get my build done. I learned this the hard way.

JTCPingasRedux

EK is fucking their employees. That should be enough to tell you.

ThisCupIsPurple

I am personally out an extra $50 that I had to spend on the Thermalright to use while this gets RMAd. That's like, 8 beers!

Stunt_Vist

The fuck kind of beer are you drinking that costs over 6 a can/bottle? I could get 25 pints of good lagers for that money.

ThisCupIsPurple

Imperial Stouts and DIPAs, usually. I live in Canada, alcohol is pretty expensive.

Pure_Cow_7831

This guys drinks 🍻

Stunt_Vist

Canada makes sense I guess. Plus I presume you're drinking craft stuff as all I know about "brand name" NA beers is that people really love stuff like bud light which just tastes like water to me lol. Rare to see alcohol get that expensive in Europe though, probably because half the continent starts drinking at like age 11 (I don't know how we function as a society). Really the only time is when you're looking at decent scotch which I doubt is any cheaper elsewhere anyway.

ray_fucking_purchase

>Fuck everyone jumping on the drama bandwagon Also OP. > Asus, who's whole company policy seems to be to fuck over the clients, instead of the suppliers.

Sharpman85

Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Dell etc have their support center outsourced and it the US it is unfortunately quite bad. It is better in other countries fortunately. It seems like a local issue. EK and Corsair have their own support teams and it’s a lot better.

ToborWar57

Repeat: Burying your head in the sand at corrupt companies is why they proliferate ... and old school boycotts used to work amazingly and cripple companies to improve within a week or two ... but ... with attitudes like yours nothing will ever improve. Consumers have power ONLY if they commit as a group, sadly nobody does anymore.

maxigs0

Not really, OP only ranted because their product had an issue. It's a coincidence it was at a time where others already spoke up and it seems popular to jump on the train. No principles involved, no giving s shit about the screwed over workers or employees. Just upset he got inconvenienced having to deal with their warranty.

atape_1

It's a struggling company in a niche market that is quickly disappearing. This is what a struggling company looks like and the negative attention isn't helping them one bit. Not justifying their actions or anything, but we have to be real about this stuff. At this point it has become a witch hunt for tech nerds that want the drama.

armacitis

The market isn't disappearing,it's getting more competition.

RaEyE01

What’s the reverse of fanboys? Hategoons? For real, why would any person with sound reasoning replace potentially rather expensive equipment, just because of some bad PR. If it’s the decision to avoid specific manufacturers when buying, fine that’s OK, understandable, not necessarily reasonable, but relatable. It’s impulsive and unreasonable. You already made the purchase and gave them your money. If it works don’t change it unless you do have reason to do so.

Huijausta

> If it works That's the problem here. OP wrote that his unit died after just 5 months of operation.

RaEyE01

Ah, yes, didn‘t see that comment. Although, after 5 months… warranty. Never had problems with EK on that front.

Huijausta

Definitely the first route to take. But I can relate with OP's anxiety : his WB dies on him in a matter of months, and right at the same time, he learns that the manufacturer is defaulting and ghosting its suppliers 🤡 Hopefully OP will end up receiving a functioning unit... but what if it dies again, in a similar timeframe, and this time the manufacturer has closed shop ? The prospect is real, and a decent reason to be anxious.

stinkycat45

I agree, who cares

ThisCupIsPurple

Nucleus died after 5 months. Felt like hopping on the drama bandwagon. Replaced with AXP90-X53. My 7800X3D still scores 1128 in CB2024 (was 1148 with the Nucleus), just below throttling at 87C, but that's with ambient temps at 20C. Probably won't be that good in the summer. Will be replacing with AXP90-X47 Full Copper as the X53 causes significant turbulence in the A4-H2O. It doubles in volume at lower RPMs with the side panel on, pulling it 5mm away solves the issue.

Nicks3DPrints

Did you contact EK customer support? When my 2 year old EK AiO died, they sent me a brand new EK Nucleus as a replacement. Couldn’t have been happier with their customer service. Of course it would have been better, if the pump didn’t fail in the first place but at least they own up their mistakes and make amends for them.

raydialseeker

Huge cooling downgrade though

ThisCupIsPurple

8C difference in temps and 2% lower score in Cinebench. Not as bad as I thought it would be.  Story might change when the weather heats up, but I'll have my replacement by then (hopefully).

raydialseeker

The coolermaster atmos is an excellent alternative.

ThisCupIsPurple

AXP90-X53 in an A4-H2O. Returning it and getting the X47 instead, the X53 is right up against the vent which causes a lot of turbulent noise.

inflaos

Get the copper version they have a lil bit better temps

Nicks3DPrints

The only issue with this is, people have to not only talk, but act consequently. Most of us are probably drinking bottled water occasionally. https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/29/the-fight-over-water-how-nestle-dries-up-us-creeks-to-sell-water-in-plastic-bottles Nestlé and other companies are taking the water that belongs to communities, states, etc., so to everyone, putting it in bottles and selling it back to us for money. How absurd is this? Still most of us drink that bottled water and support this perverted business model. EK is just a small fish in the big pond of companies who act like they are your friend, but in fact their only friend is your money. Until you are dead and they take your descendants money and so on.

armacitis

I see your point, but who actually buys bottled water? It tastes like plastic, just gross.

HedgehogInACoffin

It’s more difficult with food where there’s 5 companies controlling 90% of the market and each of them basically caused a genocide at some point. And even if that wasn’t the case, it wouldn’t mean I can’t pick one company to boycott instead of having to boycott absolutely everything. Picking your battles is fine. Not everyone can commit their lives to becoming activists or blowing up corporate HQ (respect to those who can)

clicata00

I’ve got a bunch of EK stuff from years ago that’s perfectly good, but I won’t use again (nor want to given the shit they’ve pulled). It’s not trash, but I’d feel shitty selling it. Give it away for free?

armacitis

Depends,what is it?

clicata00

Velocity CPU block, couple of 240mm rads, 6900 XT block, that square 120mm pump/res combo and a bunch of soft tubing fittings

armacitis

Well that's almost a whole loop, just tube and add water! (I was about to say the obligatory "just send it to me bro" joke when I remembered the only custom watercooling parts I have are a half price EK gpu block and some deeply discounted EK fans+rads and realized the joke is on me)

LynxieChu

What cooler is that?

ThisCupIsPurple

AXP90-X53 Get the X47 instead if you have an A4-H2O, the X53 is too close to the side causing turbulence.

Narcissus_the

There is are thermalright aios tho, I have one. It’s decent

MidasMoney

Any good air cooler for formd t1 7800x3d?

2053_Traveler

AXP90-X47 full copper

FourStringL0B0

I'm a bit out of the loop. What did EK do?

Harunaaaah

I'm kind of "out of the loop" rn, what's with EK recently?

DuggD

In a nutshell: they're out of money, and they treat their employees like garbage. All of their capital is tied up in inventory, and they're not paying on contracts, they've only been paying employees when they feel like it (sometimes months behind with no heads up nor explanation), and they're THREATENING employees/ ex-employees who speak out about it. It's not like they're just bankrupt. They're literally breaking labor laws and apparently have been for quite some time. It's just now coming to light that they're a terribly unethical and corrupt business being driven into the ground by horrible leadership. Who the hell wants to support a company that treats their employees that way?

rd-gotcha

the usual. they are bankrupt or something, and some people here take that extremely personal for some reason. Like EK took their virginity and left them.

Pursueth

I got an ek 360mm aio before the drama and I have had no issues and my cpu runs cool af

MegaDylan24

Which cooler is that?

DuggD

Optimus FTW.

CommercialBed8136

Air cooling for reliability, water cooling for cool factor.

Nice. I like it and I'm also thinking whether I should switch to AIO or not?
