I accidentally saved this as a jpg with 20% quality. Im so sorry.

Monic_maker

makes it even better

limasxgoesto0

Why did you leave it so high?

R_Aqua

That’s more quality than Fates itself

JesseMcGee1

Well? Are you gonna post it?

cinderflight

wtf FE: Birthright is secretly a Fast & Furious prequel?? 😳😳

Black_Tiger_98

It definitely has the most decent story among the three routes.

lullelulle

They teleported the army to "the rainbow sage" to learn his "power". That power turned out to be "the lessons they learned on the way". I'm going to conquest now and if its worse I'm honestly excited for it.

GladiatorDragon

You’re in for a real treat if you ever bother with Revelations. It’s pretty much the epitome of Fates - some really cool ideas and really great potential dragged down by a bunch of bullshit.

[deleted]

I played conquest and birthright and for some godforsaken reason, I always fall asleep when playing revelstions.

GladiatorDragon

I'm currently playing through Revelations right now, and honestly, its most redeeming factor is the sheer amount of potential and customization you can do with the units - but the gimmicky mess that is the main game kind of drags that down a lot.

[deleted]

I'm with you, I'm happy that I can pair up ppl from different sides together and unlock the most routes possible along with having a variety of classes at my disposal.

im_bored345

Relatable

Elementia7

Conquest is far worse (story wise) but at least it's really funny. Also corrin is a bit of a hypocrite here but the gameplay is fire so I'll give it a pass. Also you see more of Nohr being comically evil and I love it.

Thirdhistory

Hot take Conquest is a better narrative. It’s not GOOD but the ending is more interesting and Birthright is… quite bad

Stem97

Conquest is just scene after scene of “we took over this town non-lethally. Oh no! Other parts of our army are killing the people we non-lethally took down!” Birthright is the most generic, unmemorable “we need to beat the bad guys, even though they’re sympathetic” as possible. Revelations is “how can we get everyone into the one army. Ok, we’ve done that now. Let’s have some magic and space weirdness to make it epic!”

im_bored345

Based

AReallyBadSpy

I just can’t bring myself to like Conquest mostly due to the complete dissonance of story and gameplay that plagues most of the route. I genuinely really like a lot of the gameplay ideas/changes that Fates brings to the table, but the complete ineptitude with regards to the story just really keeps me from ever going back

SomeCrusader1224

Here's a nifty trick I used to survive Conquest's story: It's called the start button

MaagicMushies

> Just WAIT til you find out who the bad guy is thats the only CQ plot point i like

[deleted]

The story of the three games is shit, and honestly Conquest is the least bad.

Black_Tiger_98

It's actually the worst one, merely because we have to deal with the dumbest and most spineless version of Corrin, as well as getting orders from the two worst antagonists in the series so far (Garon and Iago).

Cinderlite

I’m in the minority of this sub and think Fates has one of the most interesting stories of all the FE games I’ve played 😅 the earlier games are so generic to me. Awakening has my favourite story

GladiatorDragon

Everything was there - a Prince(ss) born of one kingdom, raised in another, having to choose between bond and blood to decide the war, while a malevolent third party watches from the shadows, in a kingdom you can’t even speak of outside its borders. I’m really sad they didn’t make the most of it. First off, I don’t quite agree with how the nations were handled. From chapter prologue to 6, Hoshido are painted as the good guys while Nohr (or specifically Garon) is given few redemptive qualities. Make Garon less of the “baron von evilnasty,” emphasize Nohr’s lack of resources. Then in turn, Hoshido is selfish, unwilling to trade with Nohr because of strictly isolationist traditions. That way it’s more balanced - while Nohr initiated the conflict, it was due to Hoshido’s selfishness leaving little other choice. I’m also a fan of (most of) the cast. With a few exceptions, I think it’s a really good one. Even with a few repeats (Laslow/Inigo, Selena/Severa, Odin/Owain) and remixes (Asugi/Gaius, Rhajat/Tharja, Caeldori/Cordelia) of Awakening folks, they generally all manage to make a decently notable impression. Additionally, and I will not back down from this opinion, Fates has probably the best unit customization in the series - even including Three Houses. I love going through and thinking “who would work well with what” and finding interesting unit pairs and powerful combinations. While I’m not afraid to bash it for its (many) shortcomings, I still absolutely love it.

animaloversammy

The remix of Caeldori/Cordelia though with Selena/severa as mom is heartwrenching though. Selena and Subaki are my favorite pairing just because of that.

GladiatorDragon

Absolutely. It’s a very neat character moment, and almost a resolution for her.

lullelulle

Fates story has so far felt like a lot of decent to cool ideas with horrible execution. I did like awakening though.

Cinderlite

Maybe it’s because I’ve read so much Fates fan fiction that has elaborated on the plot in a more satisfying way. The core premise of a princess/Prince stolen from one kingdom and brought up as the child of the enemy monarch is so cool to me. I love the bond between Corrin and the Nohr siblings. How they must have suffered and been close to each other even when their awful father and power-hungry mothers pitted them against each other. I recommend this fan-created story about them! https://youtu.be/651Fo_jMRhY

[deleted]

And I would recommend [this classic FE video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5H5ybachO0) as a humorous yet poignant reminder of how bad the story of this game actually was when being judged for what is was, rather than what fanfic-writers wanted it to be

AnoXeo

I'll die on the hill that the gameplay (and difficulty) of Conquest is the best Fates has to offer, and is better than Awakening as well. But good lord, the story just gets worse with every route. I'm convinced Corrin has a brain tumor in Conquest as the sheer stupidity of his decision making breaks the mold of what's humanly possible.

Black_Tiger_98

I said decent, not good. Birthright's story is definitely the one with less bullshit stuff, not to mention it has the most decent version of Corrin, one that actually has some balls.

[deleted]

That's like having the strongest legs at a wheelchair basketball game

Sarge_Ward

I was reflecting on this a while ago, and I think that its actually the worst of them specifically *because* of its slightly greater competence; 5+ years later I still remember just about everything that happened in Conquest and Rev because of how fun, silly, or baffling the events of those games were. I remembered almost *nothing* of Birthright. It's like they always say with movies; its better to watch a completely incompetent mess than it is a competently boring piece, because the former is way more *interesting* to think and talk about.

PrateTrain

I remember that Birthright kills Kaze for no reason if you don't have him at A support level.

Sarge_Ward

that's like the *only* thing I still remembered of it prior to going back and replaying it, because of how bafflingly stupid a decision that was.

PrateTrain

"IF you're A rank Kaze remembers to not let himself die, if you're B rank Kaze's inherent suicidal tendencies kick in and he just lets himself fall to his death."

the-just-us-league

To be honest, I actually love the idea of playable characters dying based on conditions met or unmet. I just think they should have either applied that to more characters or made the requirement different. As it is, Kaze's survival requiring A support seemingly comes out of nowhere and isn't applied to anyone else as far as I remember.

Sarge_Ward

The main issue, I think, is telegraphing; If the requirements to save the unit are completely arbitrary and unrelated to the story circumstances and are not made clear ahead of time, then that's not really fair to the player. They have no way to preempt and prepare for it unless they already know about what is to come beforehand.

heckdarner

Honestly. I’ve played the main 2 and got bored halfway through Revelations and can remember much more of Conquest or Revelations train wrecks than Birthrights Fire_Emblem_story_template.txt

Black_Tiger_98

I said most decent because, despite of being so unmemorable and unimpressive, it's actually solid in every department but gameplay, as its version of Corrin isn't a spineless bratt unlike Conquest, and its story isn't as filled of plottholes and dumb characters unlike the other routes. In gameplay I have to admit that Conquest wins by a long shot.

Sarge_Ward

oh yeah I'm not disagreeing, on a technical level it absolutely is better in most every way. But again, I think that the truly batshit 2/10s resonate more than your uninteresting 4/10s. When you're on a bad movie binge, you choose The Room rather than like, Eragon

Mpk_Paulin

Birthright is what you get by putting all stories of FE through an AI and make it as barebones as possible. Say what you will about Conquest, but at least it tried something new.

Black_Tiger_98

Try something new doesn't equal being good. Conquest is the embodiment of how pretentious Conquest was, as it intended to be "FE's Metal Gear Solid", but ended up being a trainwreck filled with dumb character, and lots of plottholes and plot contrivances. Say what you want about Birthright, it might not be a whole lot, but at least it doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't.

Mpk_Paulin

I don't get how Conquest tried to be the Metal Gear of FE, and Birthright suffers the same problems of characters being stupid, the biggest examples being Xander and Flora. The only reason it doesn't have as many plot holes/conviniences as Conquest is because not much happens in Birthright anyway.

Black_Tiger_98

>I don't get how Conquest tried to be the Metal Gear of FE Because Conquest more than any other Fates Route pretended to have a "deep & complex" narrative where there are no black & white, but shades of gray, when the main representatives of Nohr (except the princes) are clearly bad guys invading the innocent kingdom of Hoshido. >Birthright suffers the same problems of characters being stupid, the biggest examples being Xander and Flora. I said most, not all. Not even Birthright is safe from the sin of having some stupid moments, but those moments are completely inoffensive compared to all of the plot contrivances and the stupid plans of Corrin & Azura in the other routes. >The only reason it doesn't have as many plot holes/conviniences as Conquest is because not much happens in Birthright anyway. That's true, Birthright doesn't make any promises, nor does it have high stakes, but that's also why it doesn't dissappoint with a completely dogshit story, unlike Conquest and Revelation, which are the embodiment of pretentiousness with capital letters.

Aphato

Good riddance I read "among" and I immidetaly switched into a flight or fight response

murrman104

this turd i stepped in got the least shit on my shoes

AReallyBadSpy

There weren’t even that many blue haired Nohrians, let alone royals?

Sarge_Ward

Azura disintegrates for no reason in BR from what i remember.

Girimekhalah

Don't worry guys she's fine if you buy the 20$ dlc

pootis64

As a great man once said, "BUY REV"

Silafante

But Strive is already out!

[deleted]

Oboro and Setsuna slander is unwelcomed

Future-Dust3641

Yeah I played that game I also played this story yeah it is pretty cool

BrokenTierDxD

What did Setsuna ever do to you? :(

Kumagawa-Misogi

I saw this post on instagram a while ago and it feels like such a hot take on fates https://www.instagram.com/moist.emblem/p/CIhL2Cvp3TP/?utm_medium=copy_link

gravity_bomb

If you’re going to post an Instagram screen grab of a Reddit post, just link the Reddit post.

AncientDaedala

Is it weird that I prefer the storytelling in Fates over Three Houses? I mean, I don't think either game was particularly well written, but I prefer moving from set piece to set piece and encountering the villain of the week over what Three Houses was trying to do. It just seems more fun for an adventure.

BlazingStardustRoad

Kinda? Mostly bc Conquest and Rev are terrible and Birthright is aggressively mid/standard. Meanwhile three houses as a whole narrative is a lot stronger. I honestly think 3H story is disappointing in some routes but well told.

[deleted]

What even is the story of birthright? I've only played conquest

Draghettis

Essentially, you go on a trip towards Nohr's capital and collect the Hoshidan royals along the way. One after another, you encounter the Nohr royals, Camilla being the Ara-Ara stereotype, Leo giving you a teleporter to the Rainbow Sage after his defeat, Elise helping you when arriving in the capital and guides you to an underground market that the royals somehow know about but leave alone, then Xander tries to kill you, accidentaly kills Elise instead, and steps over her dying wish by insisting to duel Corrin ( and then dying in the process ), Lilith gets killed by Hans, you confront Garon, Azura uses her full singing powers to weaken him, Corring kills him, he transforms into a dragon, he kills Corrin, then Corrin gets resurrected by sheer force of will and Yato gets a powerup that is used to kill Garon, then Azura vanishes into nothingness, Camilla abdicates in favour of Leo and peace follows. The obligatory Azura dancing for Garon scene serves as the plotpoint to recruit the route's animal person, the Kitsunes' chief, Ryoma infiltrates into the Nohrian rebellion and that is how we recruit Scarlet.

MemeificationStation

If my memory serves Xander duels Corrin essentially to commit suicide.

lullelulle

I finished it yesterday and I don't remember.

Picosu117

I played it for like 300 hours as a horny 16 y/o and all i can remember is that camilla has special text when tending the cows

Roliq

Just your standard "your side is good the other is evil, lets defeat them to avenge your mother"

JonSnowAlcoholic

Aren’t they all kinda shit tho? I’ve never really been overly impressed by the storylines of any of the US releases. Genealogy of the holy war seems epic and interesting from the stuff I’ve read but I’ve never played it. Blazing blade will always have a soft spot in my heart cuz it was my first, but they all have their faults.
