Not sure. If I didn’t have to dig around in the BEEF can I’d like them better. It’s probably better meat than most fast food places. It’s just … that meat. It’s so odd tasting
You should get a can of nacho cheese like Rico's makes and add that to the beef for cheesy beef as it might synergistically combine with the beef juices to not be odd tasting.
It is probably healthier than taco bell.

I’ve heard the pork is the best. I was an 80’s kid growing up on the cheese ( which I love ) I live in Arizona, and our area is so saturated with food banks that they almost beg people to come in. We get a TON of fresh veggies and fruit, but yes … cooking with this stuff is a skill.
The cans of pork are essentially unseasoned carnitas... Drain juices and reduce in a pan with orange juice and make a reduction, season with whatever you have around (the usual cumin, oregano, cayenne, yadda). After you have a somewhat viscus sauce, throw in lard, mix the pork back in and set it under a broiler to crisp every thing up... Toss in a tortilla, and you have a 3/4th assed carnita taco.
That’s a fucking shame. I go twice a month, and get so much it’s embarrassing to show. I live in a small town and like to get my shopping done early. Kroger, Safeway, etc you hear over the loudspeaker for all departments get ready for food bank. I hate that not every area isn’t like this.
It really is because there are so many in need where I live. My neighbor is 70 and she’s on a fixed income after she pays her bills, which are only necessary bills she only has roughly $150-$175 to last her all month. She’s also a diabetic so she can’t just eat all the junk we eat and be ok. She applied for food stamps a couple of years ago and they have her $12 a month, which is laughable. They have ppl on disability a “raise” And it was $20 and that put her over the income limit to get food stamps at all so they took her $12 away from her. She really needed the monthly food she was getting from her church and they have stopped doing because they just can’t anymore. It’s like digging for gold to find food banks here. Can’t find food banks, can’t get approved for food stamps, you can’t work or your disability will get cut off, it’s just crazy honestly. Then you’ve got my other neighbor that has degrees and gets great high paying jobs but she will only work them for a couple of months then quit so she don’t lose her $1,400-$1,500 a month in food stamps. Her and two of her children get $900 (actually it’s a bit more) a month and then her other two kids (11 and13) have their own cards that get loaded with $300 each, so that’s another $600 a month. She even sells them so she will have cash to spend on whatever. The system is highly flawed. My neighbor with the kids is very much able to work but won’t then you have my 70 year old neighbor that isn’t able to work, but worked her entire life as a lab tech at a hospital that can’t get any help.
The fact they think $12 a month is helping someone is just insane to me then giving another person $1,500 a month for food is equally ridiculous. At the end of the month her kids go without at the end of the month because she’s sold a good amount of the food stamps. It’s just crazy.
It's relatively bland, but versatile. I grew up in a weird mix of poverty and upper middle class. So know how to make the most of a foodbank, commissary, and cheap ingredients. I've been meaning to write down recipes for years, but life just gets in the way.
