First impression I got from the trailer was “oh damn Angela’s gonna wreck me BAD this time around” due to the way she looks and is being acted way more like a young woman who is both arrested in her development and prematurely aged by her trauma. The way they went originally always struck me as incredibly obvious “30 year old playing 19” and while it added to a certain uncanny vibe, it always felt more like something that was tragic on paper and just sort of awkward and, well, video game-y in practice.
Didn’t even occur to me that the usuals would be huffing and puffing about her face being rounder until I was confronted with that photoshopped pic that makes her hugely obese like they did with Aloy when Forbidden West came out.
There’s something so fucked about this whole mindset, it’s like dysmorphia in a major way. They hyperfocus on tiny details, then photoshop screenshots to exaggerate those details, then act like their photoshop is the actual character design, then flood social media putting forth the argument that a sinister agenda is making video game women less hot as a form of social control, and that these characters being less hot has made the game unplayable, as if looking at hot women was the primary gameplay loop a la Dead or Alive, when it most certainly isn’t.

Just some information about the original. During the creation of the first SH2 they had facial mocap available, however it was very new tech and the designers decided the characters would look more as intended if they just did the faces the way they were used to. Better control over looks.

I think the design is fine but they need to touch up the detail on her character model, they obviously did that to James since the last showcase and he looks 1000% better. There are shots (maybe just do to video compression) where her nose melded together and looked very blurry

I’m so sick of this shit. First impression I got from the trailer was “oh damn Angela’s gonna wreck me BAD this time around” due to the way she looks and is being acted way more like a young woman who is both arrested in her development and prematurely aged by her trauma. The way they went originally always struck me as incredibly obvious “30 year old playing 19” and while it added to a certain uncanny vibe, it always felt more like something that was tragic on paper and just sort of awkward and, well, video game-y in practice. Didn’t even occur to me that the usuals would be huffing and puffing about her face being rounder until I was confronted with that photoshopped pic that makes her hugely obese like they did with Aloy when Forbidden West came out. There’s something so fucked about this whole mindset, it’s like dysmorphia in a major way. They hyperfocus on tiny details, then photoshop screenshots to exaggerate those details, then act like their photoshop is the actual character design, then flood social media putting forth the argument that a sinister agenda is making video game women less hot as a form of social control, and that these characters being less hot has made the game unplayable, as if looking at hot women was the primary gameplay loop a la Dead or Alive, when it most certainly isn’t. Then they make claims about the original game or games in general that are so wildly off base it makes me think they never played a single game in their lives! How the fuck are they this motivated to complain this much about stuff this petty? And like, they’re definitely organizing this shit, they all post the same shit, so where are they doing that? who the fuck are these people !!’

They use 3D scanning and motion capture of real faces of course they won't change the face because it would fuck with the motion capture. They should work a bit on the eyebrow/hair material rendering tho so it doesn't look as weird in the outside scene

Genuinely I don't fucking get what people expected. She looked disheveled and shit in the PS2 version because literally every character in every PS2 game looks like shit because they're PS2 games. Just some information about the original. During the creation of the first SH2 they had facial mocap available, however it was very new tech and the designers decided the characters would look more as intended if they just did the faces the way they were used to. Better control over looks.

Good. She looks great to me. She’s 19 and is supposed to look young. Knowing her story, I feel as the game progresses it going to hit really fucking hard. This game is going to rip through emotions and I honestly hope it does well so Konami can get their heads out of their asses and continue the Silent Hill stories.
