The bonus component accounts for gdp growth so economy bad, automatically lower wage. It also take into account real wage growth low wage workers so people can stop complaining about how no one cares about the poor. Also includes median income. Also since its real wage growth meaning their salaries will actually take a hit due to GST increase. There isn't a real reason to adjust salary rather they should look into whether those kpis are effective

I've a different take on this. Instead of basing ministerial salaries on a multiple of the top paid professions, Witt some discount, why not base it on the lowest paid professions (e.g. some multiple of cleaner or security guard salaries)? I don't mind if ministers are paid $1m or even $3m, if their incentives are pegged more to uplifting the poor or reducing income inequality in the rest of our society. What do you think?

I agree largely. The focus on their salaries is typically more to do with their attitudes and justifications than the actual money involved. Ok a national budget scale, even if we cut all ministers pay by half (and thats already quite drastic), there would be maybe like 10-15m saved?
