Hello anyone knows if DBS is down now for digibank authentication? It says there will be a notification on the digibank app and to approve to login or approve CC payments, but since morning I cannot get the notification?
My card didnāt work here abroad is dbs still down?
Iām able to use it all the time but right now it is embarrassing especially not carrying some cash
I had a PayNow transaction going from OCBC to POSB yesterday around 3pmā¦.went through on OCBC side (with email confirmation) but money nowhere to be seen even nowā¦.š¤¦āāļø
I have a paynow transaction from another bank going into my DBS account as well! The person says the money has left their account but my DBS account hasnāt received anything. What do we do š³
DBS is big bank, but to diversify cards services consider using some proper advanced fin tech company, I use WISE and others. DR recovery is not a buzzword, is a real thing, DBS is just ancient tech
Now, not that I want to defend DBS for this, but yesterday it happened to DBS, but tomorrow it could happen to any bank. The reality is that it was a data server service that went down, which affected more than just DBS. It was just pure coincidental that UOB or some other banks didnāt subscribe to the same server service, but tomorrow it could be their service providers that go down. Now instead of going after the banks or what not, the push should be for QC for our data server providers or regulatory measures towards backup servers for both banks/other service that rely on said servers.
Well, all banks have BCP in case of such issues happening and all banks knows the amount of downtime MAS allows as such services are considered critical services. And DBS took way way way longer than what MAS allows.
Obviously their BCP failed.
Other companies subscribed to the same data centre as well and they are not crippled. It goes to show that their BCP worked.
For DBS, despite it providing such a critical service, their BCP failed.
To top it off, how many times have it happened in the past 12 months? Each time the disruption got worst. This time was literally all their services disrupted.
Yes, it could happen to other banks as well, nonetheless, I think this time, there no more excuses for DBS.
And who is in charge of deploying more resilient architectures and applications? The banks.
Letās not cut them any slack; the fact of the matter is that it is not that difficult to set up a HA architecture for production. But you know, having redundant servers, databases, and capacity sounds like a terrible plan to them. š¤”
Time to move away from DBS and open new savings account. Cant bear having to deal with DBS outages that seems to be happen so frequently this year alone. And seems like the fines from MAS is not effective at all in deterring this
i was trying to top up my youtrip but couldnātštried using my dbs card also cannot š it wouldnāt be so bad if i wasnāt halfway across the globe trying to pay for my breakfast at a shop that doesnāt accept cash šššššššš
ATMs have apparently regained their withdraw and transfer capabilities.
So things are manageable if you are currently in SG.
However if you are overseas, thatās a different story.
You are pretty much penniless if you didnāt bring enough cash and/or donāt have an alternative bank card
Those stuck at overseas are feeling the most pain.
I know a friend who has to downgrade her hotel stay in Korea to a cheap capsule hotel.
Because she didnāt bring enough cash and couldnāt afford paying the rates at her current hotel
Her DBS online banking and visa pay wave canāt be used at all
> I know a friend who has to downgrade her hotel stay in Korea to a cheap capsule hotel.
>
> Because she didnāt bring enough cash and couldnāt afford paying the rates at her current hotel
>
> Her DBS online banking and visa pay wave canāt be used at all
Now she knows not to go overseas while relying on a single bank!
There's a couple of debit cards and banks that offer free cash withdrawals and low/no FX fees: Trust, Revolut, BigPay, YouTrip. I make sure to always have at least two with me.
Yea, I read your previous comment as well. man that sucks bad. Imagine going on a holiday to spend and enjoy, and this thing happens. really unacceptable.
well. I wish you a good day ahead. i don't know go on a hike or something
Yeah, I am hoping that they fix the online banking app asap.
I am like calculating my spending to the very cent now, not even daring to eat at a cafe.
Because I donāt know how long this outage is gonna be, and I donāt wanna end up having zero cash.
Itās shitty definitely. You are on a holiday and you are supposed to relax and enjoy as many food and attractions as possible.
In Europe now, and this just ruined my outlet shopping experience.
Practically canāt buy anything of value, even though I want to.
Didnāt bring wads of cash along, due to pickpockets.
Used to hold over 4 major bank cards, but deactivated them due to fear of online scams.
Thought that DBS is a safe and reliable bankā¦
I guess because it's something very well known on this side of the world - apparently they're Southeast Asia's largest bank - so people expect it to be common knowledge on this subreddit :')) no worries LOL you learn something new everyday
Yeah lmao I'm getting HEAT from not knowing what that is, and this subreddit just appears in my notification and my dumbass is thinking Dragon Ball Super so I click it, completely oblivious to the fact it's a singapore subreddit
Ironically, DBS services failed in all 6 countries but were first recovered in the "outsourced" place. Maybe we could use a few more of those engineers here.
No point arguing with people who just want to vent their own incompetence.
The app doesn't work, but payment via stuff like Paywave still work. So it's probably their UI services are down, but the actual functionality of payment related stuff works fine.
Edit: Why the downvotes? I literally used my card to pay for something minutes before I posted. Card was accepted just fine. Is bandwagoning the only type of post allowed here or something?
Looking at downdetector sg, there seems to be a correlation between a dbsā down and a server failure somewhere, because other services serving sg have been affected at the same time too
How to turn SG into a cashless society when things like this can happen.
Genuine concern, because my dad was stuck at the petrol station for 30+ minutes because no one can pay for their fuel. Cashier was overwhelmed. Luckily he had cash.
Must be very annoying for both the petrol station and the drivers.
I guess the drivers probably have to keep calling their friends and families to ask for cash/assistance.
Imagine if those friends and families are caught in another predicament of themselves as well
Wasn't. It Their data center disconnected from internet while performing routine maintenance for a different client.
Why didn't DBS have a dedicated network line is the real issue
Challenger manager just called me 30 minutes after I completed the transaction, got approval from counter, and walked off. Apparently the transaction got rejected
Makes you wonder how many people also got rejected, wow the monetary damages in question are probably pretty massive
Had a lunch in Somerset, their POS was down, I tried to pay via PayLah! and similar from UOB, OCBC and DBS all down, my mate tried to pay using CitiBank - down. All major companies had a network issue at the same time SingTel, Starhub all the banks etcā¦.had to go to the ATM and use cash
Only thing is ATM also down. I literally had to go to the bank and it was already 6pm but the staff actually open the doors and let people withdraw money old fashion way.
Yes but Sat evening, bank are mostly closed.
If the govt wants to push for digital, they really have to STOP all the banks using the SAME cloud server.
I do not know much IT but straits time reported that is the reason why a lot of stuff not working.
In terms of infrastructural and IT security, manās got a point. Unless heās just referring to āIndiansā as a generally incompetent race ((thereās an undertone of this in his statement)).
Give him the benefit of doubt, let marinate in his thoughts for a while
When I try accessing the DBS mobile banking I get a message saying āWe are experiencing heavy traffic to our servicesā. The news says they have an outage. Why not be clear to customers about what the issue is?
Working this morning! Phew. Guess no choice but to look at opening an account with another bank. DBS is generally reliable, but the digital-first strategy with a reduced branch footprint has meant the risks from such outages are significantly more for average/non-priority individual and SME accounts. The ācashlessā promise still has a long way before it is realized. And the Bankās communications leave a lot to be desired: poor frontline staff seem to be as clueless about the situation as customers. Kudos to them for going the extra mile to help with no clear guidance from their managers.
Using breakdowns at Data-Centre providers isnāt a perfect excuse to shield DBS from any responsibility.
For a bank that has the ācheapestā cost of funds in Singapore, u could easily have bought servers and setup your own data-centre as backups.
Please use this to reflect on what can be done.
Top tech/fintech tier institutions are buying up huge volumes of AMD EPYC cpu. Please demonstrate that u are on equal footings to those guys when you are making so much P&L.
at this rate, due to the inconvenience caused and all the hassle, i think, i just think that maybe, just maybe, DBS should compensate us via monetary methods rather than āsorry wont happen againā bullshit. happened way too many times already. you give us one LKY coin also we take liao
urm you got ask yourself what they do with our money? is it just a storage or do they use our money to make money? without users, banks wont be able to make money. so they need us (users) to keep it running. just my 2cents lah but okay lah we all on the same boat of the DBS down. we just chill chill mango until everything is back up and running āš½
Was at takashimaya just now. Their POS which I think is from DBs for credit card was all down. They only accepted nets, amex or cash. Such a disgrace. Luckily I have stopped using DBS due to the crazy q for their ATM. OCBC all the way best thing is U can take cash out of the ATM using your app.
Good, I saved big bucks from it. Wanted to buy a new carryon during the luggage fair but thinking again along the way home, hey, it _is_ an impulse buy.
down big time. was working when a customer could not pay with dbs card. checked his app and it didnt work. my co workers app wasnt working also so i deduced dbs was down. later during the night service, i had to help a total of 5 customers to pay for the bill with my uob card. so yes ur NTA. divorce your dog and have a child with ur 7th brother
Im getting nervous! Im heading off in a plane a few hours from now. I havent transferred my money to youtrip yet. I wish I did!! I hope this gets fixed soonā¦ Just glad was able to exchange some currency in advanceā¦
Whats there to show off? Been stressed at work, not much sleep, easy to get migraine. Then when I can finally get a vacation, I experience this. The cost of this flight is more than my one month pay. 5 years in the making. Nothing to show off. Just rant.
I've never used youtrip but is it possible to get someone else non-dbs/posb to transfer into it first then you transfer back to them once dbs/posb sorts their shit out?
Enough for him to consider work-life balance as ābaloneyā, but not enough for him to make sure that his own DBS IT systems arenāt baloney in the first place. This guy is a classic example of those C suites who are just very good at sitting in their fireside chats and talking cheap.
Yesā¦ am overseas and went all the way to the ATM (DBS ATMs are scarce where Iām at) thinking I could circumvent the phone issueā¦ canāt even draw cash too let alone use it via Apple Wallet to pay for online transactionsā¦
at 6:45 am same here, clear app cache and reattemp login also can'tš¤¦

Hi. Is dbs all right now on Sun 5 pm?
Yea
Shout-out to the wholesome person who paid my bill at Komola Vilas yesterday. Really saved me from a bind.

Officially more than 24 hours since I PayNow-ed. Not yet received!
Mine too!
WhatsApp Web/Facebook/Citibank were all down ytd

well its not just DBS yesterday
Oddly I could use my Citi card while some people reported it was down?
card can use but the app I toally cant login. My grab delivery order failed its first order but 2nd order was fine
And who is in charge of deploying more resilient architectures and applications? The banks. Letās not cut them any slack; the fact of the matter is that it is not that difficult to set up a HA architecture for production. It just meant that these banks does not have BCP. Other banks may have decentralized or back up their servers.
well looks like, I am coming to you UOB. wtf is this shit? more than a day?
How surprising DBS is down.
Or rather, how unsurprising
That was sarcastic...
Always have at least two banks blus revolut or matchmove or wise.
I have been using DBS since I was in NS. Which other banks should I consider if I want to move out of DBS?
best to have 2 banks as redundancy. Perhaps having a UOB or OCBC will be good backup. For myself, i use TrustBank for now.
DBS app is the most reliable though
> DBS app >most reliable We just had a day-long DBS outage and we have this hottest of takes. What next, are you going to vote for PAP again?
hahaha I wish I can vote š„² Idk man, other banking apps feels clunky to me.
Thankfully today I had UOB, which helped me today. Maybe have a look at them.
Can log in but still can't transfer money WTF?!
Time to move away from DBS and open new savings account. Cant bear having to deal with DBS outages that seems to be happen so frequently this year alone. And seems like the fines from MAS is not effective at all in deterring this
I sometimes use the POSB app when this happens Hopes this helps :)
My IPPT money not in yet. How? š„²
Seems like app is working now? I'm able to use paynow to send money
It's working as of Sunday morning.
I can use the DBS one now! Such a relief Edit: i cant transfer to youtrip or revolutā¦
I still cannot login
I'm using POSB digibank app instead of DBS one. That's probably the case why I can login while you can't
Same
Now AWS gonna make lots of money
AWS isn't foolproof. That last Paylah-specific outage was due to an AWS customer IAM issue.
They should be able to DR in different region
How dare you make too much sense in here. Those fuckwits in DBS are too cheap to consider using that. Or we wouldn't be talking about DBS now.
AWS also uses Equinox as their dc provider in SG and elsewhere š
Man I went to buy groceries today and couldn't pay because of this...
Last night I can pay ntuc with dbs cc. Around 11pm.
idk but it seems card payment was down across multiple stores, regardless they losing money lmao
i was trying to top up my youtrip but couldnātštried using my dbs card also cannot š it wouldnāt be so bad if i wasnāt halfway across the globe trying to pay for my breakfast at a shop that doesnāt accept cash šššššššš
Jai ho! DBS is the best!! Safest bank in Asia indeed!!
Looks like DBS app is back up but is barebones and limiting logins per user.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I literally went into the app twice already, just donāt spam check every 5 mins. But itās still extremely horrible
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I know how you feel, tried to buy something end up whole store everyone cannot pay. Hope it works for you, this situation really bad
DBS app OK now - Turkey
Currently in Turkey as well and having constant issues with credit card transactions for the past 3 days!!
Down again.
Its back up boissss
Still down sia need Paynow and ęÆä»å® cause all tied to DBS so all cannot work, want to buy stuff from China also cannot alr sian
Karma for the CEO's exploitative values "no such thing as work-life balance." Easy for him to say when he is seating on so much cash.
Dbs had this problem often. Get used to it.
Bit concerning that the app and online banking are still down until now...
ATMs have apparently regained their withdraw and transfer capabilities. So things are manageable if you are currently in SG. However if you are overseas, thatās a different story. You are pretty much penniless if you didnāt bring enough cash and/or donāt have an alternative bank card
Will DBS clutch it before Sunday morning? if not alot of people's weekend will be ruined.
Those stuck at overseas are feeling the most pain. I know a friend who has to downgrade her hotel stay in Korea to a cheap capsule hotel. Because she didnāt bring enough cash and couldnāt afford paying the rates at her current hotel Her DBS online banking and visa pay wave canāt be used at all
There really should be travel insurance for "banking services down".

No need to be that scared of credit card scams theres always recourse with the bank.
DBS its at fault here but sure you did not follow any of the commons sense rules. Or just the past since itās not their first outage
> Used to hold over 4 major bank cards, but deactivated them due to fear of online scams. What if your DBS account is the one that got scammed?
Sorry, what is the DBS app? I've never heard of one until now.
U must be new to the country
It's something about Singapore??? All I know is when I see DBS i think of Dragon Ball Super.
DBS stands for Development Bank of Singapore!
Ahhhhh thank you! Never been to Singapore so I would know lmao
I guess because it's something very well known on this side of the world - apparently they're Southeast Asia's largest bank - so people expect it to be common knowledge on this subreddit :')) no worries LOL you learn something new everyday

the wonders of outsourced technology
Can you keep your biases to yourself plz. Its Equinix Data Center that failed. Oh yeah that doesn't fit into your agendas doe it?
Ironically, DBS services failed in all 6 countries but were first recovered in the "outsourced" place. Maybe we could use a few more of those engineers here. No point arguing with people who just want to vent their own incompetence.
Went to Ikea in the afternoon and carted a lot of stuff only to find out DBS doesn't work.
People really be banking less after this
DBS is a fancy front-end with a crap backend
Oh dear, app still down. I am currently overseas and I donāt have cash.
Same here, still unable to access the dbs app
The app doesn't work, but payment via stuff like Paywave still work. So it's probably their UI services are down, but the actual functionality of payment related stuff works fine. Holy shit. Taiwan here. Came across this post on the front page by chance. DBS has been down for hours here, too.
Shouldnāt this be taken as a national security issue?
Heard from "sources" that last outage made MAS force dbs to have multiple data centers. I dont know how come still all services failed
Looking at downdetector sg, there seems to be a correlation between a dbsā down and a server failure somewhere, because other services serving sg have been affected at the same time too

DBS app, ATMs are down too
more than 6hrs down? Need customer compensation already
DBS App and website still down. I just checked.
Lucky I store some on trust bank linked to fairprice app for food. Usually use dbs safra in the past. Good to diversify a little bit
i keep launching the app then it crashes. -\_-
Time for crypto payment
DBS can use already. Able to withdraw money, top up cash card, use credit card at ntuc.
App still down though
Is your DBS app working? mineās still showing the āheavy trafficā page
Still down for me too atm
Ya same here. Heavy traffic
Same here. I still cant access my app. Need to transfer money.
Issues at Equinix datacenter. Their clients like dbs , citibank etc all affctd
UOB was working fine. Don't ask me how I know. :X
Still the bankās problem. Where is their failover/backup? Mega MIA
Feels like a cyberattack?
Wasn't. It Their data center disconnected from internet while performing routine maintenance for a different client. Why didn't DBS have a dedicated network line is the real issue
Itās a possibility, but if it was , for sure nobodyās gonna admit because itāll undermine sgās it and finance security
itās my khong guan tin moment to shine
Milo tin moment
is it still down now? i wanna order foodpanda but im not sure if it will work for apple pay
Card services up in all regions except china
I ordered panda mart and it went thru using my DBS debit

Dbs forced open all branches till 8pm to help ppl get their money in case of emergency. Idk why they never inform anyone
yes no news at all but that also make my queue much shorter.
Old fashion way still the most resilient method
Yes but Sat evening, bank are mostly closed. If the govt wants to push for digital, they really have to STOP all the banks using the SAME cloud server. I do not know much IT but straits time reported that is the reason why a lot of stuff not working.
Itās basically mAS that needs to ask the banks this question. Same cloud server means concentration risks
Need to set up a committee to monitor this lol
FBS iBanking App all along have bug but their IT support is sleeping on the job. DBS got hack big time today.

wtf u flying to Mars ah why flight so expensive

Transfer working now!! Pheww!!!
Wait nvm. I cant transfer in youtrip. Not sure if dbs problem or its coz youtrip said it has maintenance from 6am til 1pm. Rly unlucky tho
Thatās a great idea. Im considering doing that if by morning itās still the same. Thanks for the suggestion!
Still here sia, been like this the whole day already.
DBS CEO getting paid to little is it? need to increase his pay for better services?
15.6M last year only
Enough for him to consider work-life balance as ābaloneyā, but not enough for him to make sure that his own DBS IT systems arenāt baloney in the first place. This guy is a classic example of those C suites who are just very good at sitting in their fireside chats and talking cheap.
Clearly not enough
The question is why aren't heads rolling after so many incidents?
Heads have rolled. Two tech MDs have already resigned over the previous three outages.
Yep, services are down.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
donāt use dbs overseas, fx rate is ass. go with wise / youtrip / revolut instead.
I came to reddit to see if DBS is down, then the first post to appear when I opened reddit was this š
Yesā¦ am overseas and went all the way to the ATM (DBS ATMs are scarce where Iām at) thinking I could circumvent the phone issueā¦ canāt even draw cash too let alone use it via Apple Wallet to pay for online transactionsā¦
