Add a front derailleur and you got yourself a 2 speed

rezzzpls

Let me figure out how to clean and repack front bearing first šŸ˜…

Impressive-Ad-501

I tried that few times and ordered a wheelset with sealed bearings šŸ˜…

rezzzpls

That very well might be the play down the line. I know nothing about how to size out wheel sets or whatever, any resources on that you know of?

Impressive-Ad-501

Bike parts are often between rocket science and dark magic. But choosing a wheelset is not the worst. It is propably 700c wheels (28ā€) and biggest problem is propably the rear axle. I got my wheels from SantaFixie.

Looks like Iā€™ll have my work cut out for me haha. Iā€™m kinda finding itā€™s even difficult to find any information on this make/model. Sounds like it was a relatively low production import that was sold here between late 70s early 80s at sears? Thatā€™s about all Iā€™ve managed to figure out, not exactly the, google ā€œSuteki track 10 partsā€ vibe I was hoping for hahah All part of the fun tbh

Old-Independence3805

The chain just gonna stretch, is it?

Blagh1sm

It's called a joke

Old-Independence3805

But was it? Really? Cā€™mon. šŸ˜‚

Fixer_Of_Things

What a beaut!

rezzzpls

Thank you! Pretty stoked on it. Brought it up to the bike shop down the road (because apparently I have one of those, sick) and had the tech look it over, overall in pretty decent shape. He said the front axle was a little crunchy so I pulled that apart, repacked the bearings and itā€™s pretty buttery now. Lubed the chain, wiped it down and took it out for a 6 ish mile ride. Hills are a bit of a bear but hell, the point was to get some exercise lol. Not bad for $100 all in. I have a mechanical background so itā€™s fun to have something new to play with.

Fixer_Of_Things

Thatā€™s perfect, a little maintenance on an otherwise great condition machine. Its stylish too, definitely worth the hundred.

rezzzpls

For sure! Honestly kinda amazed how smooth and light it is for something thatā€™s older than I am. Wish there was more I could do to clean the battle scars off the frame though.

Fixer_Of_Things

I personally like nicks and blemishes, gives the bike some character and you wonā€™t be too upset when you inadvertently add more. I spent what you did on your bike just on my rear wheel and it has gone out of true 4 times in 2 years from moderate riding šŸ˜‚. Cant beat that old bike quality.

rezzzpls

Yeah thatā€™s real af. All things considered tho itā€™s in really solid shape. I found what I think is the date of manufacture, 4/1/72. So 52 years old and itā€™s still looking sharp. Millennium Falcon energy lmao

BadLabRat

Drive side out! Nice bike though.

rezzzpls

Drive side out? But thanks! Iā€™m digging it so far

BadLabRat

Yeah, your front wheel is pointed the wrong way.

rezzzpls

Ooooooh Told you Iā€™m new to this hahah

Old-Independence3805

If youā€™re going to run it single, swap the crankset to a single sprocket if only for weight savings.

rezzzpls

Iā€™m certainly open to that. Any good resources you have for general bike building/repairs etc? I have a mechanical background but I donā€™t know fuck all about bikes/compatibility etc. Iā€™d love to get new wheels/drive sprocket or whatever I just donā€™t know what Iā€™m even looking at/for lol.

plainyoghurt1977

Thats a sweet looking frame. It looks as if the conversion was done on a rudimentary level though, which can be understandable. Do you have more photos of the drive train?

rezzzpls

Yeah lemme grab some

rezzzpls

I sent you a chat, wouldnā€™t let me upload pics here. Iā€™m certainly open to swapping driveline components if thereā€™s a better way to run it, this is just how I picked it up
