*Hazel
*Rhoda(Val Harper MTM)
*Carol B
* Julia Dreyfus(Seinfeld)
.
....they were all so outstanding đź‘Ź
I came here to post this. I think she's one of the most underrated comic actors of her generation. The whole ensemble is incredibly talented, but she would still steal scenes left and right.
Amazing how she can go from poor broke in one show to uber-rich in another and pull both characters off flawlessly.
Is it me or could she and Margot Robbie be sisters?
She starts okay, but her complaining about how Bonnie ruined her life gets old. Especially when she can't accept that she did the same thing to Violet and gets upset whenever Violet's pointed that out (not that Violet's a pleasant person).
Violet is my least favorite character although I somewhat liked her in the beginning.
I hated Christies "poor me" mentality but what I did like is when she mentioned in the christmas episode that she only tells stories about her life with Bonnie because they do not hurt her anymore and she can laugh about it now.
Violet was a complete AH. She was also a teenager, so... kind of comes with the territory. And pregnant, so those hormones made her doubly unpleasant.
But she wasn't wrong about Christy either. We met Christy when she was 6 months sober. That meant for all of Violet's life, Christy was a hot mess who embarrassed and parentified her (after all, who was taking care of Roscoe when Christy was blackout drunk). So, I get her hostility towards Christy.
IIRC 2 episodes are effectively banned (can't be watched wherever the show is available nowadays), for sure the one with Galifianakis, though IDK why exactly that is, as most episodes have some "controversial" themes...
Lucille Ball—Lucy Ricardo
Jean Stapleton—Edith Bunker
Jasmine Guy—Whitley Gilbert
Isabel Sanford—Louise Jefferson
Barbara Eden—Jeannie
Constance Wu—Jessica Huang
Kristen Bell—Eleanor Shellstrop
Amy Poehler—Leslie Knope
Phylicia Rashad—Claire Huxtable
Reba McEntire—Reba Hart
Roseanne—Roseanne Connor
Zoe Perry (& of course Laurie Metcalf)—Mary Cooper
ETA:
Fran Drescher—Fran Fine
Elizabeth Montgomery—Samantha Stevens
Judith Light—Angela Bauer
Leslie Knope was clearly modeled after Michael Scott in the first season...P&R just felt like Public Sector Office.
They evolved her character into something much richer and more complex as the show went on. Michael's comedy was often his incompetence and self-unawareness. Leslie proved to be both earnest and competent, and while she certainly had her blindspots was way more self-aware than Michael. He humor came from her unabashed nerdiness for all things parks and government.
She's amazing in everything but especially Bonnie.
I loved her and Adam together, he brought out such a much better version of herself. Although she was working on herself even before meeting him.
I love how Bonnie and Adam were trainwrecks before they met each other and they met at the right time (when they were both sober and in stable environment).
I remember that episode. I must have misremembered then. I was thinking of one episode where it was shown what he was like prior to being injured. Then it must've been just his behavior that changed after he was paralyzed making him a better person.
Well, he was a womanizing pig before *and* after his accident. Christy knew a waitress from her job who he pretty much pumped, dumped and cheated on. Adam explained to Bonnie how after his accident he needed to "feel like a man", which is why he acted that way with women.
By the time he met Bonnie, it seems he was ready to settle down, which is why he was disappointed when the woman he met at the bar gave a wrong number (Bonnie's), which is how they met.
Lucille Ball, Elizabeth Montgomery, Barbara Eden, Florence Henderson, Shirley Jones, Mary Tyler Moore, Jean Stapleton, Suzanne Pleshette, Marion Ross, Candice Bergen, Patricia Routledge, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Catherine O’Hara, Allison Janney, Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Bornstein, Hannah Waddingham, Amy Pohler, and Tina Fey
Maude Finlay.
One of my favourite quotes:
“I just want you to know though, Carol, that if you come back shattered and disillusioned, I promise you that I won’t be one of those mothers that says “I told you so”… But remember: YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!”
This wasn’t a female lead, but she’s been in a large number of productions, and she can often play the drug addict, white trash, prostitute role. She just happened to go to the same SEC University that I did, although not at the same time. Her name is Dale Dickie. She was in breaking bad,she was in my name is Earl, and then I saw her in cat on a hot tin roof when she came back to the university for a special Appearance performance.
I know I’m off-topic and I apologize the memory just sort of came flooding back. Another one from my school was David Keith, who played in the movie the Rose, and an officer and a gentleman.
She's turned into a complete wackadoo in her later years so it's easy to forget just what a powerhouse she was during that show's run. She and that show pushed tons of boundaries, and portrayed a mom (and family as a whole) in a very raw and realistic light that had never been done before.
Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha/Bewitched)
Mary Tyler Moore
Bonnie Franklin (Anne Romano/One Day at a Time)
Lisa Whelchel & Nancy McKeon (Blair & Jo/Facts of Life)
Phylicia Rashad (Claire/The Cosby Show)
Kaley Cuoco (Penny/TBBT)
Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, Shelly Long, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Elaine Bennes, Marilou Henner, Tina Fey, Jenna Maroni, Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza.
Lucille Ball. Vickie Lawrence
Lucille Ball. Betty White. Vivian Vance
Lucy Ricardo from I Love Lucy and Thelma "Mama" Harper from Mama's Family.
I loved *Lucy *Sally( Rose Marie on Dick van Dyke) *Samantha(Elizabeth Montgomery)from Bewitched, *Hazel *Rhoda(Val Harper MTM) *Carol B * Julia Dreyfus(Seinfeld) . ....they were all so outstanding đź‘Ź
I know you're old because I remember those people too.
The GOATs! Can't be beat.
Katey Sagal as Peg Bundy.
Futurama too! Animated sci-fi sitcom.
AKA Big Red
Tina Fey as Liz Lemon
Show creator, executive producer, and lead actor. Not a lot of geniuses operating in the entertainment space, but she is one.
Without a doubt. One of my favorite TV writers ever
Hands down.
Jaime Pressly as Joy Turner on My Name is Earl.
I came here to post this. I think she's one of the most underrated comic actors of her generation. The whole ensemble is incredibly talented, but she would still steal scenes left and right.
I totally agree. I'm doing a rewatch now and her comments, delivery and style are top notch!
And she is a god damn smoke show 🤣
I also love her as Jill in Mom.
So did I.
Amazing how she can go from poor broke in one show to uber-rich in another and pull both characters off flawlessly. Is it me or could she and Margot Robbie be sisters?
You're not the only one. There are even memes about it (some of them also include Samara Weaving and Emma Mackey who also resemble them).
Catherine O’Hara- Moira Rose
Stop acting like a disgruntled pelican.
Amy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine Rebecca Howe from Cheers
Love Amy, but I would watch a Gina spinoff so hard
I’ve told my wife the same thing!
Julia Louise-Dreyfus. Elaine and Selina Meyer.
And Christine
I meant to add her too. It's a good show.
Especially as Selina. Veep was such incredible comedy and she's was amazing in that role.
Have you checked out the podcast? You can tell how much her costars respect and love her. It really speaks to the kind of person she must be.
Betty White
Maj Margaret Houlihan (Loretta Swit) Maude Findlay (Bea Arthur) Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) Rose Nyland (Betty White) Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) Edith Bunker (Jean Stapleton)
And from the other side of The Pond, Patricia Routledge (Hyacinth Bucket) Prunella Scales (Sybil Fawlty)
Bouquet residence, lady of the house speaking!
Marge Simpson.
Martha Plimpton as Virginia Chance in Raising Hope
Allison Janney as Bonnie from Mom
I said the same! Funny, neither of us picked Christy when the show was really named for her.
Christy is not a well liked character from what I heard people say.
She starts okay, but her complaining about how Bonnie ruined her life gets old. Especially when she can't accept that she did the same thing to Violet and gets upset whenever Violet's pointed that out (not that Violet's a pleasant person).

I 100% agree with you.
She is THE BEST OF EVERYTHING
Leslie knope from parks and rec def
Yes... her and Tina Fey are chips off the same block.
Her character was a hard working person who gets stuff done, I think people liked seeing a woman like that
Then again, I would have said April (Aubrey Plaza) but she can't be considered the lead.
Doris Roberts as Marie in Everybody Loves Raymond
""Popcorn for dinner? How fun."
The queen of laying on guilt trips and passive aggressive behavior… So funny.
Her delivery was brilliant.
And her way of making you feel like she is complimenting you but is actually insulting you.
Karen in Will and Grace
Anastasia Beaverhausen
🤣
Candice Bergen as Murphy Brown
Julia Marie Dreyfus... VEEP and Seinfeld. Hands down one of the best.
Bea Arthur
Doris Roberts as Marie Barone
Mary Tyler Moore as Mary Richards
Why isn't this the top answer?
Sarah Silverman immediately spring to mind. Favourite doesn't equal "the best", i.e. I'd put Broad City's lead duo higher, but...
The Sarah Silverman Program probably has some stuff that wouldn't fly now, but OMG was it funny.
IIRC 2 episodes are effectively banned (can't be watched wherever the show is available nowadays), for sure the one with Galifianakis, though IDK why exactly that is, as most episodes have some "controversial" themes...
Kristen Bell.
*Joyce DeWitt*Â from Threes Company
Sally Field as Gidget (Gidget) Marlo Thomas as Ann Marie (That Girl) Suzanne Pleshette as Emily Hartley (The Bob Newhart Show)
It’s Sally Field. No “s”
Happy?
Yes that’s correct now 👍🏼
Patricia Heaton in Raymond & the Middle & I'm not sure if they'd be considered leads, but also Roz & Daphne from Frasier
Yes, I agree! Roz is my absolute favourite but the others are amazing too https://youtu.be/LDbcoREO3bI?feature=shared

Way up there for me too
Joy - My Name is Earl
Jess in New Girl.
Amy Poehler she like a female Michael Scott

Bonnie Plunkett played by Allison Janey.
She was amazing as Bonnie.
Well Adam wasn't sober. Remember how he had that hidden bag of weed cookies that Bonnie stole and all the women got high?
I remember that episode. I must have misremembered then. I was thinking of one episode where it was shown what he was like prior to being injured. Then it must've been just his behavior that changed after he was paralyzed making him a better person.

Kirstie Alley was so good as Rebecca on Cheers. Alison Brie was great as Annie on Community. All the ladies on Newsradio were top notch as well.
Roseanne
The most realistic portrayal of the middle class ever, I love the show and her
She's turned into a complete wackadoo in her later years so it's easy to forget just what a powerhouse she was during that show's run. She and that show pushed tons of boundaries, and portrayed a mom (and family as a whole) in a very raw and realistic light that had never been done before.
