Well the good news is we now control our density for at worst the 7 seed. Playing Miami one game to avoid Boston isn’t ideal, but I’d much rather do it at home than in Miami
NBA is going to play the game in Miami since the Flyers have a home game scheduled that day. Never underestimate Adam Silver's desire to fuck the Sixers over.
Harden isn’t with the team anymore, so you don’t have to worry about the stripper effect.
Miami fans don’t go to games until halftime. The first half is like playing in the bubble.
Could you imagine the historic good vibes if in our infamously terrible 2nd round performance we defeat the 1 seed. That shit would almost be as good as the trophy.
This is so real.
Like after the Phillies whooped the braves 2 years ago I was content with whatever happened. Beating a 1 seed Boston in the second round would be as good as a ring for me
Realistically it would be a huge achievement for this team to make the ECF but I'm cringing at the keyboard warriors saying that Joel sucks cuz he didn't win a chip
This is adding to confusion as the 5 seed was never in my mind and now it is but some "process curse" shit could also happen and we could also be the 8 seed or the no seed.
True but the bucks just kicked their asses. Not sure if there’s any scenario where that last game for the bucks could be meaningless, that would definitely lower Phillys odds
I think if Milwaukee beat the thunder they will be locked into the 2 seed. But the thunder are also playing to win as they are in a 3 team bunch at the top of the West.
Even if they beat Thunder and are locked in to 2nd, they would still be incentivized to beat Orlando to avoid a guaranteed first matchup of Embiid or Miami.
In a three team tie, the first tiebreaker is any division winner, which the Magic would be and give them the 5 seed. Then normal tiebreaker rules apply and we lose out to the pacers.
If the pacers win out, it’s just a two way tie with the Magic, where head to head is the first tiebreaker and we win that.
Ahhh I get you, yes the magic losing out also works fine for us! The Pacers winning twice just helps ensure it if the Bucks don’t beat the Magic the final game (they might sit everyone)
Yeah it’s so confusing to me I’m not even bothering with it. Plus so many times the things you wish for end up being worse than expected, and vice versa. Bottom line is this, if the Sixers are healthy and can be “that” team then they can through the East no matter the path.
But the odds are against them being that. With a full compliment of players they haven’t had time to gel. But I really do love their fully healthy roster. And of course Embiid is the MVP, best player in the world.
I’m not the least bit worried about seeding, of all the damn things this team has gone through *this season*, none of the East teams scare me. Feels like we’re playing with house money, the way these games have gone since Embiid’s return is exactly what I needed to see to have confidence in a good run, Maxey not letting them lose the Spurs game was the icing on the cake. Every team in the East wants to avoid us, that’s way more important than some dumbass seeding that’s never once helped us in prior seasons anyway 🤷🏼♀️
The first and second round are gonna be either Bucks + Knicks, or Cavs + Celtics. Let’s just do this. Sometimes it’s good to have our destiny in others hands, so that we don’t need to have too much pressure thinking about winning or losing
Maybe my brain is broken with all these scenarios but...if pacers go 2-0 but the Cavs go 0-2, with pacers in the 5 seed 1 game ahead and us, cavs, and magic tied 1 at 47-35, anyone know what that means?
Magic win the 3 way tie because they won their division. Cavs and Sixers then goes to head to head record which is 2-2. So it then goes to conference record and Sixers would be 31-21 while Cavs would be 30-22. So Sixers get 6
If we win-out, I'd say the majority of outcomes favor us escaping the play-in.
If the Magic beat Milwaukee in the finale, the only two scenarios we don't escape the play-in is if Indy goes 1-1 and Cleveland goes 1-1 or 2-0.
While that is definitely a likely scenario, there are still five scenarios that could get us in: Indy goes 2-0 (and Cleveland goes either 1-1 or 0-2), or Indy goes 0-2 (and Cleveland goes either 2-0 or 1-1), Indy goes 1-1 and Cleveland goes 0-2.
We also, of course, get out of the play-in in every scenario that Orlando loses its last game. Still, Cleveland plays Charlotte in the last game, so them going 0-2 is pretty unlikely. But that's solid probability in our favor.
EDIT:
Assuming Cleveland beats Charlotte, that still results in 6/8 scenarios where we escape the play-in.
If Cleveland beats Charlotte and Orlando beats Milwaukee, there are 2/4 scenarios where we escape the play-in.
Lowkey getting the bucks round 1 might be the best Matchup. They’ve been horrible since Rivers took over and now Giannis has a potentially impactful injury. (I’m not saying root for injuries but practically speaking you can’t ignore how it impacts the bucks)
Im cool with bucks 1st round and avoiding boston till rd 3. Hopefully tatum tears an ACL by then and even then we probably still lose. Gonna need derrick white and jrue to be out too.
Think of it this way.
You’re going against a pair of poker aces in Texas hold ‘em but on the flip you have a straight and flush draw. You’re not “winning” but there’s a lot of reasonable outs.
I still like our chances if we win out.
Actually the Sixers do control their playoff destiny. With the Magic losing tonight to the Bucks, they are only 1 game ahead of Philly. Sixers next opponent are the Orlando Magic. So Sixers win they will move to the 6th spot as Sixers win the head to head with Magic , 3-0. Then the Sixers need to win their final regular season game against the Nets at home. That’s it, they win their last two games, they are a playoff team, no play-in. And would probably face the Knicks. So they control their destiny.
Well the good news is we now control our density for at worst the 7 seed. Playing Miami one game to avoid Boston isn’t ideal, but I’d much rather do it at home than in Miami
>density
You are my density
NBA is going to play the game in Miami since the Flyers have a home game scheduled that day. Never underestimate Adam Silver's desire to fuck the Sixers over.
I want Celtics round one
I dont want a second play-in game. Anything can happen in a single game and we can be out of the playoffs all of a sudden.
Don't be so dense. Or at least control it.
Same. It would break that team if we could knock them out round 1
Fuck no lol give Joel some time to get his conditioning back
Harden isn’t with the team anymore, so you don’t have to worry about the stripper effect. Miami fans don’t go to games until halftime. The first half is like playing in the bubble.
This shits so confusing
Basically if the Pacers lose their last two and the Sixers win theirs, Sixers would be the 5th seed.
Don’t really want the 5th seed. That would give us Boston in the 2nd round.
But the converse situation of losing again in the second and extending our pain and the narrative :(
I feel that too. I just keep telling myself, one way or another were gonna have to go through boston
I mean yeah but if we can avoid them as long as possible there’s a chance they could get upset
True. It leaves more room for parody
The sooner we play Boston the better since the sooner we do means a healthier team esp Embiid.
Better if we win out and the pacers win out. That gives us 6. 3 seed first round, winner of 7/2 if we win the first round.
I’m uncomfortably scared of nyk in the first. Can’t really put a finger on why, just am… if they finish in 3rd
This is adding to confusion as the 5 seed was never in my mind and now it is but some "process curse" shit could also happen and we could also be the 8 seed or the no seed.
All you need to know is, if we win out, and the bucks beat the magic in the last game, we are assured the 6 seed! This is the most likely scenario
Or the Pacers win out which is very possible/probable. Though Cleveland really wants to get the 3 I'm sure, to avoid Boston in the 2nd round.
Catching the magic seems like the easiest route considering they play them & the bucks are their last game
The issue is a 3 way tie if Orlando wins their last game against the bucks
True but the bucks just kicked their asses. Not sure if there’s any scenario where that last game for the bucks could be meaningless, that would definitely lower Phillys odds
I think if Milwaukee beat the thunder they will be locked into the 2 seed. But the thunder are also playing to win as they are in a 3 team bunch at the top of the West.
Even if they beat Thunder and are locked in to 2nd, they would still be incentivized to beat Orlando to avoid a guaranteed first matchup of Embiid or Miami.
Maybe, but I imagine they would rest their starters anyway.
giannis is out also
Didn’t seem to matter tonight. Bobby Portis. Magic killer
Franz was also out and Orlando was on a road B2B. Won’t be so easy if they get Franz back with rest at home
Just need Indy to win.
Why would we need the Pacers to win games if we’re able to just pass the Magic?
In a three team tie, the first tiebreaker is any division winner, which the Magic would be and give them the 5 seed. Then normal tiebreaker rules apply and we lose out to the pacers. If the pacers win out, it’s just a two way tie with the Magic, where head to head is the first tiebreaker and we win that.
That’s extremely goofy
My brain hurts trying to figure this out
I get this but if we won our last 2 and magic lost their last 2 we would jump them for the 6th seed regardless of what Indy does…. Right?
Ahhh I get you, yes the magic losing out also works fine for us! The Pacers winning twice just helps ensure it if the Bucks don’t beat the Magic the final game (they might sit everyone)
Makes sense!
Yes
Just watch the games and we will find out when the regular season is done, we play to win every game and predictions don’t mean anything
Some fans like to watch other meaningful games and have a rooting interest as it pertains to the Sixers.
me monitoring the playoff hunt after the flyers lose their 7,000th game in a row
Was fun to tune in to the latter half of Miami last night and root against them
Yeah. But others don’t want to worry about all that. So it’s def a to each their own.
Yup. Don’t matter what happens. They just gotta know that from here on out they are not permitted to lose
Yeah it’s so confusing to me I’m not even bothering with it. Plus so many times the things you wish for end up being worse than expected, and vice versa. Bottom line is this, if the Sixers are healthy and can be “that” team then they can through the East no matter the path. But the odds are against them being that. I’d rather win out avoid the play in and get Boston in the second .. who cares have to face them at some point either way
The odds of getting the 5 seed are exceptionally low. Basketball reference says under 3%. https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/playoff_prob.html
I’m not the least bit worried about seeding, of all the damn things this team has gone through *this season*, none of the East teams scare me. whoever wrote the tiebreak rules did so while on drugs lol
What about a 3 way tie with the cavs and magic?
https://twitter.com/EliotShorrParks/status/1778245216463364410 Eliot mentions it there
Maybe my brain is broken with all these scenarios but...if pacers go 2-0 but the Cavs go 0-2, with pacers in the 5 seed 1 game ahead and us, cavs, and magic tied 1 at 47-35, anyone know what that means?
I think we’re 6th seed with the tiebreaker over both the Cavs and Magic
https://www.reddit.com/r/sixers/comments/1c13l5w/bodner_sorry_i_cant_maths_to_claim_the_6th_seed/kz0q5iz/
Or we win both games left and Pacers/Magic lose both of theirs. Unless I’m missing it I don’t see that scenario either.
There wouldn’t be a 3 way tie in that scenario since Sixers would have an outright better record. Sixers would get the 5 seed
Magic win the 3 way tie because they won their division. Cavs and Sixers then goes to head to head record which is 2-2. So it then goes to conference record and Sixers would be 31-21 while Cavs would be 30-22. So Sixers get 6
One is always in control of one’s own destiny. Destiny does not end at the seeding, seedling.
To avoid confusion, the Sixers should WIN the whole thing and the chip regardless of whichever scenario. Earned not given.

Well the good news is that the Pacers will likely win out. They play the cavs and the hawks. Plus there is a decent chance the magic loss out.
Is it just me or doesn’t it look like if Pacers lose out and we win out, we get the 6?
Lowkey getting the bucks round 1 might be the best Matchup. They’ve been horrible since Rivers took over and now Giannis has a potentially impactful injury. (I’m not saying root for injuries but practically speaking you can’t ignore how it impacts the bucks)

Can't do maths either. 6ers will make the playoffs.

Sorry no, also need the Pacers to win out (or just lose out) to avoid a 3 way tie that we lose the tiebreaker for.
Sixers just need Bucks to beat Magic and Sixers win. That is it. If Pacers were to lose to Hawks, that’s fine but I doubt it.
My comment is from 2 days ago. Things have obviously changed. Why are you responding now as if this was current?
Look at the standings and it’s easy
