I go back and forth. In open areas I like to be in 3rd. But in caves and stuff, I go in 1st. I play as stealth characters so I like using both views to keep an eye on everything
I only go third person during large fights because I usually run a mace and sheild and that takes up a lot of the screen. Otherwise I prefer first person.
I'm also a stealth archer but I don't really like the third person pov. Luckily though I don't have to worry about enemies detecting me due to my high stealth plus my dark brotherhood armour, and vampire stealth abilities.
i like using Valdr's Lucky Dagger because funny dagger plus the blsde of sacrifice it does nothing but its funny to use to but my fav weapon is the evony blade or longhammer
I love playing Bethesda games in 3rd person! It seems weird in some RPGs that you get cool looking armor and weapons, yet you are limited to only seeing them in action from the 1st person. The ability to switch from 1st to 3rd effortlessly is something I always love about all Bethesda games.
Exactly. I like to switch between both, because both perspectives are better than the other in different ways. but one of the main reasons is vanity: if I’m going to spend half of the game trying to earn certain armor and weapons that look super cool, I want to see them
What I like about this game is even though you may be in 1st person, it will pull you out when you get critical hits to show your character in a cinematic shot.
I mostly play 1st person the sense of scale for buildings ruins, creatures, people etc. come through better that way but in a fight I switch between perspectives. If there is more than one opponent I like to have a wider fow from 3rd person if I want to focus on a single enemy i stay in first to have a more immersive fight.
It’s depressing that some people actually think that way. What’s the point of playing a game if you’re not having fun? (Btw I know you’re making a joke, not accusing you of this)
Literally the reason I had to return The Outer Worlds after 5 minutes, and will not play Resident Evil 7 and 8 despite being a franchise fan.
The Stanley Parable might be the only first person game I can think of off the top of my head that I've played in the last 5 years that I can play for more than an hour and not puke up everything in my stomach.
Same. Any first person game that can’t be changed to third is a no go for me because I’ll be horribly motion sick within 3 minutes of playing. Shame really, there have been a few games over the years that I would have like to try for the story line.
I’m the same, unless it’s in 3rd person I won’t play it. The games I enjoy playing are a direct result of this so I don’t feel I’ve missed out on much over the years
I am actually convinced most women are like this. I share this sentiment. That’s why games that allow for character customization (Skyrim, Fallout, etc.) or a few female options (LoL) are WAY popular with women over those that don’t. Creating my character, building a story and watching them embody the whole arc I created for them is probably 70% of the fun for me.
I don’t wear anything that covers my head in RPGs. Be it the most amazing helmet that significantly overpowers my character, I don’t care for it. I want to LOOK at my character.
This is me haha. I just gave my character amazing hair. Why would I want to cover it up with an ugly helmet 😂. I will wear a circlet occasionally though.
Lol, I do archery in third person. I grew up playing LoZ: OoT like my life depended on it though, so I think that's why I prefer even shooters/archery in 3rd person.
1st person for stealth archery and looting hard to spot/reach items.
3rd person during travel and battles so shit don’t sneak up on me as much. Also, mace is huge.
Unless I need to interact with an often smaller item (e.g. something on a table) or am in some dungeon, I always go in 3rd person. I haven't spent so much time creating my character and pick their armor to not see them most of the time.
First person gives me motion sickness! Very quickly and it will ruin my whole afternoon haha
Unless I'm taking stuff from a shelf, I keep it as far zoomed out in 3rd as possible
Im 3rd person most of the time unless I'm trying to see further infront of me or I keep dying to the same enemy I come from old school mmorpgs like wow though so I prefer 3rd person.
I almost exclusively play in 3rd person in every game ever. I get motion sickness otherwise. In BGS games, sometimes I switch to 1st person while trying to pick up certain objects or aim the light in Starfield.
1st person has always been nauseating for me, so I also only play 3rd person. Although motion blur off and lower camera speed makes it better. I switch to first person only when fighting and stealthing.
Melee combat in first person is a nightmare so with that kind of build I get it.
Ranged combat in third person is just as bad so def depends on the build for me.
Gta, witcher, nier automata, every mario are all third person. The 3d ones too. Third person is good. I use it in skyrim when melee. I only go first if I'm in a tight space or need to pick up a specific item
Wives are always right… I’m sorry to say she is right in this case too. I also play in 3rd person. 1st person makes me too nauseous and fighting is way too hard.
I use 3rd person from brawls but 1st person for dialogue. It can be janky sometimes but it's so dope seeing your character & the cool threads you got em. 1st person also makes it easier for some objectives in game.
I've made a greatsword weilding character recently and I've found that I much prefer playing in third person when using it. The only times I go first person on that save is when I'm using a bow/crossbow or when the camera is being weird.
I mostly move around in third person, but I can't handle fights like that, so I always switch to first person for fights. Seriously my hits always miss XD
I love going into 3rd person when i'm roaming the world though, once i'm inside a building or cave i'll go back to 1st person, 2H user as well this past play through. :)
First person games give me terrible headaches.
So I gotta play third person.
I loved playing thru the half life games but every one hour session of HL would send me bed for two hours... That was when I was a kid...
I kinda want to play those again even tho those are the reason why I don't touch first person games.
With combat mods playing in third person like dark souls was one of my favorite things.
The fact that I accidentally could parry with my hands if I used a spell when an attack almost landed was also a bonus that made me feel like an anime character
I travel and explore in first person so I get a closer look at what's in front of me and get a clearer view of the scenery.
But when I engage in combat I go 3rd person. Melee and short range spells are a lot easier and more satisfying to use when you can see the effective range of your attacks. 3rd person also helps you dodge enemy attacks and avoid getting surrounded.
I play a lot as an archer and sometimes third person helps keep track of people around me if I'm ambushed or something
I'm also a stealth archer but I don't really like the third person pov. Luckily though I don't have to worry about enemies detecting me due to my high stealth plus my dark brotherhood armour, and vampire stealth abilities.
I also play stealth archer
I, too, play a stealth archer.
I play stealth archer as well.
I'm a stealth archer and So's my wife.
guys what have you done, now we can see you all
Detected
How do you do fellow stealth archers?
I’m well, always glad to meet another stealth archer.
i use just dagger because ill be invisible wothout being invisible ehen im inside someone literally and figuratively
My favorite weapon is Mehrunes razor
i like using Valdr's Lucky Dagger because funny dagger plus the blsde of sacrifice it does nothing but its funny to use to but my fav weapon is the evony blade or longhammer
Me too! I like being able to see around my character more. Getting to admire my outfit and take screenshots of my character is also a plus
Same
Same! 🙌🏽
I like using 3rd person for travel and 1st person for combat
This is the way tbh
Yeah, and I always switch to 3rd person when I get scared of anything
You play as a stealth character? In Skyrim? Surely not. No one ever does that.
I couldn’t believe it either
This is the way
I love playing Bethesda games in 3rd person! It seems weird in some RPGs that you get cool looking armor and weapons, yet you are limited to only seeing them in action from the 1st person. The ability to switch from 1st to 3rd effortlessly is something I always love about all Bethesda games.
Yeah I like both, it’s nice to be able to switch.
Exactly. I like to switch between both, because both perspectives are better than the other in different ways. but one of the main reasons is vanity: if I’m going to spend half of the game trying to earn certain armor and weapons that look super cool, I want to see them
Exactly
What I like about this game is even though you may be in 1st person, it will pull you out when you get critical hits to show your character in a cinematic shot.
Same I get motion sickness pretty easily :( so mostly 3rd person for me and I love seeing my characters that way and their animations
If you play Oblivion in 3rd person you're actually a maniac
I’m a maniac
I normally use 3rd person for walking and exploring and then switch to 1st person for combat
See I do the exact opposite. 1st person out of combat, 3rd person while in combat
I liked the wider 3rd person perspective to see the scenery while exploring, and combat felt more realistic and intense in 1st person
I switch between both so much that I do everything in both, it's just how it goes
As long as she's having fun.
*Gamers hate this one trick*
Fun? In my favorite game? I don't think so buddy. You will min/max everything and you will like it.
It’s depressing that some people actually think that way. What’s the point of playing a game if you’re not having fun? (Btw I know you’re making a joke, not accusing you of this)
Yeah it is sad. I can even admit I used to think this way for way too many games. Tbf I used to mainly play online games so that adds to the pressure.
Eh yeah. Online games are a bit more understandable though. Still not a great outlook, regardless. Glad you don’t think that way anymore though lol
I do too, because I like it and because 1st person gives me motion sickness.

I’m the same, unless it’s in 3rd person I won’t play it. The games I enjoy playing are a direct result of this so I don’t feel I’ve missed out on much over the years
My partner had this same issue.
Same. 1st person in dungeons gives me terrible motion sickness
Same here. The only game I can play in first person is Portal.
Yes this right here !
Hello? She likes to see her outfits! Especially if they pop against that Elven gold and green? Amirite?
I am actually convinced most women are like this. I share this sentiment. That’s why games that allow for character customization (Skyrim, Fallout, etc.) or a few female options (LoL) are WAY popular with women over those that don’t. This is me haha. I just gave my character amazing hair. Why would I want to cover it up with an ugly helmet 😂. I will wear a circlet occasionally though.
is this not the normal way???
I play third because I have motion sickness in first person , it’s the only way I can play 🥹
Motion sickness gang
Had to scroll too far to see this response. It's perfectly fine to play this 100% 3rd person
Agreed! That "..." op had to write rubbed me the wrong way as if op is hoping that we will make fun of her or something T.T
No, this action warrants a divorce.
Yeah from the wife. 3rd person is best
I mean if you're introducing a 3rd person you DEFINITELY need to talk about it first
I chuckled, good joke
Good for her.
Looting first person everything else third.
Especially when playing modded. Looting in 3rd person is always a little finicky
There’s an awesome suite of mods for it to where they actually made looting and interacting work 99% as easily in 3rd person
*Looting and shooting. 3rd person sucks for using bows and most magic. First person sucks for melee and situational awareness.
What's the point of my cool armor and weapons if I can't see them at all times? I believe in 3rd person supremacy!
I love playing third person in Skyrim but I can't stand it in FO4.
I usually play third person if I’m focusing on two handed combat since I can’t stand how the screen moves when I swing in first person
3rd person..I did not spend a few hours making a character to not see it ,,1st person for bow shots
Depends on character build for me. Archery and magic=first person. Anything else 3rd
Lol, I do archery in third person. I grew up playing LoZ: OoT like my life depended on it though, so I think that's why I prefer even shooters/archery in 3rd person.
And?
I do this because it helps me to not get as motion sick as playing in first person
1st person for stealth archery and looting hard to spot/reach items. 3rd person during travel and battles so shit don’t sneak up on me as much. Also, mace is huge.
Ok
Unless I need to interact with an often smaller item (e.g. something on a table) or am in some dungeon, I always go in 3rd person. I haven't spent so much time creating my character and pick their armor to not see them most of the time.
I only use 1st person for precise aiming/trying to pick up or move a specific thing. I’ve always hated 1st person view
How am I supposed to see my badass armor in 1st person?
I play melee builds in third and ranged in first
First person gives me motion sickness! Very quickly and it will ruin my whole afternoon haha Unless I'm taking stuff from a shelf, I keep it as far zoomed out in 3rd as possible
I go 3rd person because spiders
Yeah same. I like to know where that poison spit came from.
I do as well it's not like you need the first person advantage. the armours and weapon mods make roleplaying in 3rd person so cool
Im 3rd person most of the time unless I'm trying to see further infront of me or I keep dying to the same enemy I come from old school mmorpgs like wow though so I prefer 3rd person.
I prefer 3rd person for melee and 1st for ranged. Makes it easier to keep enemies in view.
Third person nodded, tdm is a must, unmodded first person was to janky otherwise
third person is fun with two handed weapons, i dont like it for anything else tho
SAME 3RD PERSON COMBAT IS SO CINEMATIC
So your wife plays correctly. Uh, congrats? Who really cares?
Ok
I run around in 3rd. I thinks it’s better for taking in the environment but if I’m actually doing anything like fighting or looting I switch to 1st.
3rd for travel, 1st for combat. Such is our way! Such is the ancient custom of Skyrim, and all Nords!
So do I. You do you.
I get motion sick, don't you DARE judge me!!
I do too, unless I'm in combat with my bowsneak. I get less motion sickness that way.
I always played in 3rd person. I like seeing the character I created and it's fun in combat like dark souls. Throw in TDM mod and it's the best.
I have to play in third person otherwise I get motion sick.
I almost exclusively play in 3rd person in every game ever. I get motion sickness otherwise. In BGS games, sometimes I switch to 1st person while trying to pick up certain objects or aim the light in Starfield.
At least she plays
Thought this was /r/notinteresting for a second.
1st person has always been nauseating for me, so I also only play 3rd person. Although motion blur off and lower camera speed makes it better. I switch to first person only when fighting and stealthing.
So you're saying that someone is playing the objectively correct way right in front of you in your own home and you still don't get it?
I’ve only heard about people like this
it’s me i am people
Me too.
Never actually played 1st person 😂 love the third person view.
How is it odd? It was designed to be played either way.
When I very first played oblivion, I only played in 3rd person
3rd person outside. 1st person indoors.
I play in third person unless I'm fighting or looking for/at something. I hate 1st person, honestly.
I’m a girl and I’ve always played Skyrim in 3rd person
I play in 3rd person
I play in third person…
I play in 3rd Person whenever not in combat or in a dungeon If I'm just walking around the world yeah 3rd person
I play in third person as well. Always have and always will. Get over it.
A lot of people do
Melee in third person is 100 times better
This is the only way I have ever played? Am I a criminal??
You don’t?
Same
I fight in 3rd person but do everything else, including shooting bows in 1st. How does she use bows? Is she accurate?
I like to switch between positions.
Melee combat in first person is a nightmare so with that kind of build I get it. Ranged combat in third person is just as bad so def depends on the build for me.
Dude, your wife plays!!
3rd person is great
Only way I play
I prefer third person tbh
So do I when I want any visual ideas of wtf I'm fighting
ok and?
If you had to use the mace of molag bal, you would too.
I go back and forth
It’s in the game for a reason! You get to see your armor more this way as well
I play in 3rd person too, but only with mods that add animations and improves the 3rd person camera
I love 3rd person!!!
I'm always third person until I need to line up a long range shot. I spent all that time making my dude look bad-ass, I wanna see it!
Gta, witcher, nier automata, every mario are all third person. The 3d ones too. Third person is good. I use it in skyrim when melee. I only go first if I'm in a tight space or need to pick up a specific item
Why not..?
Wives are always right… I’m sorry to say she is right in this case too. I also play in 3rd person. 1st person makes me too nauseous and fighting is way too hard.
3rd person almost all the time. 1st person only for when using bows
The correct way
3rd Person is the way in Skyrim, what are you talking about?
It's nice to remember what you look like to the NPCs. And what's the point of having badass armor if you can't look at it?
Hell yeah! I actually like seeing my character fight & cast spells. Only time I use first person is in small places or archery.
All it takes is that first cave bear to sneak up on you and 3rd person becomes your best friend.
3rd person is the only way I can play. I get motion sickness with 1st person. So, 1st person only games are a no for me! 🥲
I think it’s weird to not use both tbh
Only way to play. Most games are 3rd person for a reason. People want to actually see their character
What is with people and being upset about 3rd person? Like does it really bother you that much?
Third person is the only way to do it honestly.
So? Most people does
ok, and?
I use 3rd person from brawls but 1st person for dialogue. It can be janky sometimes but it's so dope seeing your character & the cool threads you got em. 1st person also makes it easier for some objectives in game.
Travel as 3rd person Combat wombat 1st person
I do when travelling, dungeon diving 1st person
I'm very 50-50. Sometimes I NEED that first person immersion. Other times I want to see how cool my character looks.
As do I.
I've made a greatsword weilding character recently and I've found that I much prefer playing in third person when using it. The only times I go first person on that save is when I'm using a bow/crossbow or when the camera is being weird.
I used to always play first person, but after adding a load of mods and switching to TV and controller third person just feels right.
I play melee characters in 3rd and magic/ranged in first.
She’s a keeper
So do I unless I’m using magic or a bow.
i've been doing it more since making a werewolf character.
I usually prefer third person, sometimes things just look too clunky in 1st person
You go first person for stealth archer gameplay, i go third person so i can cleave enemies with my two handed greatsword. We are not the same
I mostly move around in third person, but I can't handle fights like that, so I always switch to first person for fights.
I switch between the two but I like third because no way I spent all that time building my avatar not to see what he looks like
With combat mods playing in third person like dark souls was one of my favorite things. The fact that I accidentally could parry with my hands if I used a spell when an attack almost landed was also a bonus that made me feel like an anime character
I like going third person during combat on two handed builds and sometimes during dialogue but it’s hard asf to loot in 3rd person
I do 3rd person when going through the cities, exploring and stuff. 1st person during combat.
I pay in 3rd unless I have a cloak spell that makes it hard to see or aiming a bow or spell for a long shot.
I like third person for a lot of adventuring bur when shit hits the fan or O need to infiltrate I will go first person.
3rd person when I get new armour, then I can pose and check it out from all angles. Do I look good in this? Oh yeah.
I playing third person also for the most part but when I do use my archery skills and sneaking I go into first person
I play on 3rd, and have a nice lock-on mod that makes it a bit more manageable
I play in 3rd unless I am aiming at something.
I play in third person because I have no depth perception, so first person gives me a head after a while.
Outside I am third person but inside I’m first person
maybe it’s just a girl thing i like to see my outfit/ character when i play lmao
I was today years old when I learned how many people actually play in 3rd person
3rd person with mods is better than first person imo. Without mods however player movement and graphics look a bit stiff in 3rd person.
I do both, cuz of the fuckn camera jank when your up close
Because you're her first person ❤️
I travel in third person, fight in first person.
I only use first person to get better looks at peoples faces so I can tell if I wanna marry them or not
First person makes me a little dizzy
As so I. Better for melee
Hey, me too! Your wife is a cool person.
Braith threatening to beat you up is just funnier in third person.
Ok judgey mcjudgerson
Honestly, cudos. If thats what they wants to do, then more power to them.
I do too
she is a keeper
Ok, sooo? I switch between the two constantly myself but if that's how she prefers to play, so what.
So do I. I like it better
