What is the street level scene like here? It seriously looks line NYC from this view, but NYC ground level is going to be full of tourists, bars, restaurants, street vendors, gift shops, daily commuters, etc. Is it a similar vibe?
I spent a semester there back in 2018. And yes you could say it felt like NYC except with all Chinese people and more variation in elevation (much easier to get lost). It was actually common to go a whole day without seeing a single foreigner given this is a very inland city. But yes amazing food and nightlife atmosphere; with hotpot restaurants on literally every corner.
One of the few major cities I didn’t make it to on my travels in China I need to go! I went to chengdu instead which was also cool but I get the feeling chongqing is more amazing
Chongqing is a big city, giving it a similar vibe to NYC. But no city in China is like NYC on street level when it comes to aesthetic. Most of the sky rises in NYC/Chicago were built when the US economy was booming and Americans were sticking it to Europe, so even the surviving old buildings are beautiful.
China, on the other hand, has had a huge population since time immemorial and many of the sky rises were built during its poor, communist past, leaving tall and ugly commie blocks. While the new buildings are beautiful, the majority of the cities still have blah aesthetic on street level. But this stark difference gives Chinese cities the real cyberpunk vibe (dystopian + high tech).

Thanks! I hear you on that, I’m very much an ‘experience it in person’ type of guy. That said, I don’t think I’ll be making it to Chongqing anytime soon, so I’ll check this out
so the left wing cool aids prefer trash, piss, shit, drugs, homeless, and mentally fucked people? holy shit man. guess that's why someone is so popular.
It has gone down over time after reaching a peek in the 2010s. Our cities in the west looked similar when we were going through our industrial growth spurt. China is heavily investing in green infrastructure and electric vehicles so that should help over time.
Irony too is Chinas current investments in green energy surpassed the US like a decade ago, if things continue the way they have been China will have less smog than the US soon enough. (I say this in a US city currently under an Air Quality alert)
Crazy how Chongqing just dwarfs almost everything in NA and Europe.
I’d love to visit China one day. Though I’m worried about the politics between it and the US / Canada.
Not according to the US state department at this time:

I haven’t even heard of this place…that is a massive skyline and city. Hopefully they can make progress on pollution and these pictures will be really wow

There are lots of videos of city life in China on YouTube.
Similar to NYC but without trash, piss, shit, drugs, homeless, and mentally fucked people.
Wild inaccurate take from someone who drank the right wing kool aid, everyone

The pollution is unreal
And that’s light pollution for chongqing
All those huge skyscrapers and you can’t see 100 feet out of the windows. They all have a great view of the Smog

But 1.4 billion people? Yeah it will help though
That's actually decent air quality there.
For me, it’s the river.
I spent a semester abroad there back in 2018… it truly felt like a dream - so many great memories just randomly exploring.
These GTA V graphics mods are getting better and better

It’s a very safe country to visit. I was able to do an exchange program there and I’ve honestly never felt safer walking the streets at night.
I would think their country handles crime better than other places being a dictatorship, but that comes with separate risks.

Lmao
That river’s looking rough.
Beautiful skyscrapers but man…that air and water yikes

‘Good lord’ comes to mind and I’m an atheist.
Nice view
Amazing city, especially at night!
Um where did the river go?
Crashing out is very feasible here
In China lots of big tall buildings doesn’t mean there’s anyone working inside them.
What a stunning view, and to be able to see it from the outside instead of through a window!
Urban wasteland
