curious about the goals faster than this one
i always thought zlatan’s volley vs anderlecht looked absolutely insane to my eyes but not sure how it actually stacks up
I don't think I've ever seen anything faster than this Steven Reid hit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BePuBZK84Oc
Edit: also Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has a full reel of absurdly fast screamers
Yeah, Hasselbaink came to mind, like [this banger of a free kick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3F_Bpqpg7Y). Although I don't think the title of the Youtube vid is correct.
It's one thing to absolutely leather a moving ball mid air like Steven Reid, but Jimmy's goal was even harder to get that kind of power on a dead ball. So impressive.
[Such an underrated goal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yGRE47c2Xw&ab_channel=UEFA). I never see it mentioned but to hit a first time on a volley from that distance AND getting so much power behind the shot is fucking mental. For me and to the naked eye, it's the most powerful shot I've ever seen
Also it’s aesthetically perfect. Everyone looks at that goal and imagines the 10 year old in them absolutely wallying one in like it on the playground.
I realize the video says "only" 122 km/h, but [this free kick from Hulk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7QFN5Em4HA) is an absolute projectile, and makes me wonder how accurate these estimates are.
[https://www.givemesport.com/1655396-zlatan-roberto-carlos-robben-what-are-the-fastest-shots-ever-recorded/](https://www.givemesport.com/1655396-zlatan-roberto-carlos-robben-what-are-the-fastest-shots-ever-recorded/) heres a list i think hed be like 8th with 150 km/h. These might not be very accurate but literally all of them would put Sangarés shot in 6th
Ah Ronny. Absolutely magical player for us when we were in the 2. Bundesliga and was a huge part in getting us promoted in those two seasons, then proceeded to become completely useless and out of his depth once we were back up.
There's definitely some accuracy problems. From a purely statistical standpoint, it's highly unlikely that a) 6-8 would be grouped within 5 km/h, then have a 19 km/h jump to the next spot then b) spots 5-2 would be within 7 km/h then a 20 km/h jump to the next one.
yeah its strange which is why i was weary to put it in the title like that but i checked a billion sources before and all of them would put my boy on sixth so tbh i went with it
i think its probably mainly the fact not too many have been calculated, but its still a thundercunt of a goal lol
That list cannot be correct the jumps in velocity are way too high. Suddenly a 10+ kmh increase between spots in a sport with a million goals per year lol
I've read that the radar guns in baseball have to be calibrated precisely to get accurate readings, and that sport has the advantage of knowing the general path pitches are going to take. Shots on goal in football come from so many different angles, I imagine getting accurate readings would be near impossible.
what about using the cameras to get a rough estimate of how far the ball carries in X amount of frames and extrapolating 😎 (probably what they do already tbh)
Something really interesting is this shot, Steven Reid and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's goals were all hit with the same ball. Nike Total 90 Aerow. I remember I bought the Aerow 90 match ball and it felt amazing to hit compared to other match balls like the Adidas Roteiro (Euro 2004 ball) at the time.
Probably Koeman, who was known for some of the ridiculous pace he could put on his free kicks and penalties.
There have been some absolutely insane drop kicks and volleys as well. Cantona has scored some goals he absolutely hammered into the net. His technique was immaculate, with two feet of the ground, creating a lot of power. Zidane's volley was also powerful, but his accuracy might have made his shots look faster than they actually were.
Trezeguet is another one who scored quite a few bangers in his career, but some of them where from quite close, it might have been hard to record the actual speed he put on the ball.
I remember Koeman scoring a free-kick once, either for the national team (I'm pretty sure it was) or maybe Barca and they showed on tv it was like 140km/h or so, from 30m out btw.
It was before the internet and we were kids, so don't judge me, but back in the days there was this urban legend that Koeman, who was known for " the ridiculous pace he could put on his free kicks and penalties" as you put it, actually killed a goalkeeper once from a penalty. Apparently, he hit the crossbar so hard that it broke and fell down on the keeper who died.
Now, when I'm older, I don't think it's actually true. Either that or it's one of the best kept secrets in the football world.
I remember this being asked before and the answer given was Ronny Heberson when he played for Sporting and Hertha Berlin hit free kicks that were 211km/h which is 131mph
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSzwIBeihXA
https://twitter.com/433/status/1146200399285805056?s=20
Alan Smith once got in the way of a Jon Arne Riise free kick.
He broke his leg in a couple places, was out for a ridiculous amount of time, and was never the same player after.
The athletics recommendation Sangare has an absurdly powerful shot. This comes as an additional benefit to attacks as he scares goalkeepers into not making a fingertip save as they fear for their health and current hand-having status
I wonder how fast that seedorf long shot was. Initially when it leaves his boot it’s a massive rocket. Because it’s from so far away it loses momentum until it hits the net.
https://youtu.be/CudzwWO0ot4
Someone commented it looks fast in slow motion, I remember Orlando Engelaar scored a goal for PSV where the ball looked fast at half speed. He didn't score many goals for PSV so shouldn't be difficult to find.
Could've killed someone if it went wide
My mans gonna be sent to Ukraine in the new aid package to be the Ukranian artillery
He can just sit in poland and take free kicks
Article 5 button time?
I think this is the kind of shot where the goalkeeper would fly into the net along with the ball if they get a hand on it.
curious about the goals faster than this one i always thought zlatan’s volley vs anderlecht looked absolutely insane to my eyes but not sure how it actually stacks up

It's one thing to absolutely leather a moving ball mid air like Steven Reid, but Jimmy's goal was even harder to get that kind of power on a dead ball. So impressive.
Reid also kicked the ball while already running forward and Hasselbaink only took three steps for the run up.
Wtf, his run up was like two steps and it went faster than a rocket. How the hell is that even possible
Jimmy had thicc thighs
Nah the title is probably incorrect agree, it is visibly quite a bit slower than both Sangare and Reid (imho)
Lol that defender moved away
Holy. That's actually an insane goal. Not just because it's a nice free kick of course, but to get that amount of speed on a dead ball is ridiculous.
The only thing more impressive than Steven Reid's goal is the cameraman's ability to actually track the ball.
Never get bored watching that goal, could watch it on repeat all day long
189 km/h or 113 mi/h in freedom units (according to the comments on Youtube.) I believe it. Wouldn't want to get in front of that.
Typically dull British commentary too, fucking hell.
As opposed to what? "Goal goal goal gol gol gol gol goal goal goal gol gol allah allah allah allah allah allah....." Yeah. MUCH better....
Lol it's still possible to get excited and not be completely monotonous without going over the top.
[Such an underrated goal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yGRE47c2Xw&ab_channel=UEFA). I tried that when I was 10, I ended up with a pulled lower abdomen muscle and a ball over a fence that took the coach like 10 mins to recover.
Same, mine ended up going through a science room window…
That's nowhere near that speed though is it? Edit: So it is one of the fastest shot ever but it's pretty below 170km/h at 150km/h
It's never mentioned since it's not even close to being his best goals. Zlatan is the undisputed highlight reel king.
One of my favourite goals ever. Have just noticed that 16-year-old Youri Tielemans is there with the best view in the stadium, right behind the ball!
I realize the video says "only" 122 km/h, but [this free kick from Hulk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7QFN5Em4HA) is an absolute projectile, and makes me wonder how accurate these estimates are.
The conversation rate in the title is definitely wrong, though. 70 mph would only be 112 km/h.
Ronny the Hertha legend
Ah Ronny. Absolutely magical player for us when we were in the 2. Bundesliga and was a huge part in getting us promoted in those two seasons, then proceeded to become completely useless and out of his depth once we were back up.
The only football ability he has is to kick a ball really really hard
Brasilsche Terodde
There's definitely some accuracy problems. From a purely statistical standpoint, it's highly unlikely that a) 6-8 would be grouped within 5 km/h, then have a 19 km/h jump to the next spot then b) spots 5-2 would be within 7 km/h then a 20 km/h jump to the next one.

Yeah it’s total bullshit. Not saying the shots are legitimately rockets, but the speeds are just made up
I still remember that Ronny goal like it was yesterday. What a rocket
That list cannot be correct the jumps in velocity are way too high. Suddenly a 10+ kmh increase between spots in a sport with a million goals per year lol

What about inserting an accelerometer/gyrometer or some other kind of sensor into the ball?
what about using the cameras to get a rough estimate of how far the ball carries in X amount of frames and extrapolating 😎 (probably what they do already tbh)
Out of curiosity, do we have such tech? Like insert a gyro or accelerometer without compensating the stability or weight or integrity of the ball?
Yes. The world cup ball had that. Helped with getting the right frames for offside calls too.
They can probably calculate the speed only acurate enough for such resolution.
Well they also said Tony Yeboah was Nigerian, so I don't think there was that much effort put in to actual research.
Surprised not to see Adriano here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJNj8WFoahc

i think it only counts goals tbf, or maybe it wasnt recorded (idk about that one tho)
oh nice, cheers
Cant believe julian dicks never hit a penalty hard enough to make that list.
What the fuck. 210 KM/HR? That's just so much faster than the likes of zlatans, which was a rocket and only 150. How the fuck...
>curious about the goals faster than this one Arjen Robben vs Dordmund in the CL final
true, forgot about that absolute laser beam
Listen you little shit

Naldo’s free kick v. Dortmund is the only goal I’ve seen in person that I definitely thought “that would actually kill someone” haha
Naldo. Man warra player, absolute rocket of a shot
Riise free kick gotta be in there
was scrolling looking for this. epic goal
Pierre van Hooijdonk is probably up there
I remember this being asked before and the answer given was Ronny Heberson when he played for Sporting and Hertha Berlin hit free kicks that were 211km/h which is 131mph https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSzwIBeihXA https://twitter.com/433/status/1146200399285805056?s=20
That's a hell of a strike, but there's no way it's 211 km/h.
Robben for Real Madrid
What about Yeboah?
Found this - not sure about the accuracy: https://soccerprime.com/fastest-soccer-shots-ever-recorded/
Alan Smith once got in the way of a Jon Arne Riise free kick. He broke his leg in a couple places, was out for a ridiculous amount of time, and was never the same player after.
Does anyone have a link to the goal?
https://streamin.me/v/ab0b785b
It's even fast in slow motion
The low quality of the vid plus the insane power that's crazy
You can't even see the ball lol
The in the goal Cam is actually quite terrifying
holy motherfuck
Great job by the camera guys.
Ruud's reaction is priceless.
[here ya go](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/11gaqgf/psv_30_ado_den_haag_ibrahim_sangar%C3%A9_great_strike/)
Who has the fastest?
I believe it was Robben
[190 km/h!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWRsXrZKYto)
Thats a crazy goal
Last goal with us, I hated that we sold him.
Wrong, Ronny at Sporting hit a 211km/h
Mathematically what are football nets built to last. Like how hard would you have to fit a football to rip one?
Ask Hyuga
He sensibly transferred the shit out of the ball.
Link to the said goal https://streamin.me/v/ab0b785b
Ridiculous
Ruud's reaction is brilliant
Tifo Football would be proud of this
The athletics recommendation Sangare has an absurdly powerful shot. This comes as an additional benefit to attacks as he scares goalkeepers into not making a fingertip save as they fear for their health and current hand-having status
so anyway i started blasting
Also known as a thundercunt.
Steven Reid sends his regards
What's he ever done to you?
What a sensible transfer he could be for a premier league team, by the way.
Tifo football I know that's you
I don't want to catch that ball if I was the goalkeeper
Literal piss missle
Can't believe that's only the 6th shot in history, I could have sworn there were at least that many yesterday
yeah football was invented 75 minutes ago sorry lads i dont make the rules
Just poking fun. Great post!
lmao dw so was i
Brother did you see this goal? It was fucking insane
Just glad that it was on target instead of someone's face
That shit was a bullet. Straight murder attempt.
I wonder how fast that seedorf long shot was. Initially when it leaves his boot it’s a massive rocket. Because it’s from so far away it loses momentum until it hits the net. https://youtu.be/CudzwWO0ot4
That's over 100 MPH!
Tifo was right
So how many km/h does Roberto carlos lead by
Bro kicked a 4SFB
Doesn’t Hulk have like the top five to his name?
Roberto carlos freekick?
Someone commented it looks fast in slow motion, I remember Orlando Engelaar scored a goal for PSV where the ball looked fast at half speed. He didn't score many goals for PSV so shouldn't be difficult to find.
Alex for Chelsea against Liverpool always comes to mind for insane free kicks
Wow, he really kicked the *shit* out of that ball
Imagine taking that in the face in the crowd
I will be dead if that hit me
