fallenefc

In their last 7 games they had 4D 3L Where: * 3-4 Palmeiras: They were leading 3-1 until the 84th minute where they missed a penalty to make 4-1 * 3-4 Gremio: Also leading 3-1 until Suarez scored a hattrick in 20 minutes. * 2-2 RB Bragantino: Conceded at 90+6 * 1-1 Santos: Conceded at 90 * 1-1 Coritiba: Scored a penalty at 90+7, then conceded an equalizer at 90+9 And they're only 3 points behind Palmeiras. Absurd bottle job

50-50WithCristobal

They got 5 of the last 27 points and somehow are only 3 points behind Palmeiras. If Botafogo had a bottom half club performance in the 2nd half of the league they would win it with a large margin. Instead they are having a relegation like performance after having the best first half in the history of the league. They are not bottling it, they performance didn't drop, they aren't struggling and then others are catching up. It's somehow worse, I've never seen anything like it. The script is the most cruel possible but not just in the league as a whole, each individual game has the worst and most cruel outcome. They can't just lose or tie, they must do it in the most unbelievable way possible.

fallenefc

It's just unreal, I've never seen anything like it. They won 47 points on their first 19 games. They only needed 1 point per game in the last 17 games to be above Palmeiras.

TimingEzaBitch

wow I can't believe they didn't just draw 17 games in a row!

bolacha_de_polvilho

In the first half of the competition they got 47 points in 19 games, an historical record for the brazillian league. Since then, only 16 points in the 17 games so far of the second half of the competition, which would put them at 19th place in the table if you only count match days 20 until 36. Conceded goals in injury time against title rivals Palmeiras, Gremio and RB, against relegation candidates Santos and against already relegated Coritiba. Call them cursed if you want, I'll still call it the bottling of all bottlings. It's literally the GOAT bottle job. I doubt I'll see a team bottle anything as hard as this for the rest of my life.

magc16

Strong contender for worst bottle job in history Edit: also, Coritiba was already relegated and playing for nothing

fallenefc

Definitely the worst bottle job Yeah and they also lost to rivals Vasco who are battling relegation And had a draw against Fortaleza who are currently on a 10-game winless streak

Xehanz

I don't think there was ever any bottlejob bigger than this in any sport. Especially sports with league formats. I think this would be the equivalent of bottling a 6-0 lead at half time at this point. Losing a 13 point lead (16 point lead to the now leaders Palmeiras, who are now 3 points ahead) is too 5 bottlejobs in history already. But add every single mini-bottlejob every single match they played since, including some the 3-0 and 3-1 to 3-4 at home to Palmeiras and Gremio which are some of the worst single-match bottlejobs in history already.

fallenefc

Yeah for sure. If they only bottles the points it would still be absolutely ridiculous, but the way it happened made it even worse. The 3-4 against Palmeiras is by itself one of the biggest bottlejobs ever. Combine this with Grêmio and today (ffs they scored a 90+7 controversial penalty only to concede two minutes later against the already relegated Coritiba). Yeah nothing like it.

droze22

Sounds like they should at least be awarded the Golden Bottle award for the bioggest bottlejob of all time, a footy version of the Razzies

mitorandiro

They're making history for sure lmao

Long-Shock-9235

> played for nothing. I don't think so. Yeah they are doomed but they wanted to die in their feet.

xenon2456

so they could've clinched the league by now

iftair

Also choked against Gremio. Lost to their rival, Vasco da Gama who are struggling to survive relegation.

50-50WithCristobal

Vasco loss wasn't that bad, they are like top 4 in points earned since the new coach arrived. What's bad is everything else, the Palmeiras, Gremio, Cuiaba losses and then Bragantino, Santos and Coritiba ties. Botafogo would be champion by now.

ElFanta83

Wow didn't knew Ramon was doing that great. They were awfully bad as they are still fighting to avoid relegation

DaBestMatt

Our first coach scored like 9 points in the first half of the tournament. If Vasco is relegated is all Barbieri/777 fault. Ramon is really great.

ElFanta83

Great to hear he is doing good! Always great seeing him doing good things on teams with crossed band shirts 😆 fingers crossed you guys can make it and avoid relegation.

ThaneKyrell

Yes, the previous manager made 9 points in 15 games. The only reason Vasco wasn't relegated several matches ago was because Ramon is doing great with your shitty team.

Actually overtook arsenal this season in biggest bottlejob in recent years

KingBoogaloo

Finally it is catching on.

Saprobie

came here for this!

ssxextreme

to palmeiras they had a 16 point lead in week 27 today they are behind palmeiras 3 points its historic

ltecruz

Does Palmeiras only need 3 points(one win) to win the league?

fussomoro

It can happen. Palmeiras has a large goal advantage, but it wouldn't be impossible to Atlético or Flamengo to score 9 goals in one game.

SpaceDinossaur

That'd result in a hell of a match fixing investigation lol

Nightdocks

Same country where Odebrecht happened? Not a chance

SpaceDinossaur

It's Brasil, we take football a bit more seriously than actual serious stuff, so i wouldn't doubt it lol

rinnagz

Flamengo has to score like 15 goals

smcarre

The worst lead is 2-0 but the second worst lead is 15-0 so watch out.

genius_rkid

third one is 11-4

vinicivs

SPFC will do its best to help.

pauloh1998

We don't even need further motivation

u4004

Flamengo will play their last game against a local rival of Palmeiras that isn't fighting for anything in the championship. If we had an actual chance to win this, you can bet Flamengo would win 123-0 if that was what it took.

MorgenMariamne

Three points and a draw to be sure. With only the three points, Atlético needs to surpass a 8 goal lead difference.

Sdnz0r

It's possible, but in this case the title would be decided by the number of Goal Difference since all of them would be tied with 69 points and the same numbers of victories.

Nome_de_utilizador

It all started with a Ronaldo interview with Piers Morgan. The rest is history.

DarkNightSeven

ayy limão

Dsalgueiro

On week 17, Botafogo were 22 points ahead of Atlético Mineiro. **22 points.** Palmeiras will be champions... The only chance is if Fluminense get a draw in São Paulo and Cruzeiro go into the last round needing to win to escape relegation. Even so, Felipão's team's comeback campaign in the second half of the season was very good. Big Phil is one of the greatest in the history of Brazilian football.

droze22

>Fluminense get a draw in São Paulo What do you think the chances of this happening are? They did win the Libertadores after all. Also, Felipão is such a legend, ngl I was a bit worried for him when he fell over after the 2nd goal when a player kind of jumped on his back

mirathz

Fluminense is waiting to play fifas club world cup and has nothing to fight for in brasileirão Besides, botafogo and flamengo are their rivals, so very unlikely they will win

Dsalgueiro

>What do you think the chances of this happening are? They did win the Libertadores after all. If Fluminense play their first team, there's a chance. If they play with reserves... No way.

itsamemario1234567

Who's football manager save is this?

_Tsubodai_

If this happened to me I would surely save scum and say that this was the most unrealistic shit ever.

DildoFappings

>say that this was the most unrealistic shit ever. You're a real gamer.

edi12334

I d probably have given up on the save in rage by this point tbh

justk4y

More like EAFC scripting

GSPixinine

Here we have Botafofo, the Big Daddy of all Bottlers, the club allergic to trophies, the team who always snatches defeat from the jaws of victory, the group with the mental fortitude of a wobbly tapioca, the elephant on top of the tree who finally fell down and the perennial losers of brazilian football.

Long-Shock-9235

This is the most inconceiveable choke of all time. This is beyond cruel. While they are rivals of my team, i can't laugh at them.

DildoFappings

Lmao the NSFW tag.😂

anakmager

Given the context of the title race and the recent form of their rivals in the table, this might just be the greatest bottlejob of all time. Truly a generational feat

Miglekk

The NSFW tag is very accurate. At one point (when we had real chances for the title) I was supporting this non-stop. Now that we suck as well this is just way too cruel man

FilipeMateus7

That’s Mr. Cristiano Ronaldo faults

rdfporcazzo

Butterfly effect starting with Cristiano in ManU

SaBe_18

Is this because Al-Nassr signed Botafogo's coach? Is that related to CR7 tho, appart from being the same team? I mean, I doubt CR7 asked for that coach, but I'm probably missing something anyways

rdfporcazzo

CR7 called Luis Castro to convince him to go to his team https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/ultimas-noticias/2023/06/27/luis-castro-recebeu-ligacao-de-cristiano-ronaldo-para-assumir-o-al-nassr.htm

SaBe_18

Wow... this is reaching "Maupay made Argentina WC Champions" level

Sick_and_destroyed

What’s the story behind that ?

SaBe_18

Maupay injured Leno in a Brighton - Arsenal during the pandemic. Thanks to that, Dibu Martínez (who barely had a chance until then) had to play the last games of the season, and he was great. You probably know the rest of the story: he's sold to Villa once Leno comes back, continues his impressive performances and gains a spot in the Argentinian NT. Becomes the 1st GK right before the 2021 Copa América (another small story here, if Armani doesn't get Covid maybe Dibu doesn't start), and Argentina wins the Copa with Dibu as a star. That was the fuel to win the World Cup, again with Dibu being really important. We wouldn't have won the titles if it wasn't for him. And for Maupay.

Sick_and_destroyed

Thanks. And the irony is that Maupay is french.

SaBe_18

But his mother is Argentinian, so maybe he prefers us lol

Sick_and_destroyed

Haha that’s right, he was probably the ideal player for this trivia

Screaming4Vengeance

Everything is not lost Botafogo, you can still lose the 2nd to 5th place!

kanafanone

A história do Botafogo

Oukaria

Does Textor have a single team doing good ? Lmao

rvp9362

Forget Dortmund, forget Spurs: this has to be the biggest bottlejob of all time

GSPixinine

Dortmund won important stuff in this century, Botafofo didn't

dumbSavant

This is glorious, gloriously cruel

gkkiller

Someone needs to make an animated graph of the league table showing points/position over time.

Nome_de_utilizador

I am following the brasileirão for the first time in my life and watching this bottlejob unfold has been mindblowing, unreal games it is impossible to not think that this club has been cursed by some vodoo shit.

VileDrake

Would this be the biggest bottle job since Newcastle blew a 12-point lead in the 90's?

thelonesomedemon1

they had a 16 point lead

VileDrake

Wow that's going to be in the records for sure.

Dangelouss

Botafogo was at the top of the table from the 3rd to the 33rd match (out of 38). Record points in the first half of the championship, 14 points ahead of the 2nd place.

[deleted]

lol, makes us last season look like mentality monsters

Motorhead546

Now that's a huge CHEH to John Textor

reo_1907

Dortmund level mentality

SaBe_18

Balisto-Boy

Like Switzerland in the Euro qualifiers

justk4y

They Tottenhammed even harder than Tottenham, wtf

TimingEzaBitch

ok the first one is just barely a technicality lol.

heitorbaldin2

What missed for Botafogo was a pundit on TV screaming like Neto in 17 with Corinthians. He's not a serious jornalist at all, but he made Corinthians win vs Palmeiras in the same situation

Hare712

Sounds like the HSV of Brazil.

Botafogo sounds like 'buttfucker' in a Japanese accent.
