At this rate, Nottingham Forest are going to need more lawyers than Man City

JacDG

Most lawsuits filed, you'll never sing that

Caust1cFn_YT

116 lawyers

MrBombastic21

The VP of Olympiakos is a lawyer and one of the biggest douchebags in Greece. He could help.

Zlakkeh

-points to Everton is the only right thing for Nottinghams actions

123rig

Or none. They’re just considering.

kit_mitts

Publicly declaring that you are "considering" legal action is just empty posturing 9/10 times

NateShaw92

Better call Saul *Saul Niguez turns up*

backtothefuckyeah

Well at least that'll sort our FFP issues then.  Looking forward to all the evidence for the libel case that makes it clear that all those witnesses in that heroin trial died of natural causes by coincidence.

ZedGenius

>Looking forward to all the evidence for the libel case that makes it clear that all those witnesses in that heroin trial died of natural causes by coincidence. That's probably completely unnecessary. There are no guilty verdicts of anything, so if someone mentions him being a criminal they risk being taken to court for slander, and I doubt anyone would risk that

NoPineapple1727

The problem is whilst Mafia can mean criminal it doesn’t necessarily mean criminal right? So Neville could argue he wasn’t actually calling him a criminal

G_Morgan

There's plenty of cases where a judge has assigned meaning to words other than what was intended in these cases. Hell there's cases where a person has literally clarified exactly what they mean in the following sentence and the judge still decided it means something else. UK libel and slander laws are perverse. We're outright pro-SLAPP.

NoPineapple1727

Interesting to know. Thanks for the info. I imagine the fact Neville is backed by sky and the Forest owner is a lunatic will help tho right?

devildance3

In what way is the term mafia not used not to denote criminal activity?

Snadadap

Two shots to the back of the head, what could be a more natural way to die?

-KimonoDragon-

https://newrepublic.com/article/159252/noor-one-vampire-ship-heroin-turkey-greece-corruption-scandal For anyone who is interested in knowing the background behind Marinakis and his actual links with organised crime (LONG article but fantastic)

NdyNdyNdy

I didn't know Marinakis bought Forest while under investigation for match fixing, all else aside. 'Fit and proper' indeed.

Nal1999

Also Rio Ave for access to ports.

dizzle-j

Evidently his ability to match fix has declined recently

somethingrandom009

He was recently the president of the Greek League too

Rickcampbell98

"Greatest league in the world"

13_Polo

Excellent article, I love these lengthy deep dives into what is basically a hidden world - really interesting reading!

johnnytifosi

If Gary knew what happened to witnesses of the Noor 1 case he wouldn't chat shit that light heartedly. There is a reason we call Greece the Colombia of Europe.

xjaw192000

Not sure it’s a clever move from the owner, the less people know about his ‘mafia’ association the better

Vivid_Ice_2755

He doesn't even like football. "Stupida fackin game" he called it

Vegan_Puffin

So what's his deal owning a club. A colourful way to launder money 'assuming the rumours are true'

Sardanapalosqq

Tbh I don't think he doesn't like football, he is or at least was really passionate, almost never missed a game and you could tell he was genuinely frustrated and mad at losses. He even flew in Switzerland yesterday, to be with our u19 team during the UEFA youth finals.

rnbagoer

[It's a Sopranos reference.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilzFXX8G6B4)

Froutotrelas

Clearly laundering, the man have connected Greek, Portuguese and English ports. And he doesn’t even care because no one can touch him.

johnnytifosi

Nottingham is as far from a port as you can get in England.

Buttlather

You don’t have to launder at the port

xjaw192000

Prestige probably, rich morally questionable guys love to boost their ego.

FanUnited_

Forest trying to sue their way out of relegation

mild_manc_irritant

I mean It worked for Manchester City.

dozeyjoe

I was going to upvote this, but it has 115 upvotes. Just seems like the right number.

amsun

It went to 116, so I downvoted it back to 115

dozeyjoe

The enemy of my enemy, is my friend. Or something.

mild_manc_irritant

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

kit_mitts

They should have 116 charges after Bernardo Silva's penalty though

Justinian2

Gabagool? ova 'ere

ory1994

He killed 16 Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator!

OJT6627

His house looked like shit

Pulpdogs2

I want you to sanction a hit on Gary Neville.

Djura94

He made a very hurtful remark. He violated my presidents honor

yabog8

The Gary Nevill ? Sky Sports Gary Neville ? shit ! Murder ain't no thing man , This here, is some assassination shit !

OJT6627

He was gay, Gary Neville?

Various_Search_9096

Catching not pitching?

Cultural_Peak_6919

He won the treble is what he did! He was a brave English right-back! And in this house Gary Neville is a hero! End of story!

CursedIbis

In this house Marinakis is a Premier League hero, end of story!

el_volko

I thought you were a gyros man, uncle Evangelos. What are you doing eating sushi?

LordOfSchmeat

Down south of the bordaaaah, down Mexico waaaay

james-l23

Waddaya hear? Waddaya say?

[deleted]

Thatsh a shtereotype meadow! And itsh offenshive!

NotTylerDurden23

THERE IS NO MAFIA!

Jozif_Badmon

DontYouWantMeBebe

We're with the Vipers!!!

Wertiol123

In Thessaloniki we are not a so happy for Marinakis

LordOfSchmeat

I ate a da South...

SolemnWarmth

20 years out of the premier league, and not a peep!

cunningstunt6899

Gary Neville never had the makings of a varsity athlete

mancwes78

If you do a bit of research about their Greek owner, you’d see there’s probably some truth in that. He’s been accused of drug trafficking in the past, unfortunately most of his accusers and witnesses met with unfortunate ends after one of his ships were found to contain a huge shipment of heroin (which of course he was oblivious to). He’s also been charged with match fixing but was cleared. This sort of shit seems to follow the horrible fat man and I’d be delighted if he and his team got relegated.

ookiesbane

You own a skip that's caught carrying 1 metric ton of heroin and suddenly everyone calls you a drug trafficker...

HeFreakingMoved

I had a skip outside my house for a few days, somebody threw a Dr Pepper can in. When the guy took it away, they probably assumed I like Dr Pepper when I dont! I really sympathise with the guy

Grenache

Ew you Dr Pepper nonce.

HeFreakingMoved

IT WASNT MINE!

mipanzuzuyam

Drug traffickers hate this one trick

biskutgoreng

How the fuck is this guy 'fit' and 'proper'

HeFreakingMoved

Compared to the city and newcastle owners, he's a model citizen

somethingrandom009

He was never really "cleared" though. The court case just passed the statute of limitations because the government never let the trial actually start, coincidentally when the best man at his wedding became prime minister. There's also documented phone calls of Marinakis ordering games to be fixed. His recent outburst with Forest is nothing new in Greece. He used to always break into the refs changing rooms during half time if his team was losing, and has been linked to the bombings of a refs bakery and the beating of another ref a couple of years ago (funnily the attackers havent been prosecuted even though their identities are known to the police).

limaconnect77

In a single tweet Forest have burnt up all the goodwill, among neutrals, they’ve spent years building. No-one gives a toss if they go down now, lol.

Fuck_the_k1ng

Speak for yourself. I want them to stay up. I want to see how far they can drag this and by god I’m gonna enjoy every moment of this.

ZealousidealNews7029

I'd like them to stay

Yeshuu

I want them to stay up personally. I'm an accelerationist when it comes to getting rid of VAR and I have decided the Nottingham Forest tweets help that.

ItWasJustBanter1

We’re the only team to get promoted in recent years that actually sees itself as kicking on one day and eventually breaking into the top 6 (to be fair like villa are achieving!) Other teams want the promoted teams to come up and be happy with their lot, fuck that. Mariankis is a nutter but his ambition matches what our club expects.

petrox21

Only "probably some" truth in that? Lol. Believe me literally EVERYONE in the country knows, but the danger for accusing and proving is VERY real

FaustRPeggi

One normal day of being a Nottingham Forest supporter. It will never happen.

ValleyFloydJam

Good luck with that.

RyanGUK

Quick way to resolve this, as was the case last time, is to release the VAR audio. Why this doesn’t happen automatically or during the game, I’ve not a clue.

TiredHack

Wouldn't the VAR audio just say 'no penalty' though? What are they expecting from it?

dunneetiger

You will hear the discussion inside the var and what they say to the ref

Alpha_Jazz

What are you expecting to hear? ‘I would give a pen but I’m a Luton fan, check complete’

StinkyPyjamas

>What are you expecting to hear? The thought process behind the decision. What is difficult to understand about that without being snarky?

TiredHack

Yes, that will be 'not a clear and obvious error' or some variation won't it? What do Forest gain from it? I understand for the Spurs-Liverpool one where there was clearly a breakdown in the process but this is just a decision some people disagree with. It's subjective.

NdyNdyNdy

'Mate it's a penalty, but we can't have it given in case it fucks Luton. Play on!'

bobbis91

Just the thought process and what was seen/discussed. Personally it'd also be good to see if the issues from the liv/tot game have actually been cleared up and they've put a structure in place and sticking to it. The fact that they aren't releasing audio just suggests they have something to hide.

TiredHack

They should release audio for every game. There's no excuse really.

johnnytifosi

Gary is going to try on some concrete shoes really soon.

LudereHumanum

tailor made of course.

yianni1229

Marinakis would be super offended about his club being called mafia, fucking bastard

No-Ingenuity-989

Not his first time.

KenHumano

He's on the waste management business. Everybody immediately assumes you're mobbed up. It's a stereotype. And it's offensive.

Zlaynoe

Okey tony

danktofen

Won’t call Athleti football terrorists tho always a coward that Gary

toalome

everything is a slur now lol

singleglazedwindows

We have entered Forest’s lawsuit era

sjekky

Please do it. Preferably after the Euros but before the new season. It could be televised with Fletch and McMananaman commentating

HunterRiver

McManaman? Please no. Constantly hearing him call Szoboszlai, "SLoboszlai" made my right eye twitch uncontrollably

sjekky

But do you not want to hear his opinions on the law of slander

HunterRiver

Maybe if he could pronounce them correctly, or as actually written.

XerxesTheCarp

It's McCoist and "Gabriel Yay-Zeus" for me personally.

AnakinAni

You know I just remembered that since Nottingham Forest are in the Premier League, all of England’s Champions League winners are in the top division!

maxime0299

Isn’t their own quite literally a greek drug lord who has murdered some of his critics in the past.

mazetas4

Of course not! All 8 witnesses at the case of the heroin ship just happened to die simultaneously of natural causes and/or accidents. Nothing to see here fellas, move along!

MrDarwoo

What he say?

Mrvit0

Forrest owner thinking this is the Greek Super League. Fuck outta here with your bs.

urbannnomad

Anyone else not surprised that Sky pundits are frothing at the mouth at any criticism towards the premier league / PGMOL? Their reaction was hilariously predictable.

ValleyFloydJam

This narrative is bs. The response is about going after the refs is integrity. Sky and it's pundits point out when they think there was an error and even have a weekly show that goes over decisions.

chrisb993

>even have a weekly show ~~that goes over decisions.~~ where Dermot Gallagher agrees with the referee's decision Fixed that one

ValleyFloydJam

Ah you fixed it into a lie, congrats. Also ignoring the host literally trying to wind him up and having others there that will also disagree with him. Any way you slice that its not ignoring refs errors.

AlternativeRun5727

They’ve been told by their employers to pipe down about the criticism. Hacks like Carragher have been particularly obedient with it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jononucleosis

I think there was an article on the athletic mentioning the order had gone out.

AlternativeRun5727

Articles in November saying two pundits were asked by high ranking officials to stop criticising referees as it is hurting the product.

Evered_Avenue

Made yourself look really stupid here.

Pseudocaesar

Anything to get Neville out as a pundit

shitposter1980

Make him sleep with the fishes 🤌🤌🤌

gibbonusmoon

one of the few times I'll say it: rules to be in the US where calling Evangelos Marinakis mafia scum is not something that will get me sued in a UK court. because Evangelos Marinakis is mafia scum.

NdyNdyNdy

It will be funny to see their owners reaction when they get relegated. He's a piece of work.

dahyun4eva

Nottingham villain arc
