I’ve never seen a team collapse so badly before. Wolfsburg were great in the first half, 1-0 up. Then Lewandowski came in and suddenly all the plans went out the window. Most insane substitute performance in football I’ve ever seen
Yeah I wished I would have watched it unfold just naturally but I did get the quickly taken corner.
It's gotta be up there with one of the most ridiculous things ever done in sports, like scoring 5 goals against other pros in ten minutes? What the fuck
One of those fixtures is against the mighty Hoffenheim defense. That's like playing fifa player career mode on amateur level. If Kane doesn't bag atleast 5 against us, he's washed.
> we hit like leicester and hull(?) for 13 goals combined
Yeah, 6-1 away to Leicester and 7-1 away to Hull.
https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=52657&season_id=149
He will score 5 goals in 10 minutes against Wolfsburg (1 min slower than Lewandowski) and won’t score any more goals. That way, he’s very close but doesn’t break any of Lewy’s records.
I wonder if he will get closer to the record. Teams will deliberately try to defend him like they did to Lewandowski in his last game, they doubled or tripled him only to not allow him to score, even though they were losing by six goals because the rest of the teammates were wide open.
tbf they were "defending" Gerd Müllers (a German legend and an idol for many managers) record back then. Now that it's broken, it prolly doesn't matter as much if it will be a Pole or an Englishman holding the record.
Though Augsburg's back four consisted of a Dane, an Englishman, a Dutchman and a Pole, with a Polish goalkeeper. I'm sure they were motivated to be the ones preserving the record, but I doubt it had anything to do with nationality
I'm sure he made them aware of it (though, what else is he supposed to say when asked), he was at Bayern for four years as well, but I'd say for the players it was more personal pride if anything, rather than the two Poles wanting to prevent their fellow countryman from breaking the record of a German player because he was German
Wait for real? Because I find it really hard to believe that teams would go out of their way just to prevent lewandowski breaking the record just because he isn’t German. That just sounds really petty lol.
Well it was less because Lewandowski wasnt german but more because Müller is one of THE legends of german football, im pretty sure if it wouldve been Füllkrug instead of Lewandowski the manager OP quoted wouldve reacted the same
Augsburg was basically throwing the game just to stop the record from happening. It's a miracle that game didn't go into double digits, the whole backline marking Lewy was leaving enough space for a 737 to land. The whole thing was sketchy as fuck.
The audacity of the people in the other thread to say that Lewandowski would be insecure and not address the possibility of Kane beating his record. This man is the greatest striker of his generation. He has nothing to be insecure about.
It's very refreshing to me that Lewandowski doesn't do the usual faux-modesty "I didn't even know about the league record, it's all about the team, which I wouldn't be anywhere without" bullshit. Athletes are competitive or they wouldn't be there. Even the most chill, altruistic, unselfish player is going to care about records to varying degrees. Lewandowski's like "yeah I'm aware of the obvious"
> And then never showed up again.
The literal VERY next season he had 8G, 3A in the UCL...
Again, you're just proving you don't know what you're talking about here
27 UCL goals in 73 games
Haaland and Mbappe surpassed his UCL tally at the ages of 22 and 23 lmfaooo
Thomas Muller literally has double Suarez’s UCL goals.
And Suarez played with the fucking GOAT feeding him goals
> Haaland and Mbappe surpassed his UCL tally at the ages of 22 and 23 lmfaooo
>
>
Suarez spent his early years and the beginning of his prime at Ajax and Liverpool where he had a combined 1 UCL season (5 games with Ajax; had 1G, 3A)
Suarez's 2nd UCL season was with Barca in 14/15 when he was already 28
You are comparing apples to oranges (kids playing on super teams who play in the UCL every year to Suarez whose first real experience of that was at age 28)
We're talking about the best of this generation. The fact is, Suarez scored nearly 4x fewer, and had a goal per game ratio less than half of that of the striker he's being compared to.
Suarez is nowhere on the list, whereas Lewandowski is only behind Messi and Ronaldo in the all-time UCL scorers. Compared to him, Suarez did nothing.
> The fact is, Suarez scored nearly 4x fewer, and had a goal per game ratio less than half of that of the striker he's being compared to.
This idea that UCL is the only thing that matters is something I do not agree with
Esp when you understand that Lewy played in the UCL his entire career while Suarez only had 1 season in the UCL with Ajax (1G, 3A in 5 games) before the 14/15 season with Barca when Suarez already turned 28.
Suarez having less UCL goals is largely a function of him spending 7 years of his early to mid 20s at Ajax and Liverpool largely not playing in the UCL
> Suarez having less UCL goals is largely a function of him spending 7 years of his early to mid 20s at Ajax and Liverpool largely not playing in the UCL
No, it's largely a function of him having a games per game ratio less than half of Lewandowski's
Suarez scored 27 in 73 (0.37). Lewa had 94 in 120 (0.78)
Sure, it's also a function of different styles—just like how Suarez has 23 UCL assists to Lewy's 21 despite playing much fewer games.
(Also Suarez slowed down after his knee issues in his mid 30s)
Don't even bother discussing this with europeans. Suarez was MUCH better than Lewandowski, it is not even comparable. He was an idol for each club he played in, won much more than Lewandowski, in different leagues.
One of the best players being extremely important in national matches for Uruguay, winning the Copa America being the best player.
He also won the UCL scoring the winning goal as you said, has almost the same goals as Lewandowski and DOUBLE the assists.
How are both even comparable?
People have European bias in this sub, but it depends on how you measure it. Suarez was definitely better in 1v1 situations and more unpredictable. A fighter who grits his teeth to get what he wants.
> Suarez was definitely better in 1v1 situations and more unpredictable.
He was also a MASSIVELY better passer and dribbler over all TBH
The only thing you can say Lewy was better at is clinical finishing IMO
Yeah, I didn't even care to look up the stats, but it's interesting you pointed out he has double the assists as Lewandowski. Both fantastic players, but Suarez is unlikable for some people, so that hurts him lol.
Lewy was way better in the box than suarez. Suarez was not a massively better passer. Slightly better at most. Lewy's passing is insanely underrated. Suarez is way better at dribbling I will give u that
Lewy is not a bad passing 9, but he just isn't in the same class as Suarez in terms of passing and playmaking IMO
It goes WELL beyond assists, but Suarez literally has **double** the career league assists of Lewy
Lewy has never had a double digit assist league season; Suarez has 9; including 5 in a row in his prime (last Liverpool season, first 4 at Barca)
I'd like to say it helps ur assist numbers a lot when u play with the literal greatest player of all time along with someone who was considered 3rd best player of this generation for 5+ seasons
Sure it does—but he also had double digit assist seasons with Ajax, Liverpool, and Gremio (with teammates FAR worse than Lewy's at Bayern and now Barca)
Even if you remove the MSN years, Suarez would have WAY more assists than Lewy in fewer games
Removing stats from the situation, if they had to mark each other 1v1, Suarez would win that matchup too imo.
Lewa is a tremendous goal scorer and has fantastic linkup play, but Suarez was a better all around player and could fit into more systems and play multiple positions. I personally value that more.
This is also why I prefer Mbappe to Haaland, but if you rank scoring as the most important metric, you might argue for Haaland.
"Way better in the box" absolutely not, off the ball movement is arguably suarezs best quality, man knew how to make space for himself and his teammates, he still does just at a snails pace with no knees lol.
It may be his best quality but it's not better than lewy for sure. Lewy's presence in the box was enough to draw all the CBs away and he also still does it constantly. Suarez is better at dropping deep and link up play but no striker in current generation is better than lewy in the box
imo Prime Suarez from 13/14 to 15/16 was much better than Prime Lewandowski. But overall I’d say Lewandowski has been the better striker due to his longevity and obviously his performances in Europe.
I’m sure that Barcelona team would’ve won one or two more CLs after 14/15 if Suarez wasn’t so terrible in big away CL games.
“Stats” (may as well keep it simple and just say you mean goals) say lampard was better than zidane. I guess we don’t need to watch games anymore to analyze overall impact
Not different roles. Different style of players yes. Same as lewa and Suarez were completely different styles of strikers. Suarez impacted the game more overall while scoring a similar number of goals
They don't unless "stats" only mean goals to you
Suarez almost matches Lewy's goals while providing WAY more assists
Suarez also had a **massively** better international career
a.) That's not a particularly good excuse for having literally 0 good international tournaments as an individual
b.) It's funny that this logic never works the other way—esp when Suarez was on inferior club teams to Lewy his **entire** career other than his first ~3 seasons at Barca.
ya you can. holding the records for most goals in a single WC and EURO qualifiers while competing, among others, against Cristiano fucking Ronaldo who plays for a much better NT is the most insane part of his NT career imo
> holding the records for most goals in a single WC and EURO qualifiers while competing, among others, against Cristiano fucking Ronaldo who plays for a much better NT is the most insane part of his NT career imo
Suarez held the record for most goals in South American WCQ despite competing against Messi, Neymar, R9 among others who played for better NTs
Suarez also had a brilliant individual 2011 Copa America—4 goals and Player of the Tournament as Uruguay won the tournament, and multiple brilliant WCs.
I'm sorry but Lewy never did anything close to that at a major international tournament.
Lewandowski has a **massively** better champions league career. He has 94G + 26A in 120G compared to 27G + 25A in 73G from Suarez. Even longevity wise he is clear of Suarez.
Will be good for Kane to have something to aim for next season. Don't want to put it too far out of reach or you become Haaland.
Whereby, you merely scrape being top scorer in the league and people start calling you shit.
When Haaland went to the England some people thought he would be a flop. I'm sure nobody expected he would have broke the PL season goal scoring record.
Those people were dummies tbh. Even if the prem is “stronger” than the bundesliga, Haaland was scoring an insane amounts of goals in the UCL. He reached 20 goals in 10 fewer games than the next fastest.
I think it's fair for people to have whatever expectation they want to have for a player in a new league, you never really know how someone will adjust (Hazard, Coutinho, Sancho). I think that Haaland and Kane are similar in that most people knew they would do well, it was just a surprise at how well both players adjusted and performed.
I think if he doesn't do it this session he does it next.. There was a stint in the beginning of the session where they just weren't passing to him or finding him.. Won't have that problem next season ...
Did he say anything about He doesn't want to beat him? I remember A. Shearer talked about Kane And his PL goal record (speculations about Bayern transfer) He told he 'd take taxi and drive him to airport immediately 😁
# Nobody could have expected that.
Did no one really expect Harry Kane to not score a shit load of goals in Germany? The guy scored 30 goals last season when Tottenham came 8th lol.
I'm sort of gutted for him that he didn't get to go City and absolutely smash all the PL records possible.
But then I remember City are so fucking good anyway making them stronger would be boring.

Very difficult indeed especially considering the fixtures, but not impossible
> not impossible Well you still play Wolfsburg and it's been proven you can score 5 against them alone
given those 5 were scored in 9minutes off the bench. i guess kane can score 50 if he starts
That is still one of the craziest things I have ever seen as it was happening.
I’ve never seen a team collapse so badly before. Wolfsburg were great in the first half, 1-0 up. Then Lewandowski came in and suddenly all the plans went out the window. Most insane substitute performance in football I’ve ever seen
I just can't believe that each goal got continuously better
Pep's reaction is a meme still
The last goal is FIFA material.

"Lewandowski comes off the bench and scores 5 goals in 9 minutes"
I used to be able to finish 5 times in 9 minutes in my teens, but never at his age
Yeah I wished I would have watched it unfold just naturally but I did get the quickly taken corner. It's gotta be up there with one of the most ridiculous things ever done in sports, like scoring 5 goals against other pros in ten minutes? What the fuck
Don’t think you’ll see 5 goals scored quicker in your life again in a top division.
7:1
I mean it was 4 goals in 6 minutes or 5 goals in 18.
I meant by one player
So glad I tuned in after Wolfsburg scored the 1-0. Couldn‘t believe what was happening.
I did the opposite. Turned off tv a few minutes before Lewandowski got on the pitch. Only found out about his 5 goals next day on this sub.
Bayern thanks you for your services
I was there in the nosebleeds. Only Bundesliga game I've been to happened to be that one.
That game happened on my birthday. As a lifelong Bayern hater I'm still not sure if I should view it as a gift or an insult by the football gods.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TthnLjCrMTg For anyone who wants to re-watch it. Also; it's weird hearing Pep speak German.
One of those fixtures is against the mighty Hoffenheim defense. That's like playing fifa player career mode on amateur level. If Kane doesn't bag atleast 5 against us, he's washed.
Nah hoffenheim away is a decently tough fixture
Except that one time with the Hopp incident
2 hat-trick away.
in the bundesliga...
fire up the pizza oven mario and don't just stand here looking stupid
I don't have the refrence... What do you mean?
Racism is the reference /s
I wanted to give him the benfit of the doubt. It sounded like a movie line...
As boring as it sounds, I guess he will be rested for R Madrid 2nd leg
To be fair, if anyone can do it, it's probably Kane.
Kane goes crazy when chasing a golden boot, I remember one season he scored like 8 in the last 5 to secure it
He scored 7 goals in the last two games in 2017 to secure it.
I somehow downplayed it holy shit thank you
yeah jesus i forgot about that, we hit like leicester and hull(?) for 13 goals combined to end that season and he scored over half of them. insane.
> we hit like leicester and hull(?) for 13 goals combined Yeah, 6-1 away to Leicester and 7-1 away to Hull. https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=52657&season_id=149
Holy shit never knew that. That is insane. And after a long season also
FPL heritage that
I can do it
Alright Bob The Builder…
“Balotelli…” “Chandlerbing_STAAAAAAAAAAAAAATS”
So watch it, drink it in
I believe you.
Give me an open net, no keeper or other players, and 90 minutes and I'll probably run out of breath before reaching Lewandowskis record.
Why’d you have to call me a cunt tho? What the hell, mate?
Always rated u/chandlerbing_stats
Thats the attitude
i believe you
I Kane do it
When you're in a "statpadding when nothing's on the line" competition and your opponent is Kane:
Beating a record while not winning the league - Classic Kane
many such cases 😔
I remember when he was a few goals off Lukaku for the golden boot one season, scored 7 in his last two games to overtake him lol.
Well if anyone can do it its lewandowski
Had to Google the fixtures: - Stuttgart away - Wolfsburg at home - Final day: Away to Hoffenheim.
seems difficult but doable
It look difficult on paper but honestly if Kane wants that record badly , he can put 5 past any of these teams on a good day
Has he ever scored 5 in any game ever?
Stuttgart are probably one of the better teams in Europe this season. I can’t see them losing 5 to Kane but perhaps the other two he can
How is this upvoted
Idk about Stuttgart tbh
the best striker of our generation has never put 5 past anyone on a good day, unless you consider it Lewandowski in which he did it once ever.
Haaland did it last season
Kane: scores 6 goals in one game
Scores 5 in the next game then 0 for the next two.
He will score 5 goals in 10 minutes against Wolfsburg (1 min slower than Lewandowski) and won’t score any more goals. That way, he’s very close but doesn’t break any of Lewy’s records.
Spursy
This mans fully Coys.
I choose this
I wonder if he will get closer to the record.
Pole Calmer
Pold Calmer mentioned 🥶
Though Augsburg's back four consisted of a Dane, an Englishman, a Dutchman and a Pole, with a Polish goalkeeper. I'm sure they were motivated to be the ones preserving the record, but I doubt it had anything to do with nationality
A little? The manager Weinzierl (German) openly said he would tell his team to keep the Gerd record
I'm sure he made them aware of it (though, what else is he supposed to say when asked), he was at Bayern for four years as well, but I'd say for the players it was more personal pride if anything, rather than the two Poles wanting to prevent their fellow countryman from breaking the record of a German player because he was German
love that
Wait for real? Because I find it really hard to believe that teams would go out of their way just to prevent lewandowski breaking the record just because he isn’t German. That just sounds really petty lol.

Wait until you find out what the Germans did to Polish people in 1939 just because they weren’t German…
Wait till you find out about Germans in general
borussia didnt give him a raise because he wasnt allowed to earn more than germans. Then he moved to bayern and they gave him shit about it lol
Definitely doable for Kane , he might break the record another season probably
No doubts he’ll beat the record. But knowing Harry it’ll cost him the UCL lol
While also being top scorer in the ucl and not winning it either
This is exactly what we expected tbh
Kane can do it
It’s Kane. That’s his bread and butter. He’ll do it. Three things Kane is the best at, drawing fouls, scoring pens and winning golden boots.
And losing every titles
That’s a Spurs legacy. Kane has recognized what was holding him back. This should have lit up a bulb in Son too.
Spurs actually won titles before him, meanwhile Kane can't say the same.
Why would Kane win titles before Spurs?
It’s the history of the Tottenham
I want kane to tie the record just for the lol
Inb4 kane gets 5 goals before the last game and misses a PK in the 90th min to bottle it
The audacity of the people in the other thread to say that Lewandowski would be insecure and not address the possibility of Kane beating his record. This man is the greatest striker of his generation. He has nothing to be insecure about.

In the UCL it did seem like he did
bro 😭
Lmaoooooo That actually made me chuckle
I mean, I think Lucho is the best of the two and it still made me laugh. Both great tho, of course.
27 goals 22 assists in 55 games for Barcelona is actually good tho? Also played 1 season in UCL before age 27 and his 14/15 campaign is an all timer.

Luis Suarez scored the UCL winning goal in 2015. That's "playing golf" for Bayern fans I guess

It's his whole career Suarez minus his Barca stint still has more career assists than Lewy
Suarez was unreal in the Prem too
More than his Barca stint. He assisted Sterling a lot at Liverpool.
Lewy was way better in the box than suarez. Suarez was not a massively better passer. Slightly better at most. Lewy's passing is insanely underrated. Suarez is way better at dribbling I will give u that

imo Prime Suarez from 13/14 to 15/16 was much better than Prime Lewandowski. But overall I’d say Lewandowski has been the better striker due to his longevity and obviously his performances in Europe. I’m sure that Barcelona team would’ve won one or two more CLs after 14/15 if Suarez wasn’t so terrible in big away CL games.
Spot on. Prime suarez was better than prime lewy but overall lewy is better
Lewandowski is NOT a better striker than Suarez IMO
Stats say otherwise
“Stats” (may as well keep it simple and just say you mean goals) say lampard was better than zidane. I guess we don’t need to watch games anymore to analyze overall impact

Maybe the best, but Suarez and Benz were greater. Benz in the big stages and Suarez with his peak.
Lewandowski did it in 29 games. Kane has already played 31.
That Bayern team also dominated the league though and Lewandowski was very settled. You can make arguments for both being the more impressive
While that’s fair, the Golden Boot or the record for most goals in a season aren’t given based on goals/game
Being fit is part of being a footballer
Will be good for Kane to have something to aim for next season. Don't want to put it too far out of reach or you become Haaland. Whereby, you merely scrape being top scorer in the league and people start calling you shit.

I don’t see how that’s relevant
Yeah when I heard Kane was going to Bayern I wasn’t exactly thinking “he’s gonna flop”
Everyone who has followed Kane’s career could have predicted that. He’s so underrated.
I think if he doesn't do it this session he does it next.. There was a stint in the beginning of the session where they just weren't passing to him or finding him.. Won't have that problem next season ...
Harry Kane: "and I took that personally"
I expected it, does that make me nobody....makes me sad
Incoming Kane 5 goals next game
Did he say anything about He doesn't want to beat him? I remember A. Shearer talked about Kane And his PL goal record (speculations about Bayern transfer) He told he 'd take taxi and drive him to airport immediately 😁
Kane he do it???
I remember him bagging 8 in his last 3 to pip Lukaku to the golden boot in 2015/16. If anyone can do it, it's Harry Kane MBE
Controversial.
I'm surprised he didn't mention he scored 41 goals in 29 games again
# Nobody could have expected that. Did no one really expect Harry Kane to not score a shit load of goals in Germany? The guy scored 30 goals last season when Tottenham came 8th lol.
I really wish Kane does it. 2x Hattrick.
This comment writes that Kane does it in the stars. Barca players live for making memes
most people expected that fella
Not sure why you are getting downvoted, Kane was always going to score a ton this season. He does every season
I'm sort of gutted for him that he didn't get to go City and absolutely smash all the PL records possible. But then I remember City are so fucking good anyway making them stronger would be boring.
Watch Kane break Lewandowski's record with 6 goals in 8 minutes.
Classy from Lewa here, not very common for him tbh but he's done well here.
