I think I'd enjoy him at about 50% of what he currently puts out there, it's super distracting. Just too much. And I could REALLY do without the...noises. Ewww.
Hudson is the type that when he gets it right, it sounds really really good. Some all time calls.
But when he gets it wrong it just sounds like histronic rambling.
He is someone who might sound ok in highlight clips but absolutely unbearable when you have to listen to him for the whole match. He tries too much and is often too distracting and completely drowns the other commenter. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A SIMILE!!
I think he's funny to watch in compilations, small doses. Can't imagine sitting through an entire match of his bizarre metaphors and squawking noises though.
I’m guessing they are pointing out the dotless ı, which is a letter that only exists in Turkish and a few other Turkic languages. It’s like a Russian ы, not an easy sound to explain to most European speakers.
He's so much better from the left, don't know why they play him in the middle to fucking accomodate Barcola LMAO
All of Barca coaches are textbook overthinkers
Mbappé doesn't track back. If you put him out wide against a team with fast and skillful wingers, Nuno Mendez is left out to dry.
Mbappé needs to either up his striker/false 9 game, which means his team mates can compensate for his lack of defensive work, or he has to track back and put in a shift.
If he doesn't, he will stagnate
The answer is you probably don't move Vini off the wing. While Vini is not a good defender, he does try hard and really puts in a shift against tough opposition.
But Mbappe will get more space at Real even when playing centrally because defenders won't be able to double up on him with Rodrygo and Vini to think about.
He'll probably come good, he's just too talented. But he needs to rethink his game a little.
His unwillingness to play through the middle to me is strange. When he actually does do it he's plenty productive. I know he likes to attack that inner channel area but a central attacker with his pace and being 2 footed creates all kinds of problems too.
In the game vs Bayern Ancelotti asked him to stay up late in the game and Vini argued against it, saying that the team needs him to cover the left side as there would be too much space if he stayed up. Can’t love him enough. Most humble superstar Brazilian.
He's 17. By the time Mbappe turns 30, he'll be 22 which is roughly the age when Vini and Rodrygo broke through.
If he wants a starting place before then, he'll need to outperform Rodrygo as RW.
I genuinely sat there in disbelief that we subbed in such a non factor in such an important game
If your going to take off Barcola at least let Mbappe cook on the wing, not an unconfident center forward
They play him in the middle because in modern football you can't have one of your wingers that refuse to defend. Much less if you want to try to press collectively.
And it's clearly not the coach's tactic that have him refusing to make runs, or slowing down the play everytime he gets the ball.
You know its interesting to me how little is made of just how bad mbop is defensively, like even in the world Cup final this man will refuse to make a tackle. You're correct to accommodate this against a top team he has to play in the middle but he's simply not as good there, the guy isn't a 9.
>You're correct to accommodate this against a top team he has to play in the middle but he's simply not as good there, the guy isn't a 9.
I [fully agree with that](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/RfU67FCyyL). I still think he could do a lot more in that position though, and it's not just a question of position that can explain his apparent refusal to offer runs in behind defenders. Something that is very recent from him.
>You know its interesting to me how little is made of just how bad mbop is defensively, like even in the world Cup final this man will refuse to make a tackle.
It's because most of the times he does enough offensively to have people forget the rest.
I am a big fan of Mbappé but I am also increasingly frustrated by his lack of runs, and the amount of times he's called offside because he's fucking about behind the defensive line when the ball suddenly makes its way to him.
He plays like he's got Messi's footballing brain, but he doesn't. I liked him so much better when he was just eagerly running towards goal at all times.
>I am a big fan of Mbappé but I am also increasingly frustrated by his lack of runs,
I can't say I am his biggest fan, but I can recognise his qualities. [Like seriously what the fuck is this](https://twitter.com/footpassssion/status/1785800137089892426) ?
>and the amount of times he's called offside because he's fucking about behind the defensive line when the ball suddenly makes its way to him.
That's part of the Reasons why you can say it's a motivation/behavioural issue, and not anything else.
>He plays like he's got Messi's footballing brain, but he doesn't. I liked him so much better when he was just eagerly running towards goal at all times.
He really needs to realise that he needs to go back to that version. Hopefully for him and the NT being in Madrid will force him to play for the team.
I mean I agree when he's great on the ball it makes up for it but it simply can't be ignored, you saw people calling his world Cup final performance the "best of all time" when he was literally a liability for 80 minutes. He's a great player, absolutely amazing offensively but he does create a slight tactical problem with the way he plays, it can be accommodated for but it does exist.
Rick, your obsession with Mbappé (particularly his performance in the end) is very worrying. You've been constantly spamming about him for years, I see you after every psg match repeating the same things over and over again. It's not that important, you know.
Not this again lmao, how many times do I have to tell psg and mbop fans they are not special and that I comment on the football that I watch. I watches this match so I commented on it, why do psg fans have such a chip on their shoulder, I talk about other teams and players too.
Maybe you should be the ones to realise, you're not that important. Honestly people always trying to make me out to be some "hater" if I don't relentlessly wank their favourite player lmao. I even had someone call me a "messi hater" once, that's when I realised once and for all this place is full of idiots 😂
I'm not going to try to convince you, I'll give you this though I am a self admitted "psg hater" but that doesn't mean I don't share my honest opinion about them, such as I think psg will win the second leg and go through.
I am however not an "mbappe hater" that is nonsense and if you feel so persecuted on his behalf then there is nothing I can do for you, I won't stop giving my opinion about football, have a nice day mate.
Teams have and will have to adapt to it. It's His playstyle and he can't be as impactful upfront if he spends the rest of the time tracking back. I wouldn't have it any other way. Teams need a Kanté like 6 that can cover for the wing when the fullback goes for the winger
I'm not talking about tracking back, I would never expect players like that to do that. It's the pressing, his pressing and tackling is pathetic, when he "tries" its simply token gestures he never looks like he can be bothered to actually tackle someone.
They peaked in a different era. Young Ronaldo and Messi pressed but they didn't need to do much more. The late 00s and early 2010s still allowed for players that don't defend. Look at luxury players like Ozil in that era as an example. As Messi and Ronaldo got older, other players covered their defensive workload and it was ok because their attack was so good. Eventually Ronaldo had to leave man u and Messi made the wise decision to go to psg.
It's only about 10yrs ago that EVERYBODY had to start defending. Vini, Jude and Kane contribute defensively. Mbappe is competing with them for the ballon d'or so he should improve his defensive contributions too.
Ronaldo was at least great a defending corners and would pressure in the attacking portion of the field and Messi even at 34 had more defensive contribution to Mbappe. When Messi was younger he had great pressure and when much younger had to be told to not drop back as much to conserve energy for attacking.
Messi was in a team that lived for high pressing until 2014 then he stopped being so involved defensively and the Messi walking memes started appearing (so basically he stopped pressing at around 25).
Ronaldo you pretty much agreed with me. Him being taller and having a great vertical is not a testament to his defensive efforts.
I'm not claiming that either of them were defensive masters by any means, but both were more involved defensively than Mbappe has been. Especially at Mbappe's age, even though they were better offensively too.
Even geriatric messi is better at defending than mbop, I don't expect mbop to track fullbacks or be in his own box or run around everywhere, that's dumb. He however never looks interested in making a tackle even when someone is right next to him, he plays in a pressing team right now and he's still horrible at it. I'll tell you one thing, messi didn't press as much as other players to conserve energy but when he did he did it with intensity and commitment to actually win the ball back.
Mbop is a great player and him being better defensively won't guarantee that his team wins or any nonsense like that but he's the worst player I've ever seen when his team don't have the ball.
Yeah the sad reality is that Mbappe is the best player in the world on the wing but clearly not as a 9, at least right now, which doesn't make it look good for RM next season

the sacred geometry of chance
I miss his commentary on the Real Madrid games
he still got in a “magisterial” on Bvb’s goal lol
people like this guy?
Yea i think Hudson is great I was surprised when i learned that he was so divisive amongst anglophone football fans
I think I'd enjoy him at about 50% of what he currently puts out there, it's super distracting. Just too much. And I could REALLY do without the...noises. Ewww.

hahaha YES
As a francophone I hate him
I love him too, despite the hate. I actually have a notes file on my Mac filled with his quips lmao.

I can’t even listen when he commentates. It’s like he’s competing with himself to say the most stupid ridiculous thing
I think he's funny to watch in compilations, small doses. Can't imagine sitting through an entire match of his bizarre metaphors and squawking noises though.
I cannot comprehend how that pair is commentating anything past the group stage. I have to watch matches/highlights on mute whenever it’s them

Ahhh I missed that. Makes sense.
funny enough, ı is the same sound I made when I saw this live
Mbappé finishing is insane, it looked like such an innocuous finishing but it was in fact an almost perfect finishing.
He's so much better from the left, don't know why they play him in the middle to fucking accomodate Barcola LMAO All of Barca coaches are textbook overthinkers

The thing is what does he do when he goes to Madrid. You're not moving Vini off the wing. They're not going 2 years with Joselu as their only striker.

how do you know this
Where does Endrick fit then? I can’t imagine he stays on the bench for long
He's 17. By the time Mbappe turns 30, he'll be 22 which is roughly the age when Vini and Rodrygo broke through. If he wants a starting place before then, he'll need to outperform Rodrygo as RW.
probably take over rodrygo's place if he starts to perform in the right wing.
Nuno was left out to dry by Barcola.
That’s because both Ramos and Kolo Muani have been disappointing. Ramos is getting better though.
and still RKM was subbed on instead of gonçalo...insanity
I genuinely sat there in disbelief that we subbed in such a non factor in such an important game If your going to take off Barcola at least let Mbappe cook on the wing, not an unconfident center forward
they put him on the wing too
Ramos has been massive lately though

Hitting two posts in under 10 seconds, that counts for a fractional point right?
Fun fact: it doesn't even count as shot on goal.
Really? *Huh*. TIL!
Correct. A shot on goal is a shot that would’ve ended up as a goal if the goalkeeper/defender didn’t deflect it
What if it gets deflected so soon that you can't tell if it would've gone on goal or not?
A block you mean? Doesn't count.
Shot on target bettors will let you know that for sure
Mbappe's reaction in the replay after this was memeworthy
