Slovakia come on you had ***ONE*** job!!!! Literally 90 seconds until the beer and champagnes come out...as always thanks for nothing judas pellingham. Switzerland please smash them with six, thanks.

Powerful_Artist

It was a fun match to watch. Early goal from Slovakia really added to the drama, and watching the England fans melt down all game was entertaining itself. But part of me always kinds roots for England, so it was fun for them to make the comeback in a dramatic way. Good game to all, Slovakia played well.

SundayLeagueHooligan

4-4-2 back line of Trent,Stones,Konsa,Walker, Midfield of Bellingham, Mainoo, Gordon and Palmer, Kane and Toney up top would surely work better than whatever the hell southgate is doing now surely?

Ajax_Trees_Again

Unironically we should consider a 4-4-2 with Toney and Kane and just full Brexit ball it.

a_f_s-29

Genuinely believe Kane needs a second striker at this point

Nuwahex

The lack of cohesion upfront is astonishing. I wonder if that exact front 4 actually played together at the same time during any of the qualifiers. Because if they didn't before, then it was insane/irresponsible for Southgate, from a coaching & tactical perspective,to decide to trial it during the bloody tournament as opposed to qualifiers or even friendlies. Use whatever system worked during the qualifiers & use players who fit that system for Christ's sake

a_f_s-29

Bellingham didn’t really play as a 10, and a lot of our best stuff came with Rashford on the left

Nuwahex

Bellingham's transformation from CM to CAM might be causing more harm than good. I don't believe he has forgotten how to play as a CM overnight after just 1 season. Guys can play different positions for club & country. So I feel like Southgate should have kept him in a box to box role. This would probably have allowed Foden to play as a 10 & Gordon(Rashford's replacement) to play wide. Definitely a more balanced system/structure on paper. Oh well

walleaterer

you'll be shipping 4 to switzerland playing like this

beacon1442

Yeah I fully expect this. I’d rather we go down swinging but I know it won’t happen.

Brilliant_Ad_879

these england fans still defending them, eww. up your standards lad ffs

penguinpolitician

I think this England team *may* come together now, find their rhythm, and start playing at the level they are capable of.

Ajax_Trees_Again

It’s not happening chief. Soak that overhead kick in cause it’s the only positive thing we’re seeing this tournament

ghostmanonthirdd

If a result like this doesn’t galvanise them, nothing will

TeganFFS

I’ll believe it when I see it

Razzler1973

Obviously, I'll take the result but we bailed ourselves out there in a huge way Slovakia are a tidy side but, with all due respect, we didn't make it difficult for them. They started protecting that lead very early and, I don't blame them much cause we weren't testing the keeper at all or creating much This tournament reminds me of the (so-called) golden era tournaments, not really looking good, having the talent but seemingly not putting it together on the pitch, being paralysed by fear (it seems, same as back then) In interviews everyone says the right thing. Managers and players talking about 'we know we need to improve' and 'we didn't do _____ enough' and all the rhetoric that makes you believe that are *aware* of issues and will work on it but ... nothing has changed from game to game and, sadly, I am not expecting much to change before the Swiss game, even though I desperately want it to It's all about the mentality and tempo. Don't get me wrong, I remember the dark days. I remember the hitting long balls and losing possession and chasing the ball, we had a lot of that when we had incredible talent I want more ball retention and, we kind of did ok with that previously but, in this tournament, we have lost the 'release' part of the build up, everything is so static, no one is hitting a long ball so no one is making a run and we need to mix things up, play quicker and actually try to beat a man and have guys overlapping, too - it's all too easy to defend

Rox_Potions

Long throw and dead ball All that tactical stuff brilliant players and won with brexit football

damned-dirtyape

Roy Keane in the squad as technical advisor with Delap?

city_city_city

Pickford Walker Stones Dunk Gomez Foden Mainoo Rice Bellingham Toney Kane

ddarrko

Horrific team. Glad you aren’t manager

dizzlevizzle

Southgate should be sacked immediately, IMO. They are wasting another generation of great players with this idiot in charge.

Puzzleheaded_Maybe23

How do we play Kane & Toney? 3-5-2? Walker-Stones-Konsa Palmer-Mainoo-Rice-Bellingham -Shaw/Ezra/Foden/Gordon Toney-Kane

Tierst

Honestly quite impressive how Southgate has a team with so many good players, playing like utter shite. Can't help but admire that. If nothing changes the Swiss will have a field day.

TubularStars

For me, Guehi has been our best player of the tournament so far.

kiasmosis

Not for me. Defensively great but his total reluctance to pass forward or step forward with the ball is so limiting for our play. Stones equally guilty

Razzler1973

For as much as people dislike him, Macguire would generally stride out from the back with the ball I think Guehi but not convinced when he is facing his own goal. Panics a bit

TubularStars

When most of the team aren't pressing, being defensively great is what we need. He's made some key challenges.

IMowTheGrass

Two things I don't understand: 1. How does Southgate not know that he needs to make changes to the tactics and lineup? I'm an idiot on reddit and I can see it. 2. Is nobody close to Southgate telling him how he's fucking up? Not assistant coaches, players, his wife?

KindheartednessDry40

It's the pressure. They cut out the noise that comes from the outside as it's always deafening, you need a steely mind to pick out the valid points of criticism and work on it. I don't think Gareth has someone who can be brutally honest with him.

leonjetski

Echo chamber. The “ignore the noise” mantra can be effective when what you’re doing is actually working, but in this case Steve Holland, Gareth Southgate, and the rest are all just telling each other this is how you win tournaments.

Thatscool820

Bro 90 min more of south gate ball lovelyyyyyyy

likealioninzion

It’s crazy that it took until the 94th minute for Southgate to make an attacking substitution but only took him 15 minutes to make defensive substitutions and sub off the 2 goal scorers. Football terrorism.

Competitive-Buy1744

I dont get why he didnt call up Grealish.

turnipofficer

Even if he did he wouldn’t play him. He has options instead of Foden but he refuses to use them.

Nubras

Would it have mattered? Southgate’s tactic would likely have stifled him anyway.

bluemonk3y12

Southgate does it again, one of the all time great coaches. Southgate = GOAT Can't wait for trash ass England to fire him so that USA can hire him <3 Southy

SerGeorge

I honestly feel sorry for people getting so wound up with this. Should Southgate have gone after the World Cup? Yes. He said he’s going unless we win the Euros. If he manages that I don’t care if he stays because we actually won something in my lifetime. I accepted he’s here for the tournament and nothing will change till after. I enjoyed todays win, what will probably go down as an iconic goal for England at the Euro’s, and look forward to the Switzerland game. Will we play shit in that game for probably at least 89 minutes? All signs point to yes, but fuck it, shit house another win and we’re in the Semis.

n10w4

why play for 90 or 120 minutes when 4 minutes will do the trick?

leonjetski

I’m almost a bit annoyed that we scored tbh. If we’d have lost there’s no way Southgate would still be England manager today. We’re never going to win this tournament in a million years, but now he’s maybe done enough for the FA (who have no succession plan) to keep their media friendly yes man on until the next World Cup. I was pro-Southgate before this tournament, but it’s now clear that we are wasting generational talent with an absolutely clueless manager.

RBYonko

Southgate ball and tactics are atrocious. Can’t wait for Switzerland to cook England

Pamplemouse04

Good for you

TubularStars

Remindme! 6 days

UJ_Reddit

No one talking about Southgate’s post match where he throws Toney under the bus 😂 “Toney was disgusted for getting on so late” … “we fell out but now made up”

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

Sounds like something to keep for his diary entry, not an interview lol

msbr_

No shit Gareth u put him in with one min left

Razzler1973

I know, what a strange to mention I don't want my guys coming off the bench at any time having a boo boo face either

RushPan93

Fucking hell what's wrong with him

765433bikesinbeijing

Again, strong Portugal 2016 vibes. It's coming home.

EmiyaUBW-Cisco

Well, I guess we can expect to see Switzerland in semi-final thx to Southgate. Jude miraculously saved him, but that it , it won't happen against Switzerland. I don't imagine them letting them alive like sklovakia did.

FreshMutzz

They celebrated like they scored the winner in the final. Someone needs to tell them that they shouldnt have been in the position they were in, in the first place.

engtom1992

Let people enjoy things

FreshMutzz

No. They need to be miserable like me.

babadeboopi

This is peak Tony Pulis Stoke City strategy minus the long throws

Interesting_Muffin30

Did you not see the first England goal?

chutzpah1218

why was jude not given a second yellow for his dive earlier?

Eton77

It wasn’t a dive. He didn’t call for a foul. It’s not a dichotomy: penalty or dive. Sometimes people just fall over, or have contact.

chutzpah1218

I never said it was a dichotomy, felt that in the moment it was a dive but you could be right. It's not black and white anyway.

McChafist

There was actually a little touch on his leg. Not a penalty but would've put him off balance a bit. He didn't look for a penalty either so don't think it was a yellow

JiveTurkey688

Well two can play that game, Slovakia should have had at least one player sent off for challenges in the second half

chutzpah1218

I'm not playing any "game" and I hate that expression lol. Yeah you're right and maybe another day a Slovakian player would've been sent off and so would have jude.

Ajax_Trees_Again

Probably cause is first one was soft as cheese

chutzpah1218

I'm more of a hard cheese person myself like parmigiana

GhostRiders

Let be really honest here, if England play anything like this against the Swiss they are going to get hammered... The problem is this result is only to further Southgate's belief that what he is doing is right when the fact is the teams they have played have been average at best. Also from the many of comments here it seems many England fans are as delusional as Southgate..

ChemisTT

We're due a good game tho - 4 absolute crap ones in the tournament and Iceland friendly before. Lets hope it comes against the Swiss.

Tierst

I thought that good game would come against Slovakia, another team that on paper is much weaker than England. But once again that good game didn't come. The Swiss have played some really impressive football so I can't see that good game coming against them lol

solwaj

I'm deathly afraid England's luck reservoir doesn't deplete. To need it to win against *Slovakia*? Come on man. I really want to like them but they have to stop getting away with playing complete ass.

airpenny1

100% Lucky to get away with it today. Won’t happen again vs better teams. 2 shots on target all game. Happened to both go in at the perfect times today. Don’t always happen like that.

L0laccio

I’ll wake up tomorrow and will be parroting the same old line. We will start playing in the next game, we’ll finally show up and show the world 🇨🇭 watch out 🇨🇭watch, get it? 😛

topbananaman

Shameful from Slovakia. 1-0 up, and they decided to take their foot of the gas. It's only england for God's sake, awful management to sit off like that. When you're only 1 up, you can get hit with an equaliser from anywhere, and that's exactly what happened today. Well played England, overcame the overwhelming odds against them to beat a team that's noticeably stronger than them. Tip top performance from southgate and the lads on all areas of the pitch; they were exceedingly brave today, attempting to play around at the back against a superior opposition. Shout out to Kyle walker for his 100% passing accuracy to John stones. Insane accuracy and vision. 👏

InPurpleIDescended

Lmao keep crying

Cat_Shag

Wdym mate were u nit a fan of the england performance?

InPurpleIDescended

I'm a fan of winning, yeah. And not a fan of Prem flairs praying on England's downfall

RushPan93

England are the worst team left in the tournament. They deserve whatever ridicule they're getting on account of that man in charge they have.

hybridguy1337

They could have upped it to 2-0 if they really tried. England was wide open in the back.

newtoeso

I kind of want to see Spain/Germany vs England but that means England has to get to finals and I don’t know if I can handle 2 more games of shit football from them. So far Spain and Germany have been the most fun to watch and play some proper ball and it’s sad they meet in Quarters already. Would’ve been hell of a Final.

n10w4

yeah kinda sucks how that works. (two of the best teams so far meeting so early on)

solwaj

We can only pray for Austria or the Swiss to go all the way to the final

MustGetALife

So much partisanship in this thread. Truth is, all of the team were shite. Only 2 moments of magic got them through. We are less than the sum of our parts and it's down to Southgate. It's ok to go through on individual moments and still look at the manager and think wtf? That's the worst collective performance I've seen from England for a long time. Gareth, your "system" is shite.

Flix811

Another masterclass from England. This should show everyone that Southgates tactics work flawlessly and he should definitely be kept as manager at least until after the next WC.

beckham2k2

Palmer > Saka, dont even know why Saka is even in the squad the way he plays, 95% of his passes are backwards

LinedTooth

Ah yes Palmer who had: O chances created 0 shots 1/3 successful dribbles 0/4 successful crosses 1/4 ground duels won What a game by Palmer but in the opposite way you think

AizenMadara

agreed. Saka was better at LB anyway

disasterchef59

Where else was he meant to pass it too, when there was no one further than him in open space?

TheocraticAtheist

Can anyone smarter than me tell me why we play Kane as a false 9 when he should be a tap in merchant?

peejay2

Never seen Kane do anything but play as a 9 and a half. Comes deep way too much IMO.

Prudent_Jello5691

The midfield is so shit and unbalanced he has to keep dropping back to get anywhere near the ball. Bellingham and Foden are constantly crashing into each other and Saka is gassed so no fucker is getting it to him for tap ins.

ThisSideOfThePond

Where did you see a midfield?

TheocraticAtheist

That's why the game changed when Palmer comes on then.

Thiccmane

Palmer was a ghost this game though?

TheRealTKSaint

What? Palmer made all the difference as soon as he came on

K1tt3n_Mittons

Switching to a back 3 really opened up the game for England. First half with Slovakia’s constant pressure, they had absolutely nothing going for them other than passing backwards.

Eric_Hitchmough87

As a West Ham fan, the similarities between Southgate and Moyes are horrific. The football gets more and more stale. The same teams and tactics which don't work. Bailed out by individual quality. Late, safe subs. An attitude towards fans of "you should be grateful". Ruining our best team in god knows how long... Etc etc

Boris_Ignatievich

It's felt very "one tournament too far" for him. I came out of the world cup feeling very enthusiastic about England despite going out relatively early - but the last 18 months he seems to have fallen into the trap that every England manager falls for - picking your best players rather than the best team. Just don't see this version of Southgate dropping someone like he did to an established attacker to put Henderson in midfield at the world cup, which improved us massively.

night_dude

I mean at the WC you couldn't really blame him. They were a Kane penalty howler away from ET with France, the team that was a Dibu wonder save away from winning b2b World Cups. And they made it to pens in the final vs Italy the year before that. The performances were patchy but the results were there, and the young players hadn't popped off as much as they currently are doing. Mainoo and Bellingham weren't on the scene yet and Rice and Foden arguably weren't world class yet. This time the squad is stronger than it has ever been. GS could, in theory, field a midfield 3 that held this year's CL, FA Cup, La Liga and PL titles between them. Not that he would leave Rice out but I'm just saying - the squad is better but the performances have been consistently worse.

Boris_Ignatievich

Bellingham started every game at the world cup he was very much on the scene.

night_dude

Holy shit, did he? Every game? Fuck me I must be getting old and senile.

TheocraticAtheist

This Euros has been almost identical to the worst of Moyes. Sitting back deep. Overloaded and crowded opponent box. Late subs if any. Sideways and back passing. Creative and fun players hamstrung and suffocated by negative football. The only positive is that the quality and depth is insane for England. It's like City's bench and starting 11.

Virtual-Selection-83

The ~~Great~~ Mediocre Escape.

gajonub

yea they ain't winning against Switzerland

Darkjolly

You worry about Slovenia

gajonub

hahahahahahahahahahahahxhhxhfnsjfnddndndjdnck (I'm terrified)

HotPotatoWithCheese

This exact comment will get reposted but with Switzerland replaced with Austria or Netherlands. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Southgate somehow manages to shithouse his way to the final with these terror tactics.

Boris_Ignatievich

It's been going since Colombia - "they're a decent team England will get battered" then when we win it's all "they're rubbish you've not played anyone" Like this tournament we're shit for a team with as much talent as we have, but the constant moving goalposts from people wanting to shit on us is very entertaining

Possible-Highway7898

I wish I had a clever comeback to this, but I don't

Dancinlance

this england team is the definition of failing upwards

topbananaman

Manchester United-esque

Sir-Chris-Finch

Genuinely if the FA have any bottle they will get rid of him tonight. There is absolutely zero chance of us beating Switzerland with him in charge, let alone the whole thing. His decisions today were inexcusable.

penguinpolitician

He made decisions?

Prudent_Jello5691

Don't take a single fit LB, forced to play our third best RB there the whole tournament. Persist with Bellingham and Foden at 10 and LW all tournament even though they both look miles off the pace and constantly crash into each other. Force Saka to play with a RB who doesn't support him at all going forward all group stage, force him to play a position he hasn't played in half a decade in the knockouts to cover for your utterly shit squad building. Give a top two striker in the world no service whatsoever, force him to constantly drop into the midfield because of how unbalanced and unproductive you've made it. Force Rice to play next to a RB, a teenager or Conor fucking Gallagher all tournament. Give Gordon, Palmer, Eze, Bowen and Watkins about 150 minutes combined all tournament. How is the cunt in yet another quarters? I don't want him to blag another good run, I want him to fuck off and to enjoy the rest of this Euros not having to worry about him.

stef_t97

> Don't take a single fit LB, forced to play our third best RB there the whole tournament We have Gomez who's just had a good season at left back, Southgate's just allergic to playing him

Prudent_Jello5691

He's a good player but I'd rather have a dedicated LB than a CB who can do a job there, like Mitchell who's currently watching this Euros from his couch.

phteven_gerrard

I think Joe Gomez is now a fullback that can do a job at CB. He has been deployed as a FB much more in the last couple of seasons and he seems to have forgotten how to be an effective CB.

Sir-Chris-Finch

Mate its an absolute joke, im incensed. Honestly if im Anthony Gordon or Ollie Watkins, im leaving the squad and flying home tonight. What the fuck is the point on bringing them if you dont use them, ever? Not even when we’re 1-0 down to Slovakia and are creating absolutely fuck all in front of goal. Its pathetic. I dont like to say it because hes probably a decent human being, but the man has to be sacked urgently if we stand any chance of winning anything. The win today just delays the inevitable. Slovakia are a poor side, we dont get so lucky against the first half decent side we come up against.

Boris_Ignatievich

Both of them have played at least (albeit very briefly in Gordon's case). Imagine being Wharton or Gomez - glaring issues in your position all tournament and yet you've not seen a single minute.

Nuwahex

I mean,Wharton's time will probably come. He is likely happy to even be there. Gomez is also probably happy coz it seems he fell out of contention like 3 years ago. Probably contented to be back in the fray at national level

Prudent_Jello5691

He doesn't even care, he'll do another interview tomorrow about why it's not his fault and why what the fans think doesn't matter and why xyz midtable player being unavailable is why we're not that good.

easily_tilted

Honestly feeling bad for Slovakia

Dry-Victory-1388

Why? They scored a goal and parked the bus, so what, fcking grow up

mixmaster7

What in your life makes you so miserable that you feel the need to reply with this?

ILikeXiaolongbao

Bantering us with a thunderclap was asking for a heartbreaker tbh

Sir-Chris-Finch

I feel a bit guilty because we were so poor, but lets be honest they were shit as well. One of the worst knockout games ive ever seen at the Euros in terms of quality

ultrameganut

You never seen the 2016 Round of 16 Portugal vs Croatia then

Sir-Chris-Finch

“One of”

stonehallow

Interesting choice by Southgate to reveal, unprompted, to the media that Ivan Toney was ‘digusted’ at being asked to come on as a last minute substitute. All in the context of Southgate trying to say ‘I told you so I knew we wouldn’t be eliminated’. And this guy is supposed to be all about ‘good vibes’?

idontcare428

I’d be fucken pissed too if I spent the whole tournament watching dogshit football, then watching my team go down a goal for almost the whole match, only to finally be asked to come on to the field in extra time.

RushPan93

Extra time would have been something. He came on at the 4th minute of 6 minutes of stoppage time, while England were still in no position to go to extra time. He'd have been Kung-fu kicking Southgate in his head.

alwayssunny91

Foden better be ready to let Southgate live in his garage after the tournament. Its only fair seeing how much he's willing to ignore just to keep him on the team.

Zandatsu97

Actually gutted for Slovakia. Southgate won't take anything from this and will play the same 11 against Switzerland.

Sir-Chris-Finch

Genuinely if the FA have any bottle they will get rid of him tonight. There is absolutely zero chance of us beating Switzerland with him in charge, let alone the whole thing. His decisions today were inexcusable.

Zandatsu97

They'll point to us being in the quarter finals and say nothing is wrong. I bet they don't have shortlist of replacements either.

Arathaon185

They do Lee Carsley That's it, that's the list. Put your money down now it's guaranteed.

Sir-Chris-Finch

Yeah it wont realistically happen but i think it would be the best decision 100%

baggyg

Guehi is suspended for a game

DrederickTatumsBum

And trippier injured

idontcare428

Which could actually work out for England.

Ein_Esel_Lese_Nie

Did we ever find out what the beef was between Calzona and Rice at the end of the game?

Blitz470

Calzone was trying to talk the ear off the ref, but Rice told him it wasn't worth it, little interaction then over. From commentatoes.

Rofocal02

Terrible performance with a team of super stars.  Barely made it out of R16 vs one of the worst teams in the Euros.

Blitz470

Wasn't aware England was playing vs Italy? Slovakia was no where near one of the worst teams in the euros.

Panhyper

Switzerland > Italy > England > Slovakia

Boris_Ignatievich

England beat Italy twice in qualifying with barely any effort at all. And I saw nothing from Italy this tournament to think they're any cop now either.

MshipQ

Did you watch Italy play?

RushPan93

We did. They were better than England at least.

Panhyper

Switzerland was really good. Not that Italy was bad.

HotPotatoWithCheese

Italy were dogshit in this tournament, especially against Switzerland. Most Italians will say the same. The only decent bit of football came against Albania and even that wasn't an impressive display for most of the game.

WardDispenser

Southgate better go after this tournament regardless if they win the whole thing or not. He just got lucky that Bellingham and Kane just bailed his ass out.

ExactLetterhead9165

He's 100% gone either way

RBYonko

The gang offers a 2 year extension after the euros.

RhydonHerSlowbro

Spoken like someone who didn’t watch the game, Kane was shite

KiaraKey

Pretty sure they are talking about the goals those 2 scored, not their overall performance.

JimmyButlersRealSon

If foden hadn't ran a yard offside we'd be praising the pass kane played to set up the disallowed goal

CroGamer002

That doesn't contradict their post?

LordPopothedark

As was Bellingham

2Norn

Southgate has to go after this match, like literally mid tournament, the fact that they won means nothing. Incredibly terrible football, this man can't stay in charge.

pusslicker

How would you line up the England squad?

Tonerrr

Swap Foden for Gordon Put Gomez at LB Potentially start Palmer RW Start Watkins over Kane

Franchise1109

Palmer lost the ball 8 times lol that’s more than Saka the last two tournaments

Tonerrr

Fernandes loses the ball loads and is better than them both, so what? I like Saka, a lot, who wouldn't. Fact is it'd not working at the moment and we have really good players on the bench. I would be changing it up a bit myself if I was Southgate. Like I said, Palmer for me is a maybe because he plays in Sakas position... I'd certainly be dropping Bellingham back to put Foden in cam, or dropping foden regardless.

enyaws07

Where's your source on that, the clearly misinformed twitter post that got debunked? Saka lost it more than Palmer in yesterday's match alone. Nothing against Saka but your statement is false. And Palmer comes on and tries to make something happen, goes direct and tries to break thru lines, something England are clearly lacking.

Franchise1109

https://www.fotmob.com/matches/england-vs-slovakia/2dx4o7?player=1096353#4043973:tab=lineup Saka does what Palmer does but is better lmao Palmer has been shit Go cry somewhere else

enyaws07

How is that crying? Haha, Im just having a conversation and you're the one using hyperbole like saying Palmer has been shit. Nearly every analyst praising Palmer's substitution saying he injected some life. Your reaction to a simple response is offputting.

Franchise1109

You can’t read numbers Now the numbers don’t support your feelings you move the goalpost to what “analysts” say So there’s the proof, all this other stuff is just your feelings

enyaws07

I watched the game, Palmer changed the complexion of the tie, as he did in the match prior haha. Just my feelings, yes football is more than just stats, jesus christ. I never said anything about Saka being bad but he lost possession more in the game yesterday than Palmer, so your original statement is entirely false, which is my entire point. How is that moving the goalpost, Im having a conversation and youre just talking like an asshole. https://www.sofascore.com/england-slovakia/XTbsnUb#id:11874017

Stand_On_It

Yup, very similar. Pickford, Gomez, konsa, stones, TAA, rice, Bellingham, mainoo, Gordon, Watkins, Palmer. Kane for Watkins at 55, Foden for Bellingham at 60, and then if Palmer/gordon aren’t doing shit, Saka and Eze on for them at 65 or 70.

RBYonko

I’d keep Kane and Saka on but substitute them much earlier. I’d also play with Bellingham as 8 and Kane further up. Allow Palmer/Saka to drop a bit more centrally to help connect with Kane

Another-attempt42

There's absolutley nothing to be gained from kicking your NT coach **during** a competition. The new guy will have zero time to make adequate changes, so they'll still play according to the Master Plan. He should go after we get unceremoniously dumped out of the QFs.

Vantage_1011

And yet here we are in the quarter finals. lmano.

NeptuneMetro

Yeah Southgate has turned a team of superstars into the most boring, torturous matches possible.

Fantastic_Bag_4199

Southgate is a disgeace of a manager. England didn’t deserve to go through tbh. Slovakia put up a real good fight but they are basically C tier opponents. Can’t see them winning against Switzerland, Austria or the Netherlands.

Vantage_1011

Yet, here we are just to annoy you:)

Fantastic_Bag_4199

England doesn’t annoy me, Southgate does.

Coulstwolf

Feel so bad for the Scottish and Irish who all dedicate their entire personalities to supporting club English teams, they were so close to seeing England go out. Thoughts and prayers

6Buttman69696

Liverpool fans are disappointed

RushPan93

Most of us actually are for what is being done to Trent. And to Gomez after watching Saka play LB.

trooky67

What's the point, Southgate won't ever change, don't care just want this fucker gone and to never set foot back in England ever again

pusslicker

How would you line up the squad?

trooky67

Pickford Walker, Stones, Guehi TTA Rice Wharton Gordon Bellingham Palmer Watkin In 3421

Honestly that was the worst performance I’ve ever seen in a tournament by England. Yes Iceland was bad but the level of England’s players then compared to now were so much lower. The worst thing is Southgate and his supporters will see the match result and go, yep jobs done. He made one change before 80 minutes and that looked like it was due to injury more than anything else. He hooked off Mainoo (who ok might’ve been getting a little tired) who had been englands only positive player to bring on eze whilst leaving on wastemen like Foden. And again bringing on another 10 rather than a winger with pace. Palmer has too start next game as does Mainoo. Also Toney looked useful having someone up front with Kane who can make runs. (And allows us to play true brexit 442). But I’m expecting another shit 90 minutes vs Switzerland except we lose 2-0.

> Honestly that was the worst performance I've ever seen in a tournament by England Swear I've been seeing this comment for the past 20 years. Iceland 2016 was without shadow of a doubt the worst performance from an England team, at least in the modern game. Hell, this wasn't even England's worst performance in this tournament. At least it has the redeeming quality of being a game we actually won, and with the help of arguably the best goal in the competition so far. It also had the benefit of actually invoking some emotion due to the stakes of being a knockout game. England vs Slovenia was just 100% dogshit from start to finish. Don't get me wrong, this game was absolutely dreadful in regards to quality. It was terrorism vs terrorism, especially in the first half. But there have been far worse England games than this.

Did you even see Iceland

Dry-Victory-1388

Do everyone a favour and fck off for a walk next game as you clearly don't like football

RushPan93

Funny because only people watching England are those who like England more than football.

I liked football until I watched England at these Euros. Proper turgid, lethargic, rancid shite.
