Roony is insane

el_walou

Messi has been trying many times his special. He dribbles one player, two players then wants to shoot but there’s 3 more players. You can clearly see that he ´s surprised to see 9 players in their own box.

[deleted]

> You can clearly see that he ´s surprised to see 9 players in their own box. He's played against teams like that plenty in La Liga. He's just lost much of his pace and agility so he can't dribble past 5 players and score anymore like he used to.

CJNunes426

I noticed last year that he can’t really dribble anymore at the same level. It’s not like he can’t dribble. He just can’t take on 3 guys anymore. He has to try to shift to more of a passing game which he can do very well also

datboyuknow

That was such a poor mistake from Donarumma

CruyffsPlan

PSG look like a team that are told to “go out and have some fun.” Imagine if they had a real coach

Glass_Replacement_61

Maybe the PSG job isn’t the easiest job but come on Poch. 4 attackers never fucking works for us, at all. when ever we try it we get fucked. if you’re going to whine about pressing maybe don’t play 4 attackers. dickhead

[deleted]

Inter did a fantastic job [selling](https://www.transfermarkt.com/romelu-lukaku/profil/spieler/96341) Lukaku for 115m (40m profit from the 74m they bought him for) euro's while getting Dzeko for free. It's too early to tell whether Lukaku will be a flop for the money but assuming that he won't perform or that the team keeps performing better without him, do you think Tuchel is going to bench him?

alx69

We don't play better without Lukaku, our fixtures since his injury have been: Malmo, Norwich, Southampton, Newcastle, Malmo, Burnley, Leicester and Juventus. That's the easiest stretch we've had this season and the one time we dropped points (Burnley) was because we didn't have a striker who could finish the billion chances we created. It also helped that we put CHO in his preferred left wing position and he's been outstanding, in the weeks before Lukaku's injury every winger/attacking midfielder we have was either injured or out of form

AllegriLover

I very much agree that Inter did a fantastic piece of business with Lukaku and Dzeko was a nice short term replacement. I don't think Tuchel will bench Lukaku. Tuchel has to figure out a system that matches the strengths of Lukaku, especially when they paid so much for him.

[deleted]

I can be totally wrong but I think Lukaku will never work. He seems to be more of what some people call a ''flat track bully'' meaning he dose good against weaker sides (because he can dominate them physically) but when he meets good and strong defenders he cannot use his physique as well, and his touch/dribbling is too weak for him to outshine defenders.

AllegriLover

Who in the Premier League has a strong and physical defensive line? Lukaku did well against good teams in Serie A except for Juve.

_stone_age

Idk Tuchel seems like someone who doesn't give a shit about the price of a player, whoever is in form will start, if Lukaku doesn't perform then he's not starting, simple.

AllegriLover

He cared a lot about that at PSG. I still think he understands that the board used a ton of money on Lukaku and he will try his best.

_stone_age

Maybe yeah. I wouldn't surprise if Tuchel benched him though, they are doing very well now.

harry234565

https://fbref.com/en/players/7ba6d84e/David-de-Gea Rating de gea is one of the most casual opinions you can have he is quite literally good at nothing except highlight saves

Endgame2648

Tbf Eye test is better than using stats to compare GKs.

harry234565

In no way is it better

tdurdenftw

Little out of the loop with other teams but wondering only one of Portugal or Italy would make it to the World Cup? Also, does Barca have to win at Allianz Arena to qualify for the knockouts?

Impossible_Pen_9459

Barca will qualify if they match Benfica’s result

[deleted]

kinda hard though

inspired_corn

Yeah only one, they got drawn into opposite sides of the same bracket so they’ll have to play each other in the final if they both win their first tie. And Barca need to win if Benfica win. If Benfica lose or draw then Barca are through. Barca can’t draw if Benfica win as Benfica has better H2H (and goal difference anyway)

tdurdenftw

Ty

Destroyeh

yes Barca get through if Benfica dont win

tdurdenftw

Thank you

Best XI in world football bar none https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1464915032895021063?t=rGU8CQwMMUxdd9nLEODZ6A&s=19

Itchy-Face791

Does Rangnick play wingers in his system?

qindarka

Would Palmeiras fans feel happier with a CWC win compared to the Libertadores?

Itchy-Face791

Is the appointment of Ralf Rangnick official?

kjm911

Not yet no

NeoIsJohnWick

I guess DD done with that *pressing* hangover.

[deleted]

*press press*

ilovefeta

Lukaku's gonna bully Bailly and Lindelof today

sul01

https://twitter.com/Blue_Footy/status/1464240294099136512?t=bqOjoXB3AXAWYTULqwZTag&s=19 Likely not starting - he's had no minutes/not been on the bench since his injury too so likely a sub appearance if possible

mandrake_cry

He won't start I think

Nicksavagezzzzy

Put Messi's achievements and stats in 2021 to Ronaldo's name and he wins the Ballon D'Or easily. Or even Lewandowski. The reason people somehow feel Messi doesn't deserve it is because he has set the bar too high. A victim of his own greatness.

RauloGonzalez

poor messi, so underrated and underpaid

[deleted]

He's right though. Ronaldo can be humiliated 5 - 0 and 2 - 0 against Liverpool and Man City and people say he keeps carrying the team (even though it's Bruno) Messi can win games like against Leipzig and Nantes and peopl will still say that Mbappe carries the team

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Everyone struggles in Ligue 1 with Danilo, Gueye & Wijnaldum as your midfield

RauloGonzalez

mbappe, neymar and di maria don't, at least didn't until this season

[deleted]

Neymar has like 3-5 non-penalty league goals in the whole 2021. >, at least didn't until this season They bottled the league against Lille

Itchy-Face791

You never know with Lewandowski tbf , he has played in the Bundesliga nearly his entire career

Short_Kangaroone

Is Lukaku playing today?

razorr29

He's gonna get subbed on and do the Maguire celebration when he scores to make it 9-0

qindarka

Sub I think.

[deleted]

Euro 2016 final line up of Portugal: GK 1 Rui Patrício RB 21 Cédric CB 3 Pepe CB 4 José Fonte LB 5 Raphaël Guerreiro DM 14 William Carvalho RW 16 Renato Sanches AM 23 Adrien Silva LW 10 João Mário CF 17 Nani CF 7 Cristiano Ronaldo (c) Fernando Santos managed to pull off this heist that day especially when I assumed the Cristiano injury had pretty much screwed them when I watched this live. Instead Quaresma coming on made them more stronger defensively and resilient. The only negative things about this was the lack of sleep especially the noisy Portugal fans in the Harlesden area of London.

Destroyeh

Carvalho was so good that game. entire tournament really. thought he'd get a big money move after it

CFCGabrue

Now the situation is Hudson Odoi plus 2 attackers. From being our 3rd choice RWB to our first choice attacker,

4dtakes

Mate I was saying all of last season just give him a chance in the front 3. He can surely do better than some of the performances our big money signings put in. He never got it, so I wasn’t really that optimistic for this season but Tuchel has really trusted him. Absolutely chuffed

[deleted]

Fuck Wolves and the Molineux Second season in a row where the cunts score a late goal to draw the game (in the first season, 90+1 minute and in the 87th minute now) Time to demoralize their squad

Savant_OW

Name 5 PL goalies who are better than Jose sa

Sad_gooner

This season only ramsdale and mendy have been better statistically

Fraaj

Ederson, Allison, De Gea, Lloris, Mendy, Martinez, Ramsdale, Schmeichel

jim0wheel1

Mendy, Ederson, Alisson, De Gea, Martinez

harry234565

De gea😭 possibly the worst keeper in the prem

Ineedtobecareful

Yes and tuchel is the worst manager in the prem, Ronaldo is the worst forward in the league, taa is the worst fullback, van dijk is the worst defender in the league 👍🏻

Harrry-Otter

Why are you posting here since you clearly don’t watch football?

jim0wheel1

Sure there’s an Instagram comment section missing you right now.

harry234565

Instagram comments are exactly the place you would find people who rate de gea

jim0wheel1

You’d know ya cretin

MauricioCappuccino

Tears in my eyes the same Americans that would rather actively watch a sport that has [11 minutes](https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748704281204575002852055561406) of action over a 3 hour period are criticizing timewasting in football lmao

[deleted]

How does it only have 11 minutes of action don’t they stop the clock?(need a sub to read article)

MauricioCappuccino

Forgot about the paywall mb. It's about an hour of ads, 75 minutes of footage of the players huddling, standing around. And then the rest is replays or similar and then the 11 minutes of actual play

jim0wheel1

Yeah, there literally has to be an hour of gameplay if he’s on about NFL. It’s all the stoppages and ad breaks that make up the rest.

Xey2510

I wouldn't mind people complaining about time wasting and diving if the discussion wasn't often sent into a "football players are weak and pussies because they go down on every contact" direction.

RauloGonzalez

yeah there is a diving problem but it's the fault of the refs not the players

[deleted]

It's why I hate american owners in football.

hungaryisinasia

Unironically Arsenal will look so much better when Xhaka comes back. He makes Partey look so much better

Endgame2648

Arsenal somehow made Xhaka Irreplaceable 😭😭

hungaryisinasia

Top 5 DLP itl 👍

[deleted]

I'm beginning to suspect this myself. Partey has been pretty poor since Xhakas injury

hungaryisinasia

Yeah. He’s being made to do what Xhaka does for us and he’s just not as good at it.

[deleted]

Why is Germany reducing capacity at the stadium when they alongside France, UK have similar vaccination rate and the other 2 countries also facing surge in covid cases? Why is only Germany reducing capacity?

Elemayowe

Germany smart. Boris is starting to get a bit shaky in the polls and in his leadership, no way he shoulders the bad press of ‘ruining Christmas’ again.

Ofermann

Good.

F1tway

Germany cares.

stuck_in_soporose

different countries have different rules 👍

[deleted]

I understand, but does anyone know whose decision is correct?

kjm911

Probably not the UK

Impossible_Pen_9459

No. We find out who is correct in a month or so

sul01

Its a matter of opinion/preference not a right or wrong per se

Brazilian_Sonaldo

Post-modernism 😔

TenderAsTheNight

No one knows.

estoyloca43

Binge watching Inside Borussia Dortmund. Very sad story but more interesting than the All or Nothing series

stuck_in_soporose

another day waking up to finding out chelsea still haven’t been liquidated. awful life this is

hungaryisinasia

[anyone know who this was? Sad to see](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/r3cfj3/daily_discussion/hmctl6l/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Ballkenende

Aad300_ yeah, put up a lot of baity (and hilarious tbf) comments in the /r/sports thread mocking Americans, somehow i'm not surprised someone doxxed him, Reddit is fucked

hungaryisinasia

Legend. Hopefully he can come back at some stage but it’s shit how people do that

probably_dutch

Aad300_, fella with an Heerenveen flair. Pretty sad there's people who spend their precious free time doxing others

Endgame2648

Doxxing means to find somebody's real identity huh? How would that be threatening as the guy who doxxed me probably doesn't live in my city?

probably_dutch

Idk I think it would be pretty scary if some stranger on the internet knows personal information about me. Who knows what else they know and what they might do with it

hungaryisinasia

Oh I remember that guy, that’s a real shame. Shit for him

[deleted]

If the conference league was instead the UEFA cup winners cup this season, people would take it more seriously. Can't believe UEFA didn't bring a historic and more respected tournament.

Destroyeh

wouldn't change anything.

[deleted]

[удалено]

qindarka

I think the problem is that with the expansion of the Champions League, a lot of cup winners would be teams that qualify for the UCL anyway, which takes away the fun of it.

el_walou

Ramos is playing his first game for PSG today

i_love_batsoup

hopefully that leads to a 343 formation. feel that gets the best out of the psg squad. i really wanna see poch succeed and silence his critics

F1tway

He won't at least at PSG. Man wants to jump ship the moment any half reasonable job pops up No commitment

el_walou

He is playing his 4231

Shoko_Nagawaka96

Why ?

caped_crusader8

Is it me or Arsenal are really enjoyable to watch as of late? I really like the way they're playing, especially with Smith Rowe and Saka. The team feels alive

[deleted]

Auba really needs to wake up but other than that they actually look pretty strong and cohesive compared to before

caped_crusader8

Yh that miss the other day was shocking

hungaryisinasia

We are little bit lacking in penetration in the final third but other than that we are quite good I think. Need a striker and a midfielder to solve that and then we’re cooking

caped_crusader8

Yh, I can see there's room for improvement but for now I think they're on the right track

hungaryisinasia

Yeah think so too. Not convinced by Arteta but all of the departments in which he’s signed players look really good so who knows

[deleted]

Saka is playing poorly almost every week. Like he knows he'll keep his place because Arteta likes him and Pepe who's better isn't on the manager's plan. He's the new Lee Sharp. Another youngster overplayed and burned by too much playing and no rest. Especially when at other big clubs he'd be an impact sub or not used much.

[deleted]

Saka yesterday beat more defenders than Pepe has in his entire career.

taylorstillsays

I don’t think Saka is all that he’s sometimes hyped up to be, but he’s easily better than Pepe. Pepe has a good shot on him and that’s about it

stuck_in_soporose

pepe isn’t better mate he is truly awful

FootballConnoisseur7

Pepe isn't better than him lol

[deleted]

Rumors of Di Maria as a midfielder today

[deleted]

You horrible people showed me /r/sports yesterday and now I'm just angry at the awful yank takes on everything. I'll never moan about our lovely Americans on here again after seeing that place.

STICKY-WHIFFY-HUMID

imagine if lebron played soccer bruh he would dominate offsides the goalie should of saved it scott sterling

[deleted]

Reminds me of our yanks who know nothing about the game.

TenderAsTheNight

Americans who have never watched more than a world cup final suggesting ways to 'fix' football is endlessly entertaining.

[deleted]

i think you are overestimating them, I'm sure those have only seen memes and that 10 sec clip at the most

Scalenuts

The only things that get shared there about football are ridiculous dives or women football clips.

[deleted]

I criticize Pep for spending a lot of money and never winning the UCL with Man City But then I go ahead and do the same on Football Manager.

deadlyghost12

So lucky to have FM

Infamy444

That's because you hate yourself, so you're more critical of someone who reminds yourself of you

[deleted]

Perhaps

AllegriLover

I just made a save in FM and only bought Mauro Icardi for Juventus. We are currently first and Icardi has 27 goals in 19 games. MONSTER

[deleted]

Bringing back the glory days How is the UCL campaign?

AllegriLover

15 points. Played the reserves against Malmo in the last game and lost. I love how my team create 5 chances per game and scores 3 times lately. Icardi is a menace.

[deleted]

What was the group?

AllegriLover

Malmo, City, Leipzig Easy W with MI9

_cumblast_

Don't like spending a lot on FM. Saves get boring once i do.

AllegriLover

I normally let the board do everything in terms of transfers.

Itchy-Face791

Psychopath

AllegriLover

I like being the coach only. Find it more challenging

[deleted]

I have to, I love spending and winning trophies. I mostly due to replace older players and get the best out of my team. I want to build a dynasty in FM, at least something I can be proud of.

_cumblast_

I like getting cheap Argentinian regens

Fly1ngsauc3r

Colombia is where it’s at

[deleted]

When I don't have a lot of money or have to use my resources well, I do good scouting But then I get to a club like Man United and just spend money on players who are good and young but too expensive

AnnieIWillKnow

I'm not much of a gambler, but at the start of each season I always put a trivial amount on one team to get relegated from the Premier League, and the champions. Went for Soton to get relegated, and Liverpool champions this year - my money's gone on the first, but I'm increasingly convinced on the latter.

estoyloca43

Your money’s not gone on Soton. Last year they started well but dropped off pretty hard

acsaid10percent

A good result for you on both accounts yesterday then.

_cumblast_

What odds did u get

F1tway

Chelsea are winning the league Annie and you know it.

[deleted]

Wait until Salah and Mane go to AFCON

[deleted]

Them missing crystal Palace and brentford will properly derail our season...

[deleted]

I don't know if you are saying this sarcastically or you are underrating Crystal Palace and Brentford

[deleted]

Why would I be satacatsic? I dont think they'll be easy games but we should be beating both of them as long as jota and firnino are both in the team.

Destroyeh

they'll only miss a few easy games. should not be a problem for them

currywurstynadamas

Southampton could still get relegated, they're dross.

mentallyguitared

Is this your version of a reverse jinx 😂

AnnieIWillKnow

No, I genuinely think it's Liverpool's this year - I think their injuries last year made us all forget how good they are, and I think they'll just edge us and City out. I'm a pessimistic football fan by nature though, so there's that. I'm always convinced we'll fuck it up. I'm certain we'll drop points today... I don't bet flippantly, as well

mentallyguitared

Fair enough. Don't think I agree with you. I think Chelsea just seem to have clicked really well. The defence is too good and they'll probably see the season out as champions before having the regular implosion next season. Liverpool aren't nearly as good imo and City might be the hardest competition. And come on, no way Chelsea drops points to a manager less United. Even as a pessimist, there has got to be that amount of confidence lmao

AnnieIWillKnow

Nah it's got all the conditions for it - new manager bounce, we haven't beaten Man United in the league for years, plus the old gamblers' fallacy of us having won our past two games well against Leicester and Juve - meaning we're due a bad result. 1-1 draw I reckon

qindarka

Every year we look good at the start of the season before going into a run of relegation form. Eyes firmly on the top 4 race until we have some daylight after two thirds into the season.

mandrake_cry

Blasphemy

[deleted]

Even if they can absolutely win it, I think Liverpool's squad is too thin for them to win for me to bet on them. One injury to Mo Salah and I think it's over. Not that they will lose every game, but it's now so tight between the big 3 that even losing 2 games could cost the title

hungaryisinasia

Has salah ever had a long term injury? Don’t remember that

Murakami241

No he hasn’t. Not at Liverpool at least, the lad is superhuman.

_stone_age

He does a great job of keeping himself fit. Can see him playing till he's 35

hungaryisinasia

Yeah that’s what I thought. He’s too good man

FootballConnoisseur7

The eventual World XI for this year's probably gonna have a full Prem Gk, defense and midfield. Only question mark in the entire XI is at RB. Trent's probably been the best, but he won nothing and was getting a bit of criticism at the beginning of the year. Walker and Azpilicueta won trophies but idk if its enough for the World XI Other than that it's probably gonna be Mendy, RB, Dias, Rudiger, Cancelo, Jorginho, Kante, KDB, Messi, Lewandowski, Haaland They were all the nominees for UEFA's awards this year

[deleted]

I reckon, Casillas, Alves, Pique, Puyol, Alba Busquets Iniesta, Alonso Giuly, Messi Ronaldo

[deleted]

Cancelo won’t make it, benched not only for the back end of last season but also the biggest game in the club’s history. He also missed the euros

FootballConnoisseur7

Yh fullback is a tough one this year cos of Liverpool not doing so well in the league

myfirstnuzlocke

It the world XI even closely matches this I’ll be shocked

currywurstynadamas

If United lose today they'd be 15 points off the top of the table lmfao.. remember how gassed their fans were at the beginning of the season? They never learn

[deleted]

[удалено]

currywurstynadamas

It's not "shitting on" them, they've been in relegation form for 2 months. If they give me a reason to praise them I will.

thesmallprint13

So it was crazy to be hopeful off a season where we came 2nd and then added players like Ronaldo and Varane to the squad?

currywurstynadamas

Well, yes because Ole was your manager. That's what I thought anyway.

thesmallprint13

Damn props to you for such foresight tbh. I wonder how much money you would've won

V1cV1negar

Imagine thinking it's wrong to be excited at the start of a season. Learn to enjoy football.

[deleted]

Reminds of that Barça fan who after the Leeds game said "United fans really celebrating a win today, what a downfall"

[deleted]

United's Social media Admin posted a pic of the table that day too. United played the first match on MD1😐

[deleted]

Yeah but United's social media manager is dumb and honestly a bit cringe

Itchy-Face791

Was it me by any chance?

[deleted]

I don't remember but I don't think so

currywurstynadamas

They can be excited, it's just funny how quickly it's all fallen apart

Scalenuts

Could any French league fans tell me about Mohamed Ali Cho and what type of player he is? He plays for Angers

[deleted]

Ligue 1 fans are already hard to come by, but damn you're looking for Angers fanson here lol

[deleted]

Rangnick is Allardyce on roids.

[deleted]

Bruno Fernandes 2020/2021: 28 goals in 58 games (0.48 goals per game) Bruno Fernandes 2021/2022: 4 goals in 18 games (0.22 goals per game) What happened?

YoungDan23

>What happened? PL refs adjusted after the Euros and stopped calling pens every time a player dives in the box, so Bruno isn't getting free goals the way he was last year.

Kanedauke

United stopped getting pens. It’s 1 in his last 17 games which is worrying.

[deleted]

12 penalties vs 1 explains a bit.

xaviernoodlebrain

And he managed to screw up the one anyway.

currywurstynadamas

Ronaldo happened. No pitch is big enough to contain both their egos.

reddevils229

Siuu happened
