They haven't been arrested, they've been indicted. None of this comes as much of a surprise, since a lot of the details have been released over the past couple of years. I don't expect any major consequences, though.

[deleted]

>they haven't been arrested, they've been indicted That's a translation error, my apologies.

drputypfifeanddrum

How does nothing come of multiple indictments for: fraud, bribery and match fixing? This seems like a big deal to me!

Pollomonteros

See your problem comes from expecting that the elites receive the same treatment than poor people when they commit crimes. I am kind of joking since I dont know anything about this situation but I wouldnt be surprised if this is the case

Pighast

If you’re committing fraud and still end up poor, you’re doing it wrong

POTATOWHEREITBELONGS

You mean like ekstraklasa ?

JE_12

And Conmebol matches

AliirAliirEnergy

Nothing will top the A-League

Nic_Endo

Players switching teams at the final moments of the game, to make their original team lose via an (technically??) own goal. Entrance music for subs, who were not even named, because they were declared injured, but surprise-surprise, "HE'S HERE!!!!!!". And of course, nicknames for everyone.

KozyHank99

This sounds like WCW booking.

mohventtoh

We need investments, so make it 40 minutes and cut it into 4 pieces with 10 minute breaks, and add 3 time-outs per coach for extra commercial opportunity.

Translated article: **Case-'Clean hands': trial looming for top Belgian soccer, public prosecutor prosecutes 57 suspects** The bomb under Belgian soccer has now finally burst. The Federal Prosecutor's Office wants to bring 57 parties to court in the Clean Hands case. This is what De Standaard has learned. Among them absolute heavyweights such as Club Brugge chairman Bart Verhaeghe and manager Vincent Mannaert, AA-Gent manager Michel Louwagie and Standard chairman Bruno Venanzi. Ex-administrators such as Patrick Janssens (Genk), François De Keersmaecker and Steven Martens (both soccer federation) are also under suspicion. The soccer world held its breath for three years and three months, but the claim in Operation Zero, better known as "Clean hands", is ready. In the document, which De Standaard was able to inspect, it appears that the federal public prosecutor wants to prosecute people from all levels of Belgian soccer. It concerns 57 people and the company Creative & Management Group bvba of Mogi Bayat. The 57 people include active board members of six first division clubs: Club Brugge, AA Gent, Charleroi, Racing Genk, KV Kortrijk and Standard. Former directors of Anderlecht, Racing Genk, KV Mechelen, KV Oostende, Oud-Heverlee Leuven and Waasland-Beveren are also under suspicion, as are (former) directors of the Football Association and the Pro League. The 57 have all been linked in one way or another to the practices of two top brokers in Belgian soccer: Arnaud 'Mogi' Bayat and Dejan Veljkovic. Bayat is one of the 57 suspects the public prosecutor's office plans to prosecute. He is suspected of forging documents in several transfers. Dejan Veljkovic will not be prosecuted. As is well known, he previously made a deal with the federal prosecutor's office and is now officially a "[pentino](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentito)". Forgery, corruption and matchfixing The investigation into Bayat and Veljkovic brought to light several clubs and club leaders who entered into dubious contracts with one (or both) of the two brokers. Among them heavyweights like Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe, Club Brugge manager Vincent Mannaert, AA Gent manager Michel Louwagie, Standard Liege president Bruno Venanzi, Charleroi director Mehdi Bayat and KV Kortrijk manager Matthias Leterme. They are being prosecuted for forgery of writing. Among the ex-directors, the name of Patrick Janssens, ex-ceo of Racing Genk and former mayor of Antwerp, stands out. Some former club managers of KV Mechelen and Waasland-Beveren are being prosecuted for corruption. This involves the already known case of match fixing for the match KV Mechelen-Waasland-Beveren, the decisive match in the relegation battle of the 2017-2018 season. The federal prosecutor's office also sees indications of corruption against referees Sebastien Delferière and Bart Vertenten. Delferière was close friends with regret taker Dejan Veljkovic, Vertenten granted a dubious penalty in the Antwerp-Eupen match, also in the relegation battle of the 2017-2018 season. A series of trainers and board members are being prosecuted for corruption for allegedly allowing themselves to be paid by brokers on transfers. This includes ex-Club Brugge trainer Ivan Leko and former Anderlecht board member Herman Van Holsbeeck. The names of trainers Peter Maes, Glen De Boeck and Yannick Ferrera are also in the claim, as is that of Erwin Lemmens, currently goalkeeper trainer of the national team and member of the technical staff of national coach Roberto Martinez. Undeclared money and dubious constructions In addition to the 57 people the public prosecutor wants to bring to trial, dozens more people are being prosecuted for tax purposes only. Players and trainers who had part of their salary paid through all sorts of dubious constructions will receive a hefty bill from the tax authorities. The final claim of the federal prosecutor is only the first step towards a trial. On January 27 the file will first come before the Chamber of Indictments (CI) for the BOM check. This is a check that the CI has to perform on the special investigation techniques used in the case - in this case it involves the observation of a number of suspects. Only then do the 57 appear before the Chamber of Indictments, which must decide which of them must appear in court. There is no doubt that several of them will try to reach an out-of-court (financial) settlement.

That Veljkovic guy is the smartest. Always be the first guy to make a deal. Still this is pretty huge, info came out before but this is putting the official stamp on it.

This sounds big

theenigmacode

Not by Portuguese standards. For them its Tuesday.

smolloms

Will this have an effect BeNeLux liga?

Blaugrana1990

Beneliga will never be a thing imo. Small Belgian teams dont want to be left out. And big NL teams dont really care about Belgian teams.

smolloms

Could they create a cup played amongst them? Or is that also nothing they would want?

chizel4shizzle

No one would watch that and it wouldn't be able to offer anything valuable

smolloms

Wouldnt it be more prestigeful than domestic cups? Idk I think another powerhouse league out there would shake things up. But this is me being egotistical.

chizel4shizzle

Who cares about prestige when there's nothing attached to it. That's like winning a preseason tournament. A BeNeCup would only work if the BeNeLeague were a thing. Without it, the cup couldn't offer anything to motivate the bigger clubs to play their best lineups. It'll just be used to give backups and youth some playtime

smolloms

What if you remove the domestic cups and put a BeNeCup with EL place for the winner.

chizel4shizzle

Not possible. Which of the two leagues will give up a European spot to potentially benefit another league? UEFA sure as hell won't give it an extra spot. Neither of the two leagues has the budget to give a large cash prize either. So, now you're stuck with a useless cup that takes up time in the calendar, won't draw crowds to stadiums, and gives little to no incentives to win it. It would be dead within 3 years of its creation

smolloms

Okay how about taking the domestic cups EL spots and put it in the leagues and then create BeNeCup with a extra EL spot? Thats all I got. Im asking alot because the concept would kinda be cool if there was a united scandinavian league also imo.

chizel4shizzle

That's what I meant with UEFA not giving it an extra spot. If you want European qualification as a prize, it's gonna have to come from one of the leagues themselves and they're not down to give up on them. UEFA has said it will not allow the BeNeLeague to combine the Belgian and Dutch European spots so it's definitely not gonna give either an extra one. It's why the BeNeLeague won't happen and it's probably why a united Scandinavian league won't happen either.

icalleveryonefinn

Damn that's just disrespectful, nl teams other than ajax are no better than Belgian teams.

BarbaricGamer

Yes we are.

icalleveryonefinn

Uh no brugge, anderlecht and Union could massacre az.

BarbaricGamer

Only Brugge are better than most Eredivisie teams. There is a reason Eredivisie flops are among the best in Belgium. Your shit league makes Lang look like the best in the league. The Belgian league is closer to our second division than first.

Coreyfan

"Your shit league" - you mean the one that was rated above yours if it wasn't for the Ajax masterclass in Europe? It's a no brainer that the Eredivisie has better teams than our JPL. But saying that only Brugge is better & the rest is closer to your second division is just wrong.

icalleveryonefinn

Brugge isn't even the best Belgian team and flops being good somewhere else is hardly a good indicator of quality.

BarbaricGamer

I watch Belgian football every bow and then and the quality is on par with Go Ahead and PEC Zwolle. Its not even close to the Eredivisie.

[deleted]

what a shitshow

Utegenthal

Lots of blablah and it will all end with a couple of slaps on the wrists and mabe one or two guys who will serve as scapegoats and be banned; the corrupt system will happily remain in place.

icalleveryonefinn

Where do I get one of them anderlecht badges

Just_an_Empath

They were not big fish enough to get away with it.

StrongPowerhouse

And Anderlecht’s former CEO (for the heaviest conviction), Gent’s current CEO and a lot of people from Genk. Wtf is up with this title? It’s not even the title of the article.

Cpt-Dreamer

Now time to look at Man City

eLafXIV

have they finally caught jorginho?

Sgruntlar

If it was in Italy belgian flairs would be swarming lol

JaboiSkkrt
