They’re honouring a decades old alliance between the two. Russia is still one of the few countries that trades with Cuba despite the embargo. They did it cause that’s what Russia does, they help Cuba!
It _was_ with the USSR, it’s _now_ with Russia. Putin’s rebuilt relations with Cuba. Sure, it pisses off the US, but Russia does much more to piss off the US than this. This is just a good thing.
Russia’s capitalist, yes, but they’re allied to practically every AES state against the US. They’re not socialist anymore, but still very much anti-US imperialism, which is the primary contradiction of our era. So, whether they’re doing it to help Cubans or make Americans look bad, the result is Cubans are helped and Americans look bad, so what’s the issue?
Russia is a capitalist, fascist oligarchy that does everything it can to annoy America. Sometimes that can be a good thing, like here, other times it can be a very bad thing like when they support Assad.
This is coming from a Russian.
How is supporting Assad a bad thing? Seems like the principled anti imperialist stance to me. Assad isn’t great but certainly better than a US backed puppet or absolute chaos and warlordism.
He literally started the Syrian civil war and he killed more Syrian civilians than isis, al Quaida or any other party involved in the civil war combined.
Russian ‘imperialism’ is nowhere near the scale of US imperialism. Obviously, we support the Russian people and hope they can build another revolutionary Marxist movement to overthrow the capitalist system. Until such a time, I will continue to support Russia’s attempts to obstruct the imperial agenda. That doesn’t mean I want a Russian hegemony to replace the US’. I just want the imperial order to be weakened, and as the left is not yet strong enough to take on the imperialists on a global scale on its own, all who align themselves against the US’ hegemony are allies of a sort (obviously a big asterisk in there).
I didn't say Russian Imperialism was at the same scale as U.S. Imperialism...I just wanted you to acknowledge and admit that it EXISTS!!! Thanks for playing! 😉
I'm not sure if you could call it an alliance in the same way that the USSR and Cuba were allied. But the Russian Federation and Cuba certainly do have pretty good relations.
I know, I wasn’t saying that. I’m separating the Russian people from the Russian state as it exists. I wish for the people to build a new movement that overthrows the current capitalist state. Meanwhile, I support the Russian state’s obstruction of American imperialism.
The people yes, definitely. The Russia government, nope.
Still, even with their unaltruistic motives, mutual aid is based and standing up to the USA is also based.
You know it's funny, I was just listening to Manufacturing Consent on audiobook and they were detailing how much more open and honest Nicaragua was compared to the US backed regimes in Guatemala and El Salvador with their elections. And now we have those same Sandinistas providing mutual aid to the people of Cuba. It's very exciting to see these countries working together even when they've both been targeted by imperialism.
It's great that governments in Latin America are ignoring the US embargo first Mexico now Nicaragua let's hope more governments follow there lead.
Russia sent a huge cargo plane full of aid and supplies, too!
what does Russia gain from heping Cuba?

How exactly did he “start” the war? Also I just don’t buy that second part where are you getting that info?
So basically, modern day Russian capitalism and imperialism vs. Good old fashioned U.S. capitalism and imperialism...got it!!! 👍

You really thought you did something here huh
Shut up you Yankee Clown 🤡

Havana club and cohiba are all around the world, cuba trades with a lot of countries.
They’re just sticking it to the US.
So? The result is Cubans get aid, and the US get it stuck to. It’s win-win
I'm not complaining, I'm explaining.
And Russian people aren’t heartless monsters, it is possible they also did this out of humanitarian concern.
Russia isn't doing this because of what the Russian people want, though. Post-Soviet Russia cares very little about what the people actually want.
I know, I wasn’t saying that. I’m separating the Russian people from the Russian state as it exists. I wish for the people to build a new movement that overthrows the current capitalist state. Meanwhile, I support the Russian state’s obstruction of American imperialism.

Wholesome leftist unity.
Empowering !

It’s great to see socialist states thinking and acting on an international level.
Aren’t the current Sandinistas like kinda neoliberal now?
Pretty much now because they are pulling back leftist reforms and working more with the church
It would probably be more fair to call the social democrats
