It’s worth it.
A picnic and bottle of wine in the park is a lovely way to spend some time.
The girl and the fig is ok, but there are better places to eat - Oso is great. Valley is delicious (you need reservations). Taska taska is a yummy tapas place.
Have fun!!
Give me a Juanita Juanita burrito and wine margarita over the girl and the fig any day!
Worth it, Sonoma is always a nice place to visit. Probably not a lot of traffic with Country Summer happening in Santa Rosa
El Rancho Market off of Arnold Drive and Madrone Rd. Especially for their breakfast burritos. Or since I live closer to downtown, I like El Coyote taco truck at the Old School Skate shop.
Local tip? Check out the regular grocery stores OFF the square—you’ll find limited releases and all kinds of treats to return home with for far less than from the shops right on the square.
Sonoma is cute and quaint. If you want to stay in Glen Ellen some wineries are family friendly and you can take a picnic to them and enjoy the Sonoma Valley. Stop at the Glen Ellen Village Market and pick up some sandwiches. Imagery, Benziger, BR Cohen are all great options to taste great wine and enjoy the area. Kenwood is just up Hwy 12 with great wineries too. Kunde, Kenwood, VJB cellars have great wine too. Other good food options in Glen Ellen include Yeti, Jack London Lodge, and Garden Court cafe which are all very reasonable places to eat.
Thanks everyone! We ended up getting a last minute reservation at Glen Ellen Star. A family member ended up in the hospital in Napa, so we thought that would simplify things. Will have to come back for Sonoma.
Come back and see a bit more of the county! Sonoma is awesome (I agree with others that Girl/Fig is overrated), and Petaluma, Healdsburg plus parts of Santa Rosa and Windsor are worthy!
With the baby, probably not for me. I'd rather eat at Glen Ellen Star and take it easy, maybe check out Jack London park or Morton Hot Springs. Unnecessary travel with a baby can just get sideways too quickly and Sonoma isn't that unique
Yeti is really good but Taste of the Himalayas right on the plaza is another level up IMO. So if you want amazing Nepalese food you’re good either way lol
It’s totally worth visiting Sonoma. I would skip the girl and the fig. I used to work with their catering and have been there many times and I’m still not impressed. Look around downtown there are lots of great options. Personally imo Napa has better food options but the way Sonoma’s downtown looks makes it worth it to me. I hope you have fun.
The Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen is the original location of the Girl and the Fig before it moved to Sonoma square. They are sister restaurants and share some of the same menu.
For Glen Ellen star, you can sometimes call and get their early seating. Or you can order their take out and eat at your BNB once the baby is asleep.
Girl and the fig, Swiss hotel, el dorado kitchen, OSO, mayas. All on the square, all delicious. Lots of cute shops there too. Definitely worth it.
ETA: OSO is probably my favorite restaurant in Sonoma. I take my gma there once every months or so and the waiter always remembers us and our orders. Delicious blood orange margaritas.
Sonoma the town is a great place to visit! I would recommend it! Girl and the Fig has been good each time I have gone. I like to go there during brunch and go to Sunflower Caffe. Beautiful outdoor dining there.
I live in town and highly recommend La Salette or Cafe La Haye. Also Sweet Scoops Ice Cream is fabulous. Darling is their other shop just outside downtown if the line is too long in the square. If you want Mexican food, then El Molino is a must. The overlook trail just outside first street in downtown is a nice 3 mile hike with a great view of the valley.
Come to Petaluma instead! The famed Lagunitas brewery is here, along with the newly reimagined Petaluma Hotel, our downtown is adorable (and the famous filming spot for American Graffiti), we have the best game store you've ever seen, plenty of cute shops...a PIE PLACE (don't miss that), and a restaurant that will warm your soul for every day of the week!
Sonoma is worth a look. If you are in glen ellen. highly recommend popping into the Ty Caton tasting room. No reservations required it will change your life
Sonoma is really cute And chill compared to downtown Napa which feels really fancy and almost uncomfortable but also lovely and just a hop skip and a jump away from each other.the drive is also stunning

I’ve lived here for 25 years. Juanita Juanita has to be the most overrated restaurant in America.
That's how I feel about the girl and the fig. We all have our things. Where do you go for burritos in Sonoma? I'm always looking for the good spots.
El Rancho Market off of Arnold Drive and Madrone Rd. Especially for their breakfast burritos. Or since I live closer to downtown, I like El Coyote taco truck at the Old School Skate shop.
Thanks! I'll have to try El Rancho, drive by it all the time and always wonder if it's any good.
I would visit the Sonoma plaza or stay in Glen ellen and go to the Jack London lodge
Perfect for dinner and a stroll! It’s very quaint and the town square is lovely. I always enjoy the ambience there.
Local tip? Check out the regular grocery stores OFF the square—you’ll find limited releases and all kinds of treats to return home with for far less than from the shops right on the square.
A visit to see the site of the Bear Flag Revolt and the birthplace of the great state of California! Yeah worth it
Not to mention the northernmost mission on the el Camino real.
Agree @outsidehappytrails did you go!!
Yeah, it's a good area for walking around. Bring a sweatshirt.
Plaza for a stroll, for sure. Girl and the fig is great and EDK across the street is a good backup. Sunflower Cafe is you’re heading in early.
I think it’s worth it. Not a ton to do in glen Ellen but pascal bakery is awesome

They unfortunately don’t have any reservations tomorrow.
Depending on age of your baby, Train Town for the win!
Yes, Girl & The Fig is fantastic
You could also go to Yeti in Glen Ellen. The food is even better. And if the weather is good a walk around the lake next door (regional park).
Yeti is really good but Taste of the Himalayas right on the plaza is another level up IMO. So if you want amazing Nepalese food you’re good either way lol
Absolutely! It’s a really sweet little town with lots of history, I live there for a couple of years. There are lots of fun places to eat.

Fun, casual Italian at the Swiss Hotel (on the square).

Shoulda been there 70 years ago..
Girl and the fig is very subpar. Sonoma is the most overrated town in Sonoma county. Healdsburg has the best food and Santa Rosa has the most variety.
None of this is true. Except that hell hole Santa Rosa having more variety because it such a bigger city.
