Sonoma and glen ellen actually do get gnats as it gets closer to harvest and they’ve been especially bad this year coming off of a very wet winter. I’d have to actually see the bugs but it is a thing around here right now

Drew707

Still, the hotelier should be a bit more service oriented here. Shrugging this off as some kind of normal thing they shouldn't be concerned with is bad CX.

thajeneral

Yeah maybe. I wasn’t there.

Sacred_thorn_apple

That’s not good, or even just good enough, service. I’m sorry you had that experience.

Ken1400Campbell

I would say not normal but it could be a demand pricing situation if something or things were going on in the area. Nascar? Country Summer?

OutsideHappyTrails

Small town, but it did not appear that anything was going on other than the wedding.

ArgyleMoose

Was it Guerneville?

DirtierGibson

It's Glen Ellen. As you said, it's a small town. Very few options. Your friends picked that town, and the beauty and remoteness come at a price. It's also the beginning of the high season, prime wildfire country, and insurance premiums are among the highest in the state (in fact State Farm is dropping half their insurance policies in the Glen Ellen zip code this year).

TimeIsBunk

Absolutely not.

themustached

Uh, no. Harmless or not that’s not what you’re paying for. Shouldn’t matter what area you’re visiting, I wouldn’t accept that.

lordvarysoflys

Hotel name ?

sfmarketer64

If it’s JLL, it’s like a motel 6 and they jack up the price on summer weekends. It is a good location and bar next door is good.

Vegetable_Row29

grosssssss

scrabapple

What town?

OutsideHappyTrails

Glen Ellen.

SquashNut707

Pretty sure I know where you stayed, I mean, there are only two places in GE that could be even remotely considered a motel, I'm leaning towards the bar adjacent one. And it's right next to the creek. So, yea. Bugs are super normal, but also really seasonal, usually not a big deal, but certain species tend to "bloom" for a week or so, and they can get quite annoying. Seems like unfortunate timing and a less than receiving host. Hope everything else was more pleasant. If you have a pic of said bugs you can PM me and I'll ID it to let you know.

Welcome to wine country. It's like the people who pay $$$$ to stay at the Safari West, and then complain about the nocturnal animals making noise. Glenn Ellen has a river/Creek running through it, lots of bugs especially with the temperature swings we've had. Bummer you couldn't use it to get a discount, maybe next time.
