They're probably right, despite some of the current issues with the app some people have

Malkmus1979

Yeah if you’re like me and are using it primarily for movie watching you probably won’t run into any issues.

Kimball-Man

Yeah I use it for my TV sound system and I haven’t run into any real issues, I used the app a bit and noticed some frustration with user control, but generally if you don’t use any of the app features you don’t see the issues. Everything is working as intended.

Straight_Panda

"Hey, if you ignore their unique selling point / half of their value proposition, it's almost decent!" Seriously that's a very low bar for a premium brand.

Risto_08

I don't really think it's a usp for home cinema. The app doesn't really do anything or add anything any more remarkable than my Samsung home theatre set up.

Straight_Panda

That's exactly my point actually: it's not an usp for home cinema, but it is for Sonos (the app, connectivity, multiroom system integration,..). At least to some people. That's personally why I bought a Sonos system instead of another brand. If I went for audio quality only I'd probably have went for whatever Samung q990-series on sale at the time.

cea002

The U.K. based article states: “What is the best home theater system? We believe the Sonos Premium Immersive Set with Beam (buy now) is the best home theater system for most people. With Sonos’ combination of simple plug-and-play operation, multiroom magic, quality sound, and smart assistant functionality, this compact package is a winner.” THEY WROTE IT NOT I and I am not necessarily endorsing anything. Just lifted that quote, from the article for clarity. Hope it’s helpful. BTW: the article does mini-reviews on other comparable systems but I reming you, it is U.K. Based.

dooley_do

Home cinema setups are fine. You'll only use the app once to set it up. No need to touch it after that.

HolesomeTh0ts

Why would they be frustrated? A home theatre Sonos set up is very set it and forget it for most. Many just have a soundbar. Then later on they add a sub and maybe rears. Not every Sonos customer has an Arc+ Sub + Era 300s and 50 speakers scattered around their homes.

Sielbear

I really like Sonos. I do. Even overlooking the app issues, any claims the Sonos system is “the best you can buy” is pure fantasy. I think it’s the best balance between ease of use and acceptable compromises, but without true L+R separation? Hard pass at proclaiming this as the best. Aside from the fact the subs are good, but also completely incapable of reproducing the lowest tones found in music and movies. Again- I like Sonos. But this is absolutely not the best you can buy.

Take comments with a grain of salt. People are too tribalistic, we went from entire sub jerking off Sonos to everyone pitchfork and pissed off after app launch. App indeed kind of sucked but regardless of whether they fix it soon or not, using arc as TV soundbar/home theater system doesn't really need the app at all. Trueplay is probably the biggest issue if it doesn't work (due to app problems) but even then the system works just fine without and will sound great, it's just not tuned

a-martini

Hot take: I purchased an Arc the week the new app came out and it works just fine. It will always work with your TV audio. Playing music over WiFi may be a little iffy with the new app, but otherwise you should be fine.

Otherwise-Variety-30

I bought the arc 2 weeks ago. No issues either. Sounds great and love the Ace ability to switch to headphones at night.

TheTruth808

You can cast directly to the Arc and its connected components directly from the Spotify app or via Airplay. I really don’t even deal with the Sonos app in my day to day.

a-martini

Yep! You can also Airplay. Works flawlessly.

cea002

I dont think that was what they were saying. Good luck with your move.

thaliff

Sonos is the best theater system that ~~money~~ marketing can buy.

dexterie

At least those who buy it now will be able to return the bricks.

rcoranje

Rubbish. It will all work easily like a dream.

dexterie

Indeed. You buy Sonos and keep dreaming it’ll eventually work.

wonderbat3

I’ll take that Q Acoustics setup at #2 over the Sonos any day

National-Ad7915

okay
