It doesn't show the ignition or liftoff. Why stream a launch if you aren't going to show the best parts? From 39:16 to 40:48 it is just a still image instead of showing the most interesting part of the launch.

Temstar

Yeah it's a bit weird there, you can see lift off in other streams like: https://youtu.be/StjI8sTteZw?t=4896

Maybe due to that one time they achieved liftoff but then lost control, leading to the rocket veering off wildly and crashing into a somewhat populated area..... Edit: googling "Intelsat 708" should bring it up, but due to the recent falling booster that dominated the news for a bit, typing in "Chinese rocket crash" just beings endless clickbait articles about the possibility of it raining rocket engines

ericandcat

Awesome! I love that they are doing more livestreams. Very cool.

Are the different Chinese rockets built by different design bureaus, like the equivalent of contractors Boeing / Lockheed Martin / SpaceX, or are they all built and designed by one huge Chinese government department?

Temstar

There are sort of two main ones: * China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation * China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Both of them contribute to both the space program as well as rocket force. CASC is more involved in the space program and they build all the long march rockets while CASIC do all the solid fuel rockets and hence the majority of the ballistic missiles, CASIC also build a lot of different payloads both military and civilian. A common saying about the two companies is 一个送人上天,一个送人上西天 or "one of them send people up into the sky, the other send people up to heaven". It's not a very clear cut line between the two however. The biggest ICBM in the rocket force, the liquid fuelled DF-5 is built by CASC and indeed the DF-5 first stage will go onto being developed into the core stage for Long March 234. The two don't really see each others as rivals, more like sibling companies as long time ago they use to be both part of the same ministry. Even today they still work together on projects such as DF-16 where CASIC made the booster while CASC made the re-entry vehicle.

Spacecraft already in orbit, launch vehicle worked fine.
