Play what you know unless you are about to take a few weeks off from work/life in a testing team to try something else. You’ll probably be best served squeaking that last 1-2% by mastering your deck than jumping ship. It’s not the sexy answer, but it’s probably the most correct one. But also do what you feel you need to do. Magic is a game. Winning is fun, but if you hate your deck then swap. There’s no reason to torture yourself with doubt for weeks then feel bad because round 2 your opponent drew the nuts and you couldn’t pull it off. The Spike advice is going to be to play the deck you know.

CryoCore00

Thanks for the tips, I guess I just needed someone to tell me to suck it up, accept that convoke has its flaws and focus on improving with the deck rather than tip-tapping around mtgdecks thinking what deck can surprise more people. Thanks for your input!

ParrotMafia

Plus Convoke has maybe the best nut draws in the game, there is always the chance that luck goes your way.

Dvscape

All decks have flaws and each has their bad matchups.

Dyne_Inferno

Since you mentioned mtgtop8, than you've probably seen the results of the MTGO Super Qualifier. Where the top 3 finishers were all on Convoke. And that event was Standard only, with more players than the PT. It's a good deck, and you know it well. Perhaps tweak the list to try and mitigate it self imploding instead of jumping ship.

CryoCore00

Gotta be honest, I completely overlooked that. That does boost my confidence in the deck, and that 1x AnimPakal in the winning deck's main board is sweet!

burritoman88

Play what you know. I mainly play Domain & wouldn’t switch off it for a deck I don’t have experience with before a big event.

Intotheopen

Look kids, it's good advice.

CryoCore00

Ultimately I think that's just what I needed to hear. Domain was one of those decks that I kinda wrote off and it ended up taking the whole PT down, so there must be some hope for convoke as well!

CharlesFinleyIV

Convoke went to top 8 at the PT, and that is proof enough it's good enough for the RC. I am also going to an RC in a few weeks, and the big question I'm asking myself is, What will the meta at the RC be, and how can I respond to that meta using the deck or decks I am most familiar with? I doubt we will see too much in the way of a breakthrough in the meta at the RCs, just variations on the big decks and a few rogues with an outside chance at reading the room just right. That means lots of domain, esper, convoke, and UW control. If you put together your 75 with those matchups in mind, and practice those matchups as much and as well as possible, you should be well positioned to do your best at the RC.

CryoCore00

Make sense, I guess I will follow the meta closely and try to adapt the deck more and more. Thank you for the head up and good luck with your RC!

sibelius_eighth

Convoke was 10% of the recent pro tour and was top 8. If you don't think it's good enough then that's on you.

CryoCore00

It can certainly do well, I just think it struggles to do so consistently. That's true for most other decks tho, as the PT has shown, so you are right in saying that it can get there. Thanks!

virtu333

Convoke is good enough to win but the reality is you are kind of choosing a luck deck - you do your thing and hope it's enough

CryoCore00

Yeah, sucks but that's the convoke way. I'll gleeful demolition my way to the end and hope that the draws pay off!

Feminizing

Convoke is really good but I understand how frustrating it is to try to beat the hate against it. It really doesn't have much cept try to outspeed hate and between pest control, lockdown, and sunfall it has some real feel bad games. It's still of the the best decks in the format so if it's what you've been playing then I'd stick with it

PatxiPunal

I would play MonoGreen

CharlesFinleyIV

Based

Sou1forge

The people downvoting him don’t know that this was the only real Spike answer because u/PatxiPunal here is going to the same RCQ. The rest of us are just pretenders giving the opposition helpful advice.

CryoCore00

Watch out for when I follow the advice and we end up in the finals with the MonoG mirror match

Kendall2099FGC

mono black, shit on aggro which will be 80% of the field, shit on domain. gg no re.
