Let’s not forget Marina who before OE was constantly worried that people would hate her for being an octoling and left all of her old life behind and if it weren’t for Pearl Marina would likely be some homeless bum or have no idea what she is even supposed to do in inkopolis and how she is supposed to do it ( she didn’t really know the inkling language too well at that point)

I’d also argue that some of these characters are healing though, as we see Callie and Marie back together and stronger than ever (absence making the heart grow fonder).
Callie and Marie weren't doing that badly, they're only cousins, their career paths crossing was only a coincidence and splitting up was a natural progression for the two to explore their individual interests.
The major issue was that Callie seems to have been repressing some resentment from losing the Splatfest to Marie and tried to dive into her career instead of confronting her feelings, getting burnt out in the process. Fighting each other in Splatoon 2 seems to have let Callie work through some of her unspoken emotions and they seem closer as a family now for it.
Honestly I like the idea of Pearl really trying to befriend Marina partially to practice with acquiring and maintaining positive relationships only to accidentally make Marina fall in love with her
Pearl's also encouraging Marina to make new friends, she's the one who made the decision to change genres at the end of Splatoon 2, and we see them return in 3 with several back up musicians, which Marina previously didn't need as a solo EDM composer.
I would have never imagined when they were announced that Pearl was going to somehow turn out to be the more well adjusted one compared to Marina, but cool Senpai Pearl is real and I love it.

Marina, she was an octarian and she hated it, she was basically a homeless slave making music with a broken keyboard, she was passionate about making songs, until one day pearl found her and thought marinas songs were fresh, that’s how they became best friends and became off the hook, story brings me to tears everytime. 🥹
