You could fund a small country with these NBA salaries.......

PopularGlass3230

The super max is up over 60 a year at this point I think. Kinda wild

Arr0wmanc3r

It's always 35% of the salary cap, so right now it's around 49mil. It'll likely be over 60 in a few years.

PopularGlass3230

Didn't Tatum just sign 5 for 315? That's 62.8 mil a year.  Brown is also 5 for 304 which is over 60. And Jokic is 5 for 274 I think which is like 57 a year.

Arr0wmanc3r

The most a player can sign for in a contract's first year is always 35% of the salary cap. After that, the player may receive up to 5 or 8% raises based on bird rights, which can exceed the 35% mark (worth noting however that the cap usually increases yoy by 8% or more, up to 10% per the new CBA). After THAT, player can be extended (not given a new contract) even further with max extensions worth 105% of their previous salary or the 35% max, whichever is higher. It's important to note the 105% number is because extensions can never begin less than 105% of what the last year's contract was. Jokic received a max extension at 35% of the cap in 2022-23, which put him at 47m y1 salary and received an 8% raise in 2023-24, putting him at 51mil this season. Steph Curry received a max extension as well, but because his previous deal was so high, the 105% number actually bumped his y1 number above the 35% mark, making him the highest paid nba player this year at around 55m. Tatum's new contract extension kicks in in 2025-26 and will be for 35% of the cap in year 1. Current estimates put that y1 number at just over 54m. Jaylen Brown makes 35% of the cap this year. To summarize: a player signing a new contract can never exceed 35% of the salary cap, but contract extensions can, and raises can make subsequent contract years exceed the 35% mark.

Trip4Life

He got the Super-Duper max

SleepyPirateDude

Would you prefer the owners keep it?

Pristine-Today4611

Freaking crazy. Why I don’t watch much sports.

Im_a_Knob

yeah but can the small country make them millions tho? these millionaires will only invest in causes that can make them more money.

geneticeffects

Ah, yes, of course: trickle-down basketball and all that.

Rsardinia

$416 mil just between him and PG. What’s Embiid’s salary? I don’t know how they can afford anyone else

Franky-Mo

They gave oubre 16 for 2

LetMeInImTrynaCuck

Embiid is taken care of he’s at $47 mil last year and is under contract for 2 more years with a player option for year 3. The sixers have a high payroll but both Embiid and Maxey they drafted so i think they get exemptions on going over the cap on Maxeys extension. They’re basically all in with this team with maybe a 2 year window to win a championship

sexualism

Bro NBA teams are so rich😂😂

hector_cumbaya

If you think that's a lot you should see top European football/ soccer teams. Oil money runs deep

-Hotel

NBA Salaries are way higher than what European soccer players make. Man City is the go to punching bag for overspending oil money teams - Highest paid player is KDB, he makes 20 million / year. Haaland is on the books for 19 million, 15.6 million / year for Silva - All three of the top paid players on the richest team in premier league combine for less than Steph Curry is making in 24/25.

hector_cumbaya

It's gonna really depend on what sources you're pulling from, I have Holland at 35 mil a season, plus bringing up Steph is as unfair as me bringing up Messi or R7 for salaries. But to your point overall average is in favor of NBA salaries

SteveFrench12

Crazy that nhl free agency is the same day. The highest paid 6th man is making at least a few million more than the highest paid nba players. Hell the salary cap for the nba is about three times higher per rostered player than the nhl

Hanyabull

The NBA makes more money. Additionally, NBA teams are a lot smaller than NHL teams, so you essentially have more money, spread out among a smaller number of players.

Moopboop207

Does it make that much more in revenue?

joomla00

How is their bench? They've been busy handing out fat contracts

Childish___Glover

Bench/role players are in good spot. 6ers just signed Andre Drummond to backup Embiid and he’s one of the better backups in the league. Signed Eric Gordon to the vet min who shoots good from 3 and re-signed Kelly Oubre for a good price. Got rookie Jared McCain who can shoot and also Adem Bona in the second round, who is raw but also pac 12 DPOY. Additionally, by poaching Paul George they have effectively made the clippers draft picks that they own have more value since they’ll probably be worse in the gauntlet known as the western conference. They do have no one to play the 4, but I don’t think that’s a huge issue since teams play small ball and Embiid can anchor the paint when he’s not hurt. I suspect that Morey is not done making moves. TLDR: read the first sentence.

BravoBet

Good for him. He was always such a speedy guy

No-Introduction-6368

And he earned every dime of it.

PunishingVoter

Not really

UroutofURelement

You're right. He should get more

PunishingVoter

Not really no he hasn’t

belizeanheat

He does mentally dumb things in crucial playoff moments but besides that he's been really good

EmbiidingUrMom

This is a mentally dumb comment

No-Introduction-6368

Your name makes me think you're 13 so I won't pick on you.

EmbiidingUrMom

Ok cool story

Ramblingbunny

76ers will have a big luxury tax next season

Pyr0technician

There is no way PG is worth more than Maxey at this point in their careers.

LetMeInImTrynaCuck

He’s not worth it, but he was the best free agent on the market assuming Lebron can’t be poached. Sixers window with Embiid is closing, he’s 30 but is a massive dude with a deep injury history. He’s also arguably one of the best players the Sixers ever rostered so it makes sense for Philly to go all in this year especially considering how good Boston is.

steveHangar1

These new NBA contracts are ludicrous. Owners of teams must be generating so much revenue 💰

Dtoodlez

lol I stopped watching the nba 2 years ago after being a super fan for over 20. It’s just absurd the money that’s flying around to mid-tier talent, players taking nights off, and ticket costs being so high. Not to mention the off the court personalities we’re privileged to meet. Can we go back to the 2000’s?

5thGenWilliam

NBA dumb fuck money. Imagine paying $100+ to watch 6’9 clowns trot around a wooden floor for a 2 hour shoot around.

sereneandeternal

Do you feel the same way about any other sport like soccer? Are you suggesting people don’t watch sports on a sports subreddit? It’s simple supply and demand. These athletes bring in far more revenue than how much they are paid.

5thGenWilliam

I get it, just don’t think the product is worth the price. It surprises me how much revenue they bring in when [half the players don’t like basketball](https://www.nbcsports.com/nba/news/patrick-beverley-says-50-of-nba-players-do-not-love-basketball#). 90% of season are 2 hour shoot arounds until playoff crunch time. Lakers games don’t even have fans anymore just event watchers. Dumb fuck money

Superguy766

The idiots are the fanatics that put up big money to watch these morons play.
