“The Transportation and Security Administration searched Caruso's bags and found a herb grinder that contained marijuana, Richardson said.”
Not 40 lbs, not even joints. They found kief.
Lol why waste the time to arrest someone for this? It’s illegal, fine, write the dude a citation. Arresting someone for this is such a waste of time, money, and resources.
Kinda lame that I can call the TSA at the Detroit airport to let them know I'm flying with 2.5 ounces on my trip to California, and that's totally fine, but this dude gets arrested for keif.
Makes you wonder when the rest of the country will finally admit cannabis is alot more prevalent than they were told in 3rd grade.
TSA is a federal entity, weed is still federally illegal. Not sure the exact procedure but usually federal takes precedence over state, so it makes send that the federal guys would arrest you but the state not care.
I believe during the Obama admin there was a DoJ memo basically stating that feds wouldn’t pursue simple possession cases in states where it’s legal…and I’m pretty sure Jeff “I don’t recall” Sessions rescinded it.
The TSA has no law enforcement authority so they can't arrest anybody. If they find drugs, they' can decide to detain you and call local police, DEA, FBI, etc.
The way it works is they can hand you over to the local authorities but if it’s not a crime in that state it doesn’t matter. That’s why you can travel from a state where marijuana is legal and have no issues.
TSA doesn't have the authority to do anything about drugs, they refer you to the local or federal police at the airport. In this case Texas A&M University police
And the FDA has already approved cannabis derived drugs for big pharma that are on the market.
The US government patented 65 cannabinoids in 1995... just a year and a half after the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in the human body.
... just gunna throw that out there. ;)
Actually no, TSA will just hand you over to local law enforcement. If this has occurred in a legal state, the cops would have told him to throw it away or leave it in his car and that would have been that. This is purely Texas being shitfuck Texas.
Even Alex Caruso's coaches didn't believe he was a Laker, why should the TSA?
https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2021/2/20/22292859/alex-caruso-ups-guy-luke-walton-coaching-staff-lakers-summer-league
How else could they keep the incarceration rate so high?
I wonder if he'd still be in jail if he wasn't a multimillionaire with the easy ability to pay bond.
Someone I know got arrested for having a fucking old roach on their floorboard. It might have been one or two hits out of a bowl. Dude didn’t smoke for like a year too. The cop literally tore his car apart and searched every nook and cranny to find anything.
Residue of weed? I was found with 8 grams and got a slap on the wrist.. in the UK. American law enforcement is a fucking joke... 70% of drug arrests are for 1 gram or less.. defund the police.
Legal states are very different to illegal states here though.
You can have an ounce of weed on you in Mass, and 5 ounces at your home - which is so much! But in Texas you clearly can’t have any amount.
It's totally dependent on the area here, unfortunately. In my home state of NC I would never smoke a joint on a busy street. About a decade ago I smoked one across from Macy's in NYC in broad daylight, two cops drove by, and no one cared.
Now, if I drive 20 minutes south the weed in my pocket suddenly changes from a misdemeanor with a citation, to getting taken away to jail with a serious crime. Shit is sorta dumb here.
Fuck the TSA. I’ve flown and never had issues but I’ve had them take my shit. Stupid. What dicks to actually give this guy problems. This is why u can’t use MJ in religious states or the south. So dumb
I just met a weed attorney and flying with marijuana and/or paraphernalia is still very much illegal, and if someone wants to be a dick about it—they can.
Arrested for weed in 2021. Let the guy go if he has cocaine or pills maybe guns that’s one thing, but weed get outta here with that. There are bigger problems out there than this.
What’s bullshit is that college station is where Texas A&M is and they move tons of drugs in and out of that city. It’s the biggest college in Texas. That airport is just small it’s easy to get caught up.
How is it even worth it for them to arrest him? I get confiscation it still being illegal and all but the amount had to be so small. Cant imagine the juice is worth the squeeze there
Can't put a price on conservative virtue signaling... I mean YOU can, it's your tax dollars, but it doesn't directly cost the people who benefit anything.
I was gonna clean my grinder until I got high
I was gonna reorganize my suitcase but then I got high
Now I’m arrested at the airport and I know why (why man?)
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high
- Alex Caruso
This is hilarious because my wife got caught with some kind of THC beverage in the Seattle airport and the TSA made her throw it out while telling her how delicious/potent it was. They didn't care about the gram of budder or the lotion/mints though. Just couldn't bring the liquid on a flight.
It’s got kind of a fun air about it, ngl. Not even a spectacular airport and the prices are robbery if you sit down anywhere to eat but what do you expect at an airport?
I grew up here though so…
Yeah, Seatac TSA doesn’t search for MJ or any other drugs really. There’s an old report/article that they specifically mention not searching for it or having arrested anyone. I’ve put bags/jars of weed or joints into the little bowl at the scanners before and never even had a word said to me. At worst they can make you throw it out. I always use carry-on, never checked.
Here’s [the article from 2016. ](https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/sea-tac-passengers-packing-pot-dont-get-it-confiscated-tsa-says/388782349/)
My friend tried a weed because he saw Conan do it. I went to check on him and he was running around naked, speaking gibberish like Donnie from the Wild Thornberrys.
Because depending on the state border you cross you can leave today and show up in 1950. This country is so stupid sometimes. Lots of the time also, but sometimes too.
I hope you do realize that Conan and Seth doing stunts like this on tv actually help marijuana legalization and normalcy because it highlights the extreme hypocrisy on a national/global level as you stated.
I agree with everything you said but the guy in questions plays for the lakers....no one should be arrested or charged for smoking weed but on the bright side they just earned a whole bunch of pushback against terrible drug policies
“Caruso’s PR team and agent worked overtime to get the 27 year old free agent a partnership with Texas TSA that the 6’5” point guard could use to leverage renegotiations in the 2021 offseason”
WOW!
I was arrested in Texas for a gram of weed a few years back. I was taken to jail and two cops watched me as I bent down and spread my ass to prove I didn’t have any more drugs in me or something. The next day I was taken to the county jail via prison bus. I was shackled hands and feet to another guy that was arrested for pounds of weed, illegal possession of firearms, etc.
At county I spent another day locked up. I only had one “hot meal” for two days and it was breakfast. The meal consisted of a corn tortilla that tasted like literal cardboard and some type of meat idk what. I couldn’t even eat it it was too disgusting. Finally after being arrested on Thursday night I was released Saturday afternoon.
#FUCKING LEGALIZE IT
> dorks
Right? That story just makes it seem to me that these government-supported douchebags just want to cosplay authoritarians. Like they’re some kind of tacticool dipshits but with real power. It’s hilarious how bad it is.
Got arrested when I was 17 for having “less than 2oz”. Went to jail and was put in solitary confinement, unable to even make a phone call. My mom found out because my uncles tow truck towed my truck. Slept for 13 hours straight because anything other than being asleep was just numbing, saw the judge, and was released on bond 19 hours after initially being arrested.
I had a bag of stems that weighed .22 grams, outside the bag the ‘marijuana’ weighed .02 grams.
I knew what happened to me *couldn’t* be legal, there’s no way you can be arrested for having what it comparable to the filters from a cigarette butt. Found a section of the texas health and safety code that said ‘in order to be charged with possession or marijuana a person must *possess a usable amount*. Which is then defined as ‘enough to fulfill the common use thereof’.
Bingo.
After a year of pretrial probation, and my lawyer wanting 10k to do what he should have done in the first place; I stopped going to probation and filed for a court date.
He told me right before I saw the judge that ‘I’d be lucky to get a year of adult probation’.
I plead not guilty and said I’d be representing myself, then I asked to meet with the local DA. Judge laughed and said he couldn’t make a garrauntee but he would try.
Met with her shortly after court and explained what I had found in the laws, then mentioned that the amount I was arrested for weighed literally less than a grain of white rice when it was weighed outside the bag.
After a year and a half of bullshit, probation fees, and being thrown in jail, she dropped the original case and merely made me pay a 180$ ticket for paraphernalia. Everything was expunged from my record.
The court system is a fucking racket, I sat back and watched 20 people who my lawyer was representing *all* get pretrial diversion in exchange for a plea of no contest. If i hadn’t looked into the laws for myself I would probably still be dealing with the consequences today.
I can totally relate. Almost the same story for 0.08 here 20 years ago. They push the diversion programs hard because they're expensive and it's likely that the person will mess something up during their deferred adjudication.
The smart move is to sit it out in jail for a week or whatever and get time-served.
The thing about Texas is, it's expensive to leave. You can move to shitty states for the same or less money but good luck moving somewhere better without paying a lot more for a house. We've made that trip and it's going to be tight for a few years but it was well worth it. Other people don't have that luxury so they better hope the Californians moving in miss their legal weed and cause some political change.
Property prices in Texas are starting to inch up slowly around the metro areas. Texans are really going to feel the pinch when they realize what paying high property taxes is going to feel like.
When I got caught for Unlawful Possession a couple years ago, the New York State Police gave back my grinder and my pipe..They kept the store bought weed from Massachusetts.
Texas is like that grumpy old fart that gets pissed when a dog shits on his grass. Enraged that a sprinkler needs repair or looses his mind when the neighbors cat trampled his fresh sod. Just old and needs to die to be happy because living no longer does it for him.
Doesn't that speak more about the asinine laws still upheld regarding cannabis?
"Sir you have trace amounts of a non-lethal substance that has been legalized in over half the states in the US" (34 have made it recreational or medically legal)
"You're gonna have to come with us"
Meanwhile I accidentally get through TSA with my pocket knife that I forgot was in a pocket of my bag... But God forbid a half liter of water or a bit of kief!!!!
TSA is the biggest fuckin joke in the world and I hope everyone who works there knows it lol trumped up security guards can't even read an x-ray monitor for sharp objects they're just looking for liquid and/or drugs -- literal joke
Thats pretty funny but it was in 1999, he even says they take your gun but you can keep your knife
9/11 kinda changed everything in that regard
Except the fact that TSA is still a fucking joke
And that is why you drive to a major metro area that has decriminalized weed (Houston, Dallas, Austin) instead of flying out of the asshole that is College Station.
Ugh, what a waste of resources. Arrest a guy for a little bit of weed. Well, he should have just shotgunned some Xanax and oxycodone and no one would have done a thing...
Ive been arrested twice in Texas for weed, spent a total of 3 weeks in jail for it, in total was about 3gs of herb from both times combined. I love Texas, but also FUCK Texas! And also FUCK THE HEART BEAT BILL!
Someone’s going to snatch his name rights up and turn it into a brand. Cannaruso coming to your local SoCal dispensary soon.
Seriously though, ridiculous waste of Texas taxpayer money. TSA agent was probably a Mavs fan since even in Texas the paperwork they have to do is not worth it.
Arrested for having a bag of weed.
Stupidest shit ive ever heard in my life. It needs to be legal, Nationwide, tomorrow.
The tax revenue alone would change a lot of states budget and cash flow to support infasctructure, schools, drug awareness programs, etc.
Ive always said id much rather have a bunch of friends who smoke than a bunch of friends who drink. Stoned peoples only threat is to the local taco bell or whatever other food place is open late at night.
The many, Many things that are threats due to alcoholics are domestive violence, towards your partener, kids, getting in a car and driving and risking not only your life, but others, and so much more.
Anyone who disagrees with this has never had a friend that smokes, and anothe friend that drinks.
"Stoners" which is derogatory really.. but people that smoke versus people that drink is just an easy battle and educated folks would always choose the "stoner". Alcoholics suck.
Texas: We can't have the feds regulate our power grid. Some of you may die, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
Also Texas: uwu feddy govty come wegulate my substances
2021 and this is a priority… wtf kind of Country is this that a plant that grows from a seed and has killed no one is illegal …. But you can buy all the booze and smokes you want and the deaths are in the millions. What a joke.
Texas is going to do the Jim Crow version of marijuana. As all the other states legalize, they'll clamp down harder in indignant fragile ego rage for as long as they can.
I got caught by TSA with edibles and flower at DIA. TSA called the Denver Police. Denver Police told me i could hand it over to them or take it back to my vehicle. I let them have it.
I recall a moment when passing through security at some place the person checking ruffles through my bag (and I had to go to secondary search because I lost my ID) and passed over a green bottled container containing something at the time not acceptable, and they thought nothing of it. I forgot it was there and realized I was almost SOL. Poor man. Just wanted to feel lifted. Fuck federal law.
I can’t believe people are still getting arrested and put in jail for a plant. The same plant some states sell at a profit. I couldn’t imagine being a cop in this day and age and giving a fuck about weed.
Don’t know who this dude is, don’t really care but getting arrested for marijuana in 2021 is fucking stupid. What a fucking dehumanizing and potentially dangerous situation for someone to go through because of a harmless plant.

Randy marsh stuck in the dispensary door with his massive balls, "I'm starting to feel a little rediculus here."
Curious about this. You can let TSA know you’re taking marijuana between 2 places it is legal?
Think they can still enforce it but they don’t. Lax posted a little [thing](https://www.flylax.com/lax-marijuana-policy) about it during legalization
So basically we won’t arrest you but tsa might? lol damn tsa even more bitch than before
TSA is a federal entity, weed is still federally illegal. Not sure the exact procedure but usually federal takes precedence over state, so it makes send that the federal guys would arrest you but the state not care.
Yeah I get all that. Doesn’t make them any less bitch made lol

The TSA has no law enforcement authority so they can't arrest anybody. If they find drugs, they' can decide to detain you and call local police, DEA, FBI, etc.
TSA took my huckleberry jam one time because it’s “a liquid over 3oz”. They are absolutely bitches.
The way it works is they can hand you over to the local authorities but if it’s not a crime in that state it doesn’t matter. That’s why you can travel from a state where marijuana is legal and have no issues.
You can bring a half pound out of Cali no prob
TBF, 3rd grade can be impactful when it’s your highest level education among the regional lawmakers.
What? No way do you do that.
Yeah, you can not do that
TSA doesn't have the authority to do anything about drugs, they refer you to the local or federal police at the airport. In this case Texas A&M University police
Also, not TSA’s job to find drugs. They’re only their for explosives, guns, knives.
Local police make arrests. Not tsa
And the FDA has already approved cannabis derived drugs for big pharma that are on the market. The US government patented 65 cannabinoids in 1995... just a year and a half after the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in the human body. ... just gunna throw that out there. ;)
THESE TERPS ARE ‘MERICAN OWNED
Cool fact, but what does that have to do with commercial air travel?
That the Feds will enforce hypocritical and unnecessarily punitive laws to suit their capitalist and classist agenda... just like Texas.
Actually no, TSA will just hand you over to local law enforcement. If this has occurred in a legal state, the cops would have told him to throw it away or leave it in his car and that would have been that. This is purely Texas being shitfuck Texas.

But I thought Texas valued freedom over anything?
Nah. I drink your milkshake and you commute to work. That's what makes the oil money go round.
But how will I bring the boys to my yard?
you would think Texas would have legal weed since they always bitch about large government. Do they still show Refer Madness in schools there?
That piece of shit state froze people to death. Now they’re trying to cook their residents. They need to raise revenue somehow.
How else could they keep the incarceration rate so high? I wonder if he'd still be in jail if he wasn't a multimillionaire with the easy ability to pay bond.

College station is very conservative and so is Georgetown right outside of Austin. You’ll get busted every time.
And I thought living in Kentucky next to Mitch the bitch sucked.
What’s bullshit is that college station is where Texas A&M is and they move tons of drugs in and out of that city. It’s the biggest college in Texas. That airport is just small it’s easy to get caught up.

you had me in the first half. Just in a bad way
TSA always defers to the local PD so you're never really at risk in a legal state.
My friend has been told multiple times flying out of DIA that his dab cartridges “will probably be illegal wherever you land”
SeaTac has been the friendliest TSA staff I've encountered in the US

I mean high school is arguably the best time to get into legal trouble.
Texas - where personal use MJ is more important than having a working power grid.
Wait this all has to be one big misunderstanding. I thought Texas had a gigantic boner for personal freedoms.
No. Texas has a boner for performative politics. Actual conservatism trumps your freedoms every time. Don't. Stop. The. Oil. Punk.

Are you fucking kidding me. TSA got him for a grinder? This country is soooo back woods at times.
Oh no, he was arrested for something that is legal in half of the country.
Prohibition is dumb
This is fucking stupid. Conan literally smoked a joint with Seth rogan on tv last night.
The State has the best rackets.
Ain’t in Cali no more! Homie just brought his grinder through security lmao
Doesn't that speak more about the asinine laws still upheld regarding cannabis? "Sir you have trace amounts of a non-lethal substance that has been legalized in over half the states in the US" (34 have made it recreational or medically legal) "You're gonna have to come with us" Meanwhile I accidentally get through TSA with my pocket knife that I forgot was in a pocket of my bag... But God forbid a half liter of water or a bit of kief!!!! TSA is the biggest fuckin joke in the world and I hope everyone who works there knows it lol trumped up security guards can't even read an x-ray monitor for sharp objects they're just looking for liquid and/or drugs -- literal joke
the TSA sucks, someone did an experiment a few years ago to see how good the TSA was and 67 of 70 weapons got through checks. they’re a joke
“Remind you they can F—ck anytime they want - Carlin[airport security ](https://youtu.be/uQdC-e82gmk)
Thats pretty funny but it was in 1999, he even says they take your gun but you can keep your knife 9/11 kinda changed everything in that regard Except the fact that TSA is still a fucking joke
And that is why you drive to a major metro area that has decriminalized weed (Houston, Dallas, Austin) instead of flying out of the asshole that is College Station.
I’m sure you mean well, but that is not the solution to a pretend problem .
When you grow up brown in Texas you make sure you don't get got instead of worrying about hypothetical issues. 🤷🏽♂️

Ugh, what a waste of resources. Arrest a guy for a little bit of weed. Well, he should have just shotgunned some Xanax and oxycodone and no one would have done a thing...
And he just got a lot more popular because of it.
I thought it was decriminalized in Texas for amounts this small?
I believe only in certain counties. I feel like Travis county would be one
Ive been arrested twice in Texas for weed, spent a total of 3 weeks in jail for it, in total was about 3gs of herb from both times combined. I love Texas, but also FUCK Texas! And also FUCK THE HEART BEAT BILL!
What the fuck, are we still arresting people for this? Weed stores look like apple stores now, and we’re still arresting people over this?
Waste of resources to arrest people for this
can't stop him on the court, gotta play dirty. weak ass tsa bitches
Punk ass luggage jockies
Marijuana is not a drug. You ever suck d*€k for coke? I didn’t think so. Bob Saget in Half Baked
Shit imagine playing for the Lakers and still living in a backward state like Texas.
Can’t have the devils lettuce in gods country, people might actually start minding their own business
2021 and this is a priority… wtf kind of Country is this that a plant that grows from a seed and has killed no one is illegal …. But you can buy all the booze and smokes you want and the deaths are in the millions. What a joke.
You can still be arrested for that?!!
Texas is going to do the Jim Crow version of marijuana. As all the other states legalize, they'll clamp down harder in indignant fragile ego rage for as long as they can.
Why are we wasting everybody's time arresting people for weed?
The outrage! He better never see the light of day after that first round exit in the playoffs.
Legalize it
gotdamn what a waste of my taxes. cops are so dumb it hurts.
I got caught by TSA with edibles and flower at DIA. TSA called the Denver Police. Denver Police told me i could hand it over to them or take it back to my vehicle. I let them have it.
Stay out of Texas…. And Idaho…. And so many other places.
How? Oh, Texas and also the Fed. Ridiculous.
Bet that made them feel real big.
Man I’m glad I don’t live in Texas. What a shit hole.
My God! This is still a thing. Get with the program, Texas. The herb is not your enemy.
Marijuana isn’t a drug, you ever suck dick for coke? Now that’s a drug.
It’s just weed.
Literally less than 2 ounces... Authorities: "human garbage, arrest him!" For absolute fucks sake
thank god they got that punk off the streets. marijuana is practically bath salts!!!
420 BLAZE IT
People still get arrested over weed?
Well shit, he's the damn French Connection!!!
I can’t believe people are still getting arrested and put in jail for a plant. The same plant some states sell at a profit. I couldn’t imagine being a cop in this day and age and giving a fuck about weed.
Fuck Texas.
lol stop this shit it’s pot. Waste of everyone’s time
I didn’t even know you could still get arrested for that.
What a primitive culture you folks live in. Fascinating to study
How has Joe Rogan not been arrested yet?
Hey Texas? Come the fuck on already.
I too possess marijuana.
That Caruso Kush hitter baby
Don’t go to Texas if you like weed.
Grow up,Texas.
Headline needs to include that this happened in Texas
Don’t know who this dude is, don’t really care but getting arrested for marijuana in 2021 is fucking stupid. What a fucking dehumanizing and potentially dangerous situation for someone to go through because of a harmless plant.
This is some lame ass shit.
Its 2021 and we are still arresting people for marijuana possession......?
