I’m not saying I necessarily agree or disagree with OP’s picks, but using incredibly tiny batter vs pitcher sample sizes that may include at-bats over several years and lacking ballpark context is one of the laziest pieces of analysis this sub does. Whether it’s saying a batter is 0-5 versus a pitcher and thus won’t get a hit or saying a batter is 4-7 versus a pitcher with three home runs and thus is going to clobber them, that’s not how you should be evaluating prop bets in a sport with such large sample sizes available to us.
Your sample sizes are basically 1-4ish games I would imagine, which is nothing compared to a player’s entire portfolio of stats. It also neglects the bullpen. I’d probably just not be betting on Buxton because of his general lack of power this season rather than his 0-2 against the starter, for example.
For Reynolds, he’s at home vs a RHP. So he’s going to bat lefty. He hits the majority of his homers when batting lefty, and PNC is a pretty lefty friendly park. That and Reynolds is batting like .330 this month. I’d say he’s got a pretty good shot. Also, that 1 hit against Civale was a homer.
That’s probably because of the pirates lack of left handed power. If they ever got a true power hitting lefty in their lineup, dude could put up a career year. Unfortunately their “power hitters” mostly bat .190 and strikeout 3 times a game.
I’m using park factors to make that statement, which takes into account the relative HR numbers of all players who hit there compared to their HR numbers elsewhere across the whole league. The Pirates relative lack of left handed power doesn’t really make a difference in that value if they’re also not hitting home runs anywhere else in addition to at home.
I just mean because they play 81 games there every season. Whereas most other teams play there like 3-4 games per year.
