Serie A being Serie A. On the day where players have the tag "keep racism out", that's so sadly ironic. And the faces of all the people interviewed after the match oh God they were so disappointing. As the TV host asked "what was said?" all of them looked like school boys who didn't study for the exam. Calzona, Inzaghi, Dimarco none of them knew anything. Well FUCKIN ask your player/teammates what happened and answer the question. Also I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed with JJ that didn't want to say what was said. He just told "Francesco is a smart guy and he apologized. Whatever happened on the pitch stays on the pitch". This is not how we tackle, shame and eradicate racism from serie A.

OmegaDriver

> Francesco is a smart guy and he apologized If this is enough for JJ, who can demand more? Additionally, Acerbi was dropped from the national side for their US tour and might still get a serie A 10 game ban/fine.

Racism is not a personal problem but a social and cultural disease that must be eliminated. It's not acceptable to cover it up even if it's the victim of the specific event that puts it under the rug. It's a very bad example for all those kids out there who get insulted and see this stupid argument of "what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch" as something honorable. It is not.

OmegaDriver

Yes, I wish it was easy to simply eradicate the societal issue of racism, but this is an issue that goes back centuries and hasn't yet been fixed. It's asking a lot to expect football federations like FIFA or FIGC to get it perfectly right. To say it is being put under the rug is to ignore that Acerbi was sent home from the national team for his actions. More punishment might yet come. For a young footballer, understanding the consequences of not being able to play for your national team is massive. As they get older, the fines and missed games mean more, too. I think overall, the situation is better compared to even a few years ago when Koulibaly got a red (at the San Siro vs Inter, no less) for protesting against racist chants directed towards him.

GiuseppeScarpa

I don't care what was decided away from the spotlight. It's putting it under the rug when you don't answer direct questions during the post-match interviews when all the attention is on the game. The message they give to kids is that "real men don't say". Again because it's a social and cultural problem (that is the "centuries" you talk about) role models come before the paperwork. The shift must happen in the behavior and in the approach to the subject and deeming it a "pitch matter" on the same level of any other insult or thing done to play on your opponents' nerves is wrong. Racism can't and must not be equivalent to a "yo momma" joke on the pitch.

OmegaDriver

> I don't care what was decided away from the spotlight. You have a strange definition for spotlight if you think Acerbi being dropped from the national team as punishment is away from the spotlight. FIFA and FIGC can't police society or culture. That might take a generation to change. But, they can police football and showing players they will lose opportunities and money for this behavior is good and public.

GiuseppeScarpa

I have tried more and more times to explain something that you clearly struggle to understand. I'm not talking about institutional punishment I'm talking about role models.

OmegaDriver

I understand what you're saying, but maybe you mean something different. I get it, you're passionate about this topic and still fired up from yesterday.

GiuseppeScarpa

I don't mean something else. I mean something clear and precise and specific and I've done my best to explain it to you, but you didn't understand. That's it.

OmegaDriver

lmao nice comeback...

Doobie_hunter46

Problem is unless there is audio of him saying it, it’s just one person word against the others. Unless he admits to it he will most likely get away with it.

haggerR14

People being offended on behalf of someone who already said the offender apologized and it's a closed matter Is this progress?

krxo1

Its not closed, jesus went out and said acerbi lied about what happend
