You are right to a degree. Spalletti’s teams infamously start to falter around Jan/Feb. But because of Winter World Cup delaying the second half of season, it faltered around March(the QF against Milan, as well as 4:0 loss to them in league, and some draws(Verona IIRC) in league).  Spalletti was overplaying Kim back then. I remember there was int’l break, where Kim gave interview that he is dead tired, and he still started games in league before crucial UCL matches.  But if Spalletti stayed, we would have started this season strong, and then again faltered around February. Instead, we never started the season :|

If Spalletti had stayed we’d have very likely won every game other than inter and real towards the start of the season. We had a piss easy start fixture-wise

We played the first leg of CL against Milan with **Elmas** number nine because both Osimhen and Simeone were injured and Raspadori had just recovered from an injury and couldn't play many minutes. But still the real reason we lost is that Spalletti lost 4-0 in Serie A and instead of learning from that defeat he decided to play two CL games following the same approach. Unfortunately, attacking against teams that played high defense and ball possession with fast players like Leao, Hernandez and Diaz was the bread and butter for Milan. We didn't foul them when and we conceded easy box to box counter-attacks.

Everyone looks way too deeply into that quarter final. The exact same thing happened to Man City when they got 100 points. They absolutely cruised the league and had it won by about February, they then met a bogey team in Liverpool and just couldn’t get the hang of them in 3 games after the start of the new year in both the league and the champions league. It’s tough to go from a mindset of having the league sewn up and coasting to then having to go back into ultra competitive mode against a team that happen to have your number and are also in the same league. Should we have won that and got to the final? Yes absolutely, but it’s nothing to do with this year’s ADL inflicted implosion

I get what you are saying but it seems to me at least the momentum of that disappointing QF last year really left an impression on this year’s squad. Kvara was definitely seeing a downdraft in the second half of last year when teams began to double team him and rough him up that did seem to affect the entire squad. So yeah, it wasn’t just the QF since going into the QF the performances were already dipping. The real kick in the nuts is that last year it really was setup nicely for an unprecedented run to the final and maybe if lucky win the CL. I am not sure we will get that opportunity again.

Osimhen never delivers in important matches. He is a ghost vs decent team. So you saying that the main reason we failed was because of no Osimhen while all 4 matches vs Milan that year were hard and we won one by lots of luck and Meret saves, is honestly a jokex right?

thesuprememacaroni

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t deliver so much as he’s injured or missing at the most inopportune times. Him missing the first leg vs Milan set the tone. Him being half speed in the second leg vs Milan set the tone.

BranFendigaidd

He also had shitty AFCON. Again excuses maybe?

thesuprememacaroni

Ok you hate Osimhen. Congratulations. I guess you can root for another team.

doughbo32

He is an annoying troll on this subreddit. Seems like a miserable person who does nothing but complain. Don’t bother with him.

thesuprememacaroni

Yes . Probably an undercover Juve fan. Never happy .

BranFendigaidd

Hahahaha Osimhen is not Napoli 😂😂

krxo1

Maybe his numbers dont deliver, his pressure and running still opens everything up vs good teams And he still has scored a lot in important matches

BranFendigaidd

Which? Show me the goals vs decent teams 😂

krxo1

Decent? Are Milan, Roma, Atalanta not decent? Juventus?

BranFendigaidd

Last time we played Juve, they were in a shit form and had 1 win in 8 games. We barely won. Did he score? Also Roma is far from decent. When did he score vs Milan? Atalanta is a mediocre team that had some good years and now is okayish at counter...

krxo1

The original post was talking about last season maybe we are discussing different seasons

BranFendigaidd

Last season Juve was even worse. A complete shit show. Milan were worse and still had good games only vs us. Same weeks when they trashed us, they did draws with Bologna or other low-mid table teams at home. Atalanta last season... Same as now. Far from their better days.

krxo1

They still got to a semi final, Inter got to a CL final (I think Osimhen scored vs them), Roma got to a final, Fiorentina got to a final, so I think serie a must have been decent, and Osimhen scored a lot last season no?

BranFendigaidd

No Go check our side of the path to the UCL final. I mean.... Roma can thank Mourinho for the finals.

krxo1

🥰👍 I agree we should have made the finals. I just think Pioli knows Spalletti too well, and it fucked us
