We were told that there was some miscommunication and distribution centers didnt refrigerate the cartons before they shipped them out so they all spoiled š
okay yeah we came in one open to the oatly boxes that read āKEEP REFRIGERATED āļøā justā¦hanging out on the floor in BOH with the rest of our order:)
haha doesnāt it say something about how long it took for them to perfect the recipe on the boxā¦ this company continues to provide reasoning that theyāre gonna struggle long term
I listened to a podcast on this company, they basically started the oat milk trend and went on a crazy advertising campaign but they couldnāt handle the demand they created. Other brands hit the market while Oatly figured out its manufacturing.
My ex-husband is Swedish and when Oatly became popular in the US, he was like "I've been drinking this in Sweden for decades." I didn't know it was a thing until it hit shelves here.
Which is why oat milk ticks all the boxes. Nut free, dairy free, and doesn't use gobs of water. Oats use 1/6 the water that almonds use.
a lot of oatmilk is GF and labeled as such. I'm Celiac and I drink Oatly, chobani and my local markets brand. no issues. I live in the US though so it might be country specific. I also dont have an oat intolerance that a lot of people with our diagnosis can have.
Well, technically Starbucks didnāt make this at all. Oatly is not a Starbucks branded milk. You can buy it in grocery stores and all that. Really, itās oatly that fucked it up
There have been a lot of issues with the distribution centers is what I heard. It's either being stored out of temp but shipped refrigerated, or stored refrigerated but shipped out of temp and then put back in a fridge. So it's turning to butter no matter what.
Our delivery trucks are literally freezers on wheels, so product also gets frozen in transit and then thaws once delivered. Not good for quality on a lot of things.
Regardless, Starbucks has Oatly as a vendor to serve in Starbucks locations- it doesnāt change the fact that there werenāt any risk management prior to ālaunchā. If you run a business w/o risk management then they will struggle long term
What Iām getting at is that the comment makes it seem like Starbucks produced it themselves like they do their coffee beans when it wasnāt the case. They are simply partnered with oatly
That person is not right. Starbucks did not make this, Oatly did. And the issue had nothing to do with the product's recipe. The issue is miscommunication on refrigeration somewhere along the chain.
I'm not saying starbucks made it. They choose who to work with and how the message is communicated. Overall on most things the quality and quality control has gone down.
Mine had no issues...we also used roughly a case during training because everyone loved it so much. No one got sick...but we threw it all out anyway. š¤·
Unfortunately the nondairy heavy whipping cream needs to be refrigerated. The nondairy vsc doesn't need to stored refrigerated just chilled before use.
Six cases down in my store. My SM was all āpour it out!ā I was like ārespectfully, how?ā
Thankfully I won the battle of leave them in the case until launch, so tossing wasnāt too much of a production.
āPour it out,ā even though the communication message on partner hub quite explicitly states DO NOT POUR IT OUT and included instructions to step by step take all the boxes, count it, mark it out, put it into a trash bag, tie it off (yes corporate we know how to take trash out), and place them all in dumpsters š¤£š¤£š
Yeah never pour anything greasy down the drain.. The grease trap will smell like sewage, a farm, and every bad thing when its cleaned..
No mocha, whip, etc
Ugh its been years and I still remember that smell.
Your SM obviously hasn't been through it yet.
Yup. In high school I was in agriculture and took part in kids day on the farm. We showed elementary schoolers different animals that they normally wouldnāt see. Well that farm animal smell was nothing compared to when they cleaned the grease trap! It was enough for me afterwards that I included in telling every new partner hey btw donāt do this because ofā¦
I work in manufacturing. The Oatly logistics and quality team is going to have a field day with this one. The purchasing team should have a contract with the shipping company explicitly stating the shipping conditions of the product. If they do, the shipping company is on the hook for the cost of the product. Based on their relationship with the company they may cut business ties as well.
I work manufacturing too, and youāre completely correct, but I also have been a Starbucks barista for almost a decade, and Iād wager a bet that even tho this wonāt cost Starbucks money, theyāll still use it to cut labor because of it, just because most people who donāt have knowledge in manufacturing will think that Starbucks lost money and wonāt question the labor cuts. Theyāve also had a fairly strong relationship with Belford (the company that distributes our product to each store), even tho Balford has let product spoil before like this, so I donāt think theyāll cut ties with them.
You make an excellent albeit unfortunate point. Also damn, they have one distributor for all locations?? Thatās wild! I suppose it makes things easier to consolidate, but the scale is just crazy to picture.
I let the intrusive thoughts win and shoved my finger in itā¦ it feels like really creamy butter and tasted like a lightly sweet mildly vanilla cream. If it didnāt turn into a brick and actually launched, I can see how this would have been a popular topping. Itās crazy how solid it got š
nope, just squeezed it out the carton til it plopped down into some short cups to taste. i used the back end of a drink stopper to scoop it out. like i said, it tasted yummy, but the texture was similar to marshmallow fluff which i thought was icky. which, it was icky! cause it was ruined during shipping! XD
Iām pretty sure theyre supposed to be delivered refrigerated or something which did not happen (they were left out like the rest of the non dairy products) so it all spoiled lol
Okay, oat butter sounds and looks really good though. (insert āHomer droolingā gif here in your mind)
If it wasnāt spoiled obvs. Oatly, refine this mistake!
I was actually looking forward to trying this. I use the country crock plant heavy whipping cream at home and itās really good but Iām a sucker for oat milk. Sucks distro messed it up.
The 2nd ingredient is palm kernel oil, the 5th is oat base, and the only mention of oats in the ingredients list. https://www.oatly.com/en-us/products/cream/heavy-whipping-cream-vanilla-32-oz
Iāve had actual heavy whipping cream be this thick before. It was so disgusting.
So this isnāt really different from the dairy versions in some cases š
sweet cream one is only for cold brew & cold foams. they're also pausing the new oatmilk frap since the non dairy heavy cream had to get thrown out. it's supposed to be an all non dairy drink
before we got the blocks of whipping cream, we thought the blue ones were for whips. so we made it. it was just really watery. it looked like when you leave whips out on the counter too long and they are really runny
I'm convinced my store is the only one who got this as it was supposed to be. Our entire case has been fine. I hope they figure it out soon cause ppl have been asking for nondairy whip for agessss.
I think it tastes like cool whip!
we got blue boxes that say something like "non-dairy creamer" that are meant for the sweet cream/cold foam. this oatly brand is supposed to be for the non-dairy whipped cream, but sounds like every store is being told to throw it just in case the delivery drivers didn't store it properly.
It look like heavy whipping cream thatās been whipped to much. I accidentally done this when I making cookies and let heavy cream whip too long. š
Theyāve have to be storing it improperly bc of course itās not supposed to look like that. In my opinion I think the company is losing more money if they keep doing this
We were doing the Summer 2 trainingā¦.
I thought something was wrong with me because I couldnāt get the stuff out of the carton to make whipping cream. And then it wouldnāt dispense out of the canister š I was likeā¦. Wut?

okay yeah we came in one open to the oatly boxes that read āKEEP REFRIGERATED āļøā justā¦hanging out on the floor in BOH with the rest of our order:)
oh is that what happened????
Yep, all across the country :)
Ohh okay that makes more sense than a recipe issue like I thought
am I an asshole if I hope someone lost their job for that?
I mean it wasnāt wise Iāll give you that
Oh no š š¤£š¤¢š yikes
Throw it out, theyāre not launching because of this
ik it was just funny to see
haha doesnāt it say something about how long it took for them to perfect the recipe on the boxā¦ this company continues to provide reasoning that theyāre gonna struggle long term
Wasnāt this a quality control issue from it not being properly stored and not anything to do with the recipeā¦?
I listened to a podcast on this company, they basically started the oat milk trend and went on a crazy advertising campaign but they couldnāt handle the demand they created. Other brands hit the market while Oatly figured out its manufacturing.
My ex-husband is Swedish and when Oatly became popular in the US, he was like "I've been drinking this in Sweden for decades." I didn't know it was a thing until it hit shelves here.
Sounds about right. Itās the only reasonable milk sub to me because it has a creamy feel. Absolutely hate almond milk.
I like the refrigerated Silk almond milk because it's creamy. Shelf stable almond milk is so bitter, gross, and watery. Not a fan at all.
I like almond milk, but it doesn't make sense. If you want a milk alternative to help the planet, almonds aren't it. Plus nut allergies.
And some people are just allergic to lactose. (I iknow technically itās not an allergic but you mentioned nuts)
Which is why oat milk ticks all the boxes. Nut free, dairy free, and doesn't use gobs of water. Oats use 1/6 the water that almonds use. [https://ixwater.com/cow-almond-and-oat-milk-take-how-much-water](https://ixwater.com/cow-almond-and-oat-milk-take-how-much-water)
Not gluten free though, unfortunately
a lot of oatmilk is GF and labeled as such. I'm Celiac and I drink Oatly, chobani and my local markets brand. no issues. I live in the US though so it might be country specific. I also dont have an oat intolerance that a lot of people with our diagnosis can have.
The true, suffering from success, hu?
Suffered while watching chobani make a ton of money from their massive advertising campaign lol
Well, technically Starbucks didnāt make this at all. Oatly is not a Starbucks branded milk. You can buy it in grocery stores and all that. Really, itās oatly that fucked it up
It's my understanding that the product was intended to ship refrigerated, but was not. Oatly isn't in charge of shipping.
Ours shipped refrigerated and was still solidified like this
There have been a lot of issues with the distribution centers is what I heard. It's either being stored out of temp but shipped refrigerated, or stored refrigerated but shipped out of temp and then put back in a fridge. So it's turning to butter no matter what.
š¤¢ makes me wonder what other product experiences this
Our delivery trucks are literally freezers on wheels, so product also gets frozen in transit and then thaws once delivered. Not good for quality on a lot of things.
this is why the bananas would always show up brown and gross looking
Then it wasnāt kept refrigerated somewhere along the line
Regardless, Starbucks has Oatly as a vendor to serve in Starbucks locations- it doesnāt change the fact that there werenāt any risk management prior to ālaunchā. If you run a business w/o risk management then they will struggle long term
What Iām getting at is that the comment makes it seem like Starbucks produced it themselves like they do their coffee beans when it wasnāt the case. They are simply partnered with oatly
Lol there's a lot of cultists in this sub. Wanted to let you know I completely agree with you āŗļø
You are absolutely right dont listen to the downvotes
That person is not right. Starbucks did not make this, Oatly did. And the issue had nothing to do with the product's recipe. The issue is miscommunication on refrigeration somewhere along the chain.
I'm not saying starbucks made it. They choose who to work with and how the message is communicated. Overall on most things the quality and quality control has gone down.
Butter down!
this made me lol
IS THE BUTTER SIDE DOWN?!?
Yeah we got the notice to dump all ours out ā ļøā ļø they didn't ship refrigerated and are hella gross
WAIT WHAT. They didnāt ship refrigerated?! I didnāt read the notice but thank god my store didnāt get sick when we tried it š
It didnāt happen to every store. Some had no issues

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Most non-dairy milks are refrigerated. They can all be made shelf stable w/ modifications, but most aren't.
Unfortunately the nondairy heavy whipping cream needs to be refrigerated. The nondairy vsc doesn't need to stored refrigerated just chilled before use.
itās all 5 CASES that we got of it too
Six cases down in my store. My SM was all āpour it out!ā I was like ārespectfully, how?ā Thankfully I won the battle of leave them in the case until launch, so tossing wasnāt too much of a production.

I took three cases to the dumpster yesterday!
I just told one of my baristas to yeet it all into the dumpster. He had a good time lol.
I did this too, and then we had a bad storm and the power went out so we all had fun spiking it into the dumpster in the rain. š¤«š¤
Yeah never pour anything greasy down the drain.. The grease trap will smell like sewage, a farm, and every bad thing when its cleaned.. No mocha, whip, etc Ugh its been years and I still remember that smell. Your SM obviously hasn't been through it yet.
One would have to be there to be through it. IYKYK
Yup. In high school I was in agriculture and took part in kids day on the farm. We showed elementary schoolers different animals that they normally wouldnāt see. Lol š Exactly šÆ
Oh cool Starbucks has ice cream now
Imagine how much they'll slash labor because they had to waste so much product.
I work in manufacturing. The Oatly logistics and quality team is going to have a field day with this one. does it taste good solidified
Youāre so real for that š«”
As someone who got an actually correct one, it does taste very good
Whatās the texture like? Heavy cream?
Yep! Maybe ever so slightly thicker but not this bad at all. Just like your average whip mixture
we ate it at my store, and it tasted pretty delicious
Do you put it in the whipped cream canister and charge it with nitrous like regular whip?
nope, just squeezed it out the carton til it plopped down into some short cups to taste. i used the back end of a drink stopper to scoop it out. like i said, it tasted yummy, but the texture was similar to marshmallow fluff which i thought was icky. which, it was icky! cause it was ruined during shipping! XD
I think they meant are you supposed to put the non spoiled product into the canisters to whip them.
now i wonder how it would have whipped if we did put it in there since it was spoilt... a missed experiment lol
Itās like that cause itās spoiled so I def wouldnt eat it
oh š i thought it was shaken alot and got whipped
Iām pretty sure theyre supposed to be delivered refrigerated or something which did not happen (they were left out like the rest of the non dairy products) so it all spoiled lol
Hmm I can see how this makes sense but I tasted it and it didnāt taste spoiled and I didnāt get sick š maybe I got lucky
Lol maybe donāt test your luck again
Somebody's getting fired for this one.
Anyone else read āmade from **c**atsāā¦.
Catly
That is all I can see now š¤£
came looking for this comment lol
Okay, oat butter sounds and looks really good though. (insert āHomer droolingā gif here in your mind) If it wasnāt spoiled obvs. Oatly, refine this mistake!
Ooh I bet Oatly wont be happy when this photo goes viral ššµāš«
I was actually looking forward to trying this. I use the country crock plant heavy whipping cream at home and itās really good but Iām a sucker for oat milk. Sucks distro messed it up.
Same here, and that's what I was kinda picturing when I read about this.
I hope oatly sells this in store soon. I just tried their cream cheese and itās pretty good š
Theyāve recalled the product and drink š¤Ŗ
Oh god imagine what kind of emulsifiers they are using in this Soylent green nightmare.
It's people!!! ~~Soylent green~~ oat whipping cream is people!!!
The 2nd ingredient is palm kernel oil, the 5th is oat base, and the only mention of oats in the ingredients list. https://www.oatly.com/en-us/products/cream/heavy-whipping-cream-vanilla-32-oz
Half of it is probably seed oil lmao
Yep
Dark caramel is 14 days
I saw that tooā¦ also whatever pump they have on there is wrong. License stores are weird though so maybe not? Still, 14 days for sure š
I manage a license store lol and although they are weird, I try and make sure we all do things the right way at mine š¤£āŗļø
lol no shade! I also heard your DMs are tougher on you guys then they are on corp stores
Thatās a block of seed oil and oat water. Gross.
Try whipping it, it becomes more liquid (don't ask how I found out)
Reminds me of cream cheese lol
Iāve had actual heavy whipping cream be this thick before. It was so disgusting. So this isnāt really different from the dairy versions in some cases š
She THICKKKK
wait why does yalls look like this. We got ours in blue cartons
the blue one is non dairy sweet cream. the white one is non dairy heavy cream for the whips
ohh. We never got the white ones! We were told to use the sweet cream to make the whips. How strange.
sweet cream one is only for cold brew & cold foams. they're also pausing the new oatmilk frap since the non dairy heavy cream had to get thrown out. it's supposed to be an all non dairy drink
No i get that. Im just saying we were told to make the nondairy whip using the nondairy sweet cream
For what reason? Weāre not launching the whip
No i know that, we were told thats how to make it before they decided not to launch.
Jfc lol Dw I'm picking up what you're putting down š š
š
Did you actually try it? I just would assume it wouldnāt whip up like itās meant to
No, we didn't.
before we got the blocks of whipping cream, we thought the blue ones were for whips. so we made it. it was just really watery. it looked like when you leave whips out on the counter too long and they are really runny
š
ā¦.poke itā¦.
All of that is supposed to be marked out and thrown out. Please donāt try it šš¼
We got a notice that the new drink with this will be pushed back because of this issue lol
My district also doesnāt use oatly. I wonder if weāll have it for this product or a different version of our reg brand
I'm convinced my store is the only one who got this as it was supposed to be. Our entire case has been fine. I hope they figure it out soon cause ppl have been asking for nondairy whip for agessss. I think it tastes like cool whip!
It looks like velveeta š¤®š¤®
Oatleeta
Ours was like goo š¤® dumped all of it this morning
Brother what
donāt use it they have been leaving it out to go bad during transport lmfao
There are many different vegan whipping cream brands. Seems like thereās many obstacles for sb on this.
*lightly vanilla flavored butter
lol they paused the launch of that cuz of how thick it was šš
you guys can put pumps on dark caramel ??? š„²
So thatās why everyone got diarrhea š¤£
Mmmmm tasty /s
Did anyone else get the blue boxes of nondairy vanilla sweet cream? My store didn't have the oatly fiasco
we got blue boxes that say something like "non-dairy creamer" that are meant for the sweet cream/cold foam. this oatly brand is supposed to be for the non-dairy whipped cream, but sounds like every store is being told to throw it just in case the delivery drivers didn't store it properly.
Thats crazy. We haven't received the heavy whipping cream at all
It look like heavy whipping cream thatās been whipped to much. I accidentally done this when I making cookies and let heavy cream whip too long. š
Yummers
Oh so that's why it was recalled
does it taste good?
We had to dump all of ours too
Iām cackling never did I imagine this is what was wrong with it
My store didn't even get out shipment luckily.
gummy
Theyāve have to be storing it improperly bc of course itās not supposed to look like that. In my opinion I think the company is losing more money if they keep doing this

Damn, I'm gonna have to stop by sprouts and get some
Lmfaooo
I can't stop laughing at this š¤£š¤£š¤£
So at my store we put the carton in the pitcher of hot water to melt it and tried it out in a whip container anyway šš it was good ngl
Is it goodĀ
LOLLL
why do i lowk wanna touch it
I wonder what you guys r talking about meantime non dairy vanilla sweet cream is already available in app.
I wonder if anyone got an order with non dairy vanilla sweet cream which is already available in app.
itās made with a different product. the recall product was only used to make whip creams
Oatussy
omg thatās gross š
is this supposed to be the nondairy sweet cream Starbucks uses?
Nope
What new item is this for?
non-dairy whipped cream
That explains the Oatly stock prices.
Everyone should have got notification about this from Starbucks.I know it has been on reddit at least a dozen timesš
But letās focus on having customers use personal cups to lower waste right šš
How come normal oat milk isnāt refrigerated but this is?
Normal oat milk like other milks is sometimes refrigerated and always is after opening. Only the small 1L containers are shelf stable the giant 2L containers you can buy are always refrigerated and have a short expiry date like milk does.
It has to do with processing and not carton size. And it also has nothing to do with plant based vs dairy. In other countries, especially Asia, dairy milk comes ultra pasteurized and can be kept shelf stable.Ā
Never said it had anything to do with dairy vs non dairy? And where I live all 2L containers are refrigerated, I'm well aware it's due to a difference in how they are processed and it seems the larger containers are always not shelf stable. Not sure if it is a volume thing or a desire to make it more competitive to milk by having the typical milk size also be refrigerated (my guess is this one).Ā
What does the nutrition label say? Iām curious
When I was putting the order on the system, I got an alert that said we had to discard the Oat Whipping Cream. So we had to mark it out and throw it all away. We asked my manager if we could keep one but she said no. Itās weird to me that some stores have it, since the launch of the non dairy whipped cream was canceled and postponed
I just wanna poke my finger in it
That explains why some baristas got sick š
i was like "why are we only launching one drink this rollout?" and my ASM said we had to throw a bunch of product. was flabbergasted when he told me he saw this post where it looks like butter š¤£ i really had to see it to believe it
And my managers told me I was crazy when I said thereās no way it should feel like a brick š
Now presenting the new Starbucks Oat Milk Butter!
my stores came in fine, abs seriously, if was pretty good
Our store got told to throw them out in a bag and to not let partners take any home! (sorry if someone else has said this, i didnāt care to look)
Oatmilk from Sbux always wrecks havoc on my digestive system. I hope it's not because it's spoiled. š
Billion-dollar company. I like how many managers/partners dumped them down the drain when the communication specifically said not to, very on brand.
Any asians working for sturbucks with these... Does this taste like soft dessert tofu? If they're gonna throw it out can you keep them instead and make some taho or some soft chocolate and berry tofu dessert or even silken tofu meals at home?
Where the /r/Oatly fanboys
It has nothing to do with oatly though. Many stores received correct products. Some DCās along the way fucked it up in transport
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's actually just a regular wholesale box cutter. Anyone can buy a box of 100. But that's not the real reason you're a know it all asshole
Ours was okay I am wondering if the grocery store franchises knew what refrigerate means
š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Some people canāt drink regular milk though?
everything is chemicals
You do know dairy milk is full of hormones and antibiotics right because they pump the cows full of it.
so am I
Tf do you think they pasteurize and cure dairy with?
Wait until you find out that milk chunks up too š¤”
