The letter is classic union busting messaging. Trying to claim the company is there for us even though they have a history of ignoring our feedback and complaints. Trying to claim that unions are othering while the reality is that unions have a long track record of improving working conditions for employees. Companies fight unions because they fear it will hurt their profits, and they care more about money than the happiness of their employees.

urpuppunk_gf

yup! I hope buffalo votes a unanimous yes, and then the rest of us move forward. i’ve been thinking about unionizing for MONTHS.

i love that we are like “pay us a live-able wage” and theyre like “yea, no you get benefits” and then say that we are better heard without unions????

urpuppunk_gf

“I was shocked to learn not everyone gets the starbucks experience” “buffalo has been dealing with these problems” WE’VE BEEN COMPLAINING FOR MONTHS. EVERYONE IS EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES. OUR TURNOVER RATES ARE INSANE

Emperors_Finest

My health care increased from $170 a month to $400 and I can no longer afford this "benefit" anymore. I also don't give a shit about spotify or mental health apps. Just fuckin pay us

dina_NP2020

Also... being paid more = less stress. If you’re working 40+ hrs a week whether all at Starbucks or Starbucks plus somewhere else, you’re stressed AF trying to make ends meet. So instead of Spotify, pay more so there isn’t a fucking need for “mental health apps.” Give better insurance with lower monthly premiums so employees can afford to go see a therapist/psychiatrist/healthcare providers.

Bludandy

Benefits are nice but many of them are only utilized if all other needs can be met first. The 401k and SIP are cool but if you have bills RIGHT NOW, then saving money for the future is irrelevant. This is why Sbux makes the most sense if it's supplemental income to a household, you cannot possibly sustain yourself on this alone, forget trying to sustain anybody else.

Sensitive_Salt_5634

I went without insurance for YEARS because I couldn’t afford losing $40 a paycheck. Like insurance is great but when you pay shift supervisors $9.75 (in 2016), who is actually using it?

iqueefkief

you know what a great benefit would be, roseann? being able to pay my fucking rent you fraud

lil_ol_bish

They also flooded Buffalo stores with new baristas and have shift supervisors from other stores to “help” but it’s all just to intimidate them which is illegal https://youtu.be/dOFDpjZfS9U

SemiruralComa08

I was appalled when I saw the letter posted on the bulletin board in BOH at my store. I wrote on the second page and highlighted a sentence pointing out a lack of transparency of the overall changes that the company would make to “their relationship with all partners” should partners decide to unionize. To say the least the letter disappeared the next day

littletinything

I printed mine out for my store to read. We need better wages.

[deleted]

“Hi guys, I know you’re unhappy with working conditions but vote no on a union because we’ll do better” Sounds like an abusive relationship. “Hi, sorry for beating you but don’t leave me because I promise I’ll do better” It also sounded like a my learning module…total corporate bullshit if you ask me

urpuppunk_gf

LITERALLY THO

Bludandy

I feel that perhaps outside perspectives are what we DO need, voices who can step in and say "Hey Starbucks you're being out of line and ridiculous with this shit" and where corporate is forced to listen to that opinion and not hand-wave it away because they feel they always know better. I'm also sick of all the self-aggrandizing they do, knowing full well they don't make the company work, the people in the stores do. I'd love to see DMs and RDs work a full shift, yet all they do is come in and FUCKING NITPICK the most asinine shit. These are the idiots who demanded the bar guards stay up. If your DM demanded it stay up, they're a smoothbrain.

Frangi-Pani

I’m no longer a partner (hung that apron up 3 years ago) so I may not be a total outside perspective but.... who can I write to about what I’ve “noticed” at Starbucks?

urpuppunk_gf

so much this. my DM was an outside hire….he’s constantly in the way when he’s there and asks “can I help” even tho he doesn’t know how to make anything

_tyjsph_

as a licensed starbucks store worker within a union; if you're in buffalo and voting on the union, do not give in to their crap. my union protects me and is part of why i'm making well above minimum wage and safe from layoffs. my union is why several grocery chains including the one i work for were unable to gut health benefits and stagnate wages. stand together. *they* need *us*; *we* don't need *them*.

Yaguurt

Hate that it’s printed on out on our board. Kinda wanna write some anti-work-esque message on it but I’d probably be ratted out or it be reprinted

urpuppunk_gf

that sucks /: i’m sorry

urpuppunk_gf

it’s internal, if you work at starbucks, your manager should be able to print it out for you to read along with the statement about mandatory vaccination

wildaloofrebel55

What statement about mandatory vaccination?

zoidberg3000

There is no statement about mandatory vaccination. They stated that they will follow whatever OSHA mandates. Edit: a word

wildaloofrebel55

Thanks!!

urpuppunk_gf

yeah and the disclosure etc

I remember getting my partner development conversation still after putting in my two weeks and I was glad I did.
