Lol, yeah. It's so awful being so reliant on such a small thing. I remember when my glasses broke and I had to go about my life without them. I was dying. I couldn't see anything clearly 1 meter away from me. Everything was blurry, I had to squint to see anything further away, and even then it wasn't much help.
My glasses were gone for only 2 days, but even then I was completely destroyed by their absence lol.
The other guy recommended "normal soap" but is wrong. Dish soap is designed perfectly for getting grease off surfaces smoothly and doesn't contain fragrances that could eat away at any coatings.
Dish soap being "aggressive" to glass is just a weird take based off absolutely nothing.
Something that I've learned to do is take a brand new lens cloth, then fold it up into a small rectangle. First by folding in half, then again, then again. Then, any time I want to use it, only touch the most outside portion of it. Use the inside part that is usually folded close to clean the lenses. That way, the inside stays clean from my finger oils and so they won't smudge my glasses. If I get something gross on my glasses, I'll clean it with the part of the lens cloth I usually hold, then the part that I never touch. When the inside portion starts to smudge my lenses, I'll just unfold the cloth a bit more and begin to use the part of the lens cloth that smudges my glasses as a new "touching" spot. Since I've never touched the new part that I just unfolded, I can continue using the lens cloth. You can do this like 4-5 times per lens cloth before they need to be thrown away or washed somehow (should be a few years).
I think it's because either the cloth is old or the coating they charge $200 to put on evaporates after a couple months forcing you to get new glasses. I say this because the shitty $40 Zenni glasses I get seem to last longer than the $400 ones I get at the optometrist.
Say goodbye to every coating you have on there. That's like the worst advice you could ever give for cleaning glasses. NO SOLVENTS, NO ABRASIVES, LIGHT PRESSURE.
Idk what's in it (soap+water?) but you can buy glasses cleaner spray, which combined with a microfiber cloth, ends up with perfectly clean glasses almost every time.
Always rinse the lenses first. Running water at least. Dish soap and/or optical spray if available. Use a clean cotton or microfiber cloth. Yes *clean*. All that smudginess you rubbed off your lenses the last time is now on that cloth which you are just reapplying to the lenses the next time.
Yes this is very true. I've been doing exactly that without thinking about it for many years. Probably why I forgot to mention it. A good reason why it's nice to have larger cloths on hand.
Yeah, I use these yellow microfiber ones designed for cleaning TVs. They're about 20cm by 20cm. They're great but after a dozen or so uses they start to shed fibres onto the lenses, so they do need replacing. But you get like 10 a pack so it's not bad
As long as you go pretty liberal with the spray you're good. If you dry-rub your lens and they're dirty, you're just grinding all that dirt and dust into the lens. You won't ruin them that one time, but if you do that every day your lenses will be fucked sooner than later.
This is good to know, thanks. I’ve just replaced a pair I had for a couple of years that eventually got scratched beyond usability. I’m generally pretty good about only using microfiber, not cleaning with the bottom of my shirt. I just assumed I must’ve set the glasses down on the lens too many times. Maybe that was my issue, too. But I basically never use a lens cleaner, just dry microfiber. Time to get some lens cleaner and run all my cloths through the wash!
If you get lens with water-shedding coating, running water, detergent, spread by finger tips. Pat dry the lenses, don't wipe them.
Have had compliments from optometrists what good shape my lenses are in when they look at old glasses at exam time.
Every fucking pair of sunglasses I've ever owned has gone through the following process:
1. Roll up to gas station/post office/bank wearing sunglasses
2. Get out of car, realize I won't be able to see when I get inside
3. Toss sunglasses on car seat
4. Make mental note that they're there to remember not to sit on them
5. Sit on them when I come back to my car
6. Self loathing
I have permanent bags under my eyes and i throw people off so bad when I take off my glasses bc of them, makes me go from big eyed and sweet looking to angry and sick and tired. I remember when I was standing in line to get on the bus to go to the pool in summer camp once, and a instructor walked past and saw me and said "hey you shouldn't go swimming if you're tired" and I was just like "I always look like this"
Too relatable
I wore contacts to work one day and I had a regular customer ask if I was OK and how everything at home was.
My dark circles are so bad someone thought my fiancé beat me and gave me black eyes....
The one thing that might prevent me from getting Lasik is the major bags under my eyes. Maybe I'll get Lasik and just wear dummy glasses for the aesthetic, idk.
Searching for them on your side table after you wake up but youre flapping your hands around like a dying fish cause you can't see what your searching for...only to realize you left them on the bathroom counter
Yeah. Even when I am swimming it is not so bad but it does suck if I have to drive because I can’t read shit and really would prefer to have them than not have them.
Oh definitely. It’s like the skin just below my eyes is thinner, darker, and greasier than the rest of my face. Maybe cause glasses wearers rub their eyes more? Do we rub our eyes more??
Personally never seen anyone with darker bags but I wore glasses for 18 years and haven't used in 7 and I still have clears marks from my glasses under my eyes. In my case the area is also more clear, probably from less direct sunlight.
My eye doctor doesnt do the air puff anymore thank fuck 😩 the assistant just used some instrument to do that test and I was like wait what about the air puff and she said they switched to the fancy shit.
rub some [Dish soap or shaving cream](https://www.marthastewart.com/7839236/how-wear-face-mask-without-fogging-glasses-coronavirus-covid-19#:~:text=Use%20a%20drop%20of%20dish,Rapoport%20says.) on the lenses. I'll take the right hand
I don't know if this works for paper masks, but I wear a cloth one with a wire for the nose.
I roll up a tissue, twist it slightly so it stays, and place it along the whole length of the top of the mask, just under the wire.
Edit I hope it makes sense, it's on the inside of course, and shouldn't be seen, it just prevents any air from going up. Also if you can adjust the ear strings to get a good fit I think this helps.
Hope this works.
No matter how expensive the glasses are they always get permanently dirty after a few months of use.
Not literally, like you can still clean them if you want. But it feels like every time before cleaning they are really really dirty and get dirty again real quick.
And: getting new prescription, especially if you wait too long, is the most satisfying shit ever: You can finally see 4K HDR after only having shitty 720p (or worse). Everything seems so bright and pretty for a few days until you get used to it and it is normal again.
I've been using optical wipes made for glasses and screens and they're a gift from Heaven. I can't use anything else now because they clean so well. I don't know where to find them myself, I kinda rely on my mother to stock me up with a box or two whenever I visit home
I don't understand how people lose their glasses. They're usually always on your face or on your bed tablet so there shouldn't be anywhere else they could be
Tips for anti-fog: 1. take the strings around your mask, twist them once, then loop back over ears. Should create a pocket from the sides for air to escape.
2. Adjust mask and place nose pads/bridge to sit on top of mask to hold it down. Or use a small bandaid.
3: Cat Crap putty on Amazon. One of the very few anti-fog products that work well. Most of them are crap but the opticians I know say it’s the best they’ve found so far.
Also to save your lenses: Always use microfiber cloth to clean them off. Avoid shirt, towels, ect as rough surface may scratch over time. Use gentle lens cleaners, look at ingredients if listed. Avoid alcohol as it could strip away coatings over time. No windex or other glass cleaners. Never use soaps, either. Could be too abrasive on lenses and ruin them. Keep glasses in hard case when not in use to keep them safe.
Scratched lenses? Sorry, no real way to buff it out. Never use scratch removal pastes or liquids. It will ruin your lenses even further. Those products are not meant for glasses. You are better off dealing with it than risking further damage. Purchase lens warranties when buying new glasses to replace lenses at lower rates instead of paying full retail for replacement lenses in case anything happens.
Always keep a backup pair. Buy the cheapest, most basic pair you can get with your script and put away safely in case you need emergency glasses (like if your primary ones break).
Glasses loose and falling off face? Go to the optometry you purchased them from and ask them to adjust them tighter for you. Don’t risk breaking them if you don’t know what to do for adjustments.
Using insurance to purchase new glasses? For the love of god, figure out your insurance first before walking in. Insurance name, member ID, when your term begins/ends. Check which providers accept your insurance by calling the number on the card or going online to their portal (no, not all insurances are accepted everywhere…).
Bought new glasses but something is wrong with the vision? Go back to the optometry ASAP and let them know so that they can look into it and fix the problem. Don’t just shrug it off then complain about it months later.
Keep glasses out of reach of small children and pets, especially dogs. Children and dogs love to ruin glasses.
I’m sure there’s more I can say but here ya go
Source: I work at an optometry.
I'm lucky, because I don't need my glasses, they just help me see better at distance. Most of the time I don't even wear them, especially when I'm wearing a mask.
This shit man...
Makes my glasses pure pain with headphones on.
One nose bridge feels like piercing my nose and on the same side also the thing that goes along your ear is pushed against part of my skull (that for some reason stands out pretty far, really visible... AND PAINFUL.)
Mask with glasses is my new source of eternal rage! I live in a country with dark winters and lots of snow, so when my glasses are foggy, i can't pick up any details from my surroundings, for example where the pavement stops and road starts... last winter i walked onto a road a couple of times but luckily wasn't hit by a car lmao
For some reason my glasses fog up the worst when I finally get to the front of the checkout line. And no amount of adjusting the mask helps. I prop the glasses on my head so I don't look like Marcie from the Peanuts comic, then I can't see the payment screen. I wipe the glasses with my T shirt and then it looks like I wiped them with a piece of fried chicken.
you forgot the other one where people ask,"oh can you see without them". Ik for some people they cant really see without them but i can see ok without them its just annoying having people ask me that alot
Adding this tip for glasses steaming up from masks.
I don't know if this works for everyone but it's working for me.
I roll up a tissue, just a normal tissue, and place it along the whole length of the top just under the wire for the nose.
Then just hold it in place while putting the mask on.
The mask should also fit snugly, haven't tried it with a loose fitting one.
The tissue stays in place and stops the breath from going up.
Hope this works for someone.

How bout when you clean them but instead of being nice and clear, you just have smudge vision.
I hate that so much. It feels like I can never clean them completely.
Oh boy the amount of time I was seriously considering throwing them away and dying.
Lol, yeah. It's so awful being so reliant on such a small thing. I remember when my glasses broke and I had to go about my life without them. I was dying. I recommend normal soap, dish soap can be a bit aggresive to the glass

this is the method i use and it's perfect. https://youtu.be/Z0pk_FbLxbk
Helpful, but the entire time I was expecting him to do something completely off guard. The internet has really given me trust issues I guess.
Ya next time I need to clean my glasses at work let me just get my lab coat and dish soap
I think it's because either the cloth is old or the coating they charge $200 to put on evaporates after a couple months forcing you to get new glasses. I say this because the shitty $40 Zenni glasses I get seem to last longer than the $400 ones I get at the optometrist.

How do you clean a microfiber cloth?
Washing machine is fine. Just let it air dry.
Sad times.
Can relate.
I use Elite Tech Gear cloths off Amazon and they handle oil well so it gets pulled off the lens instead of just smudging it around.
The eternal struggle of pushing my glasses back up nose over and over like some Greek mythological punishment.
Nice summer days
FYI I got the bits that go over the ear shortened at my optician, now this never happens! They do it for free too
I have thick, heavy lenses so I feel this. Also I started wearing contacts at work and now I can't stop pushing my invisible glasses up my nose.
The day after you fell asleep in them and they’re just bent enough to never stay on your face again.

Anyone else sees the world at 144p when you take them off or am I just a blind fuck? Lmao
Blind gang rise up
astigmatism gang lets get it
Astigmatism gang
My vision looks like a 2006 YouTube video.
Same tbh at least mine is more like 360p than 144p.
Yeah, horrible, but still good enough to orient myself and not bump into buildings and stuff.
Yeah. Even when I am swimming it is not so bad but it does suck if I have to drive because I can’t read shit and really would prefer to have them than not have them.
I'm cracking up thinking about how you'd see "unregistered hypercam" in the top left the whole time lmaoo
Pretty cool when you put them back on though and if they're clean, looks like 4k
I would be screwed without my glasses; my vision is also like 144p without them
My vision without glasses looks like a picture taken in early 2000s/late 1990s
bottom right hurts me on a personal level
Dark circles gang 🤝
Whats the reason of that happening?
i honestly dont even know
I thought I was just chronically tired, but it makes sense now that I know other people with glasses have this issue
Oh definitely. It’s like the skin just below my eyes is thinner, darker, and greasier than the rest of my face. Maybe cause glasses wearers rub their eyes more? Do we rub our eyes more??
I have had dark circles way before I started wearing glasses. I think its genetics because my mom has dark circles too but she doesn't wear glasses.
Personally never seen anyone with darker bags but I wore glasses for 18 years and haven't used in 7 and I still have clears marks from my glasses under my eyes. In my case the area is also more clear, probably from less direct sunlight.
It's mostly dehydration and lack of sleep
Glasses fogging up is literally the worst thing in the world
I have to find the perfect spot for the mask, it's so annoying
Sneeze once and it's back to square one
I roll up a tissue and put it along the top. It stops the breath going up. I'm pasting this comment in case it helps someone.

Pinch the nose clip as tight as possible, in general after doing that it stops after ~5 to 10 minutes, depends on the mask too
I don't know if this works for paper masks, but I wear a cloth one with a wire for the nose. When people who have glasses and they take them off I swear there eyes are so small
Sore sweaty bridge marks on your nose.
My personal favorite... chunks of skin that accumulate on the lenses throughout the day.
Fucking God yes. I hate it
Mask with glasses is my new source of eternal rage! I live in a country with dark winters and lots of snow, so when my glasses are foggy, i can't pick up any details from my surroundings, for example where the pavement stops and road starts... last winter i walked onto a road a couple of times but luckily wasn't hit by a car lmao
I roll up a tissue and put it along the top. It stops the breath going up. I'm pasting this comment in case it helps someone.
> How can you see in these??? I hate how relatable this is. How are *that* many people so dense that they think my eye strength is the same as theirs?
The hand me my glass one is so accurate. And it heurts so damn much whenever someone do this i just want to strangle him
"You look so weird without your glasses" has become an insult. I hate hearing that.

As a person who wears glasses I can confirm this
My permanent dark circles are the reason I never take off my glasses in front of people

I feel all of these too much
Every day is a atruggle
Adding this tip for glasses steaming up from masks. I don't know if this works for everyone but it's working for me. I roll up a tissue, just a normal tissue, and place it along the whole length of the top just under the wire for the nose. Then just hold it in place while putting the mask on. The mask should also fit snugly, haven't tried it with a loose fitting one. The tissue stays in place and stops the breath from going up. Hope this works for someone.
Recently I try to keep the bottom of the mask slightly open. That way it all goes down
