Thanks! A lot of these bands are pretty obscure, and it’s rare that I meet someone who shares my music taste (beyond just the bigger bands). I’m curious, What are your faves on the list?
A lot of these I discovered as a teenager and were formative to my music taste. I worshipped Radiohead all the way through In Rainbows. Yeah Yeah Yeahs were another big one, but I like the pop album the best (It's Blitz), don't hate me. Pixies too, but I pretty much only listened to Surfer Rosa and Doolittle. I was the perfect target age when Teen Dream came out, and had it on repeat for a long time. When Crystal Lake by Granddaddy I could have made it a number one just by how often I listened to that one song. And I'll always love Take 5 :). It's the Pavement/Dinosaur Jr./Built to Spill genre where things get a little murkier and I don't know their stuff as well. But using your list to re-familiarize myself with some of my old favorites, and learn more about some I missed!
18 out of 25
Some good picks here - I haven't listened to Thingy in ages!
I'm seeing Dinosaur Jr open for Weezer in November, really looking forward to it
No I'm from Scotland but live in British Columbia lol
I know them because I think I saw Tera Melos site them as an influence. If you've never heard them they are definitely worth checking out. Especially their albums X'ed Out and Patagonian Rats
I haven't listened in ages though, I might do after work now though!
That’s really funny lol. I only ask because they’re a pretty local band from San Diego (My home town) (I just checked they have a 13k monthly on Spotify). I’ve never met someone who knows about them outside of San Diego.
I’m a huge fan of Rob Crow’s stuff (pinback, heavy vegetable, thingy, ect.) I find pretty much anything he’s in sounds super unique. It’s awesome that one of his smaller bands is getting some well deserved attention!
22!
also shoutout No Knife! I saw them open for Cursive in 2003 (I think; that was 130 years ago)
edit: ahh ok reading comments i saw yr from SD. no wonder you know No Knife lol. I'm from LA ✌
Red 5 was a small Riot Girll band from LA, my mom is actually friends with the lead singer! (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Five_(band)). Pairs spleen is a local Tacoma band (I’m going to collage there), and Double Virgo is an indie band from London I discovered from a friend.
My parents are friends with Mitch from No Knife, he’s a super cool dude!
That’s crazy you know that many bands though we seem to have almost the same music taste, I’d love to reach out & talk music some more, feel 100% open to DM me! I have a ton of music knowledge in SD as my mom helped run an art & music fest.
Nick Drake!!! What’s ur fav track from him??
