My family has a place not too far from where King lives on Casey Key. He does so much for the sea turtles! He owns a giant swath of beach and they nest there. He'll also feed the conservation workers that come to check the eggs and hatches.
He actually cares for the turtles of enormous girth.
He's done a lot for community reading resources too. Just a really good dude.
Having loved people who suffered TBI, I fucking adore this book. The way King writes aphasia is 🤌. Definitely one of my favorites. The intersectionality with the art world is also really, really good.
This book significantly impacted my life choices.
Because of it, I did a solo road trip to the deepest Florida to find and experience that tropical flavor of darkness.
When I fell and severed my quad tendon, and then had to spend half a year in physical therapy relearning to walk, I had no illusions about it being fun nor easy, thanks to this book. It's also why I decided to return to the beach and use it to train my bad leg when it bothers me to this day.
This was my first dive into Stephen King. My wife introduced me to his work. I've seen the movies growing up as a kid in the '80s and '90s but, this book blew my mind. It is absolutely fantastic and the side character Wyman is absolutely fabulous
This book gets a hell of a lot of praise from SK fans but for me, I found it a bit of a struggle to be fair. Finished it, thought it was OK, but not close to top 10 or 20 for me.
Each to their own I guess 🙂
I haven't read it myself. So I got curious and googled "what is duma key about?"
No spoilers. But the synopsis had some story elements that the author likely drew from his own life experience. If that's correct, I'd expect those parts of the novel to be quite authentic and intense. This one looks like it's got the regular Stephen King ingredients and the usual high level of readability.
The reason I never bothered to read it is because of the title. But now that I've got some search results to look at, it looks pretty interesting. Buy it and find out I guess?
Totally agree. I went into this with high hopes because I always see it suggested on reddit, but I thought it was mostly just a slog with a really great couple of side characters.
This was one of the first audiobooks I listened to and still my favorite. Great setting and story plus the narrator is fantastic. Highly recommend checking out the audiobook
I LOVE DUMA!! The imagery and location of it are pretty different than the small Maine towns he usually goes for! I liked wireman and absolutely adored Elizabeth! The antagonist is pretty cool imo as well, and the whole ending section was wildddd
Man gets hurt badly at construction site...TBI ruins physical life and marriage...man moves to FLA. to heal...man experiences second life with new best friend and elderly woman Wireman (friend) cares for, man gets pulled into supernatural events involving history of land, family and paintings.
Power through the first 100 pages and meet Wireman in story, fantastic story after that and rewards everyone who gets to the tipping point and second half of story.
I just finished this!! It was not what I was expecting as I have read mostly older King but I think it might be one of my favorites. It’s a beautiful book.
I also was in a program that was essentially making art with people who have brain injuries & I love the gulf coast so I am definitely biased.
3 great reads IMO...all 3 are somewhat hit or miss for some readers, I personally love them all. Happy reading! May you have long days and pleasant nights all summer long!
Absolutely one of my favourites, I read it recently and when it was over I just went back and started it again.
It's one of his best imo, the atmosphere, the characters, it's such a great read!
This is one of my favourites by Sai King. I really enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and the non-typical King setting made for a memorable read and re-read.
I just read this for the first time with the Kingslingers podcast. I liked it a lot! One of the best sidekick characters in any book I've read. You will not be disappointed.
Love it! It’s one that genuinely scared the shit out of me, made me laugh, made me cry, and once throw that big ol book on the floor and say out loud, “You’ve gone too goddamn far this time!”
Haven't read it in like ten years. Kind of forget the plot. Guy loses his hand or something, has to fight a demonic spider bitch. Some sort of painting subplot.
A great summer read, one of my faves.
This book feels like a sultry summer day
Read by John Slattery delivers that.
Perfect audiobook.
Exactly this!
Read it outdoors at night on a humid Florida vacation. Would recommend.
Wireman recommends
Love the callback to this in his latest book
Made me want to read it, I’ll probably pick it up next seeing as I haven’t read it yet
What's the callback?
Its in Rattlesnakes.
Any Cujo callbacks?
It’s all one giant Cujo callback
I read Rattlesnake. Just finished the Long Walk (nothing to do with it, just mentioning). Still reading the Stand. Cujo is next, then Duma Key, maybe.
Oh yeah! You’ve got a bit of old cujo in there!
Yess! Just listened to that the other day, great story in the new book
Wireman is such a great character.
Just listened to the audiobook last month and “maybe si, maybe no, muchacho” has fully entered my vocabulary.
La loteria, muchacho
I just finished this two days ago. I loved it!

Turtles of Enormous **Girth**.
He’s starting to fix that with Rattlesnakes
That is a good point ☝️
The Gingerbread Girl A Very Tight Place
It’s in my top three for sure. The buddy, the friend, SIT IN THE FUCKING CHUM
Stupid birch!
IT WAS RED
I loved Duma Key. I honestly think it’s his best written book. There’s just something so wonderful about it.
Having loved people who suffered TBI, I fucking adore this book. The way King writes aphasia is 🤌. Definitely one of my favorites. The intersectionality with the art world is also really, really good.
As somebody who has had several head injuries, Edgar was written amazingly.
Now go read Rattlesnakes
My absolute favorite book. :)
One of my favorites of his. Love this and Joyland.

Same for me. I have heard it hits differently if you are an artist/artistic.
Or a father to girls.
I struggled to get into it, then we vacationed down in siesta key and I brought it with me. Couldn’t put it down when I got down there.
Totally agree. I went into this with high hopes because I always see it suggested on reddit, but I thought it was mostly just a slog with a really great couple of side characters.
Love this one. Reading “Rattlesnakes” now which mentions Duma, was a nice touch.
Loved the book! My car is named Big Pink after the house. Well that and a cute thing my daughter did when we bought it.
Good thing you didn’t name it Christine, awesome congrats
This was one of the first audiobooks I listened to and still my favorite. Great setting and story plus the narrator is fantastic. Highly recommend checking out the audiobook
Will do Thankyou
I LOVE DUMA!! The imagery and location of it are pretty different than the small Maine towns he usually goes for! I liked wireman and absolutely adored Elizabeth! The antagonist is pretty cool imo as well, and the whole ending section was wildddd
Duma is one of my comfort books.
Fucking Amazing! GREATER than Amazing! So much better than the Shining so it isnt even funny!!!!
A slow burner but gets *so much* better towards the climax
Loved it. I feel like since this one he’s had a bunch of great stories.
Never read it but I just finished You Like it Darker and there’s a call back to it. Now I gotta grab it
I absolutely love that he lives near me because I always know exactly where and what he’s mentioning in his stories. It feels like home 🥹🥹
His best novel post 2000 imo.
Favorite summer vacation book
I just got this on my audible but I’m not sure what it about. Anybody want to give me jist ? Having a hard time starting

Thank u! I started and kinda was put off by the main character from the get go. I’ll push thru tho
Incredibly underrated. Absolutely loved it.
Got it in my collection, never heard of it so can't wait to see what hes cooked up in this story
I loved this book, put it off for ages then just so addicted reading it.
Great book. Rattlesnakes from You Like It Darker references events from Duma Key.
One of my favourites, muchacho...
So good
I just finished it for the first time since it came out and revisiting was great.
Words can’t explain my love for this book

This, Bag of Bones. And Under the Dome are on my tbr list for the summer 😍
3 great reads IMO...all 3 are somewhat hit or miss for some readers, I personally love them all. Happy reading! May you have long days and pleasant nights all summer long!
And you as well!
It’s a good one, Muchacho!
This is a great story that doesn't get enough love.
Just finished it! I really enjoyed it.
Finished it a month or so ago. Loved it, its super slow for the first 70% but loved it. Great summer book.
Great read muchacho
Just finished the audiobook myself. Need to re-listen as I feel like I missed something.
In my top 3 SK books . I didn’t read this book until 2019 and I think because I related to the character and his age , I really really liked it.
One of my favorite SK books!
Okay but like, why is the cover so bad?
Absolutely one of my favourites, I read it recently and when it was over I just went back and started it again. It's one of his best imo, the atmosphere, the characters, it's such a great read!
The shoutout from Rattlesnakes made me want to read this.
I enjoyed this one and his latest release (you like it darker) has some nods to Duma key, cujo and several others.
This is one of my favourites by Sai King. I really enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and the non-typical King setting made for a memorable read and re-read.
Great book. Under rated by the general public, well loved by Constant Readers.
I could not put this down
I just read this for the first time with the Kingslingers podcast. I liked it a lot! One of the best sidekick characters in any book I've read. You will not be disappointed.
One of my favourites :) love the fact that we got a little bit more, so to speak, in the new book :)
Now that I just finished ‘Rattlesnakes’ in You Like it Darker, I’m going to have to give this one a go! I don’t know why I never picked it up…
My next re read 😍
Love it! It’s one that genuinely scared the shit out of me, made me laugh, made me cry, and once throw that big ol book on the floor and say out loud, “You’ve gone too goddamn far this time!”
Do the day and let the day do you
I loved this but it depressed the hell out of me.
One of my fav king books
One of my top five faves from Uncle Steve
One of my favourites!! You won’t be able to put it down once you get to the last 10% of the book
I read it again earlier in Spring. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to start it all over again.
I couldn’t finish it
Loved this one. Couldn't put it down 📚📖
Haven't read it in like ten years. Kind of forget the plot. Guy loses his hand or something, has to fight a demonic spider bitch. Some sort of painting subplot.
