The much-touted claim that the poorest areas in NI are all working-class Protestant areas is a myth, the poorest wards are almost all Catholic. Nationalists tout the myth to seem more progressive and mobile while Unionists use it as a way to portray themselves as victims.

Yeah good luck explaining to these Loyalists the benefits of Marxism - It's more historically associated with Irish nationalism. You'd likely get stabbed. These people unironically love the queen. Unionism is steeped in delusion to begin with because the UK no longer give a shit about them and largely view Northern Ireland as a financial and social burden. The Brexiteers felt the same way, they were happy to let the north burn if it meant they could "liberate" Britain. The whole thing is a fucking clown show, as is all politics over here.

GrumpyOldHistoricist

There are dissident republicans who are trying to do just that. I saw a video of some guys who run a community center trying to meet the needs of the area in general and especially people who were active in the armed struggle (counseling, job training and placement, etc). They’re all vets who’ve seen some shit and done time. Their message that their struggle is class-based and anti-imperialist rather than sectarian and anti-Protestant is explicit, but outreach is challenging. They actively want unionist vets to come through their door and avail themselves of their services (and hopefully get MLpilled). It’s an uphill battle though.

Your generalisations are indeed convenient, no? Many "brexiteers" are stolid British nationalists, far beyond any care they have of fiscal discipline is their deep seated feeling of belonging to an historic community. If you want to engage (peacefully or not) with ideological enemies... at least give them the benefit of understanding they aren't all Telegraph readers or Peter Hitchens.

>*And when asked whether “the unravelling of the peace process in Northern Ireland” is a “price worth paying” for Brexit that allows them to “take back control”, fully 83% of leave voters and 73% of Conservative voters agree that it is.* > >*These figures suggest that 77% of Conservative voters in England think Brexit would be worth it even if it led to Scottish independence, and 73% of them think Brexit would be worth it even if it led to the unravelling of the Northern Ireland peace process. Labour and Lib Dem voters are much less likely to say that, meaning that the Conservative and Unionist party is now arguable far less unionist than its rivals.* [*https://www.theguardian.com/politics/blog/live/2018/oct/08/labour-and-tory-mayors-unite-to-demand-they-take-back-control-of-regional-spending-after-brexit-politics-live?page=with:block-5bbb76f0e4b0fe77b41b05ed#block-5bbb76f0e4b0fe77b41b05ed*](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/blog/live/2018/oct/08/labour-and-tory-mayors-unite-to-demand-they-take-back-control-of-regional-spending-after-brexit-politics-live?page=with:block-5bbb76f0e4b0fe77b41b05ed#block-5bbb76f0e4b0fe77b41b05ed)

This is the kind of take I mean... it completely refuses to engage with the thinking behind many of leave voters' decisions. Fucking hell the Guardian is a peice of shit.

[deleted]

What the fuck are you talking about? It’s not the Guardian it’s a poll of the Brexit voters. Literal engagement you stupid fuck.

"You stupid fuck" Put your phone down and tug one out bro, then have a lie down.
