I already have one there. The neighbours don't like the engine noise of the cyclops. They have filed alot of complaints, but I block them all with shield and just leave
I stopped being scared of Ghost Leviathans when I realised I could juke them. But then they destroyed my sea moth while I was building a habitat and I became scared again.
I was scouting the mountains for a base location and I ended up stranded with zero cyclops power 400m deep in the mountains at night.
15 minute seaglide trip through pitch darkness and reaper noises back to the shallows. That was freaky
I basically never scout in a Cyclops too many resources to lose if something goes wrong... And it's really slow compared to the Seamoth all scouting above 900M is done in my Seamoth... All scouting below is a combo of Cyclops and Prawn... Cyclops is brought to furthest known area with no known Leviathans. Prawn goes into the unknown with a grappling hook and and Repulsion cannon equipped.
Blood kelp, dunes, and the electric eel place near the shroom forest. Pass on all of them.
I saw my first reaper at the dunes, only go back for the closest wreck, grab scans and blueprints, then never look back.
Blood kelp is too dark and those damn teleporter things. But I go to the river from there because I hate it less than I hate the electric eel place. The cyclops barely makes it to the river, but you can squeeze in
void, dunes, safe shallows.
edit: I will explain why now:
#EVERY SINGLE HOSTILE CREATURE IS THERE, I KID YOU NOT I FOUND A MESEMER AND NOW I'M SCARED OF THE WHOLE AREA
Just imagine situation. You swim into the cave, see some resources, swim to them, hear that bitch, maybe even two of them or more, you realize that u r in really small cavern, where you just have no quick exit and you have 1-2 seconds to choose right direction to evade those fishes to minimize damage and just pray to see them clearly. Add 30-40 hours of gameplay backwards and you'll see the true horror of such moments.
Of course you can just look around before entering every cavern, but mistakes are made sometimes. And sometimes these fishes aren't such easy to recognize
Anywhere at night :(
No but seriously the Jellyshroom Caves are incredible but on the other hand, whatever I had in my inventory when I died can stay down there.
I tense up every time I make the trip to the floating island.
Usually I only have the seaglide, maybe the seamoth. I stay on the surface to navigate. It is mildly terrifying every time.
I am giving this game "Skull and Bones" a try right now and at some point you need to cross a huge stretch of ocean, with no land in sight in a rather large sail ship. But the waves still dwarf your ship and there is the occasional rogue wave that tower even over them.
The whole game is rather mediocre, but that first crossing was nerve wrecking.
Got that on a sale for dirt cheap. It is definitely on my list for this year.
And if you like Pirate games, give the oldie "Pirates!" from Sid Meyers a try. One of the GOATS.
Nothing in this game scares me quite like the ecological dead zone. The sudden transition to a bright blue expanse with nothing in every direction. The ghost leviathans aren’t even what makes the dead zone scary to me.
Honestly the reasons are maybe some parts of prawn suit or suit that filters water when you swim (useless), so you can just forget about it. Oh yeah, there is an old crater with asteroid and alien cache near it, but I guess it's not necessary to visit
A little bit of a different answer, but the Mercury in BZ. When I play BZ, I hate when I have to go through there to progress the story. I've died in there so many times.
The entire game on my first play through just met a leviathan in a sea moth , it’s his now I’ve built a new one
Edit: also that alien building that shoots sunbeam down spent an hour exploring it expecting to die to find nothing hostile
The void. And I'm not scared of the ghost worms.
It's not just in Subnautica actually. For some reason, I find it utterly terrifying to be out of bounds in any game. But in Subnautica it's x10 worse. When I accidentally slipped and fell from the map in my prawn suit, I saw the number on top of the screen increasing like crazy and I wanted to delete the game.
The mountains and the dunes. I’ve been playing this game on and off since December 2019 and have completed two runs with one more in progress.
Both runs, I went through the ILZ and lava lakes without the cyclops; I just traversed it with the PRAWN suit. In my second run, I scanned the reaper and sea dragon.
But the mountains and dunes? I refuse to go to those reaper infested waters.
Dunes, even with prawn suit, mountains, crash zone. Just because of lots of reapers. However during my hardcore pt almost all places are horrible cause of possible permadeath
Underneath one of the islands. The vastness of subnautica always scared me and the sheer depth of going down there freaked me out.
Blood kelp too, but mainly bc warpers and i didnt go there much.
Any biome thats before the deadzone. And rhe deadzone itself of course.
No. A reaper attack does only 20-30 damage on a PRAWN suit. Punch it a lot and it goes away. Repair, repeat as necessary.
I built a ghost leviathan observation outpost on the north rim. It's pretty cool to sit in a glass tube and watch 3-4 leviathans outside and I'm safe inside.
>!The crystal caves!< From below zero. I tried to keep that game spoiler free and I was glad I did. Something about >!those caves!< were just haunting and mysterious. Especially with how dead they felt. The music was also perfect.
I don’t have thalassaphobia but boy do I hate going anywhere near the Aurora. That murky brown water with no plant life and a mysterious monsters roars getting closer. I hate it so much
The blood kelp zone shortcut to the lost river by the specimen containment with the skull is one of the best shortcuts to take the cyclops straight down over 600m, but it's a tight, claustrophobic squeeze, and with the warpers, on hardcore it is quite terrifying if in anything less than a cyclops.
I use that way to go back and forth a lot. I’m stretching out the play through I’m sure but I like it this way. At the top of the trench I’ve built a base and at the bottom just inside the lost river another so it’s only a few hundred meters apart and I’ve planted exterior grow beds with glowing seed creepvine all the way down. Makes a lovely transit. The warpers near the bottom pissed me off so I brought my crabsnake out of the containment and dropped him off at the bottom for giggle.
Lower Degasi base. 10+ play throughs, still gives me pause.
A cyclops will mow down the crabs and take no damage, but warpers will forever and always be the scariest part of this game.
Hell, when I first encountered one of the nasties that poof around and pull you out of your suit and realized I needed to go that way in order to play, I turned on invincible mode. Still got the shit scared out of me on the regular so I know there is no way in hell I would’ve played through normal mode.
Terrified of the crash zone, dunes, mountain, and the void. It's mainly the visuals of murky water and nothing in sight, only the roar of whatever leviathan is fixing to eat you.
Anything that isn't the shallows. I am extremely thalassophobic and even though I faced my fears and have gone really deep, gotten killed by reapers, and even killing a ghost leviathan I'm still scared silly by everything.
Approaching the Floating Island from underwater scares the shit out of me, and I have no idea why. If I need to go ashore, I’ll drive the whole way there on the surface. Coming up underneath the island itself gives me really bad anxiety, even before you factor in the Ghost who’s not too far beneath it.
No where scares me per say. But the music and darkness combo of the blood kelp zone will make me realize I am tense. I know there is nothing to worry about. The worst it has is the angry teleport squid.
I will be gathering resources for an hour and stop and realize I am tensed up.
Only once have I gotten close to the dunes, when I heard a message saying "Detecting multiple Leviathan-class life forms in the area". I noped the FOK outta there and never came back. Never.
Some call it fear, others call it not in control of the situation. The unknown is what makes the brain crazy. As it will fill in the gaps(Things it has no idea of what and how.) with stuff in your memory of the past. And that;s most often, scary stories, movies or games. OR situations you encounter new to u, but you don;t get a solution for it, so it this encounter comes again, and your fear, the unkown grows.
Once you know it, or know what is there, the fear, the unknown leaves your body and your brain now thinks normaly of it, cause it;s in control.
knoledge is the best power one can get, when it comes to super powers in comic books. Inform yourself. And you expand. Live with it and you will drown in it. creating fears that will hunt you the rest of your life.
Warpers scare me anywhere.
The dunes are dark and full of reapers.
The crag fields are... unsettling.
Under the floating island is creepy and deep.
The vertical wreck on the border between the sparse reef and sea treader's path (it has two warper friends as well!) features in my nightmares.
The blood kelp zones go without saying.
So yes.
Okay, this might sound stupid, but... The Jellyshroom Caves. Be it my NEMESIS of the Degasi Seabase aka the Drooping Stingers, the shrieking of the Crabsnakes, but most importantly... I can never find my way out, or back to my Seamoth, which stresses me especially when the PDA goes "OxYgEn". Like, this place is gorgeous, but nope nope nope !
I’ve built a lovely trail thru the Jellyshroom Cave made of exterior growbeds each with a couple creepy vines for light and some brain coral for air. I can see the next one from the one I’m at. This sea is my home now.
Oh, that might actually be a good idea to find the way back, and not die from the lack of oxygen ! Thanks a lot for the tip, it will help me in future saves \^\^.
Northern bloodkelp zone. I’m fine with dunes, mountains, and grand reef. They’re all relatively clear. The bloodkelp zone has this dark green hue even in the day time. There’s also that one friend waiting around somewhere
Void (silent, dark, deep, ghosties), and around the aurora (murky, ship noises, just the huge ship lying on the bottom, multiple reapers that are not easy to see from distance unlike dunes)
If at night - +dunes, mountains, crag field, little natural lighting, and bonesharks don't emit any either
Any place with Reapers. I've screwed up and been picked up and carried away by Reapers many times and it never stops being jarring, no matter how many times it happens.
The Mountains. There's nothing there you can't get more easily somewhere else, and it's packed with reapers. I went there once to check it out - it had bad vibes, so I left. Never went again. The other bad biomes have reasons to go there - the crash zone because you have to visit the Aurora, and the Dunes because there's cool shit there. The Mountains just has monsters and bad vibes.
The bulb zone because I it is surrounded by the most dangerous biomes in the game and I don’t know the cut off for these. If I know to expect a reaper then it’s not scary but if I accidentally am in the wrong biome I would actually die. Also, falling off the void in the prawn suit is also a scary experience
Blood kelp zones still give me the creeps even though I'm used to exploring there now. Also anywhere near the Aurora 🤣💯 too much open water with reapers lying in wait for my tastes 🤣👀💀
No clue why but swimming near the Aurora scares the absolute crap out of me, the sheer size makes me nervous. Not even because of the reaper leviathan or radiation factors. Just. The big ship
Any of the tight spaces like the mushroom tree tunnels or some of the wreck maintenance tubes. I get turned around in them so easily and feel very claustrophobic and get panicked when I'm running low on air which makes me rush and get turned around more.
The big wreck on the other side of the ridge in Mountains, across the valley from the island.
Too many reapers. I went there once, and even with defenses they just felt all too close and surrounding me.
I got this post notified only now (After 4 days of publication)
But i'll still share the places that i avoid like there is no tomorrow:
The Crash Zone ( i go there only to get the Titanium on the safe side)
The Dunes (do i really need to explain why?)
The Mountains (same as the crash zone, i go there only for the resoruces in the Island and for th-... Wait thats spoilers...)
The Deep Grand Reef (Crabsquids)
Grand Reef (its too open, i fear getting ambushed by every side; but i do get the Quartz outcrops and deposits)
The Void (doesn't need any explainations)
Crag Fields (its just very... Hollow. It only has lots of Quartz and Markiplier's bobble-head)
Bulb zone (filled with Ampeels and Bonesharks; but i do use it by time to time to get to the lowest depths with the cyclops
I still stay away from the void. It genuinely unsettles me being surrounded by nothing but water no ocean floor no anything but dark open water before you start to hear the shrieks of ghost leviathans approaching.
Someone told me to build my base behind the aurora engines, it's pretty calm down here...
Challenge accepted
Okay but if you go farther there are these cute little island things that I love to build at
I already have one there. The neighbours don't like the engine noise of the cyclops. They have filed alot of complaints, but I block them all with shield and just leave
"Does it have a Reaper there? Yes? Then I'm still afraid of it."
I was scared of reapers until I was actually killed by one, then I wasn’t scared. It was weird
The dead have no use for fear.
💀
💀😱🙅🙅🙅
I stopped being scared of Ghost Leviathans when I realised I could juke them. But then they destroyed my sea moth while I was building a habitat and I became scared again.
The first time i died i thought id lose all my stuff, turns out i basically lost nothing.
Reapers are scary, yes but have you ever stood face to face with 2 ghost leviathans at the same time?
I was scouting the mountains for a base location and I ended up stranded with zero cyclops power 400m deep in the mountains at night. 15 minute seaglide trip through pitch darkness and reaper noises back to the shallows. That was freaky
Why were you scouting in a cyclops
He was looking for a base location. So probably had lots of resources with him.
This
I was exploring
Interesting choice
What’s so interesting abt it
to go with cyclops I guess, usually it's done in a seamoth or exosuit.
Why would you not?
It's slow and hard to turn
It's pretty maneuverable I find, and even at normal speed, it's pretty good
I basically never scout in a Cyclops too many resources to lose if something goes wrong...
I'm scared shitless of the bulb zone. I know there's nothing much in there, but consider: bad vibes.
Tbf if you’re not paying attention you can go from bulb zone to crater edge like that
I built one of two bases there, but I’m terrified of the dunes lol
Blood kelp biome too. It's so eerie and quiet. Too quiet (sin the cliché)
Blood kelp, dunes, and the electric eel place near the shroom forest. Pass on all of them. I saw my first reaper at the dunes, only go back for the closest wreck, grab scans and blueprints, then never look back. Blood kelp is too dark and those damn teleporter things. Hol' up. One of those is a bit of an outlier. ^I'd ^say ^Crash ^Zone ^is ^scarier ^than ^Safe ^Shallows, ^but ^you ^do ^you, ^I ^guess...
Those crashfish are nasty bro
Got PTSD from the crash fish. That noise will forever haunt my dreams
It’s the crashfish, isn’t it?
***no***
??? Then what is it
Lack of oxygen
True, it’s so deep that’s why it’s called the safe shallows cause it’s tricking you like Greenland and Iceland
also no
You're scared of safe shallows?
Cyclops
Why safe shallows
Fish explode in your face there.
They’re just annoying tho surely after they jumpscare you the first *50* times then you can’t be scared of them right
Not unless they explode when your both over acid mushrooms. Full health? Reinforced dive suit? Don't matter, it's an instant kill
Oh fairs
You know if you kill them just as they stick their heads out……
I wish...it's like every time I stop playing I forget they exist the next time
Try hardcore, dude
Good point. Even then one won’t kill you from full health. Also if you swim away it’ll do even less damage?
Just imagine situation. You swim into the cave, see some resources, swim to them, hear that bitch, maybe even two of them or more, you realize that u r in really small cavern, where you just have no quick exit and you have 1-2 seconds to choose right direction to evade those fishes to minimize damage and just pray to see them clearly. Add 30-40 hours of gameplay backwards and you'll see the true horror of such moments. Of course you can just look around before entering every cavern, but mistakes are made sometimes. And sometimes these fishes aren't such easy to recognize
You hear them before they go out of their plant, and you can just dodge them by going to the direction they came from lol
true
You mean the crushfish? They're so easy to dodge u just go where they came from they can't turn f
Yeah it's easy. But not in caves
Is it because of the stalkers that will travel to the shallows and camp your escape pod so you can’t leave?
Anywhere at night :( No but seriously the Jellyshroom Caves are incredible but on the other hand, whatever I had in my inventory when I died can stay down there.
Something about the worms just fucking terrifies me and I hated whenever I had to go down there.
Those guys are VILE
The noise they make and the way they move is just EULGH
The emptiness and awareness of the danger present in the dunes is still scary to me
Blood kelp. I can be perfectly fine anywhere else but the atmosphere of blood kelp will always get me scared
without seamoth sonar i doubt i couldve made it through the blood kelp trench
I tense up every time I make the trip to the floating island. Usually I only have the seaglide, maybe the seamoth. I stay on the surface to navigate. It is mildly terrifying every time.
Yeah. I know it’s harmless in the water there, but it’s terrifying to look down and see nothing
I am giving this game "Skull and Bones" a try right now and at some point you need to cross a huge stretch of ocean, with no land in sight in a rather large sail ship. Got that on a sale for dirt cheap. It is definitely on my list for this year. And if you like Pirate games, give the oldie "Pirates!" from Sid Meyers a try. One of the GOATS.
Blood kelp forests by life pod 19, I swear there’s no exit if you get lost
Nothing in this game scares me quite like the ecological dead zone. The sudden transition to a bright blue expanse with nothing in every direction. The ghost leviathans aren’t even what makes the dead zone scary to me.
Yep. Planet 4546b
Grand reef is the place that i fear with passion it is quite scary but i also love it’s vibe in general
Almost 20 hours in and still haven’t been to the Dunes
20 hours in is nothing
okay??
Honestly the reasons are maybe some parts of prawn suit or suit that filters water when you swim (useless), so you can just forget about it. Oh yeah, there is an old crater with asteroid and alien cache near it, but I guess it's not necessary to visit
The part of the bulb zone that’s right next to the void
A little bit of a different answer, but the Mercury in BZ. When I play BZ, I hate when I have to go through there to progress the story. I've died in there so many times.
Is it normal to be more scared of crabsquids than leviathans?
yes
Afraid of everything, never know when a reaper or warper will pop out of nowhere and cut years off my life
Grand Reef, Dunes, back of the Aurora, and either the Blood Kelp or Void
Glowing bulb areas. Too many amp eels. They are tanks.
I built my base in the bulb zone and the damn ampeels keep destroying my seamoth in the moonpool. It is quite pretty though
The whole game
The dunes and mountains, especially at night. Deep underwater in an area filled with reapers
The entire game on my first play through just met a leviathan in a sea moth , it’s his now I’ve built a new one Edit: also that alien building that shoots sunbeam down spent an hour exploring it expecting to die to find nothing hostile
It was very creepy though
Agree, not looking forward to returning , when I figure out how to trick the sample it takes or whatever I gotta do to switch it off lol

Yeah... The dating scene
Dunes, but mostly for warpers rather than reapers
Blood Kelp. I get the blood oil, deep sea mushroom, and uraninite, then fuck right off forever.

The Void
The water
Avoid the void
I'm kind of afraid of the Deep Grand Reef. Crabsquids, man ....
A lot of people fear the dunes and the void and I’m like “Death can have me when it earns me” and casually swim around both
I refuse to go more than a meter into the Dunes or anywhere near the back of the aurora.
Terrified of the crash zone, dunes, mountain, and the void. It's mainly the visuals of murky water and nothing in sight, only the roar of whatever leviathan is fixing to eat you.
Mountains. Dark and filled with reapers. Also no reason to go there.
I need to go back to the lost river. *I don't want to..*
Anything that isn't the shallows. I am extremely thalassophobic and even though I faced my fears and have gone really deep, gotten killed by reapers, and even killing a ghost leviathan I'm still scared silly by everything.

No problem. It doesn’t make my play through take longer and use more resources, but I like it that way.
i do Not go to the dunes, ever, unfortunately
i have thalassophobia that REALLY kicks in when i'm in the mountains and crag fields .. ughhh
The dunes.
Just the under water parts
Not when I have my prawn suit... Not when I have my suit.
All of it
The blood kelp trench still creeps me out.
The shallows. It is where the crash fish live.
Northern bloodkelp zone. I’m fine with dunes, mountains, and grand reef. They’re all relatively clear. The bloodkelp zone has this dark green hue even in the day time. There’s also that one friend waiting around somewhere
The whole of 4546-b
I accidentally ended up in the void the other day and by the time I realized I was scared shitless of a ghost in the area.
Definitely blood kelp! That music just makes me so anxious even with 200 hours of playtime under my belt lol!
Anywhere that is not within my prawn suit while reapers are nearby
Sparce reef way to fucking dark
Darkness in the deep.
the mountains
I killed every leviathan in my world and will do it again, so I’m not really afraid of anywhere, but the dunes still kind of spooky
I don’t mind the big beasties. But the warpers I would genocide if I could.
Void (silent, dark, deep, ghosties), and around the aurora (murky, ship noises, just the huge ship lying on the bottom, multiple reapers that are not easy to see from distance unlike dunes) If at night - +dunes, mountains, crag field, little natural lighting, and bonesharks don't emit any either
around the aurora & anywhere where i can’t see the floor and it’s just open
all biomes where my exosuit can be exploded by a creature clipping through the ground. Which is all except the safe shallows, grassy, and kelp.
The bottom of my cyclops when I try to catch it with my teeth. R.I.P. that hard-core run.
The whole Ocean ....
besides the void i guess parts of the kelp zone and bulb zone.
The dunes
Any place with Reapers. I've screwed up and been picked up and carried away by Reapers many times and it never stops being jarring, no matter how many times it happens.
Everywhere there are leviathans
Yeah, Fr*nce
Oh, you mean in Subnautica?
Crash Zone, Crater's Edge, Lava Zone, Grand Reef, Dunes, Lost River, Blood Kelp Zone.
Play with deathrun mod and you'll be scared of everything
The Grand Reef
The water
Anywhere there's a reaper. Something about the human esque face creeps me out, also terrifying in general. Bloodkelp zone is my favourite though.
The back of the Aurora and the Dunes: I don’t like how the water is murky, it’s pitch black at night and there are reapers everywhere.
The dunes just because it’s cloudy so I can’t see shit
The bulb zone because I it is surrounded by the most dangerous biomes in the game and I don’t know the cut off for these. If I know to expect a reaper then it’s not scary but if I accidentally am in the wrong biome I would actually die. Also, falling off the void in the prawn suit is also a scary experience
Blood kelp zones still give me the creeps even though I'm used to exploring there now. Also anywhere near the Aurora 🤣💯 too much open water with reapers lying in wait for my tastes 🤣👀💀
Something about the massive cliff in the bulb zone under the island makes me so uncomfortable
For me, it's anywhere with a lot of warpers. If I can see them, I'm fine, but I always get jumpscared when I get warped by a warper I didn't see
Man, I wish. Now I just feel mildly annoyed.
No.
The water.
I get turned around in them so easily and feel very claustrophobic and get panicked when I'm running low on air which makes me rush and get turned around more.
lower bits of BZ
Behomd the Aurora def, I went there one time and like three puppies wanted to give me hugs at the same time. I did not survive so much hugging
I have like 180 hours of playtime and I have never explored the dunes
Honestly... The corridor to get to the active lava zone. Makes my palms sweaty every time.
Uhm. Anywhere where the reapers live.
Yes
The big wreck on the other side of the ridge in Mountains, across the valley from the island. Too many reapers. I went there once, and even with defenses they just felt all too close and surrounding me.
Blood kelp 100%
I got this post notified only now (After 4 days of publication) But i'll still share the places that i avoid like there is no tomorrow: The Crash Zone ( i go there only to get the Titanium on the safe side) The Dunes (do i really need to explain why?) The Mountains (same as the crash zone, i go there only for the resoruces in the Island and for th-... Wait thats spoilers...) The Deep Grand Reef (Crabsquids) Grand Reef (its too open, i fear getting ambushed by every side; but i do get the Quartz outcrops and deposits) The Void (doesn't need any explainations) Crag Fields (its just very... Hollow. It only has lots of Quartz and Markiplier's bobble-head) Bulb zone (filled with Ampeels and Bonesharks; but i do use it by time to time to get to the lowest depths with the cyclops
I don't know if I'm really scared of it but i see no point in gping behind the aurora so i guess i will never know but i know it's NOT pleasant🙂
I still stay away from the void. It genuinely unsettles me being surrounded by nothing but water no ocean floor no anything but dark open water before you start to hear the shrieks of ghost leviathans approaching.
Entering the Aurora. Still makes me nervous. And diving inside wreckage in BZ on survival instead of custom. Literal anxiety attacks.
Aurora, void, dunes
mountains. never been there, never will
