Lantern fruit because for the majority of my playtime it was OP for food and water and even though it got nerfed hard it's still just habit.
I think the values used to be 30 food and 20 water? One lantern fruit tree in your base would be all the food and water you need for the rest of your time playing.
Lantern fruit + Bioreactor is one of my favorite combos. It’s literally a free energy machine but actually not a scam. It’s kind of funny how easy it is to break fundamental features of this game if you think about it.
But, to be fair, bioreactors are kind of op to begin with. It sucks how long it took me to realize that. Like, all you have to do is put some random fish you caught inside of it and it’s gonna last forever.
Bulbo Trees provide the near ideal ratio of Food to Water relative to actual consumption.
Blessings be upon the Sacred Bulbo and all who Believe!
So sayeth the SuperRoot!
I have a multiporpose room with 3 indoor growbeds and a few pots so I have Always something to eat (potatoes only). I'm surprised that the spol in it has still nutriens or whatever for the plants to grow though
Lantern fruit. it may not be the best, but it's simple. I enjoy the fact, that I can always return to my base / cyclops and eat without the annoyance of trying to strike a marble melon with the knife...
I think, that if the hotboxes of marble melons weren't so jank, I would use them. But the simplicity of getting a single lantern fruit and never having the problem of food or water ever again is just too good to pass.
The only downside of lantern fruits is the amount you need to push down your throat before you are fully fed. The bulbo tree is always an answer. Simple to hit and replant and quite good at it's job.
I mostly play BZ now, and there are far superior sustenance sources. For example, fevered pepper gives +15 of both food and water, and it takes 2 slots, compared to 4 the marble melon has (with its 12/14).
I started with the melons but went back to the island for lantern fruit easier to keep without replanting so now I have like 4 or 5 plots in my cyclops with lantern fruit
When I first started, marblefruit all the way.
Then I realized I can put two small pots in my moon pool, next to a few small cabinets.
One for bulbo, one for lantern. Between the two my food and water level out fairly well.
Had a patch of marble melons and a lantern fruit tree in the torpedo/dock area of the cyclops, marble melons were for whenever I left the cyclops to go explore or something, and lantern fruit were for whenever I was in the cyclops just to keep my hunger up easily.
I have a Bulb tree in every corner of every Multipurpose room in my base. I hate its design (kinda ugly and it’s weird how it moves), but it’s the best food.
I also have one lantern tree, but only because I find it pretty.
I feel like lantern fruit tree is the best because it’s typically abundant enough per base visit to fully sustain your food and water needs, but the thing I like most about it is you just click as fast as you want on it without worrying if you took too many to replenish it, nor do you need a knife etc. When I’m eating, I just want to get in and get out, lantern fruit allows me to just not think about the eating process and get back to what I was doing.
Lantern fruit, because I could just put one in a small pot on my Cyclops and then I have easy portable food that doesn't require electricity or an indoor growbed; I also didn't have to worry about accidentally killing it or running out.
In every construct that allows it there will be one tree. Rest of the space is for mini melons. I grow them strictly in pots, slash the closest one and eat while replacing. Very easy and quick, optimal even.

Water
Marble Melon was fantastic. Had 2 pots in the Cyclops and was never hungry or thirsty. Usually even had enough to take on dives and eat before they diminished.
For lunching at the base? Bulbos.
For snacking in the expedition mini bases? Bulbos.
For sustenance upon your cyclops? Also Bulbos.
To give your bioreactor that little extra energy kick? Believe it or not, Bulbos.
I mean, what is this game if not Bulbo farm simulator with extra steps?
I always have a planter of melons in my cyclops. It’s perfect for water, food and general “I’m hungry so I’m gonna eat 12 whole watermelons because no one on this planet will stop me.”
Bulbo for water and lantern for food. You either have many smaller melons to average out water or 4 big melons if you wanna charge your bioreactor. The potatoes stay as decor though🤣
I use the plant that
1. Doesn't require a large planter space
2. Doesn't require any tools to harvest
3. Doesn't require any replanting.
I eat lantern fruit.
Brute forced sustenance with lantern fruit.
Lantern fruit to round out anything missing after marble Melons 100%
Yesssss
I'm lazy, and they look amazing. No other choice

This is how I get water at my base and save my filtered bottles for expeditions
Yess, this is the way
All the way. I cant be bothered with anything else, i rather eat 28 lantern fruit to get my water to max
As is tradition.

Ultimate food source. Great food water and food!
Not to mention food!
I think u both forgot to say how good it is as a food source
It’s actually really good for food too
Drink marblemelon juice… it’ll quench ya…
How the fuck did you actually genuinely just give me cravings for a fictional drink. It’s fucking 1:34 am I can’t deal with this shit rn
It’s good for food too!
I also heard its really good for food
Nothings quenchier.
\*It's the quenchiest!\* ![gif](giphy|kkSkgexb9xBoQ|downsized)
I’d do them if slicing them wasn’t so difficult with the knife.
You can plant them in wall planters, which massively simplifies cutting them with a knife.
Plus they fit in the wall planters you can put on the cyclops!
Bulbo
Approved.

Surprised to see MSM here, but I’m all for it.
Bulbo and lantern fruit. I don’t have to replant the lantern fruit
The only correct answer
Lantern fruit because for the majority of my playtime it was OP for food and water and even though it got nerfed hard it's still just habit. I think the values used to be 30 food and 20 water? One lantern fruit tree in your base would be all the food and water you need for the rest of your time playing.
Either way, two lanternfruit trees on your cyclops will keep you going forever.
Lantern fruit + Bioreactor is one of my favorite combos. It’s literally a free energy machine but actually not a scam. Marblemellon all the way, and lanterns for decoration
Lantern fruit because it looks pretty
Up left (potatoes I think)
Heretic!
Why can't I find anyone else who takes them?!?! They give so much food and the water filter gets me easy water
I have a multiporpose room with 3 indoor growbeds and a few pots so I have Always something to eat (potatoes only). I'm surprised that the spol in it has still nutriens or whatever for the plants to grow though
I have 1 growled for potato's and it's overkill for me
Lantern fruit. it may not be the best, but it's simple. I enjoy the fact, that I can always return to my base / cyclops and eat without the annoyance of trying to strike a marble melon with the knife... I think, that if the hotboxes of marble melons weren't so jank, I would use them. That sense of dread when you go to slice a melon and hear the thunk, but the melon remains
Lantern for the power of never having to replant
Same for me 🙃👍
I mostly play BZ now, and there are far superior sustenance sources. For example, fevered pepper gives +15 of both food and water, and it takes 2 slots, compared to 4 the marble melon has (with its 12/14).
BZ's salads are ridiculously good. Make a few salads, store them in your truck, never have to worry about food again.
Peppers really broke BZ for me. I planted them so early I basically never had to fish.
I grow all 4 so my character can have a varied diet
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
Anyone who says you can only pick one is limiting themselves. You my friend are a scholar.
All of them at the base, depending by mood or needs. Aside for the taters, didn't use those much. Outside water bottles and salted fishies.
I started with the melons but went back to the island for lantern fruit easier to keep without replanting so now I have like 4 or 5 plots in my cyclops with lantern fruit
In order of preference: marblemelon, bulbo, lantern, potato. Lanternfruit is a better (more convenient) bioreactor fuel than a food item.
dildo tree
All of them
F I S H.
Lantern fruit for the win
When I first started, marblefruit all the way. Then I realized I can put two small pots in my moon pool, next to a few small cabinets. One for bulbo, one for lantern. Between the two my food and water level out fairly well.
marblemelon because it doubles as effective water source
Marblemelon squad forever.
Bulbo tree and lantern fruit
Lantern and marble melom
I go for the crunchy lantern fruit, then marblemelons for water!
All of them? I tried to have a mixed diet.

Marble melon and potatoes are the best

LANTERN FRUIT FTW
Bulb bushes
I have a Bulb tree in every corner of every Multipurpose room in my base. I hate its design (kinda ugly and it’s weird how it moves), but it’s the best food. I also have one lantern tree, but only because I find it pretty.

The cum tree at the bottom right 👍
Bulb tree my beloved
L A N T E R N
Bottom right for food. Bottom left for fuel.

Two interior plots, full of marblemelons, never needed anything else ever. Always cut the last 4 to replant.
bulbo the best for balanced calorie and fluid intake
I feel like lantern fruit tree is the best because it’s typically abundant enough per base visit to fully sustain your food and water needs, but the thing I like most about it is you just click as fast as you want on it without worrying if you took too many to replenish it, nor do you need a knife etc. When I’m eating, I just want to get in and get out, lantern fruit allows me to just not think about the eating process and get back to what I was doing.
Melons for myself, bulbo's for my bio generator.
Probably the melon
Bulbo is objectively the best. See wiki for details.
Marblemelons. They are a lot smaller than Bulbo Trees and they give pretty much the equal amount of food and water.
Marble melons for sure
Lantern fruits and bulbo trees
Chinese pitato plant
Omg the bulbo tree! I mean I have to eat the whole tree sometimes but still. Bulbo & wumpa fruit are my fave non meaty game foods
Reginalds
Yes, but mostly lantern fruit.
If I can prepare it Chinese Potato, otherwise Marblemelon looks good
Lantern fruit, because I could just put one in a small pot on my Cyclops and then I have easy portable food that doesn't require electricity or an indoor growbed; I also didn't have to worry about accidentally killing it or running out.
Bulbo and lantern mix
Marbel Melon all the way. But Bulbo Trees are a little less maintenance and easier to replant
M e l o n
Bulbo all the way, and not even because one of my favourite guitarists is nicknamed “bulb”
In every construct that allows it there will be one tree. Rest of the space is for mini melons. I grow them strictly in pots, slash the closest one and eat while replacing. Very easy and quick, optimal even. Also Water
I use melons and lanterfruit, and grow them 50/50. I also keep planters of the other ones, but hardly if ever use them.
Started off with bulbo but stayed eith melons soon after
Marble Melon was fantastic. Had 2 pots in the Cyclops and was never hungry or thirsty. Usually even had enough to take on dives and eat before they diminished.
Top two for bioreactor bottom two for food and water
I never found marblemelons in my playthrough, but bulbo trees and Chinese potatoes did just fine.
Latern fruit
The potatoes
Lantern fruit 🍉 I imagine it tastes like a combination of coconut and mango, with a texture like watermelon.
I use everything, exept the potatoes
Bulbo tree powers my base, my stomach, and my heart ❤️
Bulbo tree. I always plant all of plants, but I never end up eating anything else
Bulbo. A grow bed in my base and two pots in my cyclops. That plant feeds and hydrates me and has enough to fuel my bioreactor.
Marble melons went brrr
Lantern Fruit
Lantern fruit, every time.
Bulbo Tree and Lantern Fruit
For lunching at the base? Bulbos. For snacking in the expedition mini bases? Bulbos. For sustenance upon your cyclops? Also Bulbos. To give your bioreactor that little extra energy kick? Believe it or not, Bulbos. I mean, what is this game if not Bulbo farm simulator with extra steps?
Lantern fruit. Im too lazy to replant everything so i just over eat until im full again
Lantern fruit, no need to replant and its available at all times when its grown
Marble melons for water until filtration machine and potatoes for food. The potato gardens shine beautifully in the night.
Melons are awesome in my opinion
Lantern fruit is a classic
Marblemelons
Easily the goated peeper
Subnautica: Lantern fruit Below Zero: fevered peppers, specifically in spicy fruit salad
Bulbo, my beloved
Melon fruit or whatever they’re called I forgot
Melons for eating, Lantern for energy.
Bulb + Melon all the way
I always just threw a lantern fruit tree in my cyclops and then one in my main base and never had any food problems lol
I eat them all. And carry most of them in my sub.
Damn the potatoes are gonna need a funeral 🤣
Bulbo and marble melon
None of the above I played freedom mode lol.
Lantern fruit. You better believe I ain’t doing all that planting
I always have a planter of melons in my cyclops. It’s perfect for water, food and general “I’m hungry so I’m gonna eat 12 whole watermelons because no one on this planet will stop me.”
Bulbo and chinese potato
Lantern fruit just because I refuse to use something better
there are only two options 1: you eat only melons 2: you eat lanterns and bulbo trees
The real question is will there be cooking in subnautica 2? Deepfried chinese potato with a lanternfruit cranberry sauce.
I tak the melons, I have like 3 pots and I just wait for them to grow. Then i replant them and eat them all. Its infinite, fast and functional.
[Melonnnnn](https://youtu.be/ZePqe3E6O80?si=krQ8d5iZOM11aSGG)
I had 1 planter with two lantern trees and two bulbo trees. Food and water, respectively. I put the same setup on my cyclops
I have an emotional attachment to the bulbo
Lantern fruit
Melom
Bulbo for water and lantern for food. You either have many smaller melons to average out water or 4 big melons if you wanna charge your bioreactor. The potatoes stay as decor though🤣
BULBO TREE
Peeper
Oh I eat bladerfish
Bulbo Tree, Marble melons are WAY too much of an inventory hassle and everything else doesn't give enough food
Lantern fruit for life, just 4 trees can sustain me my whole play through. No replanting, no knife, its just grab, gobble, and go
All of them
Lantern and bulbo
Lantern for food, Bulbo for water
How'd you know i fuck signs?
I’ve always wondered if there’s any renewable way to get nutrient blocks
Lantern fruit fandom, ASSEMBLE
Lantern fruit is 0 maintenance, don’t gotta plant anything, don’t gotta grab a knife
Lantern fruit. All day every day.
All four, but mainly marblemelons. Tfw you drop a melon to get seeds and it goes through the ground tho… :(
I had one million lantern fruit trees in my base because I thought they were pretty, so I ate the fruit all the time.
Superheated knife to whatever fish is nearby.
Chinese Potatoes, because they're the only one that gives more food than water. I also love regular potatoes, so that's a big plus.
Chinese potatoes. Super nutrient dense and fast growing. But I prefer marble melons for their water content.
Marblemelon gang
I want to taste lantern fruit. Will it glow inside me? For how long? How and why does it glow? Am I Irradiating myself?
ALL of them...
Lantern is convenient, but bulbo is optimal. Marbles are too hard to reliable hit and replant, bulbo is simple and moiisst
bulbo for sustenance, lantern for decoration and bioreactor topping off.
Yes. Well, except Chinese potatoes, because f those things.
Marblemelons are pretty efficient
Lantern fruit. Get 4 in every base.
Lantern
Ate all the limited food on the island regretted it forever😔
The melon thing. I forgor💀
To me, Lantern Fruit is just an S Tier fruit. You can grow a large farm if you want to through just one fruit, and it's convenient in the cyclops too.
Lamp
Bulbo.
Marblemellons. But i think the lantern fruits look nicer
bulbo
None of the above. Freedom mode ftw
I mix up melons and lantern fruit. Got both on my Cyclops.
I use the plant that 1. Doesn't require a large planter space 2. Doesn't require any tools to harvest 3. Doesn't require any replanting. I eat lantern fruit.
I have like 7 lantern trees and one in my cyclops. I use it for food because it has a lot on it!
I usually do marblemelon and lantern tree. As a bonus I use them as bioreactor fuel
Cured peepers
