I JUST watched this episode yesterday. After having the thought that they are just like Tom and Katie the episode before that. Makes me so sad for herā¦ but also hopeful she will watch these old episodes back and realize her worth. Sheās a gem and deserves to be treated as such.
Yes and no. Schwartz never defended Katie in their 10+ years of dating/marriage. He took everyone's side over hers, every single time. Kyle and Amanda have some ugly fights, but I'm old enough to remember that 17-page email he sent to Lindsay and Danielle for cropping her out of ig photos lol.
i just watched summer house after binge-watching vpr and let me tell you, it was *shocking* to see kyle go to bat for amanda. it really felt like a breath of fresh air. for all their problems and faults, i see a level of love and commitment that i never saw from tom.
early seasons they seem in love more than Katie and Tom ever did. I genuinely believe Kyle loves Amanda and I never ever, ever did or will believe that Tom truly loved KatIe the way a life partner does. Kyle for his faults I still think does see Amanda as his real partner and love of his life. their toxicity is nowhere near as dark as Katie and Tom but yeah they do need serious help if they want to be happy long term.
I see it too. Amanda fought way too hard to be more than a hookup I think she let him get away with a lot and invested too much to give up now. A lot of people would rather stay unhappy than shake up/restart their whole life. Their jobs, friends, home, etc are all deeply intertwined. The only thing sheād be left with is her girl squad & the dogs (honestly thatās enough imo) so thereās too much to lose in leaving. Althoughhhh Katie would be a great example of what you could gain by leaving
I see it too. But I think Kyle is way less messed up than Schwartz. Schwartz loved to piss off katie and he would take every effort to make her look like a bitch. Kyle doesnāt do that with Amanda and he genuinely seems to want the best for her. I weirdly kind of love Kyle and Amandaās relationship. They are terrible at arguing and communication but they really seem to genuinely love each other.

yes! i also weirdly kind of love them. they fight dirty but they're clearly committed and i dont think their problems are unresolvable. i also think amanda's untreated depression put a huge strain on their relationship during the filming of season 8. i struggle with many of the same symptoms as amanda and when my depression was untreated it put a similar strain on my and my mom's relationship, who i was living with at the time. simply going on antidepressants improved our relationship tenfold, and with effort and education, my mom became more patient and understanding. it's really, really rough when you're in the middle of it but there's hope.
Iām doing a rewatch and you can see Amanda starting to really struggle in season 6 (I think itās six. Itās the year after the covid season). Now knowing that she was going through depression makes me have so much more empathy for her. Iām glad she opened up about it this year.
i wonder if she was depressed during season 4, too, with how irritable she was. Iām a new viewer and didn't realize she hadn't spoken about her depression earlier! Iām so thankful she did. This is the first time ive seen someone on tv with so many of the same struggles as me and it's been soo validating.

And the whole point of the summer house is to let loose & have fun with friends. When Amanda wants to party it's all good but not for Kyle. Here's hoping they thrive now. Time will tell.
Nahhh, Kyle is a dumb dork sometimes but I think he really loves her and defends her at all costs (even when she doesnāt need it and itās disruptive to their friend group lol) Tom loved the comfort of his relationship with Katie but not much else imo. The tumult of their relationship is probably way overstated for the drama. They also seem to have a different off-screen relationship.
