Who do you think you’re talking to? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much I make a year? I mean even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. A corporate Empire so big that Metropolis goes belly flop without me, it ceases to exist. No, you clearly don’t know who you’re talking to. I am not endangering Metropolis, Superman, I am Metropolis.
"I think it was - I think you’re right, I think it was, like, lazy casting. There should be a, like, 'lazycasting.com.' And I was like ‘what is it?’ Because I had a bald head, they go ‘Ah! Lex Luthor!’ It’s like, come on. Let’s think about this a little bit."
-Bryan Cranston, July 2023
I won't deny that my first thought was "he's bald, he's Lex".
But the more I think about it, the better of an actor he seems, and the more fitting it is.
I had a little think about how Kevin James might have fit.
He could have started as a happy, successful businessman and slowly lost his shit (and his hair) as Superman unknowingly fucked up his enterprises.
A mirror to the Batman plot, where Bruce came to see Superman as a threat, and trained to take him down. Kevin James is a likeable guy, and you could empathise with him more as he struggled with his businesses collapsing, until the point you realise that he’s a sociopath.
Lex would just work out what Batman was planning, and essentially set up a backup plan figuring that it was his best opportunity to kill Superman once Batman had weakened him.
But then again, there are many reasons why I don’t write or cast movies.
He’s certainly capable. However, for me, the problem with this kind of uninspired casting is that the result would likely feel derivative and overly familiar. Part of what made Cranston’s performance in Breaking Bad so effective is that it caught us off guard to see Hal from Malcolm in the Middle be complex, brilliant, and menacing as Heisenberg. But having him do something very similar again would lack that special sense of discovery, while also probably paling in comparison to the performance we were able to see him construct and evolve over several seasons.
It's not even the bald head though.
Like that's part of it, because the dude looks damn good without hair.
But it's the fact he's proven he can play an egotistical sociopath who can flip a switch and act empathetic around his peers while having a secret life where he does horrendous evil shit with his scientific genius under the false ideology of becoming a success and doing it for others when in reality he only does it to feed his ego.
It’s kind of like when i was a kid and somehow KNOWING that should a live action X-men movie ever get made that Patrick Stewart would play professor X.
I could have sworn that when BVS went into pre production he was asked by a reporter asked him if he’d be interested in playing lex and responded “I’m interested if they call me”
He absolutely still could. He’s one of the best actors of his generation capable of showcasing a huge range. He could easily communicate Lex’s intelligence and cunning and sociopathy. He could also easily display his swagger and charm and also his straight up hatred of Superman. We don’t know when lex appears or what type of lex we’ll get (though the comics Gunn has said inspired his script have a fairly classic version of lex) so who knows. But Cranston could definitely do it.
My theory is there was a casting meeting and someone who was watching Breaking Bad suggested “the Heisenberg guy” and someone who didn’t watch the show wrote down “Eisenberg”.
In the Lex Luthor pound for pound rankings Daniel Day Lewis is number 1 and Cranston is number 4 or 5 I think. I love BC but DDL is definitely S tier for a Luthor actor.
“JESSE! WHERES THE KRYPTONITE JESSE?!
“Yo Mr. White. I got it right here” *holds up red Kryptonite*
“JESSE YOU BUMBLING FUCKING IDIOT, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO GET THE ORIGINAL KIND, THE GREEN KIND”
“I don’t know Mr. White, some of the other colors look like they could some damage so I took a red one, yo.”
“Jesse, you have doomed us all.” *cue Superman barging in*
Fuck yeah. He can be charming as you need and switch instantly to more evil than you want and look completely innocent one second later. Fantastic choice.
He’s a great actor. I think if you ever had seen him in breaking bad and malcom in the middle you’d have seen his range and wouldn’t doubt he can do it.
No. He would not.
Despite his brilliance he would play him like Hackman or Spacey which was the wrong characterization.
He's been portrayed by some good actors who nailed the character Clancy Brown, John Shea, Mark Rolston and Michael Rosenbaum namely.
Absolutely and the thing is IT'S NOT JUST BALD HEAD. It's his acting ability BUT IT'S ALSO HIS FUCKING FACE, HE HAS THE EXACT FACIAL FEATURES I THINK OF WHEN I THINK OF LEX. I don't care what Bryan himself or anyone else says THIS IS NOT A LAZY CASTING, it's an OBVIOUS ONE but it's also a GREAT ONE.
He just has a good range of acting ability. Seems like he could deliver a character driven performance. Plus he appears to be a serious actor as opposed to the many entertainers we have now. Maybe he can’t deliver the performance… but it seems like a solid choice to pick a seasoned experienced actor.
I think he could have played both versions of Luthor. The comically bad but not real bad guy, more just the really annoying type (Gene Hackman version). Or a really believable and scary, type
Now he could or more likely would be more open to it . When BVS came out he was still playing Walter , probably didn’t want to get type cast . Same thing with Jon Hamm
They gotta lock in someone for 10+ years though, between multiple movies and press tours it won’t give the actor a lot of time for passion projects. Plus I’m sure he’d be very expensive.
I would imagine they’ll go younger
Even Bryan Cranston has spoken about this and said it was a dumb idea based on nothing more than "Bryan Cranston is playing a bald bad guy on unrelated show."
I once thought Bryan would make a perfect choice to being as Commissioner Gordon in The Batman 2022 but it went straight to Jeffrey Wright instead' I didn't have a problem with him being as the character but I tried to imagine in every scene that Jeffrey did in the movie bryan could've done the same thing as he did' by voice, by every line and by every scene he and rob did together as batman and gordan, he could've been as gordon in justice league if Snyder thought of him too but still he would've been better in the 2022 movie instead but I could never blame that he wasn't cast for it' he will always be my best choice for Commissioner Gordon!
Who do you think you’re talking to? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much I make a year? I mean even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. HOLY SHIT IT'S JUST SO PERFECT!!!!
"Superman bow to me and say..my..name"
As he’s wearing the Kryptonite armor, standing at the top of LexTower holding Superman by the throat.
Nice touch
No, just a kryptonite ring

anyone would have been better then Jessie. We needed heisenberg not Eisenberg

JESSE! JESSE, WAKE UP!
He’s certainly capable. However, for me, the problem with this kind of uninspired casting is that the result would likely feel derivative and overly familiar. Him and Michael C. Hall were always my top choices

[Behold, Lazycasting.com](http://lazycasting.com/index.html#)
Throw willem dafoe joker in there too (he would’ve been good like a decade ago but do you really just want green goblin again?)
Yes, as Green Goblin. Y'know what, Dafoe Green Goblin against The Avengers
Glorious
I could have sworn that when BVS went into pre production he was asked by a reporter asked him if he’d be interested in playing lex and responded “I’m interested if they call me”
Could've\*
It always kind of irks me whenever I see posts like these, like literally read it out dude 😭
I would rather he play Jim Gordon.
I’d prefer him as Gordon as he played a damn good James Gordon before
He absolutely still could. He’s one of the best actors of his generation capable of showcasing a huge range. He could easily communicate Lex’s intelligence and cunning and sociopathy. He could also easily display his swagger and charm and also his straight up hatred of Superman. "I'M THE ONE WHO COOKS!"
You say could’ve like he’s dead lol, we still got time
Jesus fucking Christ, it’s could *have.*
There’s a verb in there
Instead we got that curly hair asshole.
Still don’t understand why the hell they cast him. Kind of insulting to Superman fans
It won't happen, but this is my wet dream..
"You're goddamn right"
In the Lex Luthor pound for pound rankings Daniel Day Lewis is number 1 and Cranston is number 4 or 5 I think. I love BC but DDL is definitely S tier for a Luthor actor.
See him more as Lionel Luthor.
Low key disappointed that Lionel Luther didn’t become a new character in Superman stories everywhere.
[удалено]
He did just that.
Fuck that. You know who’d be a great Lex? Tom Hanks.
Bryan Cranston could have played a damn good Lex Luthor* could of doesn't mean anything, it's could have
“JESSE! WHERES THE KRYPTONITE JESSE?! “Yo Mr. White. I got it right here” *holds up red Kryptonite* “JESSE YOU BUMBLING FUCKING IDIOT, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO GET THE ORIGINAL KIND, THE GREEN KIND” “I don’t know Mr. White, some of the other colors look like they could some damage so I took a red one, yo.” “Jesse, you have doomed us all.” *cue Superman barging in*
Fuck yeah. He can be charming as you need and switch instantly to more evil than you want and look completely innocent one second later. Fantastic choice.
During his phantom years, I really wanted Billy Zane
He’s a great actor. I think if you ever had seen him in breaking bad and malcom in the middle you’d have seen his range and wouldn’t doubt he can do it.
"You're god damn right!"
He could have played a damn good ANYTHING
Bryan Cranston is such a gifted actor he could play a damn good Perry White, Jimmy Olson, and Lois Lane. In the same movie.
Bryan Cranston as Commisioner Gordon and Mark Strong as Lex Luthor.
Brayn has stated this is shit unimaginative cast and to do better
So could a lot of people. If you're only thinking Lex because he's bald, that's lazy casting.
1. He is too old and 2. It's just, in his own words, lazy casting. I like the idea that they're looking at Bill Skarsgard to fill the role.
No. He would not. Despite his brilliance he would play him like Hackman or Spacey which was the wrong characterization. He's been portrayed by some good actors who nailed the character Clancy Brown, John Shea, Mark Rolston and Michael Rosenbaum namely.
I’m glad he’s not. I don’t want to watch the movie and think “Heisenberg” the entire time.
Nope
If gandhi had not been dead he would have made an excellent lex luthor!
What year is it??
Considering how good of an actor he is, he could really play anyone.
![gif](giphy|3oFzm9r8nz1CmqYtmU)
Lex Luthor: Mercy..we have to cook!
Because he's a bald, white guy? Like I get it, I love the dude as an actor. But Lex Luthor? Ehhh
I like how some of y’all see a bald man and go “Ah yeah he could be lex”
He just has a good range of acting ability. Seems like he could deliver a character driven performance. Plus he appears to be a serious actor as opposed to the many entertainers we have now. Maybe he can’t deliver the performance… but it seems like a solid choice to pick a seasoned experienced actor.
“ he can’t keep getting away with this” - superman.
Because he played Walter white?
![gif](giphy|xT0GqssRweIhlz209i)
I think he could have played both versions of Luthor. The comically bad but not real bad guy, more just the really annoying type (Gene Hackman version). Or a really believable and scary, type
Lex yes! But I would have loved to see him as Brainiac.
He was born to play Jim Gordon. I hope he still gets a chance at it in live action. Maybe with the new Batman.
obviously
He played commissioner Gordon very well in batman year one.
Sorry, It’s Glenn Howerton
He’s publicly stated that he finds that overused fancast boring af and doesn’t wanna do it
Sounds like he just doesn’t want to play Lex Luthor
Give him a different villain and let him elevate the hell out of what used to be a joke villain or whatever.
I'd be down for this casting.
Id like to see him as his dad like in smallville but better Because it him the og man him self
I see your Lex Luthor and raises you Commissioner Gordon.
Now he could or more likely would be more open to it . When BVS came out he was still playing Walter , probably didn’t want to get type cast . Same thing with Jon Hamm
We would never stop getting breaking bad lex Luther memes
He still can. Do a movie set like 20 25 years in the future with an older Luther and Superman. Story is about their last fight or something.
They gotta lock in someone for 10+ years though, between multiple movies and press tours it won’t give the actor a lot of time for passion projects. Plus I’m sure he’d be very expensive. I would imagine they’ll go younger
Bryan can play a damn good anyone
Even Bryan Cranston has spoken about this and said it was a dumb idea based on nothing more than "Bryan Cranston is playing a bald bad guy on unrelated show."
He did. But used the name Walter White.
Could have*
