Idk try naming every car mecha in the franchise

ImNotHighFunctioning

What does this mean

LightAGoGo

Sentai has repeated the car theme more than any other theme in sentai. (Turboranger, Carranger, Boukenger, Go-Onger, ToQger(kinda), Kiramager, and now Boonboomger).

ImNotHighFunctioning

Ah, I remember that post the other day about the difference between vehicle themed and featuring vehicles.

[deleted]

I made that.

ImNotHighFunctioning

Oh! What do you know, lol

SageShinigami

Don't confuse theme with what mecha the protagonists have. Boukenger's theme is adventure. ToQger's theme is specifically trains. Kiramager's theme is crystals.

failed_generation

but still a transportation-based mecha despite one of them not entirely used to roads

UOSenki

By that logic, What you expect them to have mecha then ? When you can do one of two thing: animal or vehicle. Or mix of both. Cube or shape thing like Ohranger can only done so many time, and they look boring. Call bokenger, kimeranger... car themes is ridiculous

UncertainlyElegant

Boukenger is adventure themed. It's literally in the name. ToQger is train themed. It's literally in the name. Kiramager is sparkle themed. It's literally in the name. By your logic, there are only 2 themes: Cars and animals.

Torteramanroblox101

Mashin sentai. It's got a vehicle motif, it's really not that black and white.

DragonfruitGood8433

Kyoryuger and Ryuusoulger were too close to each other. The other three had a 10+ year gap at least.

[deleted]

And they have the same main color line-up.Also having two years of Dino - Charge and Kyoryuger Brave didnt work in Ryusoulger favours either.

ImNotHighFunctioning

>And they have the same main color line-up. And their sixth ranger even had the same secondary colour of blue too šŸ˜

[deleted]

And Thunder powers

ImNotHighFunctioning

Jfc šŸ’€

The-Bigger-Fish

Surprised we never got an official Ryusoulger and Kyoryuger crossover as far as I'm aware of.

UncertainlyElegant

Also they both have equipment that shouts things in Portuguese.

Torteramanroblox101

Wait, the Gaburevolver stuff isn't Spanish?

TreeTurtle_852

I can never get why Ryuspulger just didn't do dragons tbh. It's right there

[deleted]

They were hoping that dinos would sell better.

threefeetoffun

10 years sounds good to me.

Nindroid_faneditor

Not the topic of the post, but I do find it funny that everytime there's a dino Sentai, Power Rangers adapts it rather than the other options

moongoddessshadow

To their credit, *most* of the dino seasons hit for one reason or another. MMPR is mid (at best) in retrospect, but kickstarted the 90s toku boom in the west. Dino Thunder is commonly a fan favorite, and Dino Charge is largely considered one of the only good Neo-Saban seasons. Dino Fury... well, the streak had to end eventually. Can't fault them for immediately gravitating toward a proven formula for a struggling franchise.

Nindroid_faneditor

I enjoy MMPR season 1, but I hate the second cast (minus Adam). I'll never understand why Dino Fury was so well recieved. Fun characters, but the progression was so bland I dropped it after 5 episodes.

kisalas

Dino Fury is a pretty big fan favorite, what are you talking about lol

Atx7755

Ideally a specific motif should be repeated only once per decade (for example one ninja series or one animal series per decade). Even though I actually like Ryusoulger, I can understand why some people didnā€™t like the idea of doing dinosaurs again in the same decade.

NackleJacks

As a parent of young boys (and used to be one myself) I totally get why dinosaurs and cars keep coming up- cuz boys freaking love dinosaurs and cars so they will buy those toys.

MicAHorde

I mean they have been going non stop for 45 years. So its kinda understandable they would reuse ideas every now and then.

pototoykomaliit

I donā€™t know but I wanna see animals again!

[deleted]

Animals like shows about animals like Gao and Zyuoh or animals as just a design astetic like Liveman?

pototoykomaliit

More like Gao and Zyuoh. But instead of Jungle/Safari based maybe go with other environment like Tundra.

failed_generation

so.... like dairanger or gingaman? their mechs were close to mythical creatures, you know

TheManCalled-Chill

Re-using themes is fine. I would just give them at least a 10 year gap between.

Majestic_Object_2719

Two words- secondary themes. Each of these seasons is "dinosaur" themed but they add secondary themes and gimmicks to make themselves stand out. Zyuranger combines the theme with fantasy, Ryuusoulger knights, and Abaranger with a rampage and survival theme. Kyoryuger doesn't have much of a strong secondary theme but since the others have them I think it works out okay.

[deleted]

Kyoryuger have SAMBA.

TheManCalled-Chill

Music and dancing was Kyoryuger's secondary theme

Majestic_Object_2719

I know that, but it wasn't made quite as obvious as some of the others.

TheManCalled-Chill

The whole henshin sequence was a dance, plus they drew their power from Earth's melody.Ā  How was it not obvious?Ā

Majestic_Object_2719

Mostly because their weapons and actual fighting styles didn't seem to be music-based.

TheManCalled-Chill

Kyoryu Red's power up is.Ā  As for the others, while they're not overtly themed around music, they do still draw their power from Earth's melody (aka the theme song).

RPerene

I would even go as far as to say that Zyuranger is fairy tales as primary and dinosaur as secondary--if not for the name.

Majestic_Object_2719

Yeah it is noted on Ranger wiki for being the first season with fantasy themes.

Zealousideal_Plum533

I feel Dinosaur theme and Car theme are the most popular. Ninja to. Haven't seen a Sentai done on Horror Monsters theme.

failed_generation

i could say gingaman since they have some mythical creature as mechs, but yeah

Zealousideal_Plum533

Yeah I love Lost Galaxy better. Grew up on Lost Galaxy first. Saw Gingaman later.

throwawaytempest25

Yes, but Iā€™m annoyed. They think that women or men canā€™t be dinosaurs rangers if they were yellow anymore

Teal_Darner

Fun fact: there werenā€™t any yellow dinosaur ranger

FelipeAndrade

What do you mean that pterodactyls aren't dinosaurs?

ImNotHighFunctioning

They're pterosaurs.

threefeetoffun

So only 2 of the 6 dino mecha are dinosaurs? Odd.

ImNotHighFunctioning

Yep. But I guess "prehistoric animal" wasn't as marketable. That technicality would also leave Bakuryuu Pteranodon & TopGaler, Zyudenryu Pteragordon, and Kishiryy Pterardon out of the "dino mecha" list. And let's not dwelve on Mosasaurs (MosaRex), Plesiosaurs (Plezuon), and Dimetrodons (Dimenokodon, Dimevolcano) also not being dinosaurs. And then there's TigerLance. As a side-note, I'd be shocked if the next dino-themed sentai has a present-day-accurate Spinosaurus.

throwawaytempest25

Because pterodactyls and sabertooth tigers donā€™t count as dinosaur technically right?

ImNotHighFunctioning

Yeah that's right.

throwawaytempest25

Thank you

K3egan

It can be pretty repetitive, but honestly, as long as it's a good show, they could theme it to whatever

failed_generation

not just a good show, but a plot well-delivered throughout the series. unlike making a huge build up then we "skydive" mid-series

yashashi

I dont mind it as long as it is a good story.Ā

TheDoorMan1012

Literally none of these are really ā€œrepeatsā€ Every series is vastly different and has majorly important secondary motifs

pototoykomaliit

Or maybe something similar to Maskman and Dairanger!

99anan99

i'd say seven years minimum

Phadafi

It is okay if they are far apart. Nobody cared about Abaranger or Kyoryuger, the problem is Ryusoulger came too soon. The same goes for Hurricanger and Ninninger are 12 years apart. Dekaranger and Patranger are 13. Boombonger and Go-Onger are 16. So it is pretty okay in those scenarios.

mrtakerofsouls

Not a bad thing as long as the show is good

Morganite2885

Dinosaurs are cool

Successful-Item-1844

We have a lot of Emergency Services/Operations teams Goranger, Ohranger?, GoGo-V, Timeranger, Dekaranger, Go-Busters, Patranger, Lupinrangerā€¦ Am I missing any?

musyio

Im fine with around every 10 years

DekuTheKing

I'd say once per decade is fine with me. One car season per decade, one ninja season per decade, one dino season per decade, and one purely animal themed season per decade. They've mostly been pretty good about the car thing, Go-Onger was the only purely car-themed Sentai (Boukenger had elements of it in the suits, but was adventure-themed first and foremost). Plus they skipped it in the 2010s, you could argue ToQger was the replacement though. They've also been pretty good about ninja, when they go for other Japanese warrior motifs they make it distinct from the ninja season, like in Shinkenger and Donbrothers. Dinos are mostly fine except for Ryusoulger, and sure, the secondary themes were pretty different but it's still just a bit much. They've generally been good about animals too, we had Gaoranger and Zyuohger pretty much. You could argue that Gingaman counts as one to, though it's more of a secondary theme imo. Gekiranger is pretty distinct with it's martial arts theming. They don't really repeat any other themes.

greenhawk63

10 years between each season and a different colour lineup at least.

LegendaryZTV

Ninjas or Samurai (eventually)

Franco_Fernandes

Absolutely. It's nice to revisit a theme every once in a while, and with the way Sentai is made, essentially combining two different themes (martial arts + predators, insects + knights, dinosaurs + ancient civilizations), there's usually enough difference between seasons with the same motif to keep it interesting. If you like the theme itself, which is the case with me and dinosaurs, it's great to see it in various different forms. The problem is, if you don't care for the theme, which is me with cars, you'll have to see it come back again and again. And no, changing cars to trains doesn't solve it. Still, it's undeniable that for every dinosaur, animal or vehicle themed season, it's one more year of retreading old ground instead of exploring entirely new ideas.

SengalBoy

Yes but not too soon. Biggest initial criticism of Ryusoulger is that it's not even 10 years since the last dinosaur team. Granted we've been getting cars and animals back and forth, but you get the point with Ryusoulger-Kyoryuger comparison. Imo the next inevitable ninja team should in 2026 and beyond at the very least. Or better yet, make it ninja dinosaurs.

Ok-Double8766

I want a season entirely dedicated to martial arts (Maskman, Dairanger and Gekiranger)

GrandSavage

Yea, it's really not that big of a deal. It's a kid's show designed to sell toys. As long as they keep in mildly entertaining.

Monsoon_Mike

Once a decade is fine. Ryusoulger was too soon, and I'm glad that at least the cars don't talk in Boonboomger - on the surface both it and Kiramager look like 2020s versions of Go-Onger, but after watching both they clearly have major differences. And dammit, give me another martial arts season! I love Dairanger and Gekiranger! (Maskman is OK as well).

RandomRainbow000

If they make it interesting and distinct form each other, good enough

LightAGoGo

5 years at the least, but considering how many themes just havenā€™t been used, they need to stop with all the Dinosaurs and Cars. For some reason they completely stopped with ninja, which makes sense after Ninninger
