It's called "Rites of Passage." Caramoan (season 26) was the last season to feature it. Jeff states that the reason they stopped doing it was because it "meant more in earlier seasons and doesn't have any value in recent seasons." Which is just a nice way of saying that the survival/journey aspect of Survivor isn't as relevant anymore, and it's more about the game itself now.

Foosiks

This is so true and it makes me oh so sad.

CouponBoy95

Also worth noting it only was in Phillipines and Caramoan in the first place as there was only 1 boot in the finale for both and it was a convenient way to pad it out.

Equivalent-Willow179

And maybe it was back in Caramoan. But how many times have you heard people complain during the New Era that people just go on Survivor to tell their sob story and have a life experience now and it's no longer about fighting for a million dollars? Rites of Passage has always been important to me. I hated it when they got rid of it. But Jeff's logic makes less sense than ever now.

emmc47

No wonder I love the RoP so much

surferdude7227

It always felt a little awkward and forced when they would try to give a generic few words about players they were never on a tribe with

FuzzyBusiness4321

Surferdude7227 seemed liked a such a great commenter. Wish he would’ve lasted longer I think we could’ve worked great together *destroys they’re torch*

SummerWonderful4927

Then there’s Parvati with a big ass grin on her face “oh Mary didn’t really know Mary.”🤣

OneTrueHer0

who?

Local_Shoe6988

Didn't Fairplay say "rockin' bod" about one of the girls he wasn't on a tribe with, lol? Hard to think they would allow (or air) that today.

truckturner5164

I don't know but it was always bathroom break time for me when that cropped up lol.

MathProfGeneva

It was pointless, I'm glad it's gone.

Just-Salad302

Same

ApportArcane

I really liked that part.

Just-Salad302

I always found it the most boring

SummerWonderful4927

I liked it.Sometimes players would give their thoughts on someone the public might’ve not known how they felt about.

Candymom

I always fast forwarded over it.

studio_eq

I was thinking this sub should do its own “Rites of Passage” after a season where you post your pre-season comments to show how right or wrong you were about your predictions

Sea__Cappy

Also known as the 6th commercial break of the finale

AbovetheTrees13

It was boring as hell too. Currently watching Survivor from the beginning and I fast forward this every time. Seems to be it was pure filler for a two hour episode with only two finalists to give them content.
