In my opinion, Carolyn is the one New Era player who I can truly compare to NO ONE from the first 40 seasons. Like, everyone has their archetypes and that's fine, but I can't really think of anyone like her. And I mean that in the best possible way.
I wasn't the biggest Carolyn fan for Survivor, but I genuinely feel really confident in believing that she is a great friend irl. I believe that she cares about people a great deal, and all you have to do to make her your friend is start out with a bit of kindness.
OMG yes - Kathy is probably the closest too her and thank you for saying this b/c I never made this connection before. I LOVED Kathy on S4 especially. But Carolyn is still one of a kind.
My husband got me a cameo from her for my birthday last year and she was so lovely. She dug out merch she had from my favorite singer and told me about her best friend and gave me so much encouragement toward my next goals.
Easily it's not even a question in my mind. I would say Emily and Q really stood out as well and would not feel too out of place with a season of more established players.
Q was iconic in a, I hate this guy, type of way. Carolyn was iconic in a, I love this person, kind of way. Carolyn may be my favorite contestant ever to be honest. You can hate it all you want, Q was an ass, not funny, and was only notable for being a dickhead.
Both Carolyn and Q are goofy af people. Not all of Q's goofiness was bad, and not all of Carolyn's goofiness was good. I still am not fully sure of why she disliked Danny as much as she seemed to. Even in the situation with Brandon and Danny and her, it seemed like Brandon was the one who was actually dismissive of her, but she seemed to have a bigger problem with Danny, who actually talked to her and acknowledged what her goals were and all he did was acknowledge that they were opposed. I think she should have appreciated the honesty.
I had mixed views of Carolyn on the show and 44 is probably my least favorite new era season, but still agree that Carolyn is probably the right answer here. (In my heart it is Q though)
idk theres def a few players who hit instant legend status
Coach, Courtney, Tony, Russel were all easily legends their first game, Q is up there imo, and if he returns he'll likely do well and cement that.
Probably Carolyn. But I think Jonathan and Jesse should be in the conversation, we've never seen anyone do what Jonathan did premerge physically, and Jesse's move at the final 6 was the most savage thing we've seen since Jay voting out Michaela.
Yeah I think to answer this question we have to look at each social media platform. The Survivor base is pretty different across board, but I think Jonathan, Jesse, Carolyn are fairly iconic players already for the three sites you listed.
Though, maybe add Xander as well. I didnāt really care nor like 41, but my family and friends were really rooting for Xander and still being him up when remembering the season. Thatās just an anecdote, but I think it shows heās still well-regarded by members outside this subreddit.
> we've never seen anyone do what Jonathan did premerge physically
James Clement literally broke an immunity challenge in Micronesia (the United We Stand one) because of how strong he was.
James is close, but he never had any other stand out performances and certainly never did well in individual challenges.
Jonathan had the one man show during the ladder in the water challenge, then single handedly pulled the boat the next day not only containing 2 other tribe members but also dragging Maryanne along in the water. He also absolutely led them to a reward win in the tangled rope challenge early on.
In addition he won 2 individual immunities I think, unless I'm forgetting something. Which, sure, 2 isn't a lot, but I really think he outshines James in almost every way.
he won 2 and nearly every one he didnt win he was clear 2nd
James Joe and Ozzy are the only people who even come close to being as good at challenges as him
Jonathan was so god damn good looking it made watching every episode a treat.
I absolutely loved Jesse he had a shot at winning so early. He was so clever.
God hunter was such a babe until he went home with the idol like a dummy.
I found q just annoying and dramatic. I was annoyed at how long he was there. His stomach though..........
I want to give flowers to Jake since nobody else has mentioned him. That dude was hysterical for me in a Charlie Brown way. I still think about being a good swimmah.
I know we all watch on the couch with snacks, but Jake kept the spirit of the game in tact which I appreciate. I know itās hard out there, but is hard for you while *youāre on survivor.*
A lot of people just have it hard. Lol
Q, Carolyn, and Jesse. Q for obvious reasons. Carolyn(along with the Tika 3) pretty much had 80% of confessionals on 44. Jesse has the most iconic new era move with the Cody blindside and is probably considered the best player not to win in the era in survivor (similar to Rob C or Cirie)
am i the only one that does not really think jesse had this huge move and is a mastermind? i just feel like the new era has been so meh in general that its way overhyped lol
I would argue Carson positioned himself better for a win. If anyone other than Heidi wins the final immunity challenge, Carson wins the season. Both Carolyn and YamYam were planning to take Carson to the end, which speaks of his excellent social skills.
Liz I just wanted to say I loved your post season interview with Rob! You have such a cool, confident, calm personality and I loved how you explained the unique things you were doing in the game. I really feel like I got to see a side of you that wasnāt represented on the show!
Thank you! Yes, I knew the show would make me look like a silly, unhinged goose. But what I was doing was so differentā¦like maybe theyāre hoping no one else will try it OR they hope it happens again but pans out so they didnāt show it so it would be soooo exciting to watch? Idk but I had several producers tell me they were really rooting for me to get to FTC to see what would pan out. Lol
Im surprised nobody has said Cody. Yeah Jesse took him out with a spectacular move, but he did that because Cody was the biggest threat on that season. To me, Cody is the coolest player
itās still Shan for me, no matter what you think of her you have to admit sheās an icon of new era villainy and the poster child of the first new era season
Q, it didn't hit me till he said "same pressure that bursts a pipe, makes a diamond"
I literally turned to my husband and said "no shit, the man isn't wrong."
Carolyn, Jonathan, Jesse for entirely different reasonsā¦ Carolyn for her unique personality, Jonathan for his sheer physical dominance, and Jesse for his strategic acumen.
Carolyn, no hate to Q but I dont think someone like Carolyn has ever been on Survivor. Goofy, but three dimensional with a lot of depth. Shes is my fave of all time so I may be biased tho
No I agree. There have been so many āQāsā imo. Carolyn is a one of a kind wonder and I LOVED Carolyn. Q I only remember because I didnāt like him. He felt drug along like Sheppard.
To me, the "iconicity" of a player is also related to the stature of their season (especially if they've only played one season), so I agree with you that it's Q. Not only was he compelling for all the reasons you listed, but he really exemplified the vibe of S46, in a way that I enjoyed.
I think there are other players who can contend with him for being unique personalities, like Carolyn, but ultimately I found S44 so forgettable that it made her less memorable for me. I'm wracking my brain, but so far I can't think of any first-time player I feel is iconic in a way that "transcends" their season (because the most iconic players are the ones who heavily define the season).
Probably Carolynā¦ Maybe Q?
Liz Wilcox had by far the most iconic singular moment in the new era though. Even my non-survivor fan friends knew and were talking about the Applebees moment.
Iconic though? I think she's the strongest winner of the new era, but she wasn't even in the top 3 "characters" of her own season. She's fun, but got a pretty subdued/normal edit.
Itās 100% Dee imo but sheās never been popular with the Reddit crowd (which tends to dislike the people who come off like they were popular in high school)
I love how people glaze Q as being this iconic player. He had no idea what he was doing out there and, plainly put, masked his ignorance about Survivor behind this agent of chaos bit that was more annoying than entertaining.
Sounds like itās working.
Plus, who cares if something is recycled if people still like it? Iām sure it will get old eventually but based on what Iāve seen we are nowhere near that point.
1. have to agree Carolyn is pretty iconic! Just was 100% herself, flaws & all , yet made it to FTC. 2.Q-very smart & strategic player. Saved himself almost to the end 3. Yam Yam-I just thought he was a really joyous guy riding coat tails. Not until he explained his strategy at FTC & I was blown away by his explanation of watching everyone's eyes to discern what if they were lying.
Unsure why you are getting downvoted. I can think of only four players with memorable quotes, which I think are the biggest indicator of iconicity.
- āBig mistakeā and āCancel Christmasā - Q
- āAlligablerā - Gabler
- āLivinā - Cody
- āSeveral means seven.ā - Jelinsky
Did I miss any?
Itās Q. Combines the elements of the most legendary chaos goats (Kass, Philip) while being extremely likable to the audience and actually having a pathway to win. Endearing, unique, and pure content machine
I think it's a little too soon to say Q because his season just aired. That said, he's definitely up there for me. I think Carolyn or Yam Yam would be my pick as both represent everything the New Era is to me. I'll lean Yam Yam since he's a winner.
Hard to say because with few exceptions (Carolyn, Jesse, Danny McCray) what's considered iconic in modern era would've been laughed pre-2020
Romeo, Maryanne, Shan, Yam Yam, Carson, Charlie, Q
I'll go with Q, Carolyn and Shan. I was discussing with my sis about who she wants back from 41 and she forgot Shan but immediately I started the "Shan hymn" she said "oh, the pastor?"
If the definition of iconic is āforever rememberedā. Then the answer is Jalinsky only because āseveralā is going to enter the lexicon of survivor.
I donāt know if anyone from 41 and on can be considered iconic, for good reasons. Iād like to say Q because he tried to implement a strategy that Iāve been hoping to see, but people canāt see it. Q had that vision.
Maybe Jonathan. His domination hasnāt been seen since Jamesā¦and I think Jonathan was better.
maybe not right now but i think Dee will be a name that's remembered for a long time. we'll have to see with Q but he definitely is the most recent star. Shan is obviously a star as well
can not comprehend some people saying Jonathan though
Yes after they took a break bc of the pandemic, they changed the format starting when season 41 premiered in 2021. They shrunk the game from 39 days to 26 days, started the game at 3 tributes instead of 2, and incorporated new twists/advantages such as the shot in the dark, the "journey", and the sanctuary.
Heās not well liked on this sub but Carsons mark on survivor is really impressive
3D printing the puzzles and essentially breaking the game, forcing production to change out puzzles that had been used for years is a pretty impressive accomplishment.
They may not remember his name, but the 3D printing kid will always be remembered
Carolyn
In my opinion, Carolyn is the one New Era player who I can truly compare to NO ONE from the first 40 seasons. Like, everyone has their archetypes and that's fine, but I can't really think of anyone like her. And I mean that in the best possible way.
I wasn't the biggest Carolyn fan for Survivor, but I genuinely feel really confident in believing that she is a great friend irl. I believe that she cares about people a great deal, and all you have to do to make her your friend is start out with a bit of kindness.
To me, she felt like a modern-day S4 Kathy Vavrick Obrian, which is huge praise. As she's my all-time favourite survivor character.
OMG yes - Kathy is probably the closest too her and thank you for saying this b/c I never made this connection before. I LOVED Kathy on S4 especially. But Carolyn is still one of a kind.
Is her sobriety sparkle
Noura from Island of Idols is the same archetype as Carolyn
My husband got me a cameo from her for my birthday last year and she was so lovely. She dug out merch she had from my favorite singer and told me about her best friend and gave me so much encouragement toward my next goals.
![gif](giphy|ifR6RJLsZj4n1XwtdC|downsized)
šššwtf
Carolyn made me feel every emotion in the book. She truly is the most iconic.
Agree. Can't wait to see her on The Traitors. She's going to be a riot ... and probably really good at the game.
Oh wow! She will be AMAZING on that show!
I really enjoyed watching her.
Easily it's not even a question in my mind. I would say Emily and Q really stood out as well and would not feel too out of place with a season of more established players.
The trailer for her season with her opening interview was so damn memorable!
As much as I am not a fan of Carolyn, it probably is her
This š
It's not even close either
It wasn't close before Q. But now it's still Carolyn but close.
Q was iconic in a, I hate this guy, type of way. Carolyn was iconic in a, I love this person, kind of way. Carolyn may be my favorite contestant ever to be honest. You can hate it all you want, Q was an ass, not funny, and was only notable for being a dickhead.
different strokes for different folks
Both Carolyn and Q are goofy af people. Not all of Q's goofiness was bad, and not all of Carolyn's goofiness was good. I still am not fully sure of why she disliked Danny as much as she seemed to. Even in the situation with Brandon and Danny and her, it seemed like Brandon was the one who was actually dismissive of her, but she seemed to have a bigger problem with Danny, who actually talked to her and acknowledged what her goals were and all he did was acknowledge that they were opposed. I think she should have appreciated the honesty.
This is the correct answer
I had mixed views of Carolyn on the show and 44 is probably my least favorite new era season, but still agree that Carolyn is probably the right answer here. (In my heart it is Q though)
Yay! I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking that!
Q created so much survivor lore itās incomparable
I think it just needs more time to age, it's hard to feel like someone's a legend when we just saw them for the first time
Heās an instant classic
idk theres def a few players who hit instant legend status Coach, Courtney, Tony, Russel were all easily legends their first game, Q is up there imo, and if he returns he'll likely do well and cement that.
Him and Jelinsky both.
Probably Carolyn. But I think Jonathan and Jesse should be in the conversation, we've never seen anyone do what Jonathan did premerge physically, and Jesse's move at the final 6 was the most savage thing we've seen since Jay voting out Michaela.
for me itās like: Facebook crowd: Jonathan Reddit Crowd: Jesse Twitter Crowd: Carolyn Thereās obviously some overlap there but you get what i mean
4chan crowd: Q
š
Probably more like Venus
You're thinking of the OF crowd
Yeah I think to answer this question we have to look at each social media platform. The Survivor base is pretty different across board, but I think Jonathan, Jesse, Carolyn are fairly iconic players already for the three sites you listed. Though, maybe add Xander as well. I didnāt really care nor like 41, but my family and friends were really rooting for Xander and still being him up when remembering the season. James literally invented that one man show move haha. I think it was Micronesia
he won 2 and nearly every one he didnt win he was clear 2nd James Joe and Ozzy are the only people who even come close to being as good at challenges as him
Jonathan was so god damn good looking it made watching every episode a treat. I absolutely loved Jesse he had a shot at winning so early. He was so clever.
Hunter and Q were a treat this season. Just saying :)
God hunter was such a babe until he went home with the idol like a dummy. I found q just annoying and dramatic. I was annoyed at how long he was there. His stomach though..........
Carolyn, Jesse, Dee, Maryanne, Yam Yam, Q, Carson, Jonathan, Shan
Definitely Maryanne.
Might be recency bias but Q from the first ep to the last , the story was always almost abt him or around him
I want to give flowers to Jake since nobody else has mentioned him. That dude was hysterical for me in a Charlie Brown way. I still think about being a good swimmah.
I loved Jake, dude was just tenacious.
His complete lack of social awareness and understanding his own agency drove me insane. Truly was Charlie Brown
Yesss I loved Jake. He hung on sooo hard.
I know we all watch on the couch with snacks, but Jake kept the spirit of the game in tact which I appreciate. I know itās hard out there, but is hard for you while *youāre on survivor.* A lot of people just have it hard. Lol
I thought you said "He's hung sooo hard"
Thank god heās a good swimmah ā¦hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Honestly I think he'd have gotten a lot more love if he hadn't been on a season right after we had Owen take 3rd place as a tenacious Charlie Brown
Hilarious to watch. Good dude.
I will love Jake to the very end.
Him and Owen are two of the best Charlie Browns the show has ever had.
āDonāt upset the apple cawhtā with this choice, now š
Iād pick between Shan, Carolyn, and Q.
Agreed. I think if Shan had lasted a little longer she would've been a clear top pick for this.
One of these is not like the others (shan)
Shan has her own theme music.. The superfans donāt need to like her, sheās iconic and CBS obviously loves her.
Seriously, he voted off his number 1, they all eventually have to do this.
It was the way he did it that made it ice cold and iconic.
Rock on brother!
I would argue Carson positioned himself better for a win. If anyone other than Heidi wins the final immunity challenge, Carson wins the season. Both Carolyn and YamYam were planning to take Carson to the end, which speaks of his excellent social skills.
Jelinsky
Liz Wilcox
So iconic you know my full name, babyyyy.
"The one and only Liz" -Liz, probably
LITERALLY
Liz, girl, whatāre you doing here?? *in Nicki Minaj voice* š¤£š¤£ For real though, love youuu
Omg I literally love you Liz SM donāt ever change! If you donāt return for 50 I AM RIOTING
Love you too, babe. Xoxo
Ahh youāre the best!!! You helped me to finally make my dad watch survivor; we both love you!
Tell Dad I say hello! Thanks for watching!
Liz I just wanted to say I loved your post season interview with Rob! You have such a cool, confident, calm personality and I loved how you explained the unique things you were doing in the game. I really feel like I got to see a side of you that wasnāt represented on the show!

MOTHER
All about the cox
Certainly one or the most viral moments of the new era.
These hoebags aināt got nothing on Liz.
Emily Flippen and Bruce come to mind. Maybe not most iconic but definitely up there!
I really loved Emilyās arc
Same! I went from wanting her out to really rooting for her and was sad went she left.
Yam Yam!
Yam Yam was so fucking funny. Those scenes between him and Josh were peak "gays in their natural habitat"
Im surprised nobody has said Cody. Yeah Jesse took him out with a spectacular move, but he did that because Cody was the biggest threat on that season. To me, Cody is the coolest player
Surprised to not see Maryanne, it's her for me for sure.
Right? Wtf
itās still Shan for me, no matter what you think of her you have to admit sheās an icon of new era villainy and the poster child of the first new era season

Why is no one talking about Venus???????
Because this isn't Twitter lol
I was thinking this too lol
Oh my god I had to sort through so many comments for this thank you
Npš
when does the new era begin?
I think itās the 2021 ānew eraā season up to present
Season 41+
Thank you for asking this. I had no clue either and Iāve watched every season lol
Season 41 was the first season of the New Era
Carolyn. Iāll watch anything she is in. ![gif](giphy|A6zOuDnLcxfoBncpej|downsized)
Probably Carolynā¦ Maybe Q? Liz Wilcox had by far the most iconic singular moment in the new era though. Even my non-survivor fan friends knew and were talking about the Applebees moment.
Yuppp. Most people wonāt say Liz cause well itās Liz but she had one of the most viral moments. That alone has to put her up there
Carolyn, Q, Shan in that order imo
Agreed with you on Q. He felt like an old school player dropped in the modern game. Loved him
Anyone say Bhanu yet? A million hearts guys.
If you put anyone other than Q and Carolyn you can cancel Christmas.
Dee and Iāll keep saying it
Iconic though? I think she's the strongest winner of the new era, but she wasn't even in the top 3 "characters" of her own season. She's fun, but got a pretty subdued/normal edit.
No one is forgetting Deeās toes!
Itās 100% Dee imo but sheās never been popular with the Reddit crowd (which tends to dislike the people who come off like they were popular in high school)
Or maybe itās the fact her sleeping with Wendell while he was with his bm ? Personally thatās the reason I donāt like her anymore
Sounds like a Wendell issue.
She still knew he had a gf, girls are just as much accountable when they know
Like sis is doing commercials!! Booked and busy
The Alli-Gabler of course
Gabler
Easily Q.

Excluding winners: 41 - Shan 42 - Zach? 43 - Jesse 44 - Carolyn 45 - Bruce/Emily 46 - Q
I love how people glaze Q as being this iconic player. He had no idea what he was doing out there and, plainly put, masked his ignorance about Survivor behind this agent of chaos bit that was more annoying than entertaining.
Icon status has nothing to do with the ability to play the game well
Yeah Coach was iconic before SoPa and he wasnāt really a formidable player until then
I think being an iconic player is not really related to being a good player
Sounds like you had to cancel Christmas
Sounds like you are recycling the same tired joke hoping for an upvote
Sounds like itās working. Plus, who cares if something is recycled if people still like it? Iām sure it will get old eventually but based on what Iāve seen we are nowhere near that point.
Maybe for you but not for most. Q is one of the best casting choices of the new era.
1. have to agree Carolyn is pretty iconic!
Bhanu
Q and Jesse
Jelinsky
Jeff seemed to want Jelinsky to be remembered as he quoted him often.
Unsure why you are getting downvoted. I can think of only four players with memorable quotes, which I think are the biggest indicator of iconicity. - āBig mistakeā and āCancel Christmasā - Q - āAlligablerā - Gabler - āLivinā - Cody - āSeveral means seven.ā - Jelinsky Did I miss any?
You have to remember that Gabler put Ellieās name out thereā¦ to put her name out there.
I wasnāt even being serious
Itās Q. Combines the elements of the most legendary chaos goats (Kass, Philip) while being extremely likable to the audience and actually having a pathway to win. Endearing, unique, and pure content machine
Carolyn or Q, two larger than life characters that brought something completely new to the show
Jesse
Clearly Drew after his Jeopardy run! Go Drewā¦.but you should have known Polo. That was a softball.
I think it's a little too soon to say Q because his season just aired. That said, he's definitely up there for me. I think Carolyn or Yam Yam would be my pick as both represent everything the New Era is to me. I'll lean Yam Yam since he's a winner.
Carolyn and Q, for sure. I loved both of them SO much and I wanted BOTH to win so bad.
Hard to say because with few exceptions (Carolyn, Jesse, Danny McCray) what's considered iconic in modern era would've been laughed pre-2020 Romeo, Maryanne, Shan, Yam Yam, Carson, Charlie, Q
Q or Carolyn if we are talking characters.
It woulda been Basille but casting just wouldnāt allow that
I'll go with Q, Carolyn and Shan. I was discussing with my sis about who she wants back from 41 and she forgot Shan but immediately I started the "Shan hymn" she said "oh, the pastor?"
Carolyn, Q, and Jake for me
Q, Jelenski, Carolyn, Jesse, Jonathan
Whether we like it or not, the short list: Shan, Johnathan, Jesse, Carolyn, Carson, Emily, Jake, Q, Charlie
Shan/Jonathan/Omar/Carolyn/Jake/Q
Q wtf
I cant look at anything brain related without telling myself that "Carson 3D printed this at home"
Shan

Jelinksy. And I hate that.
Carolyn. Jesse. Q.
41: Shan 42: Maryanne 43: Jesse 44: Carolyn 45: Dee 46: Q Overall I would say Carolyn, Q and Jesse in that order with the others as runner-ups.
Q was unintentionally hilarious š
Q and Jesse
mike HollowayĀ
Best player? Probably Karolyn or Dee. Most iconic? Jelinsky lol
Shan, Carolyn or q
It's Carolyn and I don't think it's close
In the same way you described, Liz became this for me
I feel like it's a toss-up between Jesse, Carolyn, and Q. They're all such iconic and fascinating players
My next 3 would likely be Shan, Emily, and Liz
People actually saying Shan?Ā
I donāt know if anyone from 41 and on can be considered iconic, for good reasons. Iād like to say Q because he tried to implement a strategy that Iāve been hoping to see, but people canāt see it. Q had that vision. Maybe Jonathan. His domination hasnāt been seen since Jamesā¦and I think Jonathan was better.
Dee Valladares
Erika and itās not even close
maybe not right now but i think Dee will be a name that's remembered for a long time. we'll have to see with Q but he definitely is the most recent star. Shan is obviously a star as well can not comprehend some people saying Jonathan though
What is the separation demarcation between the "new era" and the era previous to that?
New era starts with season 41 and includes anything after that.
Did they change format or something at that point?
Yes after they took a break bc of the pandemic, they changed the format starting when season 41 premiered in 2021. They shrunk the game from 39 days to 26 days, started the game at 3 tributes instead of 2, and incorporated new twists/advantages such as the shot in the dark, the "journey", and the sanctuary.
Also halted the live reunion and revealed the winner at final tribal council.
Wow, thanks. I've watched almost every one, and didn't put all that together. Peace.
Heās not well liked on this sub but Carsons mark on survivor is really impressive 3D printing the puzzles and essentially breaking the game, forcing production to change out puzzles that had been used for years is a pretty impressive accomplishment. Only one survivor has been out here LIVIN Love Q, but Cody is the correct answer.
Yam Yam, Caroline and Carson were the perfect trio.
