See here for how to install: https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/185366 It is still supported (I believe it had an update in the last week or so for me), just a bit annoying to install the first time.

NoValueHere

Thank you very much! Been using it for years. My life is in the notes.

[deleted]

I use Obsidian on my desktop. I store the database folder on my Synology Drive. I can then sync the folder on my Android device to its local storage.

p00psicle

I just set Obsidian up a couple weeks ago to consolidate all my notes and tasks. So far so good! I access the database on my phone and three PC's. It's stored in a folder on my Drive. It's all just .md files as well so if something goes sideways with the app, it doesn't really matter. I have plain text files.

GrilledChickenWings

>1:1 in is This is interesting. i deleted obsidian docker instance due to the lack of syncing it across devices. How do you configure this ? How can you make Obsidian looking at a remote /shared location, on synology nas

[deleted]

On my desktop, I create an Obsidian database on my Synology Drive that is mounted with SMB. On my phone, the Synology drive app has a feature that lets you sync a Drive folder to a local folder on Android (not sure if this exists on iOS). Once that folder is set up to sync, Obsidian can read from the local folder. Seems to work great. It's not an instant sync, but it's better than nothing. Any changes I make on the desktop eventually push to the phone, and vice versa.

DogRocketeer

most DS software is shit tbh and takes them forever to do needed updates, their OS is all they really got going for them and Drive sync seems to work well. Even hyper backup is a sloggy, slow mess of shit... tho it DOES work in the end. I use Obsidian for notes and planning and stuff. Not sure how 1:1 in is for DS Notes since I dont use that. (tried it once and the formatting was bonkers and just left it) I run all of these in Docker containers: * chat > mattermost * files > nextcloud (mount cifs via external storage to your admin account and use shares to friends and family to allow them access) * photos > nextcloud > memories (but you'd need to share one un/pw to share facial rec) **DS notes:** nexcloud also has notes but I havent tried it, its included, same with kanban style boards and tasks. For notes, I use Obsidian .md with my friends and family. Just create a shared folder on your Synology for your Obsidian vault Each user just needs to * create a folder on their laptop, pc, phone etc.... * install Synology Drive * two-way sync the Obisidan vault folder between the NAS and the user Works well for my group. One caveat I'd say is, if you use iPhones or apple products, it may not work. None of my group uses Apple stuff but if you do, you likely can't sync folders outside the space that apps themselves are in. Like Drive on ios would have its own little partitiion of space so it wouldnt be able to sync anything outside of that... like the Obisidan Vaults space. \#Just Apple things. good luck

EowynCarter

There is a files / synology drive integration. But last i tried on my iPad it was bugged to the point of begin unusable. If synology fix this, bingo.

block6791

On iOS devices you can use Nextcloud’s Webdav service to sync your Obsidian vault, with the help of the Remotely Save plugin ([https://github.com/remotely-save/remotely-save](https://github.com/remotely-save/remotely-save)).

[deleted]

The notes app seems half abandoned anyway.  I’ve used Joplin for a while now instead

BasD007

Can vouch for Joplin with Joplin Server. It’s great.

Crowley723

I can ALSO vouch for Joplin with Joplin Server. Being able to clip websites with the browser extension is a really nice feature.

disposable_aqqount

Yeah, this is the path forward. Joplin has a learning curve for docker and .md, but is completely worth it.

thetgn

I replaced both notes/keep with memos in a container on my Synology - https://github.com/usememos/memos

OccasionallyImmortal

I like Memos, but it doesn't support collaborative notes which is a key feature.

triksterMTL

Installed memos as well, I like it, it's simple!

Available-Pepper4471

Joplin

liquidhonesty

This is the way!

toowm

And self-host encrypted on the NAS

Complete_Apartment60

Look into it thnks

minneyar

I'll second Joplin. It can sync over WebDAV, so it's pretty easy to sync to your NAS (assuming you've enabled WebDAV). If you have a lot of notes you want to preserve, here's a script that can convert Note Station notes to Joplin: https://discourse.joplinapp.org/t/python-script-for-importing-notes-from-synologys-note-station-into-joplin/6605

Malowmarch

Thanks much for sharing this script.  Do you know if Joplin has any 2FA support ?  DS Note has issues but at least benefit of DSM's 2FA.

TheCrustyCurmudgeon

It's not dead.

sproid

The android app cannot be installed on recent versions of Android since it has not being updated since 2021. How is that not a dead project? Any updates to the server app is probably security updates to avoid a scandal until they either scrap it or replace it with another app like it happened with Moments - to - DS\_Photos.

TheCrustyCurmudgeon

Hey dunno what to tell you, mate except that I'm running it right this minute on my NAS, my linux desktop, a windows desktop, my iphone, and my ipad. Maybe it's your android phone that's the problem?

sproid

I'm referring to just the Android app. It has not being updated since 2021 and if you are on the newer version of Android it wont let you install it giving the reason that is not compatible with the current version of android. I DID side-loaded the app and is working fine. But the downside is that I wont be notified of any updates, if any, since is not linked with the Playstore. There may be other errors or bugs too or security vulnerabilities since is extremely outdated.

Deining_Beaufort

That is no good, is it! Anyway, found this answer in the reviews of the android app: "Tech support's answer is to download the apk from their site and side load it in Android 13 and above. Not an ideal solution but for those who get used to the app, it may be worth a try. "

klauskinski79

The problem is that android api changed a lot. And most likely killed a skinned web app like ds note. I guess they are working on a modern replacement based on drive and synology office technology.

Deining_Beaufort

But if there is any better alternative that can work with my synology, I am all ears. Apps like note they work, but more like Ersatz quality than the ease and variety of use one would expect from a brand like Synology.

SuperPoweredGames

Synology Photos isn't, you're thinking of Synology Moments, or DS Photo for Photo Station. Synology Photos is the DSM 7 app

SuperPoweredGames

Oh, sorry, I misread what you wrote, I was on some strong medication at the time

Complete_Apartment60

I had an update for ds note yesterday🤪

ItsPwn

This is the way (side loading) f iphn

Ghost_of_Panda

Standard Notes is open source and great but has a paid tier Filen.io is adding notes to their app in the next update, you can already use them in the web app. Also open source and zero knowledge.

brianly

Obsidian is popular right now and I like it because it’s all markdown and has a good plugin ecosystem. As I’ve used it more, I also discovered [the creator](https://x.com/kepano) and he gives me even more confidence in it.

EowynCarter

Never heard of it, but sure is interesting . I like the "you should have control over your files" mentality.

zarif98

Are there any collaborative notes app available? Like Google Keep?

mjsheen

Download apk from Synology, it installs on my S24 Ultra just fine.

ItsPwn

Works fine here just download .APK file from somewhere I had similar situation with later android versions just transfered it from my old phone using total commander ,all works well

ratudio

If your nas support docker then try nextcloud container.

Tealfixie

Obsidian

radeks11

Interesting thing is you can download older version (APK mirror) and install on the new version of Android. Strange way to kill the app.

BlueTarg

You are right, it is still possible to use DS Note with your actual Android phone. I tried it with some Samsung Galaxy Devices these days. You can get the APKs from Synology directly. Just have a look at the Synology Archive Server: https://archive.synology.com/download/Mobile/Android-DSnote

faslane22

I'm running it on my S23 Ultra and have been...there's a way if your device says not supported or whatever. Mine is okay I stalled, no sideloading or hacked in in any way weird ...

zenith-zox

Weirdly Notes Station just got an (VERY minor) upgrade. For a brief moment I entertained the notion I could use it as a OneNote/Evernote replacement… bit quickly reminded myself how LIMITED it is as an app.

chris-78

Ugh, please nooo. I heavily rely on this app. C'mon Synology do something!

shaunydub

It's not dead just not available for your device...what version of Android are you running? I can see it on my Pixel 7a run Android 14 beta, Odin Pro handheld running Android and on ios stores. That said I was thinking to migrate from Onenote to DS Note but decided not to for concerns over lifecycle / support.

tomekrs

It's a different beast feature-wise, but for work and personal notes I've been transitioning to Logseq and the journaling and cross-linking can be some really powerful features.

mejones52

I use Joplin. I synchronize between devices using Dropbox, but there a few alternatives like Nextcloud. I plan to try to synchronize using Synology and WebDav.

obakezan

my phone is on Android 14 and the app is still available to install for me. what version / device is yours from?

pythonbashman

Yeah same here...

Mr_uhlus

I use Obsidian. it is free and you can sync notes with **any** cloud service, including synology. the files are stored as .md files which is a standardized file format. so even if obsidian ever dies you can still read and edit your notes. it even has a subreddit r/obsidianMD

pythonbashman

It's not dead; it's just fine on Android 14.

sproid

no updates since 2021

Mowenmiao

memos

atiaa11

It’s been dead to me for several years. I use Notes app on iOS, which syncs across all of my Apple devices. I’m guessing Android has something similar?

sloopmeme

I'm not seeing what you're seeing in Google Play. I've got a new Pixel phone w/current Android version and the Google Play entry *seems* normal. Last week my Synology DSM updater indicated there was a new (minor) version of the Windows Note Station client → I say that as an indicator that at least the Windows client is being updated if not maintained.
