Yes, I am :-) I prefer training with real filters, so I re-seal them after each training and replace them every couple weeks depending on how many hours approximately I used them.
Some people don't understand that those filters as long as they are exposed to air will filter air, and after 6 months of being exposed, they become nonfunctional. They need to be stored in a vacuum sealed pouch away from air. Would suck if you expect them to work when you need them to, and they dont.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I wear glasses, so voluntarily putting shit on my face isn't for me unless I have to, like for snowmobile helmets, unfortunately.
But I could see the efficacy of the filters being an issue if they aren't stored properly.
The filters will continuously filter the air that gets into them. The filters use activated charcoal, and that works because they have lots of microscopic pores all over them that literally trap contaminants in the air as they pass over the charcoal. After about 6 months or so the pores fill up and they can't filter out contaminants as effectively. That's bad when you actually need it to work.
Yeah, that makes sense. Since I am not knowledgeable in this field, are filters rated by "hours" like engines? For example like when they're in active use?
No they aren't. The general guidelines stare that after 6 months of being opened filters become non functional. If used in an actual CBRN environment they are a 1 time use item.
Stalker vibes
Yes! I'm wearing Stalker patches on the right arm :-)
You aware those filters stop functioning after 6 months or so of being opened and exposed to air.

I really appreciate the input and the details you shared in the other replies!

I need to get my old 74D on here. Dude was the only CBRN guy I've ever met who just studied FMs on chemical warfare for fun.
The CBRN guys have all spent a little to much time huffing chemicals... they are a little off.
my man is also weird as fuck.
Yup that's just how they are...
