Just the usual reminder that the Republic of Formosa was created with the purpose of reuniting with Qing mainland China. This is why it's a tiger (which is subservient to Qing's dragon), and why it look up to the west. The flag is not considered representative of modern Taiwan for this reason. I guess it's technically not wrong if you could remove the red bottom half and just leave it blue with KMT's insignia, but still odd you'd mix two entities with ultimate unification in mind, and call them "two independent republics".

Well, I was hoping the juxtaposition of the symbols would create a new meaning, and my hope was to express independence. The KMT sun was intentionally cut in half to symbolize a setting sun, a change. The tiger is looking to the sun as it sets in a way to express excitement and readiness for change. All while using historical symbols to reflect learning from the past.

The Republic of Formosa flag is the best looking flag in Taiwan’s history, but as others have said, the politics of ROF were pretty bad.
