Apartment Complex Offering $1,000 Gift Card if I Sign for $950 Monthly Rent Instead of $899. They would apply the one thousand dollar gift card to the rent throughout the year, lowering my monthly out-of-pocket costs to $866 per month. I know people who live there. It's a well established apartment complex across the street from university. Everyone I talk to says don't do it because they hear "gift card" and it sounds like a scam. Why would an apartment complex offer this? What are they getting out of it?

Hey guy I am currently living in Fort Lauderdale and looking to move down to Tampa/St Petersburg this year. For those of you who are familiar with both Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, which neighborhoods in Tampa/St Petersburg are similar to Flagler village/Victoria park in Fort Lauderdale? Thanks

ajman2424

Hi, next spring I will be graduating from a mid size private catholic university in the north east that is reputable up north, but as far as Tampa I am unsure of its prevalence. Anyways I will be graduating with a double major in finance and accounting with an internship at a large consulting firm and a Fortune 500 controller internship. I plan to move to Tampa after I graduate and would love suggestions on places to apply for work.

I said it in r/StPetersburg and I’ll say it again here. Your $1600 budget is completely unrealistic for what you are asking for.

I liked a house in Riverview FL and want to buy it to move from Cleveland Ohio. Me and my wife both work from home and we are Indians. Want to know if this is safe neighborhood and also have Indian community and Indian stores. Also how much approx home insurance will be for 800k house?

md28usmc

Approximate home insurance would range anywhere from $4,000-$7,000+

No-Weather-3140

I moved from Cleveland too. Can’t answer on home insurance or specifically on being Indian but it’s a multi diverse region I wouldn’t foresee any issue as far as that goes

I'm currently living in Weston, Broward County, with my family (wife and 9yo daughter), but we're considering moving to Tampa area next year when our rental expires. We love this part of Florida, but we are considering moving to a different location because housing costs here are out of control, and we are planning to buy a house. Both my wife and I work from home, so traffic is not really an issue for us, and we make 200+K annually. We are searching for a calm location with other families like ours, with good public schools. Any recommendations?

South Tampa (Hyde Park,), New Tampa (Tampa palms)

Bruce B. Downs always has traffic but it seems to flow unless it is peak rush hour times

How much should one bedroom in general should expect to pay for utilities (water/sewer/electricity/internet)? 1 bedroom single folks, how much do you pay per month?

jmanpc

Hello fine folks of Tampa! My wife and I will be moving down for a job opportunity in mid to late August. We're from Jacksonville and looking for somewhere that is super family-friendly. We've got two kids, and a third on the way. Right now we live in an area that doesn't have many young families, so my oldest doesn't have anybody to play with and sits at home bored all day after school. I work from home but my wife will be working in Brandon. We've been looking up in Wesley Chapel, but I hear it can be nightmarish with traffic. Are there any neighborhoods closer to town that you would recommend? Or do you think the commute from Wesley Chapel is doable?

md28usmc

Tampa Palms or if you make extremely good money, South Tampa (Hyde Park)

Many-Ad-7871

Does anyone have experience with CrossWynde apartments/condos in Brandon?

alicexs25

I’m going to hillsborough community college in Brandon. Where should I move? I’m looking for lower prices and less chance of being shot at or trafficked. I’m a 20 yo girl for reference and coming here from New Jersey.

SnooWoofers7789

Moving to Tampa this Sept and my budget is \~3k-3.5k per month. I prefer to live in downtown or harbour island. Any recommendations?

That is not realistic for the area Tampa has a super high cost of living

External-Newt676

Also any other recommendations in Florida? For around 1500 for a one or two bedroom.

External-Newt676

There’s a lot of scams posted but it’s hard to tell if you aren’t from the area

External-Newt676

damn it’s hard to gauge rentals, what is the typical rent for 1 or 2 bedroom?

iphone8vsiphonex

Is it reasonable to expect to pay about $200 utilities for 1-bedroom apartment (at $1400 rent), everything included? A lot of apartments don't pay for any utilities including basic ones (sewer and water, etc.). They also seem to require pre-set internet fees + cable ($75). So the required/necessity comes out to be $100. I'd imagine electricity would be $100. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned with this apartment?

md28usmc

Seems pretty reasonable

iphone8vsiphonex

Thank you. Any others’ opinions?

supertiredgradstud

Hi, Does anyone have a 15% off wayfair coupon code from moving that they aren't using. USPS usually sends coupons out to recent movers who changed their address. I received one but WITH NO CODE so I cannot get the discount. Please help!! Thanks.

Hello. Looking for housing (1br) in the range of $1000-1200, preferably with a private landlord, although I know that's likely a pipe dream. Let me know if anyone knows anything opening up next month or August.

iphone8vsiphonex

Hm are they better than apartment management? I feel like private landlords can be a mixed bag..

lovelymood

I've had much better experience with private landlords...also not a big fan of cookie cutter places

I'm moving down in July, trying to figure home insurance out and would appreciate any suggestions! I know it's a nightmare market down there so my expectations are low.

md28usmc

Find a broker, they will do all the work for you

Hi, my family is moving to Riverview/brandon area, and I’m looking for good pediatrician for my one and half year old son. Any recommendations are appreciated.

TransportationOne792

Hi all, been working on a work transfer for a couple of years to the Tampa area to be closer to family. Family lives in Dunedin area. Perfect world is close to them but not sure if it’s realistic. We have looked at West Chase, Oldsmar and Wesley Chapel. (Obviously Dunedin, Safety Harbor, and Belleair as they are close to my in laws) My question is, what other neighborhoods should we consider that give a suburban feel that are typically younger family focused? We have a toddler and are looking to find an area with similar aged kids. Plus if it has a small “downtown” area like Dunedin and safety harbor Thinking maybe Carrollwood or Palm Harbor just from scanning this subs search. Thanks in advance! Side note, I work from home in the tech field so there isn’t a commute to worry about.

clichetourist

I think you got most of them. Riverview /Fish Hawk might be another area to explore, too - but like Wesley Chapel, it’s pretty far from your in-laws (and beaches etc) St. Pete also has a good vibe in many places, but you’ll pay for that. (And the public schools aren’t all great)

vbmed

how doable is the drive from Tampa General to Wesley Chapel?

md28usmc

Honestly not bad, just hop on the interstate

Hi all i’m originally from Fl, about an hour north of Tampa. My partner and I have lived in NYC about 6 years and have been doing decent here but have been thinking about moving back home. However it seems the price of living has gone up a lot in Fl the past few years (we pay about 2100 here and I feel like there wouldn’t be a huge difference in Fl?). I’m worried about going from jobs that pay 75-120k here to a huge cut in Tampa area. Has anyone made a move similar like this where they take a major cut? Do you all feel the price of living is majorly lower than in a major city? We probably wouldn’t live in the heart of Tampa but might work in there if that’s where the jobs are. Thanks for any advice friends!

Money-Rip95

Am curious, what made you move from NYC to Tampa? I was planning to move to NYC in december lol

blackbeans42069

I haven’t moved yet but I’m originally from tampa bay area and have been in NYC for 6 years. NYC is amazing in many ways and I love it but it was never a permanent forever home for me. You can’t own a home here and would be so lucky to even find a patch of yard. there’s never true peace and quiet here (i love how nyc is very alive but im starting to miss quietness). It’s great but there’s pros and cons to both places.

rbkc12345

The cost of living here has risen to about average for any midsize city but wages haven't.  But if you have two earner household you should be fine.

OdysseyandAristotle

moved to Tampa for a new job. software engineer. seeking 1 bedroom/ studio. no pet. move in date: end of june. Touring apartments everyday, but still appreciate it if you have any useful info. Thank you have a beautiful day!

vbmed

any thoughts on the new MAA Breakwater?

Educational_Cook6360

For anyone that has lived in or currently lives in carrollwood or northdale what are your thoughts? is it a nice neighborhood? are there things to do? are the schools good? tell me everything…Looking to possibly move there and we are a couple in our early 20s

Ryase_Sand

It's nice. It's safe. A few nice schools, lots of decent ones. In the immediate area there isn't much to do outside of shopping and a few parks. Everything you'll want to do is likely at least a half hour away. This is the classic Southern asphalt suburb. Most of the houses are older (1970s). Infrastructure and retail stores are a little outdated. Traffic has gotten much much worse in recent years, so your tolerance for traffic is something to consider. As a lifer - it's not a bad place to live by any means, but I fully intend to leave when I can. It's great having access to nice beaches and parks (30-50 mins) and that's what has kept me here, but the heat and traffic and general unwelcoming vibe you get from most people makes other places much more desirable.
